I'm learning about this now, and it is just horrible to see what we have done. I am an American, and this is just my opinion. The Irish were just fighting for what they believed in and they didn't do anything wrong. Thank goodness everything is solved out now (i hope so) with Ireland, Mexico, and the U.S, but I don't want anything to happen again. Respect is key nowadays.
A sad reality of the situation is that, according to American comments, they don't teach about this savage and unjust pillaging of Mexico in schools. Some wounds never close, but I understand the view of the people is not the same as that of the government.
This video has me conflicted. As an American I normally have a low opinion of defectors, but as a Catholic I can understand the reason why these Irish Refugees would feel justified by defecting to Mexico. Especially considering how both the Anglican British Empire and the (mostly) Protestant United States discriminated against Catholics and Irishmen with utter cruelty. I will say that thee Irishmen fighting for Mexico are more sympathetic than the ones who fought for The Confederacy. And you did a good job drawing the uniforms.
Mexico was “the good one” in all the points, the Mexicans let all the Americans stay in their lands with just 3 conditions, 1-respect the law of the country you are in (something that the Americans say to every Mexican migrant now), 2- We don’t have any slaves here and 3- Respect Catholicism, the Americans didn’t do any of them and instead decided to declare the independence of a state they weren’t even native and call all the Americans to a war against a country that was finally starting to improve after more than 10 years of war to make them star another 10 years more of war
@@UwU-xk5cx the government that Texas rebelled against wasn't the legitimate Mexican government, it was a dictatorship led by Santa Anna that had already put down a rebellion in Mexico. And let's not forget that the Mexican-American war started when Mexican soldiers crossed the Rio Grande and ambushed an American scouting party and then subsequently began an artillery bombardment of fort Texas. Last but not least most other major nations at the time when the conflict started thought Mexico was going to win, they weren't some poor helpless country.
The 13th Hussar Santa Anna was in all means a horrible dictator but sadly it was the legitimate Mexican government and I don’t support the actions of the Mexican government against the revolts of the republic of Yucatán and the republic of Rio Grande, but Texas was another history the land wasn’t even theirs, the true Mexican natives became a minority when the Dixies started to come (because that was the main problem, the people who cross the border wasn’t the big American capitalist that came here to expand it’s industry and benefit both the Mexicans and the Americans, the people who started to come were just slavers and white supremacists that came here to use our lands as they wanted), and even if the Europeans thought that Mexico would win, both the Mexicans and the Americans were pretty sure who was going to win, mexico was fighting 3 independence wars and 2 revolts, it had no control of all the north territories, the government of Santa Anna was an irremediable mess and the most part of the states hated the centralist republic and wanted a federalist republic, and let’s not forget that Mexico had fought 2 civil wars and a French invasion just before that, the US was pretty sure what would happen at the end, and the war was gonna come at any time it was just obvious for the Mexicans so if they weren’t gonna strike at last at least they were gonna strike first. The US could say that they were protecting their citizens but if the citizens wanted protection they could cross the border to the country they were originally from, and then when the Yankees won the war for theirs they didn’t even thought about it before raising again to protect what was “theirs” under the confederate flag, I’m not saying that the Americans were the bad guys, I’m saying that the Americans did the wrong thing, supporting slavers and white supremacists in hope to appease them was just the wrong choice, yes they maybe had a better life with the Americans but if they wanted that so much why did they came to Mexico in the first time?
@@UwU-xk5cx I don't know how you can say that the Texas revolution was led by white supremacists when a large amount of Mexicans fought with the Texans. And Americans came to Texas because Mexico gave them land grants. but back to Santa Anna, a government derives it's authority from the people so when it no longer has that support and must instead force it's will upon the people through violence it becomes illegitimate.
The 13th Hussar They revolted against an imperialist force that saw them as less than human beings and then violated military law to give them as painful and slow an execution as they could.

@@makutas-v261no, it is just that you guys are misrepresenting the history in an attempt to paint America and White Europeans as bad.
@@hyperboreanmakima Maybe you just want to think of USA as a better country in history that actually is
This video has me conflicted.
And you did a good job drawing the uniforms.
zero conflict.

Actually they did. they signed up with the American army and then defected to Mexico, it's called treason.

@@daemperor2369 perhaps but they still betrayed their adopted nation, they knew the risks and consequences.

St. Patricks Day was originally to celebrate the patron saint of Ireland for bringing christianity to Ireland and now it's just an excuse for a piss up.

In 1997, President of Mexico Ernesto Zedillo commemorated the 150th anniversary of the execution of the San Patricios at a ceremony in Mexico City's San Jacinto Plaza. This is where the U.S. Army conducted the first 16 hangings after the men were convicted of desertion at court martial. Ireland and Mexico jointly issued commemorative postage stamps to mark the anniversary.
