This song was originally a double meaning. Shorter was stating that both jazz and black ppl were endangered species.. Esperanza wrote lyrics primarily on blacks being endangered species. If you listen to the lyrics though they are said very complex and fast, she talks about racisim, inequality and the historical tension between blacks and whites in this country. It's very thought provoking and touchy to say the least. It shows her balls! She did that in front of a predominantly white older crowd at that. Kudos!
Esperanza is Jaco, just in a new package, new techniques, and in another new world. She brought something new to the bass-playing and singing. Breaking new borders; just like Wayne, Jaco and Joe. The fact that she shared those beautiful words to Wayne, includes Wayne, Joe and Jaco at the same time; even though she didn't mention them. But some of us know. What a wonderful performance
@@herrfriberger5 I know. This chart is looking at me right now. But also who cares? Wayne Shorter doesn't play through this and sing across a four octave range at the same time. I'm more impressed with this than any performance of this tune that Wayne's ever done. Also Wayne Shorter is a weird grump, so idgaf.
One day she’ll be the one sitting down at the table at the Polar Music Prize while other musicians honor her.
Amazing performance by one of the best jazzist, singer and bass player in the world! Bravo!
Wayne and Sting super approves. She's official. I can't tell you have many times I've listened to this performance. Sick!!

I think it's the first time in history of music that we focus on the bass player during a guitar solo 4:05
It's already a very complex arrangement to play on bass, then, she does that on a fretless, AND if that's not enough, she also sings

I think Mr. Wayne Shorter was crying out of joy. 🤗
Wow, first time hearing her....and wow, GOD blessed this talented angelic voice.
Sometimes I think Esperanza just performs these complex arrangements to make sure other musicians know how much worse we are compared to her.
Well, the arrangement (and the tune) is pretty much Wayne Shorters. She wrote the lyrics though.
and with a fretless bass

To ho conosciuto da poco, e sono felice di averti incontrata. Fantastica!
Sting lost his mind. That's his instrument. He loves Wayne Shorter and Esperanza. Wayne loved it. She's no joke! This is smokin'!!
EXtraordinary!! Thank you!💜
I mean... fuck. That is some artistry and talent right there. Some people seem almost supernatural in their abilities.
Transcendental genius from another planet
Bloody, wow. She's amazing. It feels a little like a combination of Prince meets Frank Zappa's Black Page.
🇧🇷
Esperanza não é desse mundo! Canta e toca absurdamente muuuuuuitooooo
I really shouldn't comment here out of fear of defiling this perfection.

Not the same as the Austin city limits performance.
I couldn't make out 10 words? and nothing made any sense? Is this the future of music?
Time to get hearing aids pal.
I believe she made a comment about the words. I thought this was amazing.
