  • Do we need another Titleist iron T100s review. Titleist have lots of iron sets on the market and the T100s is yet another golf iron for you to test and maybe buy. Why do the T100 and now the newer T100s irons need to be there and have you waisted your money buying your T100 irons? Titleist golf have been making great irons for years and Titleist irons have been popular on the PGA and European tours for many years. Can they bring the Titleist magic to this T100s which is basically a stronger lofted Titleist golf club with the same looks as the T100 irons. Have you ever played Titleist irons and would you consider testing the newer T100s irons? let me know in the comments below.
Stay tuned for the new TSi driver reviews coming soon with real golfer numbers to show you just how good this new driver from Titleist golf really is.

I think its about fitting a set between wedges and hybrids. I have AP2s and my gap is 50° so the AP2 PW starting at 46 is perfect. My 27hb fits perfectly above the 6i. The T100s set would create a gap issue. But if I had another manufacturers set....the the S set might fit just right.....so maybe that's it's selling point.....the S blends into replacing a stronger set better.

Mark, I think the point on this is something you've mentioned in prior videos, fitting in the UK on the whole is vague and that's being kind. Big brands like American golf know what sells and that's distance and that's excadlt why I feel Titleist made this the t100s and no other reason. Getting "fit" with a 7 iron alone is a massive problem and probably the biggest reason why I refrain from buying new clubs, I'd rather buy second hand to the spec I feel is close to what I need and if I don't like them then sell them on. It's a haphazard approach granted but is relatively risk free expense wise. Intil fitting gets better with more options to try right through the lofts they will keep selling 7 irons that go 190 yards as the customer will go on the assumption that the other clubs will be 10 yards + or -. Great vid bruh. So interesting.

James Wigg Many manufacturer’s seem to struggle delivering sets of irons in the specs you get fitted for. People need to get in the habit of getting them checked by the seller before you take them home.

I have done exactly what you’re talking about with used sets. I’m currently using AP2 that I picked up for $250 4-W1 and had them bent to my lie angle (2 up) and then bought used 818H1 hybrids to get rid of the 4&5 irons. I’m getting a bit older (51) and am looking at getting T100s in a lighter shaft than the DG I currently have. The extra yards sound appealing from the S version but it would just change gapping with wedges and hybrids and require different clubs there too so what’s the point? Just changes the number on the bottom of the club for yardages really and that’s an ego issue more than actual help in my mind. I like the gapping of traditional lofts better for the rest of my set and don’t care what the number says.

You can easily blend the T100s with the T200 . The T100 was hard to blend with the loft difference. You had two 6 irons when you played Titleist equipment but most people aren't going to do that. Also, if people buy stronger lofted irons they need more wedges to fill the gaps and Vokey dominates that market.

I bought the t100 S because the i found the weighting of the head did tend to help me prevent going left. I found I could play more of a controlled cut shot without losing distance of a straight or left shot. I also found the lofts fit better in my bag with the clubs in top and bottom of my range of my bag.
Great work guys you’re still one of my favourite RUclips golf channels! I like the mix of content you deliver, keep it coming.

I'm glad you explained about increasing fitting options as otherwise I wouldnt see the point other than the 7 iron goes further and the impact of that on sales. My golfing mates are all at least 20 years younger than me hit stronger lofted clubs than me (AP2s) and seem to think its good that they're hitting a PW into a 138 yard hole and I use an 8 iron. I usually end up with a better gross score after 18 holes

These probably combo better with T200. For anyone that wanted a stronger lofted T100 to reduce launch and spin, but didn’t want to add offset by bending them strong the S is a good option. It just gives Titleist fans a stronger lofted iron in a players profile. Options are great! 👍

This iron for a subset of golfers who have a lot of speed and add a lot of dynamic loft at impact. I went to one of the best fitters in the country and my fitting resulted in having my irons bent strong - not because I needed more distance, but because I needed to reduce launch and peak height.
Turns out this type of player is very common so titleist built a club that met those needs without having to bend irons, which in turn changes the offset and bounce of the iron

I completely agree with mark. I hate it so much how people tell us to go and get fit... we get there and it’s a 7 iron across the board and half the fitters don’t even have a GC quad. If a fitter doesn’t have a GC quad don’t go to them.

Hi Mark, For the last 10 years I have played Ping irons. About 18 months ago I switched to Titliest AP2's. Love the club, love the feel - but they just don't go anywhere. For example, I hit around 160-165 for a 7 iron, now i hit around 150-155 with the titleists. So I am always having to pick out a lower number than I am used to. Standing over a 165 yard shot with a 6 iron just messes with my head. I know its really only about loft, but my brain is screaming at me that I have too much club in my hand. The reality for people like me, is that the 100s fits more in with what I am used to, and fits in more with the lofts that almost all other manufactures of similar irons offer !!
Without 100s - I would have move away from titlesit and looked at Taylormade, Srixon, etc
Had I grown up with tradional lofting, then maybe it wouldn't be a problem - Had I had serious club head speed, maybe not a problem again - but as a 8 handicap club golfer....100s is a great club for people moving across from a lot of other manufactures !

  • @MakinComputers

    These exist for 2 reasons:
    1) there was quite a big gap in lofts from the t100 to the t200 and taking loft off by bending a t100 stronger will tend to increase offset, so these will fit in between them and allow for better fitting of mixed sets.
    2) the jpx 919 forged.

I own these not because I care about hitting a 7 iron further, but because they gap perfectly behind my hybrid without having to be bent. Added a 48 degree Vokey at the bottom end and the setup is working really well for me.

I naturally launch the ball high. I was fit into the T100s and it gives me a much more piercing trajectory, while hitting the non S every shot was a moonball. T100s still produces enough spin for me to sit a 5 iron from 205. Wonderful irons.

I'm pretty certain I'm moving from my AP2's to either the 100 or 100s, I would be interested in anyones experience, but after trying the 100's one thing became apparent, for someone who likes to work the ball left to right (right hander) the 100 struggles. I've read reviews where the extra weight in the toe of the 100's helps that shot shape. I hate the idea of the extra 2 degrees, I'm plenty long and don't want any additional gaps - but the 100 series is by far, for me, the best look and feel I have found for what I like. Thanks for any advice (its a big commitment!)

I know it's silly but here we go anyway. I recently played a set of irons for 8 years then purchased new power irons. 7 iron has went from 150 to 179. Yes I know loft is stronger but the difference this has made to my confidence is unreal. Handicap has plumited going from 14 to 8. I have basically gained 2 clubs of difference. Hitting a 6i into a green instead of a hybrid has changed my game. Old clubs were also not custom fit my new ones are so this could also help.

He didn't seem to think that was important info to give me . I disagreed and did buy from him..

I have just started playing golf again after a 10 year + hiatus. My slightly rusted Macgregor M455's still go straight and high, when I hit them OK. My Nike SQ driver still sprays around all over the place like 10 years ago. I have seen no evidence that my game would improve at all by me getting stronger lofted new irons, or a new driver for that matter.......lessons seems like a far better investment.
On another note I practised low punchy hooky shot's, due to your recovery video today at the range.....really happy the way it went, not all perfect but went well on the whole. Cheers for the tips.

I was up at St Ives the other month, these were actually for players to hit specific launch/spin windows with different ball combos. It's no secret a shorter club is easier to strike properly off the ground, if you can get 6 iron distance with a 7 iron length shaft and flight it's an advantage. In my fitting the apex's and descent angle of the flights were the same as 1 club up but i hit the 100s straighter and more consistently.

Not sure it's just distance. I would say it has something to do with cost too. I got fit last year, intention was to buy T100. However, titleist charged extra for the shaft and grip I was fit into bringing total cost to $2100. Mizuno gave the shaft/grip for free bringing the total to $1400 with the off the rack sets similar in price.

  • @JustSleepin61
    @JustSleepin61 3 года назад

I bought T100S but had them delivered 1 degree weak. The reasonings I had with my fitter was to add bounce, rather than take it off which would happen by bending a T100 1 degree strong, plus it gave me the best numbers in terms of spin, descent angle. Distance, though always a consideration wasn't the be all or end all. I'm chuffed to bits with the irons, the flight is just great for me thoughout the set. So, I agree, it helps fitters having varied lofts with the same head. I've had split sets where the head shape changed and it bothered me. Nuts I know, but we golfers are a funny bunch.

  • @loucunny17
    @loucunny17 3 года назад

I think it’s for blending options to be honest. If you want T100 in the lower and T200 at the longer end then the lifts are almost too different to even bend to blend them together. So you have T100S to blend with T200, T300 etc and T100 that can blend with CB & MB

I've developed a fit for myself where I prefer to carry only 6 irons that spread the loft range from PW@47degrees to 5iron@24degrees - this allows me to add another hybrid - thus lofts (47,42,37,32,28,24)->(PW,9,8,7,6,5)->carries(133,146,159,172,185,197). I looked at blending the PW&9 of the T100 and the 8,7,6,5 of the T100S and bend where appropriate. I run out of speed at 24 degrees and prefer a 5 iron length shaft at 24 degrees (versus standard 4 iron) - I'm an old AP2 player and current Mizuno combo MMC & HMB player - 5HCP

Here’s the thing, Mark. The foresight algorithm over-rewards low spin driver shots. Your ball speed is like mine. We don’t have enough to actually fly it 285 in normal conditions. Plug in the numbers on the flightscope optimizer or Trackman numbers. Foresight over-rewards low spin shots when you get into the 2K range. It’s a problem with their algorithm; I know as a proud gc2 user.

Replacing my i200s and the Titleist fitting tool actually recommended T100. Took one look at the lofts and binned that recommendation (why would I spend a lot of money on new technology to get the same carry distance?). The T100S matches up with the i210 Power Spec and brings it closer to the other irons I am considering (e.g. 921 Forged) so I will try them out whereas I wouldn't even look at the T100. I think Titleist needed to fill a gap in their players-distance offer that T200 wasn't serving.

I often wonder why before you hit you take the club back about three feet breaking your wrists (wrist cock). However, when you actually take your swing, you have a one-piece takeaway (no wrist break) until much later in your swing. One would think that your pre-hit move would mimic your actual swing (one-piece takeaway), but it doesn't. Certainly does not affect your accuracy regardless.

I think that the AP2 lines, and the T100 line are probably the most popular. Now the old AP3 is another popular club and has some serious distance! So my theory is that those that like the 100 but wanted the AP3/t200 distances, Titleist decided to give us a popular club that is just a tick stronger for a tad more distance... Titleist do like to Tweak things constantly :)

All this ‘strong’ loft of clubs for me is pure vanity. On both the side of the player and the fitter. I have recently moved to Ping 410, each numbered club is ‘one’ more than my previous Yonex set from years ago. And yes they go further but all that’s happened is I’ve added another wedge below ‘P’ before 54 and 58 as the gapping has moved. But knowing distance per club is still what matter not which number goes how far.

    4,5,6 T200
    7,8,9,P,GW T100s
    54,60 SM9
Now I want noticeable controllable distance with my 3 iron
    I want forgiveness with my 4,5,6 at longer range 205m - 175m (T200)
I want workability with 7,8,9,P,G 165m - 115m (T100s) but I need the degrees to marry up with the rest of the clubs in the bag as the T100 and the T200 do have significant differences with the degrees

I bought these about two months ago as I’ve got a combo set of Ap3s &ap2s your right I bought them A because of the looks and B the lower flight and extra distance as I play on a course which is normally windy and they have done what I bought them for.
If it was just extra distance I wanted I could of bought so many irons much stronger in loft but not as nice looking in my honest opinion and I would lose the spin rate which is important in controlling my ball in various conditions.
So all in all I’m happy with my choice lots of different clubs for whatever your after at my age it’s about enjoyment but I still have that competitive edge which I doubt will ever go away🤔🤣

I think more fitting options isn't why they've brought this out, while I agree, more options the better. For me, Titleist have fell behind a bit with their previous business model of release every two years, so now they're bringing additional products out on the odd years to their main launch. Like TS2 and 3, then out comes the TS1 and 4. It makes business sense to release new products to catch people looking to change.

Compare the T200 lofts to the T100 lofts. They are a club difference. I have T200s and wanted to blend my bag with T100 7-PW but I could only do that if I carried two 7 irons. I personally didn't want to fumble around through my bag every round making sure I'm grabbing the right 7 iron.

I find that most amateur golfers typically find that distance means skill, when in reality distance just means a tougher time filling gaps in the shorter distance. I mean sure people can carry hybrids and 7 woods, but when an amateur is hitting his 6 iron 200 yards (due to loft rather than swing speed) it appeals to the players that struggle with distances. Definitely helps sales when you hit a 7 iron 180 vs 165😂

A common request for iron sets is to make them 2 degree strong, but as you explained it changes a lot about the club and it may no longer be ideal. I feel like producing this club is them just taking the most popular iron of this run and cranking it down ahead of time with making the appropriate adjustments. Its answering to market trends for the player who always says... "hey can you crank these down for me" and then goes out and plays a messed up club. In a way they are protecting the name by producing what the customer wants but more appropriately.

they needed to compete..... I was abuilder an people come see my home " what is the square footage ? " So in golf "how many yards does it go "
Cobra did this in the 90's, on the reduced loft, but the oversize club head was an iron answer to the "Callaway Big Bertha ".
Greg norman made about $100 mil with that formula

If they can’t make the club better then just make it longer by changing loft? Fine, then be upfront by putting the actual loft on the club like was done years ago.

Yep! Maybe we are all (golfers and manufacturers) just trying too hard to label what we think a 7 iron should be as a 7 iron. Does it matter what ‘number’ a club has stamped on it? IIRC Mark is carrying 2x 6 irons now, which just proves the definition of ‘a 6 iron’ is getting lost. Perhaps a move towards how wedges are stamped with actual degrees of loft is where we’re headed..?

@@thomaspopplewell3402 The vagueness of definition for numbered irons has similar benefits to vanity sizing in the fashion industry, I'd be surprised if we saw a change not influenced by their sales figures!

aKeckers1 Agreed, that does make sense. What’s interesting is it is only really a factor for irons, as most clubs at either end of the bag have lofts indicated somehow (wedges, hybrids, woods, drivers). Albeit there’s the adjustable nature of the distance clubs that distorts that slightly

I could see myself going T100, through T100s, then say T200 at the top.

Still play 716mb’s as grew up with proper blades. Tried the ap2’s but bit spinny for me however also tried 716cb’s to try out/ mix as combo set however eyes preferred the blade as what I feel confident/familiar looking down upon plus turf interaction. Regards distance, not too fussed as believe irons are scoring clubs and ego should be left behind, concentrate on your dispersion and consistent length? I’m definitely not longest though consistent from 180yrds in which for me is a 4 Iron. Hybrids, fairways plus driver for getting it within range to use irons. Whilst respect Titleist, chasing market share with this one but can’t blame them, otherwise will get left behind. At least more vokeys needed to fill bottom end of bag with all the gapping issues.....

Great video Mark. Not sure i am sold on the new irons, If i am honest i feel that two 7 irons going different distances is maybe going down the one length route. If we had fitters who were interested in doing fittings for individual clubs throughout the entire bag maybe i could appreciate the idea more after experiencing the fitting process. Until this idea becomes the norm then i think it will be just be a dream for most of us to have a completely custom fitted bag.Nice groupage by the way .

  • @jamesgibbs451

I think you're right about needing to consider fitting individual clubs. I love my mp60s but I know I could use a bit of help at the top end of the bag, however when I had a club fit ( the new Callaway bb21) the only club I could test was a 7. Given that I already hit my traditionally lofted 7 iron 140 yards I'm not sure I actually learned anything useful other than I could use an 8 instead.

  • @virtuocitygowf7272

My view is that there’s a huge market of golfers who walk into big chain stores for new irons, pick out a range of 7 irons that they like the look of and go and test them on an attached range or launch monitor. Distance and dispersion will be the primary consideration, often in that order. Truth is, the original Titleist wouldn’t stand a chance against TM, Callaway et al offerings when distance is (for many) the selling point. Alas, here’s a ‘new’ model of the same club with cranked lofts.

You may be right that the ‘future’ is being fitted for individual clubs to blend them into a properly gapped set but everyday golfers are a very long way from that and I can’t see it ever happening. I have almost always only been offered a 7 iron to test and that’s not exactly being fitted.

I have the t100s irons, when fitted tried a number of iron, shafts models etc, it did bother me what the numbers on the bottom says, for me it was about feel, dispersion, and launch. I have had clubs bent strong, weaker, etc. These give me closer gapping throughout. Hence why I chose these.

100S... as in the same thing as the 100, just stronger. Maybe something for the player who has slightly less speed, but wants to game the look???
I like the point of fitting per club. I definitely find it to be true with wedges, drivers, woods, putters... why NOT every club? I remember Ben Hogan used to let you order clubs individually by loft... but, that didn't really work for their business model.

    • @jconusn

If you look closer...they redesigned the head, moved the tungsten around, and redesigned the sole to accommodate the stronger lofts. My speed is 94mph with a 7 iron and I spin "traditional lofted" clubs into the stratosphere and the fall directly straight down, so your theory of "slightly less speed" is inaccurate.

Ive never been fit and have no desire to go hit a 7 iron only. If/when I get iron fit, I want to mix my irons and blend them. I'm comfortable with my semi bladey irons and actually hit the 4 and 5 pretty well but slight miss hits are punished. Wouldn't mind some added help even 4-6i. Just seems to be iron fittings are hit 5 or 6 7i and pick from that for all 7 clubs with same lie settings. seems like a poor way to do it.
More people would probably get fit if it felt more like a fitting.

From what I have seen , like on TXG, T100S has different loft and different weighting with the tungsten. More tungsten in the toe of the club.
Notice that all your T100S shots were a little right? And all your T100 shots were all left of the pin? Weighting brah.

It is probably just because people only pay attention to the number on the bottom rather than the loft.
I personally wouldn't ever want to game a 19 degree 3 iron. And I think most be'ah players would opt for the more traditional t100 lofts. If you look at a lot of the forged MBs or CBs. They typically play 21,24,27,30,34,38,42,46/47 or really close to that. MP20, Z785, 620 Titlist, X-Forged 1 degree weak. Apex MB, P7MC etc...
So the S is for people that want a nice looking club that goes a little farther, and the regular ones are for people that want traditional lofts with a little bit of extra help without being ridiculously chunky monkey.
    My two cents.

I was fitted the Callaway CF 16 irons some years back. They have similar lofts as the T100S. Was wondering if I could game these as a replacement. I know perhaps stronger lofts are 'cheating' in a sense. But with my Apex irons I hit them relatively far but rather high and they come down steep and stop quickly on the greens. I hit my 7 iron 170m (186y) with great stopping power. These T100s look tempting.

I thought the s model was for players with less speed and an attack angle that's more upwards, but want to play an iron with a thin top line and narrow sole. Players with less speed and a more upwards attack angle need stronger lofts as they add loft at impact, nothing to do with boasting you can hit a 7 iron further in my opinion
