I did the opposite conversion. I bought a Hoss and upgraded to steel drive shafts, GTR Shocks, VG Racing variable springs, Proline Racing aluminum hub inserts, Proline Trenchers, and traded the stock body for a Rustler 4x4 VXL body. Some trimming modifications were needed to accommodate the large tires and to fit the Hoss pan. The shorter springs make the stance about a half inch lower, which in my opinion is perfect for the added torque of the Hoss motor. It’s a bad ass conversion that handles well in all terrains.
I got the sledgehammer tires and the hoss center diff for my rustler. Thinking of buying this motor but my esc is behaving funky so i think im better off getting a mamba x and a larger castle 2400kv motor to get similar performance.
Not sure why you would want to do this but pretty cool. I installed rustler 4x4 shock towers and Maxx F/R bumpers along with the max body and wheels on my Slash 4x4, Maxx Slash :)
That sounds awesome. This was more for people who upgraded their rustler then the Hoss came out and it would be cheaper to buy some parts then to sell the rustler at a loss and buy the hoss then you can keep your upgrades.
@@brendandawson27 I had to gear down a few teeth on the pinion, I wouldn't run the stock gearing you'll burn out your electronics. No overheating once the pinion was dropped, if I recall it was down 4 teeth.

So could I just buy the front and rear pieces and attach to my stock rustler 4x4 chassis? Just looking for ground clearance without buying a new chassis
bro your channel is amazing you could start with a bandit and end up with a xmaxx its like tier progression that was a joke btw but i assumed you got that but seriously good work man
The velineon ESC on my rustler 4x4 vxl has the smaller connectors. The 540XL motor comes preinstalled with the 6.5mm connectors. How did you approach this?
I just used the Esc from the Hoss. you could cut off the connectors on the esc and install 6.5mm connectors. or they sell adapters which I have used in other builds with no issues.
Yes it would the only thing im not sure about is if you would have to move the Esc. It looks like enough room. And you would have to either make adapters or change the connectors on the motor or Esc.
ive done this conversion and im using the rustler body although the front end just below the front grill stick was snapped off and im using the rustle front bumper that may be why it fits and i had to trim the side panels to inside the side skirt nerf bars
With parts and the sweat equity I’d just by a Hoss. It’s only what $70 more & not have to buy the parts and then install them.... Yeah I would just buy it
Ya it makes more sense to buy the hoss if you don't have the rustler. This is for people who have the rustler and want to convert it instead of selling it to buy the hoss. Especially if they already upgraded their rustler.
Yes you can convert a slash 4x4 into a hoss It would be similar to this conversion but you might have to change out a few more parts I know the shock towers are different you would have to change those too.
Well honestly I hate the look of the twig truck lol it needs to be wider do you have a maxx? Does that body fit? I mean i already have it scrapping on the body sometimes but is ugly does it just look like a wingless rustler?
Yes that's the point I started with a rustler and ended with a hoss. So i converted a rustler into a hoss. How does that not make sense. So if you bought a rustler before the hoss came out and you maybe upgraded it and want to keep those upgrades, and now you want a hoss instead of selling the rustler you can convert it. What were you suggesting? Putting a hoss body on a rustler chassis the body would be way higher. There would be a gap between the chassis and the body it wouldn't look right. And it wouldn't be converted into a hoss if it still had the rustler chassis.
@@OverBudgetRC because that clearly that chassis you put those parts you swapped over onto the hoss chassis. @@mellomisfit I literally explained all the differences of the 2 chassis in the video lol. And if i used the rustler esc and motor it wouldn't be a hoss now would it. I even said im not going to go over how to switch over the motor. Because anyone that's going to tear down their rc this much would know how to do something that easy.

Great video, thanks. Will a Hoss body fit on a Rustler without all those changes?
Thank you yes it does but there is a gap between the chassis and body though I just posted a picture on my community tab.
Great video! Although the rustler is superior to the hoss IMHO.
Thank you
I like them both i have both and don't think i could give up either one lol

Yeah absolutely
Not to poo poo on your vid because it was great. You could tell you put a lot of thought and care into

Question....is the steering link and servo horn needed bc tires are gonna be bigger to throw it off? Ordered what i needed , just curious
Its because the servo mounts a different way and its a different length

Just wondering if I could do the samething to my slash 4x4 make it into a hoss? Because its actually the same parts as well as the hoss. Thanks

Yes they are all in the description
Nice one cheaper than bu one how much you get the hoss body for??
Thanks
Ive seen the hoss bodies on ebay for about 60 with cage and mounts
Does the hoss motor fit into the rustler?
Yes it would the only thing im not sure about is if you would have to move the Esc. It looks like enough room. And you would have to either make adapters or change the connectors on the motor or Esc.
So does that mean using hoss springs would give a rustler more suspension travel? 🤔
No they are just stiffer the amount of travel would be the same
