I'm also a believer in being a minimalist when it comes to housework! 😊We are a retired couple, just two people living in a condo. While I have decluttered to the point of achieving the "maintenance" level and we live a minimalist lifestyle, we have a set of Corian dishes with service for 12. That's 12 dinner plates, 12 salad plates, 12 bowls, 12 appetizer plates. Sounds like a lot but that allows me the luxury of running the dishwasher every four days with a full load, eliminating the need to ever hand wash anything.
Thank you, this is such a helpful video!☺️💖👍👍 A few yrs bk i was watching a ton of minimalist videos bcs my stuff was so overwhelming. So I got rid of a ton, and while it felt good at the time, not too long after I really, really regretted giving away things I couldn't replace, or that were useful things I thought I didn't need. That was a tough lesson. So I love what you're saying that everyone has a different threshold for decluttering. I haven't heard that before and I think there's so much truth to that!😊 Thx for the tips to try paring down yet keep some things in a holding place for a time. God bless!😄
I feel that regret! I’ve been working from home since Covid. And they told us pretty quickly it was a permanent change (saving $ on rent!). But it took until August of this year to have the energy to go through my office appropriate clothing. At least half my closet. It was honestly kind of a boring job, so a lot of us work things in casual Fridays that were just silly or ridiculous. A few people came in on short stilts to wear all day! So I had a mini wardrobe of Friday Fun things - false teeth; shirts that looked like I had a kitten in my pocket; fake rubber noses and ‘hypnotic spectacles’, and huge false mustaches (odd on a female). And then the normal lower management corporate stuff. Skirts, and pants, and dresses and blouses, and six boring pairs of shoes that I only wore at the office. I even got rid of some new clothes that still had tags attached - post Xmas sales the year before Covid. I’m talking pantyhose still in packages; underwire bras that were only required under a specific type of power outfit; packages of nice trouser socks with subtle patterns. I think I kept 3 full outfits - one for weddings & happy events; one for funerals and somber events; and one that just made me look fantastic! And then I went through all my jewelry. And a lot of it was good condition, but I’d only bought to wear at work Monday - Thursday. Maybe not quite my style, but for in with certain departments ‘branding’ of themselves. And a lot that wouldn’t be fashionable again, or that don’t match my new, very casual lifestyle. So I pulled at least 3 pounds of jewelry - every set got its own little bag so they wouldn’t tangle. I felt so proud and light and free! My closet was so roomy. Clear space on the floor for things! Multiple shelves and drawers - completely empty. I ended up with 6 HUGE plastic bins, and some small, heavy bins. I filled up my car so much I couldn’t fit a person in. And as all that stuff came out of the car, into the back of the thrift shops, and were returned empty - I felt joyful. Like I’d really made some progress. And I had! And I also felt good because the charity sold it to maintain a halfway house for people trying to get their lives together. Then I spent some money (not crazy a lot, but I did enjoy some freedom of choice) to replace the 10-12 bedraggled outfits I had worn for years. (I didn’t donate, I cut them up for rags). Sweats & leggings -practically invisible where my thighs met & with frayed hems. Old t-shirts that were so stained they looked like modern art. Or Rorsach tests. Tired bras for ones with fresh elastic, etc. Still had a roomy closet. I happily cut off all the tags and tried things out and sent pics to my friends. And then, two weeks ago, the day after Thanksgiving, I was laid off. Since early November, there had been rumors & speculation. BUT I had been working there for more than 5 years! And was one of the upper third of performers the whole time! No idea when or what or what kind of job I will be able to get. I’m disabled and can’t work on my feet. A lot of places with remote jobs just don’t need people right now. And now I’m crushed. I can’t return any of the new clothes - a lot of them were final clearance anyway. Very, very few can be dressed up enough to be office attire. I basically gave away so much it would cost $6k to buy all of it back (new). And now I’m unemployed. All benefits cut off. In an expensive city. REALLY regretting finally taking the step to gut my wardrobe. For the rest of my life, this will hold me back from releasing stuff.
I have 2 winter coats one is 'driving ' length and the other is shorter. When I jog the shorter one doesnt restrict my stride and for regular commuting the longer one keeps me a bit warmer. I had more back ups but donated them!
That style and color shirt looks great on you! Also, had to rewind and see where you put the binder clips. 😂 definitely agree they go with paper clips.
I love your videos! They are very helpful and I love your outlook on things! In case you want some feedback the last couple of videos I have watched lately have been difficult for me to watch because you have been doing a project during the video that has nothing to do with what you are talking about. I find it very distracting and not relevant to the topic you are talking about. Just curious as to what the reason(s) are for this? I thought maybe you were trying to multi-task in order to get more done in your day?? Not sure, but it does distract from what you are saying. Please don't let my words discourage you! I really do value your content!❤
I only have one swimsuit - I was actually surprised to find out that some people - in fact lots of people - have more 🙂 But usually I like multiples of things - I am autistic and like lots of my things in threes
I don't own a bathing suit. Donated the last one I had, practically brand new, because I realized that I neither like swimming nor ever swim, even when I go on vacation! 😆

I agree that I need to choose the amount of items that work for my own family. There is no magic formula that fits everyone.

I have a lot of similar items as you, Laura!
I did this recently with hair style stuff. I got rid of extra hair dryers, curling irons, straighteners, etc. gained space in my cabinet!
I only have one swimsuit - I was actually surprised to find out that some people - in fact lots of people - have more 🙂

❤❤❤ three!
I run my dishwasher 2-3 times per day 😆 I run it on the quick 1 hour wash
