- Jackson goes over how to tune a Sram derailleur as well as replace the cable on a Sram derailleur. Both these tasks are fairly simple and will help your bike to run smoother and make it more enjoyable. The derailleur in this video is a Sram gx DH, but all one-by Sram derailleurs works the same. We hope this video helps you get your gears running smooth and thanks for watching.

Better description than the “official” channels. Good job!
I've been struggling with getting my gearing set up properly for two weeks. This was the first set of instructions I've found (after at least 6 others) that showed how to route the cable at the derailleur properly. Thank you so much!
Sweet. Very helpful - especially showing how the inner cable loops around the clamp bolt. Best done with good lighting. Thanks!
Glad you found it helpful!
Thanks bud! It saved me some money by taking it to the shop!!! 👍🏽 👍🏽 🙏
Best video on SRAM gear shifter seen, by a long shot!
Great video. To the point and hitting on all the key points. Nice camera work too. I like the way you were demonstrating the actual concepts you were talking about. Nicely done. Thank you.
stoked you enjoyed it!
Numerous videos I've been watching to find a decent way to set it up, didn't have success with any, not till this video. Massive thanks, I can get back on the trail now.
Stoked to help out🤙
Good angles, good audio, good video. Just what I needed in the garage today! Awesome job dude.
Thanks!
Nice simplified video. Been doing this a while but I always make it more difficult than it is.
Awesome! Installing Sram force 1 derailleur and didn't know the proper path (this little hole thingy) for the cable. Don't know why manufacturers make it so hard to find those information nowadays. You saved my day, thanks!
Thanks for posting. Good angles and detailed views.
I like the sound of your hub!
Fantastic tutorial. The oil trick helped a lot. Thanks!
Thanks for this.Really helpful and well explained....and the close-up angles very well done too.
now that's a tiny cassette!
It’s for downhill all hard gears
Takes one to know one ;]
Great vid, I've watched a lot, this one is clear and complete. 👍🏼
thanks for the video, im going to 'go ahead' and try this
Thank you!!!! 3 cables in the bin tonight before I found this ....had not seen the small cam mechanism area I had to thread it through pre clamping. If you clamp straight to the nut without doing that you spend hours trying work out crazy shifting ...and swearing. What a releif when I found this !!!!!! :) also was tightening the clamp and snapping my cables. Star
Glad the video helped out, nothing more annoying than mystery shifting.
Thank you for sharing information. I'll try to replace the cable on a Sram derailleur ^^
Thanks for the video. Super helpful!
Great explanation, well done.
“Alright guys”, “it’s a feel thing”, “sorry for the loud hub”
Good video which confirms why my shifting was bad because the idiot that set up my new bike didn't push the cable through the hole in the second guide cam and also didn't set the high and low limit screws.
Thanks for your video👍🏻
This helped me, thanks!
Thanks you. Fantastic video
Best video ive found yet
awesome video !! thank you so much
Nice hub sound.
Great Video tanks alot :)
Glad you liked it!
Thanks for “straight to the point “ vid, one question though, the gears shift very smoothly on the bike stand but as soon as I start riding it, it starts to play up. Mine is the old sram x9 model. And the issue is most pronounced between 3rd and 4th gear.
Your derailleur or hanger is most likely loose or bent, id check on that.
The cable will stretch soon after putting on, so you have to set it up again after short time
Best one ☝️
Thanks a ton. Same general stuff for the 1x12 Eagle NX?
Pretty much and you're welcome.
Question. On the GX how does one remove / replace the cable pulley? On the other models, its a pair of 3mm hex, but I can't find any info on the GX. Any help appreciated.
It should not need replacing unless something has happened to it. If it is broken I would say you may need to contact your local shop and see if they can sort it out under warranty.
would you recommend changing the hanger as well if it has been straighten too much in the past?
I personally run them until they break but that would be a smart move as preventative maintenance.
I met you at suiside six a couple weeks ago
nice hearing from you! We are dropping the vid from that day son.
I need to replace on a mountain bike. What size cable do I need and are they generic or do I need a special size?
All shift cables are pretty well standardized.
@@ChildrenOfTheLoam Thank you!
what if the frame has barrel adjusters?
They function the same as the one on the shifter
How do I add more tension to the cable if the barrel adjustment isn't enough
Pull a little harder on the cable before you clamp it.
@@ChildrenOfTheLoam pulled with all my might with a needle nose pliers
@@chrisschuele4743 something else is wrong then, check limits and hanger
Whoop!!
Cool shot! Which camera did you shoot?
I actually used my samsung galaxy for this one
@@ChildrenOfTheLoam Cool!
@@ChildrenOfTheLoam What model?

It went together easily in less than an hour. ruclips.net/user/postUgkxHL1v1R3NE5x4KiYfyt8dnQmyNYz7qi5L Make sure the front fork is forward or the pedals will hit the front tire. Tires are both a little soft so it needs air before I ride it. The rear wheel didn't come with a clamp regular bolts hold it on. The front had the clamp. No scratches out of box. Rims are a little off with a slight wobble. They could have spent more time with the spoke tool fixing the run out. So far out of the box I'm happy with it. I did replace the pedals with a nice aftermarket set. After riding it a bit my A$$ is a bit sore so I ordered another seat. Overall I'm nearly 60 and didn't ride a bike in 30 years. I like my new 29" Schwinn. It will be used for casual rides with my friend.
Large all day
Deraileeeer???

Great video with excellent instruction! Very helpful thank you
