The Rain Songs is one of the best songs ever written. I shake my head every time I hear this song. So beautiful!!!!!
Right there with you @David-fh4sy, Rain Song is one of my all-time favorites!
I think this song uses a special tuning not used on any other song.
George Harrison posed a question to Jimmy, "How come you don't write a ballad, you don't have any" Jimmy responded with this song. plus, he played homage to Harrison's way of writing chord progressions within this composition.
@@leddygee1896actually after a concert Harrison was talking to Bonham, & said one problem is they don’t have a ballad. He was surprised too, that they played for 3 to 4 hours without taking a break. Bonham told Jimmy about the ballad thing, Jimmy’s response, hold my beer.
i heckin love it
two of the best live songs ever heard, zep in there prime. jimmy page epic guitar hero..
La and Che just realized Led Zeppelin is the best live band ever :) Keep it going fellas!
They’ve been climbing Mt. Everest. They’re as high as they can get! They made it to the top!
Zeppelin loved playing in LA also
@@jeffreysherrow8535 Just gotta see al the great vids now that thye havent yet seen!
@@monroegodette6440, you got that right! Between The Fabulous Forum and The Long Beach Arena, l can't tell you how many times l saw them. "LED HEAD" HERE!🤘😝🎶
These three concerts were for their movie, The Song Remains The Same, so they all were in perfect form. They always tried to give their concerts their all, they loved playing for their fans. On occasion Plants vocals weren’t perfect with some notes, but he would still give it all he could. Their improvisation for each concert, making each one of a kind, is what made them so great. Page would play whatever flowed out of him, & Plant’s vocals would be what’re ever popped in his head.
They always had total control over their music, that was a stipulation for signing with Atlantic Records. That’s why too Page produced mixed & edited all their albums, except I believe ITTOD. He’s done all the remastering, though he says not much is needed. He also did all the switching to CD’s, this band & their music is his baby, & he takes care of it.
May I recommend you watch the video of this…. Visually rewarding to see jimmy at work. The guitar playing on this is phenomenal
We are doing that next on our movie channel
Jimmy played this tune with his eyes closed. The ending guitar section, is simply the best, the video is awesome!

Awesome job guys! Thanks! 💯@@AirplayBeats
THE BEST...PERIOD.....next.....
The Rain Song is my favorite love song by Led Zeppelin. It makes me cry every time. That is a lot of crying since I remember when it first came out. Lol. George Harrison, in his critique of LZ, saying they don’t do ballads, inspired Jimmy Page to write the most incredible song. So thank you George (RIP).
This is one man playing the guitar. Unreal.
Sometimes even two guitars.
I stand corrected Peter....
Jimmy the Wizard
So I have always thought Rain Song live is one of Roberts best performances. Love you guys. I think youve won over many Ld Zeppelin fans.
It’s rare when a band assembles, fills every gap musically, plays and writes songs like they’ve been together forever.
It's like the same soul divided into 4 separate beings when incarnating on this earth. You can see why the rumour of doing a deal with the devil is whispered around...
This is why they were the most popular band of the 70's...period. Back in High School as you walked thru the parking lot this was almost all you heard coming from ppl's cars..Zeppelin
Yes. I was there 😊
Yep, that is the truth! I was one of them too. Zep ruled the world in the 70's! ☮️
@@oldzephead1237 Yep, wasn't that just the BEST time period ever..
@@mr.snicker-doodles7081 Yes, it was, wish we could go back in time!
Good times, damn good times….. 🤘🍻
And to think this stuff is 50 years old. I still enjoy it as much as the first time I ever listened to it. Jimmy Page is probably my all time favorite musician. He said in an interview once that he wanted to make lasting music. Pretty sure he accomplished that.
No no no. Zepp is the BEST Band and Group of the 20th Century, period!!!
Totally agree. Unparalleled and unequaled in the annals of music history. Page is the greatest musical pioneer of the 20th century. In my opinion.
@@Ledgar64💯
When I was in high school, every day I’d show up early so I could park my Mustang in “my spot” so I could crank up Zeppelin on my 8-track and blow my Pioneers OUT! The 70s was a GREAT time to be alive for music!
Yes! And we never had competing music! In my 68 Cougar, I didn't have an 8-track, so I parked as close as I could to the person that I knew would have the best music - that was the place to be during lunch! Then, in 1974 ((2 years after graduation) I saw Led Zeppelin in concert and, of course, it was better than anything on tape or radio! Best concert of my life!
@@danacasey8543 I wished had the opportunity to see them live (I’m so jelly). I got to see Robert Plant live for his Now and Zen tour and he was amazing which ultimately only regret never seeing Zeppelin live even more.
One thing of note about this live version of "The Song Remains The Same" is that Page plays the whole song on the 12 string neck of his doubleneck, including all the lead work; incredible playing. Then following it up on the 6 string neck of his doubleneck with "The Rain Song"; one of the prettiest songs ever written! Incredible song writing and playing!
Led Zeppelin is the Monster Jimmy Page put together as a vehicle for his vision. In the doing this, he created and guided them to being immorta. Their music will go on for generations. They are up there with the Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Pink Floyd and all the music that is like heirlooms to be passed to generations.
These men were all Masters of their art!
I've always maintained that that's what made them the greatest, they were ALL masters of their instruments.
The most astute observation of the way the guitar is always with the drums, which is not typical.
Most complicated time signatures; and yet its gets pulled together. Any lesser musicians could easily devolve into chaos.
Simply the GOAT.
Rain Song is immaculate.
Gentlemen another spectacular reaction. Strap your boots on pull up your pants and get ready for mind blowing trip. Wait until you hear Jimmy take you for a space trip with his guitar on Dazed And Confused . Side two is the entire improvised song 26 mins long. Enjoy what you are doing thank you for taking my request…
Our pleasure my friend!!
Oh hell yes. Cannot WAIT for that one
@@AirplayBeatswith the love of Bonham’s drumming, you really need to watch his 20 minute solo, I think the best version is from Earls Court (1975). It gives the best visuals of him playing, & definitely shows why he’s the greatest drummer. It’s called Moby Dick, he played that solo over 200 times, sometime during a 3 to 4 hour nonstop concert. I hope you check it out.
You're 💯 about it being Jimmy's night!!! Wait til you hear him tear it up on Dazed & Confused. 💥💥
Oh God yes!
Page and Bonham are at absolute PEAK as a unit in 1973. The Europe leg bootlegs in March are ridiculous. BTW the Rain Song is a damn masterpiece. It’s like listening to a grand symphony. I think with Zeppelin at this time the compositions and arrangements were just unmatched.
The Rain Song was inspired by George Harrison daring Jimmy to write a ballad. Boy, did he deliver!!! I think Rain Song is their most underrated song. It is a masterpiece.
Mind blown. Just staggering.
Zep is Page's band. He leads,Bonham follows,Jones is the gluez Plant is the cherry on top.
Page is the Brain, Bonham the heart, Plant the the Balls and JPJ holds everything together.
Perfectly said
Great reaction guys!! Live is where Zeppelin really shone - their studio albums are the stuff of legend, but live, they became the Hindenburg and were on fire! Page especially - something about performing, his bottle of Jack Daniels, cigarettes burning away - and he was FREE!! Not that Bonham & Jones were restrained, far from it - but as the rhythm section, they had to reign in Page after his six-string journeys! They knew how to improvise.
Cheers!
First saw this in 1977, walked in to the Oakland Theatre a Skynyrd fan, walked out a LZ fan till today! Best band EVER! Consider they play their songs, which many are difficult in the studio, and yet blast them into a new experience live!
Two of the greatest bands ever.
Next question is did you then go see Zep at Day on Green that summer? Last performance in US due to Plant’s son dying sadly.
Yes, 2nd Deck straight back from center of stage, last row. Loudest thing I ever heard. And had to wait over two hours before they came out..Saw Skynyrd same summer!@@steveguth1987
Very well said!!! Bonzo is the backbone!!! And it always stays in time and is just amazing!
Best and most versatile band ever. They went from A to Z and back.
Thank you for complimenting them!!! Exactly how I feel everytime I hear the album!!!!!
The Rain Song is still my favorite Zeppelin song...I never, ever, ever Tyre of listening to this song. Even after 40 years...
I've been listening to this since 1978. I'm 60 years old now. The last song I hear in my time on this Earth? THIS recording of "The Rain Song"....and I'm NOT kidding.
If you've ever watched footage of Zeppelin, Jimmy Page often set himself up directly in front of John Bonham's bass drum. Which is a dangerous place to be, but Page often said he wanted to feel the full force of it when he played and improvised, and Bonzo's foot played into his solo's. Stairway, Sick Again, Achilles, Kashmir. Numerous examples of this.
I used to fall asleep to this album all the time when I was a young kid. It was my older brothers album. We shared a room w bunkbeds. He was 15 I was 10. We wore this entire album OUT
This album is a freaking masterpiece. This was my first album and has such an influence in my life.
Lots of us here that consider Rain Song their favorite LZ song - me too! The chords are angelic, and the lyrics are sublime.
Rain song is my favorite ✌️🤟
Led Zeppelin is incredible LIVE! I saw them at MSG, in 1976! It was something I will never forget! They are the best band ever!!❤️❤️❤️❤️RIP John Bonham!
One of the greatest performances ever.
Jimmy has always stood out for me ever since I heard black dog, Stairway to heaven is the most requested radio song in history and will be for a long time so in some ways you can best band ever
One of the best times of my life…hearing this live at MSG …
Im a big tough unit. 25 yrs in the force yet this tune turns me into a blubbering wreck. So beautiful
One of my favorite Zeppelin Albums. This was a double album. And the albums rocked! I was in high school in B'ham Al when this live album was released. It was made in 1973, but this album was released 1976 I remember! Legendary Band! RIP Drummer, "John (Bonzo) Bonham!" 👍💯
Guys, you did the Zeppelin catalog perfectly. Starting with all of their studio works allowed you to first understand their intent with every recording. Now your perspectives of their live performances come from experience. This is what so many reactors get wrong. Congrats 👈 🍻
At the movie theater everyone's jaw dropped during this segment.
And after the movie ended, and the house lights came on, nothing but a huge haze of smoke in the theatre. Lol!😊
It's always one hell of a pocket. I've read Bonham was actually following Page . Either way, they were really locked in! These guys really listened & played off each other.---These 2 cuts may be may fav live Zep. Man, they killed it! It was a peak. Also, on the studio recording of TSRTS Page plays may layers of riffs on top of each other. He has to play them individually live, & each one holds up on it's own.
Yeah. Page sets tempo. They are all incredible! The stars aligned when they all got together!
That’s right-Bonzo followed Jimmy and Jonesy played ON TOP of them…
Yes exactly right
YAY two of the **Best** songs EVER!!! **Luvit**
Greatest segue of all time
Yes absolutely watch "Dazed and Confused" and "Whole Lotta Love", I want to see the part when your eyes pop out of your head like me and my brother way back when we saw this on VHS
I have the DVD and it's still amazing!
This is an example of why I was known by my friends, in high school in the mid- to late 70s, as a Led Head. They are such incredible musicians. I haven’t heard it recently, but back then people described Bonham’s style as “lead drums” and you can certainly hear that in The Song Remains the Same..
Hands down, this band is the greatest.Their diverseness and masterful musicianship is unmatched. These two songs prove my point.
You guys do a great job of describing what they do musically, and that's why no one else has ever been able to pull this off. The genius of Jimmy Page knowing what he wanted to do and put these guys together is unprecedented. Put your seat belts on for Dazed and Confused! And also the Whole Lotta Love encore!
Btw , in the late 1970’s I went to a cinema and saw this concert , I was 11/12 years old and that was it for me ! I’ve been a huge Zeppelin fan ever since .
Hendrix “Power to Love” live at Fillmore 1970. Is a must watch!
I always loved Zep but this is best I ever heard. Genius
The Mighty Zep ❤❤❤ Btw, Page always stood out in live performances. Live, with his studio wizardry stripped away, it was just the man and his guitar - and he was Awesome!
When i hear this album i think of sitting in MSG (1977), being perfectly stoned, and experiencing the magic of Led Zeppelin. To this day (& probably forever) the best concert I've seen.
I was too young, and on the other side of the world, but if I could time travel (and just travel 😂) I’d go back to be at this concert. I’m so jealous of anyone who experienced this live!!
There is an acoustic version of The Rain Song with only Page and Plant and an Orchestra. It’s one of the most beautiful versions I’ve heard. Page kills it on the acoustic guitar.
By far my fav from them As a teen i had to learn this on guitar more than any song they played and at 59 i still play it at least 2 or 3 times a week The ending gets me every time Ita a masterpiece
I got this album. Probably my favorite
From the very beginning of The Rain Song, you could have heard a pin hit the floor of the Garden, everyone in the crowd was so entranced by what they were hearing and seeing that they just wanted to enjoy the show. It may have had something to do also with the aroma in the air also.
One of the more moving songs in rock history.
I’ve probably listened to this version of the song The Song Remains The Same over a thousand times in my life and Jimmy Page blows my mind each and every time
A giant. A Mount Rushmore guitarist.
You should have reacted to the video of this performance on their concert movie Song Remains The Same. Watching Page's solos is mind blowing and never gets old.
This is probably the best live performance ive ever seen, phenomenal!!😊
These two songs together are amazing...what a trip and you SHOULD watch it...incredible
When you watch the movie you'll see when Page takes off on them & JP & John look at each other and John just shrugs
These four were geniuses, and I’m not exaggerating at all. Enjoy it, take it in, and relish it, because you will never hear anything quite as beautiful as this ever again.
For me,Rain song is their best song and this is best version of it
They are so tight. Incredible
They were all geniuses in their own right! Like we used to say the gods came together with these four men! You DO have to watch how great they were live! Incredible!
You guys are the best I’ve said it before. Love your reactions but yes on this album Led Zeppelin made their already great songs that much better.
This live version of The Rain Song is so incredible , so moving and so beautiful . I’ve been listening to this for decades and it always brings me to tears but it’s also exhilarating as well . This live version of The Song Remains The Same is also powerful in a different way . They were truly masterful musicians. I don’t think we will come across this level of quality ever again , sadly .
Bill Graham was the concert promoter for the Oakland San Francisco concerts and MSG . He was a friend of Led Zeppelin. He stated at that time LZ was the only group that was guaranteed to instantly sell out 2 weeks at MSG. He also acknowledged LZ brought out a “dangerous” element in the fans because they were so intense and mostly male. His memoir is excellent with a whole chapter devoted to LZ. He tragically died in a helicopter crash.
@@thewraiths8963 I remember him saying "They were the only Initiation Band..... where their fans were willing to die for them."
Only THEY had that power.
Lovely reaction. And yeah man I personally think that jpj shined on this ultimately but they're all so damn good. And I love them all
That Rain song live was amazing!
Wait until you hear Page's playing on Dazed and Confused
What a great reaction La & Che! I’ve been waiting for this particular one! There are so many great artists, bands but for me Beatles & Zeppelin were above the rest in creativity, impact, variety! Great! Like watching a La & Che react!
The Rain Song 🌧️🙌🏽
You haven’t seen Jimmy play guitar until you watch “Dazed and Confused” from the same Concert.
At the end of the rain song Jimmy plays the beautiful improv outro with his eyes shut!!!
Rain song live from msg. It's stunningly beautiful!!
May I recommend you watch or listen to Page and Plant unleaded the concert it's called No Quarter and was a set played with an orchestra in 1994 for MTV unplugged series. Kashmir, rain song, battle of evermore and since I've been loving you are just 4 mind blowing, amazing songs from this majestic concert. Once seen, never forgotten, Page is sublime, Plant ageless, pure perfection.
If you don't react, then take time to listen and watch as its a masterclass performance. ❤
Thanks!
🔥Mighty Zeppelin 🔥
When I first heard Led Zeppelin it was studio stuff. They use a lot of over dubs Page especially. I remember wondering how they could do it live. Then I saw and heard them and I realized they did it with per energy and musicianship. Page himself almost sounds like he lays back on the studio tracks and brings out that fire on stage to make up for the over dubs. It really is amazing. Another thing to me that makes them great. Let me give JPJ his props for filling in some space as well. Live is different but just as good in a whole different way.
8:00 Bro you is spot on @ Bonzo. MASTERS!!! PERIOD. period!
The rain make you check your emotional compass
Personally, in my opinion: the relationship between Page & Bonham was SO TIGHT and SO SPECIAL - they played off and WITH each other - almost like they were one person playing the drums and the guitar at the same time with four arms!! ....and, that relationship bled over into JPJ and Plant....they were just SUCH a SPECIAL and UNIQUE BAND that will, as far as I'm concerned, NEVER be even CLOSE to being DUPLICATED! :) Makes me happy to listen to ANY of their music!! JUST....SO....GOOD!!! ENJOY, FELLAS!!! 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Total EARGASM! 🎸🎹🎼🥁
You have to understand this concert was to be filmed over 3 nights at MSG in 1973, so that means they are going to bring their A game. LZ, individually shot fantasy sequences that were incorporated with Robert and SRTS/Rsin song, JPJ, No Quarter, Jimmy, Dazed and Confused, and Bonham, Moby Dick. The film sat in the can for 3 years until Robert's car accident then LZ released it that year in 1976.
"Bohham brought a gun to a fist fight!" Damn! That says it all! Yes Bonham had two huge timpani drums on the left side of his kit. I remember the day he died. The music world was in shock, and I remember the tributes on the radio. Love your reaction and comments. Thanks
The greatest to ever do it. Never heard anything better…and I’ve tried, trust me.
Just absolutely magical!
These 2 songs Live is a perfect example of why, no matter how many concerts they did, they could never meet the ticket demand.
Best part the album.. absolute 🔥, love’73 versions of TsRTS -tight, fluid, and smackless ..
YOU ARE SO RIGHT ON THIS REACTION...JIMMY PAGE WAS A MASTER RYTHYM GUITARIST AND ALWAYS FOLLOWED BONHAM'S DRUMMI G
As some have said, would be good to watch some of this live, great stage presence, Jimmy in the dragon suit and for sure Moby Dick.
This is my favourite version of Rain Song. It's magnificent. When time travel finally gets invented I will sell my literal soul to go back in time and follow them on tour.
Gotta watch the movie. Takes it to another level
I graduated high school in 1979 and we would go watch this movie every Saturday night at the Midnight Movie. You didn't have to smoke any weed before you went because you were guaranteed to get a contact high in the theater!
