The verse before this he mentions the gates of hell. Jesus's metaphor keys may be to open this door. You are right he lets people out.

Peter did not reveal Jesus to be Messiah, Simon revealed that. For whatever reason Jesus calls Simon Peter, Simon or Peter, Simon is the one blessed by God and full of faith, Peter is a stone. Peter is always faithless and failing Jesus. Jesus calls Peter a stumbling block. What becomes of stumbling blocks in Matthew 18? Simon asks Jesus to call him to walk on water. Peter sinks for lack of faith. Peter's death is not detailed in the Bible. If he was crucified upside down, who that is faithful would request that, as tradition says? It's endless in the Bible. Who is Peter, really?

Was the keys only for Peter ? Does this make him a so-called pope?

Nor mine. I believe the digression between Simon and Jesus ends with Simon being called Peter. Then the conversation resumes with the disciples, as it began.
