    I never thought to pre-index the rear derailleur before fitting the chain but it worked like a dream without any barrel adjuster adjustment afterwards. Crisp changes and no rattles whatsoever. And this is a 20+ year old SRAM derailleur! It took maybe 20 minutes. Brilliant. Thanks

    Thank you! Fitted a new derailleur to my bike this evening following your instructions inc. indexing the gears with the chain off... Works a treat!

    • @flashman2008
      @flashman2008 3 года назад

      Update: Yeah, not quite as much of a treat as I initially thought... The chain catches (and jumps when powering down in top gear) on a couple of teeth at the top, on the second smallest sprocket (gear 10 of 11).
      Does anyone know what to do? Indexing is fine - smooth changes up and down, but just the chain jumps when putting serious torque through top gear.
      Could I solve the problem by fitting a larger chainring (currently 32T) to reduce the articulation from the smallest sprocket/highest gear (11T)?

      @@TheMaKeRvAnRIX I did the shifter too, got a gx. It was so easy. The only difference I did was I adjusted the high limit screws with the chain fitted. The low limit screw I did as intructed with no chain on. Shifting is amazing. Huge upgrade

      @@abshassan okay thank you, I ordered a trek x caliber 8. Comes with the sram sx setup but after reading that it's a below optimal build I have been looking for upgrades.
      Do the shifters have to be changed when the derailer is upgraded?
      Thanks for the info.

    • @abshassan
      @abshassan 3 года назад +1

      @@TheMaKeRvAnRIX No you can use the stock SX shifter but I'd highly recommend getting a better Shifter, the SX shifter does the job but its plastic and low quality.
      I highly recommend upgrading the chain too, the SX chain is pretty weak.
      At the end of the day, go ride your bike with the SX first and see how you go, the upgrade is highly worth it but you dont need do it straight away.

    Very thorough, Thank you, very much! There is also a white plastic tool that come with the kit, sort of like the red one you used to true the gap between chain and cassette. Do you know what the white one is for and how do you use it?

    • @FreeToCycle

      The white tool is just the updated version of the red one! It clips onto the largest sprocket on the cassette and then makes contact with the guide pulley the arrow then lines up with the Centre of the guide pulley!

    Mate, so I'm trying to run a SRAM GX 2.1 10-speed rear mech with a SRAM-Red 10 speed road shift lever. I can't seem to sort out the shifting around the 3rd and 4th cog (starting from the lockring) area on the cassette. It either won't shift up - and when I adjust it shift up - then it won't shift down. Any tips ? Cheers !

    I've just removed my derailleur to check the hanger alignment. Before removing it, I noticed that the B screw was pushing against the hanger, and NOT the little tab on the derailleur. The screw has actually caused marring of the hanger, and my hanger is actually just an extension of the frame - it's not separate. (steel frame). Am I to understand that the tab should be INBETWEEN the hanger, and the end of the B screw, such that the end of the screw rests on the tab? Is that the only purpose of the tab - to protect the hanger? Seems a bit odd.
