Though i didn't comment when this first uploaded, I gotta say now that this is my childhood! Been watching this on and off since January 2012! This along with your Cumberland's Crew vid is what got me into the American Civil War in full force along with the Gettysburg film. THANKS SO MUCH for touching my life with this original AMV Lord Drako!
What some people can't understand is that the United States can not stop war. We try to do what we can but it isn't enough. Now maybe if other people would help us in our PEACEFUL endeavors we could almost stamp out war. Yes, we could stop war, but for about 5 minutes max. Conflict is an essential part of human nature and can not be stopped. But what my country wants to stop the most is civil war. Whole bloodlines ended during the U.S civil war and we try our best to stop it.
this is what shit was like back then you could loose your brother or son or dad right next to you. hard to think about what life would be like after that
what a load of trite garbage. Many young guys have gone to war enticed by glorious propaganda only to find the reality of war is far different from the nonsense they were told by fallacious orators like yourself. When war is in self defence the fault always lays on the shoulders of the antagonist
@@lazyishardwork you have a point about how so many people get tricked into war, and though I think you are being a little harsh on that guy I do respect what you are saying, though you need to remember that many a time in history the diffender did just as bad if not worse crimes then the attacker. The two best examples would be the Soviet army going through Germany looting so much that Stalin himself sent orders telling them to stop, and rapeing over two million woman in 1945 alone and the Germanic trides of the Rhine basen Massacre of thousands of Romans captives as sacrifices to their God's in thanks for there victory over the invading Romans. And look I hate both the Romans and the Nazis, being a Jew there should be no question as to why, yet I think that in war all men stop fighting for some idea like freedom or justice and instead fight for the man next to him, and will do anything to insure his and their survival. War is a tragedy that mankind continue 's to make because for some reason we as a species love it. Though to be honest I like to think that we are getting better with each generation, and though we will never live to see it I do think that we will some day see a humanity that will turn their swords into plow sheers, but it sadly will not be this day.
@Oreobush Since the secession was legal there could be no treason. Not one man was tried for treason after the war because Lincoln's refusal to allow us to peacefully secede was itself, an illegal act. Every Southerner killed by a Northern soldier was, by law, an act of murder. Doesn't real history suck?

The song was hugely moving, not least when we remember that like most other southern soldiers, this father and son probably did not own slaves, but were the dupes of an evil minority who did. In some ways not unlike the poor Tommies and Landsers and Poilus of 1914. Plus ca change...
That in not way diminishes the service of those men, their bravery and moral defense of their homes. Not for the Confederate soldier, nor for the Union soldiers from Pennsylvania when invaded in 1862 and 63. Nor for that matter for the French and Belgians in 1914, the Brits who fought with them or even the German and Austrian soldiers who fought them.
Colin McDonald The Civil War wasn't fought over slavery. It was over states rights. The South wanted state rights that the government wouldn't give them, so they threatened to secede. Then the Civil War arose under the smoke and propaganda of freeing the slaves.
Tis true. William Johnston. After a defeat at the hands of the confederacy, many Yankees dropped their weapons to lighten their load. William, however, refused to lay down his drum and returned with it still on his side.
This is Touching, because my Father fought in Afghanistan, and i wish i could have been there with him, cause it haunts him still today, even if he hides it.
As far as I understood the constitution, it is more like Germany. Bavaria is a state within the federal republic, and retains a number of sovereign rights on which the federal government may not impede, but relinquished several rights to said government and is bound by the the choices made in that matter by the legislative and executive organs of the federal republic.
That's what federalism means; some powers, such as the right to legalize prostitution are given to states. Of course, as certain reforms gain ground and more states or regions pass certain laws (examples: women's suffrage and gay marriage), they get into the national spotlight and Washington wakes up to change. At least in the U.S. anyway. Some states now have passed their own paid leave laws based on state taxes (rather than using money from pensions, as Republicans suggest. One step at a time!)

Dear God, we teach children to look forward to dying far from home and parents to bury their sons cut down in their prime for evil, greedy old men. How can we be such monsters?
Brought tears to my eyes, thanks for that! Nice artwork and great song! This son of the South and descendant of a fallen Confederate soldier salutes you!
Beautiful and sad. This is exactly why those of us who honor our Confederate ancestry will never forget. Those honor dead of Dixie were all someone's sons and husbands, brothers and fathers.
Let us remember both southern boy and northern boy stood beside one enough, and though one wore blue and the other wore gray both shared in the hardships of battle and both fought in the end not for cause beyond the scope of the common man but the fellow that stood next to him in the battle line. That shared his tent and shared also in the hardships. May God grant us the wisdom and the courage never to never fight brother to brother again. For the cost is too dear.
TV-94 you're very right but our early ancestors mixed with scottish and irish significant others but we still call y'all kin though bc we have alot of english influence in our culture,my surname is very english and is common in yorkshire but my ancestors mixed with alot of irish mates but even then y'all have giving us alot in the south, much love from georgia, you're always welcome in my state brother..
North Korea and South Korea are separate countries the same way that the Union and the Confederacy were "separate countries". People still call that a civil war, in that it was between two halves of a nation, depending on who you ask. Now, what do you think N and S Korea started fighting about? It WAS one country, now it's two because neither side ever won the fight. I'd say that could be considered a Civil War; they're all Koreans after all.
Whilst I thought the Barbara Ellen song so sentimental as to be hilarious (no criticism intended, I'm just a heartless git), this song really is quite sad. Great artwork in all your vids as well
@gmoney1800 he was in the line of fire. Such was the sad fate of many due to Napoleonic tactics combined with (at the time) modern firearms. "If the people raise a great howl against my barbarity and cruelty, I will answer that war is war, and not popularity seeking." William Tecumseh Sherman
" For my Daddy is a mountain He is more than just a man And of all the gifts he gave me He taught me how to do whats right..." Whatever your political beliefs, these are amazing lyrics, and if my son says this about me, I will be a proud man.

@OSalperry True but those wars where European War's. The European's have always dipped a little too much into the sweet wine of war. The Blue Prints for the first Word War can be seen in the aftermath of the Franco-Prussian War. Yes, I know the things that my country has done in war. First, i never mentioned perfect weapons or destruction of government properties. The destruction of things happen in war, it is called collateral damage.Second, the countries we have men stationed in are on the terms of the country, which by the way most countries they are in the governments asked us to station them there.Third, no, we can not compensate for the loss of a loved one. Finally, give me a reason to fight an ...
not really, it's pathetic. What kind of father, who truly embodies the personal traits this song suggests, would bring their own child into a area of violent conflict such as a battle? The father in this song was a complete underserving dickhead
The reality of the situation actually occurred many times throughout the civil war. And it was quite common for fathers and sons to go to war. In certain areas, different family members joined different sides of the war only to see each other in battle. Both sides only anticipated the war would go on for about a week. What makes the song sad is the harsh reality the war had.
Nyet, just ask the rebels at Fort Pillow. And... those fighting to defend Article 1 Section 9 Clauses (1), (2), and (4) of the CSA constitution. No slave power accepted, sorry.
Sara Maru Fort Pillow was an accident, a couple hundred illiterate farm boys went in there in all that smoke and confusion ; a lot of them had probably never heard of a white flag before . Hell some of the yanks were still shooting and only some of them were trying to surrender. Forest himself wasn’t even in the fort , he was supervising artillery when it started and as soon as he realized what was happening he told his men to stop . Willam Sherman was given orders to investigate Fort Pillow and when he finished Forest was exonerated.
well you need to look at the technology back then he might of been hit by a stray bullet or the yankee was aiming at someone else but missed i understand where your coming from but it's not always like that and by the way no offense to the southern soldier but who would bring a child into a war like that drummer boy or not war is dangerous
People would actively try and shoot Drummers in those times, on all sides of the war. Same with Bugles. The reason is that the Drums were how the various different formations communicated. Kill the musicians, and you kill the ability for a formation to communicate. They were not just there to tap a marching cadence, they signaled orders and communication to the whole field. They were often the first ones shot.
Muttface McDerp Your right ; however it was often considered very bad form. Still it’s very likely that people did ; once you been at war that long and seen two or three battles the thought of maybe “accidentally “hitting a musician may not seem too morally reprehensible.
he was a drummer boy the union had drummer boys at that age as well though i do not think it was smart it was a different day and age it's done and over with now
Quite true, John. It was understood (and complied with) by both sides that the drummer boys were not to be purposefully harmed, but there is so much confusion in a battle and armament flying around that tragedies like this were inevitable.
They did not have much choice to send those boys to war all of the older men and boys would have been carrying guns into the war so they would have only been able to get younger boys to be the drummer.
North and South Korea are separate countries, that's not a civil war. Nor was the inter-clan fighting in Scotland civil war, it' was more like gang war than anything else
There are examples of union boys kicking ass as well. I think and if someone would correct me there was a boy who lost his arm but earned the medal of honor.
the american union, when it started, was more like the european union, just an agreement to help people with trading etc. but, like the EU, the federal government slowly took more and more power from the state governments. according to their constitution each state retains all rights to have their own laws (which is why in some states prostitution or some drugs are legal). each state also has the right to leave the union at will, which was denied to the south
I just reread my comment to see where I said anyone else they accuse of war crimes is innocent. I'not not seeing it.. care to point it out? I was amused by the hypocrisy of a German bitching about another country committing war crimes during WWII.. well that and the way his post backs up the stereotype about Germans liking to point out other's faults while ignoring their own..
This reversal of "normal" plot is just so sad. But also so strangely beautiful.
It illustrates how live changes and how fragile human life actually is
(Dreadful late I know)
"In times of peace, Sons bury their Fathers.

Oh the bonds between a father and son. This was beautifully arranged
yeah, you'd think so
reminds me of when i used to reenact the civil war with the 24th virginia and the 83rd pennsylvania units
to forget history is to insure that it repeats itself
Whoa I cried a little at this, I really did.
no other song can reduce me to tears as fast as this, maybe dance with my father by Kellie Coffey but it's close either way

Every war is an obscenity, but they are occasionally necessary to prevent or stop something worse.
this is what shit was like back then you could loose your brother or son or dad right next to you. hard to think about what life would be like after that
And what's worse is you could end up facing your brother, son or father on opposite sides of a musket line.
i know how thoses poeple fell i have lost my grandpa my sister my cousin and my other cousin
It be a sad world without the kin, and I wouldn’t wish to bear it without them.
Makes me tear up everytime.
It was so sad and beautiful, it nearly made me cry.
Nearly!? It made me ball my eyes out!
Anyone else have a tear in the eye because of this
just a tear? bloody Niagara Falls here.
kilroy8989 Me.
Yep
Better to ask if there is anyone who doesn't.
*cries* You really do have a gift to move people's hearts.

Daddy take me with you, I don't want to stay behind
I will walk so close beside you, while you march along in line
I will help you with your knapsack, I can comfort you at night
Oh daddy take me with you, won't you let me stand and fight
I will beat the drum you gave me, in the winter of last year
I will pound the battle cadence, it will thunder in your ear.
I will march from dawn's first daylight, till the sun goes down at night
Oh daddy take me with you, won't you let me stand and fight
And as long as I remember, he was there to hold my hand
For my daddy is a mountain, he is more than just a man
And of all the gifts he gave me, he taught how to do what's right
Oh daddy take me with you, won't you let me stand and fight
Well, daddy, it's not over, we have walked this path before
We have faced the roaring thunder, and we've braved the cannon roar
Though our brothers fall around us, we will see the mornings light
Oh daddy's so courageous, God let us stand and fight
Oh, daddy I can't see you, though I feel you by my side
Though your voice is just an echo, from the mist beyond my eyes
I can bear to leave you, daddy, for I know we did what's right
Oh, daddy took me with him, aside, aside to stand and fight.
And as long as I remember, he was there to hold my hand
For my daddy is a mountain, he is more than just a man
And of all the gifts he gave me, he taught how to do what's right
Oh, daddy took me with him, aside, aside to stand and fight.

excellent
War isn't hell. War is War amd hell is hell. In hell, the guilty suffer. In War, the innocent suffer the most. (MASH)
Yeah that would be great and all except for people like robotminone who don't even know what the South is like now

There are no true "good guys" in any war.
Think you can do "Was My Brother in the Battle"?
Are Cunla and Cuchulain from a anime/manga or did LordDrakoArakis make them up?
Never thought I would be pissed at Union soldiers...
There are no truly "good guys" in war; some are just worse than the others.
And besides, both sides did the same thing. Even in other wars, it's a common thing
belt up you twit, it's the way the dupes who did the cartoons drew them. Can't you think?

Yes, I know the things that my country has done in war. First, i never mentioned perfect weapons or destruction of government properties. The destruction of things happen in war, it is called collateral damage.Second, the countries we have men stationed in are on the terms of the country, which by the way most countries they are in the governments asked us to station them there.Third, no, we can not compensate for the loss of a loved one. Finally, give me a reason to fight an ...
both sides had losses most bloody war America has ever had
Of course, disease killed more soldiers during that War than bullets did.

thats one of the saddest songs ive ever heard
not really, it's pathetic.
Sorry for jumping in between topics and any grammatical errors, so grammer police just give me a ticket please.
Sad song
Okay, but a only a Reb would charge into the line of a Gatling gun, BEEYOTCH
TheMadGunther Only Yankees would try and march up hill against a fortified Stonewall , BEEYOTCH.
well you need to look at the technology back then he might of been hit by a stray bullet or the yankee was aiming at someone else but missed i understand where your coming from but it's not always like that and by the way no offense to the southern soldier but who would bring a child into a war like that drummer boy or not war is dangerous
They did not have much choice to send those boys to war all of the older men and boys would have been carrying guns into the war so they would have only been able to get younger boys to be the drummer.
even though they barely had anything to fight with
The South is the sacred land of the United States, blessed by the Hand of God. All hail the glorious South!
@gmoney1800 Yep, take our the drummers and buglers you take away an armies ability to communicate above the battles roar.
North and South Korea are separate countries, that's not a civil war. Nor was the inter-clan fighting in Scotland civil war, it' was more like gang war than anything else
@gmoney1800 He got caught in a volley, while marching in the front of the battleline. More of bad luck an anything else.
lol yeah.. his father's not at all to blame for taking him into a combat zone in the first place.
i would die if you did Tom Dula lol
its not the South that need saving
so the union was more advanced in weaponry if the south had Gatlings to the Unions drummer boys would of died like that to sadly
It's hilarious to see a German accusing anyone else of warcrimes in WWII . LMAO
futility of war
true but most didn't
but only a Reb would would have a boy on the FRONT lines
Yanks and Rebs had boys fighting on the front
There are examples of union boys kicking ass as well. I think and if someone would correct me there was a boy who lost his arm but earned the medal of honor.
@@zhontac6194 but, to be fair, that kid was an awesome runaway- he hid his real age. Some of the Confederate boys where know to be , say, 4.
is it just me or does that child look 5 years old?
Well the youngest musician in the civil war was 8 years old
the american union, when it started, was more like the european union, just an agreement to help people with trading etc. but, like the EU, the federal government slowly took more and more power from the state governments. according to their constitution each state retains all rights to have their own laws (which is why in some states prostitution or some drugs are legal). each state also has the right to leave the union at will, which was denied to the south
they took the rights from the southern states because they were constituted by arseholes who treated people like cattle
Only a Reb would have little n the front lines
TheMadGunther Jonnhy Shilo ?
I just reread my comment to see where I said anyone else they accuse of war crimes is innocent. I'not not seeing it.. care to point it out? I was amused by the hypocrisy of a German bitching about another country committing war crimes during WWII.. well that and the way his post backs up the stereotype about Germans liking to point out other's faults while ignoring their own..
