no its about the speed, a few years ago the pentagon released a statement saying hypersonic nuclear missiles tested in china that use AI to guide and launch actually defied the laws of physics, you can google that, they observed it making multiple orbits around earth at speeds they could not explain with science.
The point of wasting the resources and energy in developing hypersonic missiles is, they're hypersonic; nothing can catch them... so it is about the speed.

But once they are launched they are on a balistic trajectory, meaning it is very easy to calculate intercepts for them. "Hypersonic GLIDE VEHICLEs" like the DF-27, Are able to manueuver within the atmosphere at speeds that would melt basically every object we currently fly into atoms. That's what a hypersonic missile is. Kyhnzal, can't move out of the way after its been launched and therefore it can get shot down.

Brains are always more important and every country has them including the USA based on the simple fact they had hypersonic technology since the 1940s. It was simply not a need for a long time. Budgets also help any modern military of any country. That's my answer and I'm sticking to it.

And if you're talking non-intercontinental they had a missile called the AIM-54 Phoenix that was carried by the F-14 tomcat that climbed to 100,000+ feet and went mach 5 with a range of 100 miles...also produced in the 70s. I could only imagine the technology we have now that they keep secret.

It's no coincidence that all of the latest Russian and Chinese super jets look a lot like American super jets. Actually USA flew a hypersonic x plane back in 1963.
Those missiles follow a ballistic trajectory just like any older missile in both the US and Russian arsenals. The new hypersonic missiles referred to in the video fly straight through the air like a cruise missile but at M5+ speeds. The US currently does not have anything like these at least at the moment.
