How to make a DIY Gaming Wheel for any Console Tutorial

- In this video, I will show you how to make a DIY racing wheel and pedals for any console. The only things you will need are wooden dowels, Foamboard or Cardboard, (optional) and a glue gun. Did I forget to mention that you will need a console :)

For everyone wondering how to connect the strings from the foot pedals to the popsicle sticks on the controller holder. Tie the strings to the 2 popsicle sticks, then route both strings through the small piece you added to the back of the foamboard with the 2 holes in it. Then when both strings are going through both of those holes, pull them down and connect them to your foot pedals making sure there is very little or no slack in the strings that way when you press on the pedals, it pulls the string down which pulls the popsicle sticks which squeezes the left and right controller buttons which finally either accelerates or applies the brakes to the vehicle your driving. I hope that helped anyone who was wondering and sorry for the confusing end!

Smart, but not actually TOO smart, the steering angle only allows you to turn a very minute amount.. there is a string method that allows the wheels of the car to turn almost precisely with the homemade steering wheel. The string has to be looped around the steering column and around both sides of the controller steering stick. The string method allows way more maneuverability.

I dont have springs, i only have one. Can I substitute it with anything?
A few questions:
Instead of using a lot of layers could you just use one chunky piece of ply ?
What are the dimensions of the circles ?
Any suggestions on how to make it more like a f1 scenario ?
Alright the answer to the first question is yes probably
2nd I used a regular size plate to measure them
3rd You could look up a picture of one and add your own little touches

The main thing you need is foam board which is what I used but you can also use card board. I used wooden dowels and popsicle sticks.

At 3:17 can you use the wooden sticks instead of popsicle sticks
Do you mean use the wooden sticks for the steering wheel rod.

I have 3 questions. 1. If I put the cardboard that the steering wheel is attached to on the table, will there be any problems? My second question is if I make the steering wheel in a circle, will it be a problem? My third question is, will there be any problems if I use glue instead of a silicone gun? And how you connected brake and gas pedal with controller?
The answer to all of your questions is no and I connected them with a string

Just built the entire controller support but just to turn it side ways because I didn’t plan that far ahead that sucks for me
I would recommend adding some gears so you can turn the wheel more before coming to the full side end of the joystick. Other than that, amazing!

HI BRO I MDE IT AND IT'S VERY GOOD BUT IDK HOW I HAVE TO ATTACHE STRING WITH CONTROL TO RACE AND BRAK OLZ TELL ME😢😢
All you have to do is wrap the string around the popsicle sticks on the controller mount then glue it so it doesn't come off. Then position the gaming wheel you built somewhere then put the brake pedals on the ground and attach the strings from the controller mount that you glued to the brake pedals and glue them. Now make sure there is tension in between the gaming wheel and the brake pedals so that when you press the brake pedals it pulls the string hooked up to the brake pedals which makes the car brake. Hope that helps
Can I use cardboard for this project?, and for a substitute for the drill, what can I use? I don’t have a drill..
@@BL3CKED0UT Yeah you could definitely use cardboard, and if you don't have a drill you can use something sharp like a dowel or even a stick or literally anything. I just used a drill because it was easier but if you're just going to do it through cardboard almost anything can poke through that.

It depends on where the buttons to shift on the controller are.

Depending on how light weight your pedals are, the springs in the triggers could be strong enough to act as a spring.

I don't unfortunately but the only dimensions you really need are the dimensions for your controller.

Well that depends on if the controller and the pedals can both be connected at the same time.

How does the break and Accel work?
Well if you look at the brake pedal and acceleration pedal, they both have a string that is attached to them. That string goes all the way up to the controller which is inside that box I built in the video. That box has two popsicle sticks that that push down on the R2 and L2 buttons on the controller whenever they are pulled. What I did was attach the strings to both of those and then whenever I push down on the pedals, it pulls on the popsicle sticks making it brake or accelerate.
What kind of material did you use?
Foam board, you can buy a big sheet of it at Walmart for like 2 bucks

The only way that I would think would work is to use gears, but most likely no one would want or could do that.
I'm trying it with gears but it's a lot of work I had some lying around from an old sewing machine and it is perfect but I'm having trouble fitting it

You might not need any springs at all because the springs inside of the triggers on the controller would probably be strong enough to pull the pedals up themselves.
bit confused about what you did with the stings.....plz someone help me out.....
Alright so pretty much they connect to those little things that are on the box that I made for the controller, then they go all the way to the petals, so when you push down the petal it pulls on the string which pulls on the little things connected to the triggers on the controller

You don't really need them to do that. You could use something else that you might have laying around. I only used it because it was easiest for me.

Yeah you could but whenever you get out of your car, you would have to take the controller out.
