This is very, very nicely played. As a former professional bassoonist, I can say it's uncommon to hear this level of lyricism and musicality on the bassoon. I put money on it he listens to a lot of vocal music.

As a cello player I have always appreciated the sound of the bassoon. It has that same sweet tenor clef resonance, it's like the wind instrument version of the cello. Few composers can showcase the ability of the bassoon to produce some of the most lovely sounds on Earth quite like Mozart. Love it!

This bassoonist is amazing!! I had the 3rd movement as my bridesmaids/groomsmen processional at my wedding, October 28, 1993 at St. Anthony's Church in Streator, Illinois. Sadly, the bassoonist could not make it as his father was admitted to the hospital that morning. But, our organist, Jean Drendel, played it very well! I had to order it from a publisher in Germany and it took from July to October for us to receive it. It was very worth it! I have never suggested it to be played at any other wedding since....it's a special memory for us!

I hate to break it to you, but I am a 14 yr old bassoonist and I can promise you and your son that there are many hours of long tedious work. What is even more annoying is that unless you have serious connections with people in the music industry your son will not get the chance to play publicly for a while. Otherwise I encourage your son with my utmost support, the bassoon has brought me so much happiness in the three years that I have played it.

You should consider it in the context of his work in bringing the conical woodwinds together with the cylindrical (clarinettes) to achieve the fullness of sound all through the entire register.Had a bloody problem bringing the bitch to sister in law into the fold. The human voice is so individual, that it often clashes with the instruments.

This is wonderful; thank you for the upload. I recently completed a piece for Bassoon and Violoncello with MuseScore; great program: those that like Bassoon and the occasional Cello please give it a listen... and maybe even a like:)

i’m interested in playing the bassoon as a violinist and bass guitarist, i’m 14, will i find it exceptionally difficult?

@@cassidywalcott6102 I started bassoon when I was around 12 (I am now 17), and I think it is just like any other instrument. It is not exceptionally hard to learn, you just have to put in the time and effort.

Wonderful! Great soloist. A joyfull player. One of the best Mozart playing on non period-like instruments. Compliments to the conductor for his phrasing and musicality.

The world needs bassoon players from everywhere.
Especially from the countries whose leaders seem to be proud of the fact of no reading books.

Beautiful playing! I am appalled at the way your bassoon bends to your will! I am a clarinet player but because of the inspiration I have received by the hands of this virtuoso I have made one of my life goals to play the bassoon!

This young man happens to create beautiful sounds from his bassoon. Not only can he produce lovely tones, but he is very, very adept ! He is playing with a lot of expression and creativity. BRAVO Mr. Voltan! I did once try very hard to produce sounds like this! Believe it it is not an easy instrument to master!!! And this young has done it IMHO! Thank you so much!
