If you’re after full-size Laney firepower with pedalboard portability, then we just might have the solution: Laney’s Foundry series Ironheart Loudpedal. Armed with two channels, an independent boost circuit, and 60 watts of diverse tone crafting, this power amp pedal is outfitted with versatile DI and cab emulation tools to serve up a ferocious array of sonic possibilities. But how does it compare to Laney’s Ironheart IRT120H 120-watt tube head? Does a power amp pedal with half the wattage stack up? James Laney and Lee Wrathe stopped by Sweetwater to put their Loudpedal to the test. Check it out!

I bought a Loudpedal at launch. Tone wise it’s fantastic. But there are two issues with it. First the power input is very wobbly and is not likely to stand up to touring use. Secondly the effects loop is poor, it lacks a return level so you’re dumping your effects into the full 60 watts - which makes it super noisy and often full of hum. Some looper pedals won’t work with the loop at all because they can’t run the volume low enough.

I have the loudpedal too and agree with the power jack being loose. Effects loops wise I find mine to be really good! I have a looper, delay , reverb and noise suppressor in there with no issues ? Maybe a dud - too late to get a replacement ?

@@omegasunnit's going to depend on your FX. Putting a Zoom CDR in the loop of mine is fine. Some effects work ok, some not, due to levels. I have experimented using a JHS Black Box as a master volume in the loop and that helps a lot. It's not faulty, it's just doing what many amps do - not having a MV after the loop.

I think I might have to get myself a new Laney. My first ever amp was a Laney HCR60r, a 60w solid state combo. That thing was a tank! It was an absolute workhorse of an amp, and a great pedal platform. I got it about 20 years ago and it still works....mostly, but it was gigged to death, battered and then neglected in a shed for years. The fact one of the 2 channels still works is a testament to the build quality of Laney, even in their affordable range of amps. I've played through a range of amps and currently use a Marshall, so i'm tempted to try out Laney again, for old times sake!

I bought a Laney (LC-50 ) combo 30 years ago for a band that I was in at the time for a few years playing a Gibson SG..
I put in a Celestion 12” G12T-75 in place of the stock HH speaker, but aside from tube changes, the Laney combo has been a great amp.
Clean channel and master volume drive channel, but I was using the drive channel mostly with moderate to low amounts of drive depending on the tubes and the desired amount of drive.

When turning to valve amps, one of my main options was the IRT-15 Studio. Ended up buying a Peavey Valveking MK II Combo, that i thought sounded pretty good (better than my ex Marshall MG100).
I got the Loudpedal two days ago... I'm re-converted to solid state😂

That amp has too many bells and whistles and looks like it weighs a ton. I’m glad they made the pedal. I picked one up myself not long after it came out and I LOVE IT.

I’m super pumped about the loud pedal as a grab and go solution to not have to lug my IRT60 head! But my dudes, those high gain tones do not do these amps justice 😩

I have one. I would really like the loop to be in a better place. Its ro close to the output or if you put say a verb un the loop its gonna be in the way of something. Im in fact waiting on longer cables for a board. I like it enough to buy stuff to make it work. Im pretty much putting it on a board with chorus reverb n delay to be a simple grab n go thing

The first Laney product I bought was an lc15 that blew up its transformer, my experience of using Laney since then has generally been pretty poor on the build quality/reliability front… I hope the lionheart and ironheart amps are better.

So it s not really a 120w head verses at 60w peddle if the head is set to 15w . It's a 15w head verses a 60w peddle.
