- Enjoy our Amtrak Acela Business Class trip from Washington DC to New York City. We were blown away by the view we saw upon arriving into NYC from DC on the Acela (Acela Express). The Amtrak Acela is a high speed rail train. This used to be called the Acela Express but they changed the route a bit and now it is just the Acela. We had Amtrak Acela business class seats for this video. We rode the Amtrak Acela from DC to New York City. We arrived at Penn Station (Moynihan Train Hall).

Thanks for posting! We got reasonable business class seats going up this summer and coach coming back. Our first public transport vacation in the US. Acela-> Downeaster -> bus -> ferry to Monhegan Island, Maine, and back again. You two were our inspiration! Thanks!
🚆🚌⛴️ Sounds like a great trip!! Might try something like that myself, but maybe add in a ride share and see if I can make it to Bar Harbor
I love all of your travel videos. Due to health issues,i cant travel long distance,so i cruise and train travel ,through the two of you 😊❤
I’ve been watching your channel now for the past couple weeks and I am very impressed with all of the Amtrak travel that you have completed. I had a goal of traveling to all 50 states before my 50th birthday which was a little over 10 years ago now and I put together a map of all the states that I have not traveled to and compare that to the Amtrak national map to pick the trains I would need in order to visit the states remaining on my list. I am proud to say that I did visit all 50 states, and that a significant number of them were achieved via Amtrak, South Dakota was the most difficult state to reach, but I too, have traveled around the country many times on every long-distance train, except for the city of New Orleans and the auto train
I've got the NYC to DC route booked in July. IF I get lucky I'll use one of my upgrade passes to first class then too.
Love seeing videos from you guys ❤❤ Future goals for sure
I absolutely loved the video. I would love to travel like this to all these different places but unfortunately can't afford it...not yet ! I hope you realize how blessed you are to be able to have this travel together. And how grateful many of us are that you share it with us. Be safe and enjoy your journeys❤
I take the Amtrak train from Washington DC where I live to Connecticut several times a year. Sometimes I just go to New York and visit my brother. I don’t take Acela because I’m retired. I’m trying not to spend much money. I do get to go to the first class waiting room/lounge because I have a friend who has a lot of those tickets. He shares often. I love riding the train. I try to ride in the middle of the week when it’s not as crowded as the weekends especially when it’s crowded around New York City. I love your videos.
Going on my 1st train adventure on the Northeast Regional from Boston to DC next week. Many thanks to you folks for the inspiration.
Planning to ride from NC to Florida this fall! You have inspired me!
We love the Acela...we use it to travel from Maryland to Boston.
Did an upgrade coupon WAS-NYP.. Nice meal served at seat.
Thank you for another wonderful video
Allie and Rob, I truly loved watching this sweet trip. You’re always perfectly balanced with information and views. That sandwich did look delicious too. Thank you so much for my train rides with you. ❤
I wish I knew you guys were stopping in at 30th St. Station in Philadelphia. I live in Philadelphia and would had done everything I could just to meet and greet with you even if it was just for a few minutes. My vacation trip starts at 30th street station and ends in Newport News VA. in July.
Very relaxing video thanks for sharing.
You can buy a lounge pass with your points regardless of what tier your in. Great video 👍🏿
Thank you for your share you video
What a great video. I suppose I think it is great because it brings back so many memories. Thank you
WOW changes since 2004...want to go again.. Thanks..memories.....
My what a pleasant trip! Thanks!
What is the reason for taking the Acela from DC to NY? Asking because it cost more and still makes a lot of the same stops as the other trains
If you purchase far enough in advance you can find tickets for as low as $70 one way. Regular Amtrak as low as $20
🇬🇧 Watching from the UK, thanks for inspiring always 🎉🎉❤
Planning to do this exact trek for New York City! Thank you for sharing this vlog with us! You were informative and fun to listen to
Thanks for posting. This video was so relaxing like an ASMR video.
ASMR? May I ask what that is?

I watched all videos u post because I can learn ❤
I too love traveling by train, and that's why I enjoy watching your videos.
Thank you ! What is the date of this train ride? I watch your cruise channel also !
I would love to have seen you and Rob riding in Business Class with other people. To be honest, most riders are in Coach or Business Class. Glad you are at last experiencing what most Amtrak riders experience. Rooms are too costly.
Thanks for sharing. Our family is going on our 1st Amtrak ride on coach seats from Washington D.C to Orlando fl. In June then we take the Uber to our cruise on our 1st time on MSC Seaside 🙏 we enjoy your channel. You really help us prepare for our trip. Pam&Gus from Maryland
My airline doesn’t use carts and it was super interesting to see you set up yours, thanks for that!
The day you guys went to NYC, my wife and I took the Silver Meteor (bedroom) from Washington DC to Florida. I commute between Washington DC and NYC so I travel the Acela and Northeast Regional regularly. I saw a video entitled 'Amtrak Will Unveil New Line Of Acela Trains In 2023' by CBS philadelphia . The reporter at the end mentioned that they will start rolling out the new trains in the Fall of 2023 and have a complete fleet change by the end of 2024.
Awesome! We just heard there are more delays with the new trains. It could happen but also could be delayed
I had some Amtrak points to burn so I got an Acela express business class ticket I had a blast
I like it
What a breathtaking view from your window 😂
My husband took that DC to NYC when we lived in DC but he worked in Manhattan. He told me lots of stories about being in the 'quiet' car.
I can relate, I am doing that now living with my wife in DC but working in Brooklyn.
Thanks for posting! I do miss the northeast and the relative ease of traveling via Amtrak. I'm in Tucson now and, if I want to take Amtrak into LA, there are only the overnight (yuck) trains that run three times per week.
Yes, those times are rough, and the arrival into LA is really early!
If you arrive in DC on a sleeper (Crescent), switch to Acela to Boston, does the first class ticket on arrival give you access to Metropolitan Lounge?
What your go to hotel in New York by the Amtrak station?
This was the most recent post I saw so I am asking a question although on another subject: Do I recall you mentioning it was possible to change a roomette assignment if you preferred a different location?
Yes, you can change if you call in, but they shouldn't charge you more to do so. Sometimes they try to.
I was hoping yall would've showed Harrah's Casino & Racetrack Philadelphia when the train was about 15-20 minutes from William H. Gray III 30th Street Station. As usual, good job.
I often take this from WASH to NYC. I especially like Business Class.
@grounded Life travel I have a Question? Do you ever get motion sickness?
I see you two on Amtrak a lot. Are there any discounts for say AARO members
Hello, I will be traveling to the United States and I will use the train for the first time from New York to Boston in March, I have the Acela option which is more expensive and the nothest cheapest, these days in your opinion I can choose the cheapest and the comfort Will it be similar or is there already a big difference in any updated train?
Ask yourself this; would you rather take another plane from New York to Boston, or would you rather spend the money on this train and get there in comfort and without the hassle of having to go through customs again?
I really love your videos and look forward to new ones all the time. This is another great video! I am wondering if you both have considered taking the train up through Western Massachusetts and up to the Canadian border? I know it stops in Springfield, Northampton, and Greenfield, MA.
I camt believe the schmutz on your window inthis video. You would think that Amtrak would wipe them down at times. I know it is on the out side but a squeegee would do wonders for the view from the inside.
I belive that she and her hubby did make a trip here into Canada in one video.
Checking your lunch out--that did not look like a hot dog in a bun, but perhaps a taco or pita bread sandwich.
Does the Acela have dedicated track or does it "have to share with freight?
No "long distance" freight on this section of the corridor. Only freight action is local deliveries to / pickups from line side customers, plus Amtrak's work trains.
What is your cruise channel?
Were the seats comfortable in business class?
How did you manage to get a seat with the filthiest window?
You guys are the true train conductor’s of our time. I have a question. My husband and I are traveling over night in a sleeper from Chicago to New York, for our 30th. anniversary. Can I decorate it? Like the windows and door. Nothing big. Thanks. Safe travels.
Good question, we've never seen it done, like on a cruise ship. I'd bring it and ask the room attendant.
Where do you put your luggage?
Business seats are short legged😵💫. How much more for first class?? I’m 6’-2”. Or better to just go coach? It would be a let’s go to NYC to sightsee trip.
We often sit in the first row coach seats, right where the disabled wheelchair area are located. Plenty of legroom there.
I will be on Acela this June. I have a free upgrade to first class. Is it worth it?
well if it's free, then why not? it gives you complimentary lounge access and a free meal as well! if you have an upgrade coupon it's definitely worth upgrading from Business to First on the Acela than Coach to Business on the Northeast Regional. Doing the latter pretty much only gives you free non-alcoholic drinks, but you already get free water from the taps on the end of each car anyways.
There was some talk a few years ago about creating a high-speed (possibly mag-lev) train from either Richmond, VA (where I live) or from DC to New York, on dedicated tracks, non-stop to arrive in 35 minutes. I thought that was a great idea, but I guess the cost was too much to convert the tracks, and the resulting ticket prices too high to be viable. I have taken Amtrak many times from Richmond to DC, and because the train stops at every ho-dunk town along the way, you can actually drive up interstate 95 faster, unless there is an accident at Quantico, VA. Just saying.
NY to DC by MAG-LEV would be the best way to highlight what new infrastructure can and should do. As you said costs are probably the reason it hasn't moved forward. Think though of hourly travel between the two. That would be a tangible example of what and how to build.
@@RobertWilke, it _is_ possible to build maglev, but there needs to be a lot of societal support for it, and also ( _maybe_ ) it being used for _longer_ distances (say, between New York to Los Angeles.)
I Love You Amtrak Acela Express Trains ❤️🚆❤️
Is this a high speed train?
It is called Lunner, Lunch + Dinner, to get the aforementioned Lunner!
You rode past my house in Bristol, Pa, but it didn't make the video.
I have been watching your travels but i dont see a video of just using coach instead of roomettes. Do you have any videos of just riding in coach
Visiting from Australia August 2024. Taking fullsize luggage - any suggestions/comments? Thanks!
Check the website dealing with Acela to see what kind of luggage you can take on it.
I like your videos, you do a great job. However, most of the trackside scenery is not worth seeing. And that is true of almost any route. I love the journey and seeing the country side with all it's warts and pimples. This is not a very picturesque route. But a good one. Thanks.
NYC to Boston is more scenic, with the long stretch along the CT coast. NY to Bos is slower than NY to DC, though.

Price please.
What? No train tour ?
Man that business class is WAY TOO NOISY for me. Glad you didn't need a nap😊😂
There is a Business Quiet Car that you can book.
IMO, Washington to NY with all those stops make any time advantage of Acela negligible. I guess I have been spoiled by the high speed train systems in Western Europe.
If you wish it to be faster, then you know what to do come election time (and after it, by pressuring your elected representative to make the trains faster.)
Hate to say it Urban America has gone to s…t
Too many stops. Not worth the premium over the regular NER trains.
Why pay so much money,to get there quicker….
Not much to see. 26:07
You might want to edit out the graffiti cover bridges and buildings.
Acela is a joke. it saves about an hour only. And it's tracks are regular train tracks, not dedicated high speed tracks like in Europe!!!
Omg white and black people
How do you afford to travel
They have a whole channel for that - Grounded Life Finances
They mention that in other videos here on grounded life travel how they travel so much on Amtrak and they do not work for Amtrak either.
