the fact that this piece is in response to a hate crime just makes it that much better and that much more powerful.

I LOVE this choir. Great soloist, and also the guy in middle of front row with the big smile is clearly loving to sing this song too. ALso love how each person is moving to their own sense of the song, and it enriches the song.

What strikes you first about a choir is how well they sing, but with this choir -- since they sing superbly from the get-go -- it was how they move. Maybe as a conductor you want them to move "as a choir" or not at all, but here each choir member moves as she or he feels and sings the music, so an astounding sense emerges of "the whole" as "the sum of its MOVING parts." I felt this even more powerfully in the "When the Earth Stands Still" video, where you feel "moving the body" is part of the deeper meaning of the work, even though there are sirens in the background. Did they affect the focus of the choir? Not at all. The availability of videos like this on RUclips lends astonishing validity to the Stephen Pinker idea that, if we were only willing to open our eyes, things are looking up. When I was the age of these singers, back in the early 60's, the experience of hearing a choir like this, in a part of the world I was completely unfamiliar with, would never have been possible. Bravo!

Because “dont BE afraid” is a charity founded because of this story ! Not sure if Be stands for anything tho
