Bass Matrix is a book about groove and basslines suitable for beginners, intermediates, or professionals - even without sight reading skills. It provides exciting bass tools for groove design, drumbeat interaction, fingerings, and fill-ins. With this, you'll learn to build a bass repertoire ready for any groove situation, whether in straight or odd meters.
The foundation lies in the language of subdivisions: Every rhythm is divided into groups. And depending on the bass style, such a 'grouping' is then filled with different tonal material. This approach solidifies your sense of rhythm, allowing you to skillfully and flexibly develop your own bass parts, tailored to the needs of the song or track. It's a creativity boost that revs up your bass engine.
The entire journey is accompanied by hundreds of song examples inspired by well-known songs, bands, and bassists. The book spans 296 pages, includes over 400 MP3s, and features drum accompaniment by Ralf Gustke. It contains an extensive Bass-Drum Groove Atlas and a Fill-In Library. Let it groove boldly, nice and easy, in every groove situation and time signature, from 4/4 to odd meters. Navigate effortlessly through various genres: rock, funk, hip-hop, metal, RnB, soul, jazz, Afrobeat, Latin, and more.

Yes, absolutely. It's always fantastic and mind-blowing to play Bach on bass, and what he composed 100s of years ago.... I did an organ piece as well: ruclips.net/video/i54kuLw_CC8/видео.html

Beautiful basses, great playing! The 500/1 looks just perfect- i don’t think I’ve seen one with that knob configuration before, is it custom?

Looks much better than the stock knob configuration, that's for sure.

How do you stop the neck dive on those basses? It’s obviously not an issue for you somehow.

@thebassmatrix I've never seen a 500/1 look like yours. I have a 1984. What year is yours? Was it a special model, or did you customize it? Great playing. Loved watching you play!

Do I need a Hofner to get a very clean and pure sound just like this?
I really like the clean and pure tone you have in this recording. I imagine a lot of it is your solid technique, but is the Hofner a big part of what I'm hearing? I am a longtime musician that is just getting into playing bass, and I'm starting to try and figure out what kind of instrument to invest in. Personally, I favor a much more melodic approach like McCartney and I very much like classical music (I come from that background with piano) and would hope to enjoy the bass as such. This recording ticks every box in my very young bass mind. There's no great amount of fret or string noises, a clean pure sound without so much growl and bright sounding aggressiveness like I hear in Dingwall demos (just an example).

That clean and pure sound comes mostly from using flatwound strings as opposed to the more common roundwound strings, as the former have much less high end.

If anything the hofner kinda works against that clarity. It’s a great sounding bass but can be pretty farty and flubby depending on the exact bass. They all sound pretty different so it can be frustrating finding the right one. Some are great like this one and maccas but I’ve had and played ones that weren’t as great. Flats and a p/j bass would get you this sound with minimal effort as well as a million other sounds!

Thank for thr replies. I like a clean seperation of all the notes but dislike string sounds and the higher side of EQ in general. Seems like roundwounds would be great for that
