Hi Lars, Thanks for the good video showing the difficulties of the mud season. Forgive me for being a ‘safety-ist’, but from personal experience, maybe next time get the kids to sit up front with you when towing. If the tow strap snaps or a shackle comes loose, the strap could fly up over the tailgate into their faces. Unlikely, but could be catastrophic.
The back bench was only piece of wood! and there was no 2nd front-seat at all 🤣. So I think he gave the kids the only option 😉. But really , very risky for kids in this operation. They could have gone in the Honda?
The Orthodox Church use the Julian Calendar, so Easter will be a bit later, May 5. But I wholeheartedly with you, my christian brother. Happy Resurrection day!
the honda has stupid low profile tires. that thing would literally get stuck on a slight uphill slope with wet grass... but I get your point, the soviet truck did it's job well. For sure.
HAPPY EASTER EVERYONE! 🎉 There's something so very comforting and reassuring about a small and basic vehicle, to us guys who grew up having to know how to use "feeler-gauges, using the rubber tyre-wall to clean the rotor-arm contacts, etc, for daily roadside repairs just to make our journey! Ha ha. I had two Fiat Panda's 4x4, and it got me out of snow drifts that the trendy car's of the time (Ford capri 2.8i, Vauxhall Senator 3.0i, BMW M5, Jaguar XJS 6.O etc, all getting stuck in 6in of snow, and I want sailing past them all up Leven bank in North Yorkshire, giving them a BEEP BEEP as my thin Colway mud & snow 'pram tyres'😂 gripped perfectly in the deep snow. Great memories and your little vehicle bring those days flooding back with such fond and affectionate reminiscing. Thank you, 😊Lars, my friend.
Just fired up my 1973 blazer yesterday after it sat for 2 years . The old 454/7.4 fired rite up. Now the desert just needs rain so I can play in the mud. With 3.08 gears in the axles and the big block engine it will send mud into low earth orbit in 4x4 high range.

If you simply put on chains in these conditions, you'll end up digging 4 holes to China. It must be a compromise between grip, weight, torque and a brain of the driver.
Uh... yeah no. Grew up in Wyoming, with chain laws for driving on the roads at times, and live in Wisconsin, chains are for ICE and pack snow. Mud is not like pack snow where you can smash it down, its like slush and chains are worthless in slush.
I was listening to a vehicle engineer the other day. Was talking about different engineering styles. Japanese vs German cars. The Germans build vehicles that, if proper maintenance is done, will last a long time. The Japanese on the other hand know how humans are and that maintenance is often neglected and build vehicles that.... Well Hilux. Enough said. I suspect Russian is closer to the Japanese concept I suspect.
@@hhg7832 lol German cars are known POS even with proper maintenance That's why the rich that lease them get rid of them right before their warranty runs out
Not safe with the kids in the back in case the strap were to break and snap back. The little 4x4 might not be strong enough to break the strap, but why take the chance? I've seen many of those straps break and they always recoil like a stretched rubber band.
Some parts around ur house looks like Venice... U shoudl start digging some canals... to get the water away... and invite some Tourists... O Solemio.... Venice is alos built in a swamp... near the sea.
Just like my old Suzuki Samari - because of its light weight, I could go places bigger, more powerful, 4x just could not reach. Especially in muddy conditions. Light footprints #lbs per sq. In. Is the key to navigating mud. Engine power is less important. Even a small, high torque diesel low geared can do the job just fine. For speed, pulling loads, and overall highway ability, etc. Is where the bigger, more powerful vehicles have the advantage.
Things were built to last back in the 80s. Everything is junk now, many people included. Anyone had to hire and train anyone under 25 these days? Yikes is all I can say…
Hello from Oklahoma!Good Video! Ah, the joys of spring time. I've owned several 4x4 trucks. I've also been pretty adamint about a winch on my 4x4's. I don't know if it would've helped in this situation.
That Ridgeline is not the problem, it is the tires on the Ridgeline! He has street tires in mud and that is NEVER a good mix! You put some good mud tires on that Ridgeline and it would do just fine. It is the same problem as with a Humvee with standard road, light off road tires. There is not enough grip and just get loaded down with mud. You put mudders on a Humvee and they are incredible off road!

Are tire chains not a thing in your area of Russia? They are quite effective in mud.
not when something like clay comes into the picture might as well be black ice that has give
Chains are OK for winter use. Clay just sticks to everything!
If you simply put on chains in these conditions, you'll end up digging 4 holes to China.

Ditto on the clay. That’s what we have here in East Tennessee as well. I ain’t ever seen no hillbillies put chains on their tires for mud and clay.
