As of June 2023 I am no longer sure this information is correct - Due to chapter 11 bankruptcy with United Furniture Lanes parent company they might not be sending out child safety locks. Personally I have 2 chests I am waiting on replacement locks one has been on order 6 weeks the other 2 weeks. I will update this comment If/when I receive those.
Good luck. Been in contact with them many times. They have been telling me that mine is on it's way for 2 and a half years. They're obviously not the greatest at customer service.
I know your response was a year ago but I was wondering if you had any luck finding a replacement lock. I contacted Lane website more than a year ago and it's sad that they leave a site up that tells you they will send a new lock and then never follows through.
Thank you - after Ria redid this chest a few weeks ago and we learned about the lock recall we both felt it was important to do a video on the lock replacement. Very easy to do and ill be happy if just one person does it these chests are heirlooms and will be around for a long time.
Thanks for the tip about the hinges! I just inherited one of these chests from my grandmother and I've let it slam on accident a few times now. Going to order a replacement lock from a third party I've found online and probably get those soft close hinges!
Thank you so very much for this very useful information! I have a 1978-79 Lane cedar chest and lost the keys long ago…now with 5 grandchildren….time to change the lock! Love your channel…always learn so much…thank you for sharing 😊kim
Good move removing the strike place in the meantime. I don't know if you got a response from your email when i did the online form i got an email saying it was being processed. All in all it was about 4 weeks maybe slightly less for it to arrive. If they have not responded to your email it might be worth checking out the form at: lanefurniture.com/page/product-safety
Loving it Alex!!! & Ria!!! Thank y’all for this tutorial!! I have an Art Deco “Cavalier” and would love a new key lock system. At one point, I thought about drilling holes in back-for breathing just in case!! For my grandson, Damari, when he was a small. Just turned 7 yrs old & still can’t open!!! Plus he knows better. Top is heavy. Love this!!!!❤️💫❤️
Thanks Cathy - i wish i knew of a similar lock system you might could use on your Cavalier chest. Drilling air holes quite a step and perhaps not a bad idea. I think the fact you and your grandson are aware it could be a problem is what really matters. I think a lot of people just dont know or have ever thought about it.
Dang it, just picked one of their chests built in 1947 from a resale shop, hopefully some company takes over the replacement process. Only found out about the need to replace the lock due to the one key getting bent.
Being such an iconic brand I hope it will be back in business soon. For now what I am doing leaving the lock in place but removing the catch part. Its not ideal but at least it cant lock and does not leave the large hole. When/if the replacement locks come out I will go though and reply to all comments with that information.
I currently need a lock for my lane chest I bought. I is the current lock described in the video. Where or how do I get a lock for the safety of my home? Thanks
Hi l'm so glad l found this! I just bought an old Lane Hope chest, and it has a very strange lock that has a small "post" sticking out of the lock,. I can't figure out how it opens..(l know it does because the owner got it open)..l've tried pushing it in, moving it up and down but no go. Would love to send you a picture is that possible? Thanks!
Sadly I think this is out of date now. Lanes parent company United Furniture went bankrupt and I don't believe there is anyone left to send out the free replacement locks. I am currently waiting on 2 my self. They might turn up one day but I am really not sure I will get them. Lane is such a well known name I am sure someone will buy the brand and with it the recall responsibility.
The only company I know of that currently sells a lock that works is Rockler "Surface Mounted Cedar Chest Lock and Latch" I have not used one personally but several reviews say they work with Lane. I have seen a few on Ebay/Etsy but need to be sure they are the safety lock.
I am locked out of mine. It was passed down from my grandfather and I was unaware it only had keys. It had never locked before and now I am unable to open it. Any advice on where to get a replacement key and then new child safety lock?
You can find the replacement keys on Amazon - Its my understanding there are only a couple of different master keys. If you find the serial number on the bottom of the chest it should point you to the correct key. For a new lock your best bet right now would be Etsy or Ebay until someone purchases United furniture thats the only choice or remove the lock altogether in the mean time.
Received the replacement lock from Lane, however my chest is locked and won't open (origi al lock) and no key. Should I try drilling the old lock to get it open?

@@chrislamrock5952I too have been waiting years for lock but they are for sale online. Worth the price if it saves a child’s life.
Do you know if there is someplace where something similar can be purchased? At this point, I'd be willing to just pay for it.
@@georgeandy6923 Walmart and Amazon both charge about 30 dollars for one.

Great tutorial Alex. Thank you for doing this. You just may have prevented a tragedy.💜💜💜

Thank you for this video, looks like a very easy job and I love your idea of the safety hinges. Now if I can only get my hands on a replacement lock.

Very glad to put this video out its important and only takes a few minutes. Hope your replacement arrives quickly.
Amazing and Extremely important video ..thank you for taking the time and spreading the awareness..y'all are the best ❣️
Glad to do it Lane estimate as many as 6 million chests still need this upgrade hope some of them find this video.
So glad that you got your new lock! I emailed for one about 3 months ago and I am still waiting. I removed old strike plate in the meantime.

I too am in need of a lock for my chest fro 1959. Has anyone found a aftermarket lock to purchase?
Link to lane does not work

Can’t get these locks any longer.
