- Here is another sea shanty that I found really good. Once again, I combined the shanty with the anime genre. I hope you like it. Comments are always appreciated.
Note and Warning:
Any burning or negative comments on this clip, however, and I hope to God that your worthless and otherwise pathetic soul burns in the deepest and most inexplicably rank and torturous chasms of Hell for all eternity!!
Only then will we call it even...
They also discovered Franklin's ship (HMS Terror) this last Sept
Their fate is one of the great horror stories wrought by the hubris of the Imperial Age. We were masters of the oceans, the most technologically advanced people in the world, lords of a quarter of the world all the wealth that brought. We thought that the wrath of Mother Nature and all the horrors of the arctic and Old Night were nothing but stepping stones to conquer... Oh how wrong we were and how those brave men suffered for that arrogance.
I normally have a strong stomach for tragedy, but the story of Franklin's journey and the mummies of some of his crew dang near brought a tear to m' eye. :(
Wow, a whole bonus shanty. So cool! Thanks for this two for one feature.
I can almost see those young men leaving behind their loved ones. This guy is good, comes very close to Stan Rogers. Well done, Bravo!
You might be interested to know that yesterday morning I introduced an old friend, a former US Navy officer and SEAL in his sixties to this video, and he absolutely loved both the song and the art. The last I heard from him yesterday evening, he was locked into your videos, with the intent of watching ALL of them. Congratulations; you've gotten the official seal of approval from a Naval professional who never cared for anime art before.
Well, well, well... next thing we know, this old friend of yours will turn into some manga/anime art fine connoisseur. ^^
@@Briselance I can imagine a old hardcore sailor binge watching Naruto 😂
How did I miss this one? You just reminded me of the final episode of the great series, Due South. Thank you.
This ballad is a fine sea song with a lot of feeling due to it being a salute to absent friends. The credit song dedicated to the Herring busses of Britain are also good.
Stan Rogers was a great talent and put Canadian folk on the map so to speak. This is a cover of his work yet well done.
Drako love the stuff you come up with huge fan!!
This song honors the explorers of the north. McKenzie, Franklin, Ross, Beaufort and others. The version I like most is the one by Runrig. Nevertheless thanks for sharing!
+Bergisch Platt
The song is very powerful when you know who the song is dedicated to.
Kimber's Men do an amazing version as well
I would think that Stan Rogers would be as fertile grounds for you as the Poxy Boggards have been. If I could make a request though, I would like to see your interpretation of Barrett's Privateers.
Thanks for this. It's a great showcase for your work, and, as always, I'm in favour of anything that gets people listening to traditional music. Okay, Stan's songs aren't strictly traditional, but many of them have practically become so. I think he'd be proud of his song being given this treatment.
I'd never heard this song before now. Good work.
I've loved this song since I first heard it on the show Due South. Another excellent effort. ^_^
Apparently the Northwest Passage is open now with all the ice that's melted...
Very nicely drawn, with a great skill, ad the song is lovely too, but I can't help but ask myself if this anime, Asian style art really goes well with harsh sea shanties. I wouldn't do it myself, but again, nicely made.
Very cool vid
I love your note and warning
@The1JR7 I'm not entirely sure, but it sure sounds like Tanglefoot.
Wow, your drawings never cease to amaze me... was wondering if you would ever consider using the Hard Tack song.
Great to see a new video from you :)
This song makes me kind of sad, for some reason
+bbqe schorcher
Most of the men named in the song died trying to make a course through the Northwest Passage on Canada's Arctic coast. It is full of ice more often than not, and so was deadly dangerous to any ship in the Age of Sail.
this is not stan rogers version i do believe fyi... yet a great song none the less love yer work drako. i would pay you if you asked. oh and if i had a job..
I love this song, when i die i want both this song to be played at my funeral.
Emmett Leone-Woods Sadly I can not find Johnny Collins version of Haul boys haul on ITunes.
We are content, and that is bad, because content isn't good for advancement, and advancement means development, and development means continued survival, if we we're to stop now and never expand, eventually we would die, if not by our own faults, then by the constant expansion of our Sun.
Captains should go down with their ships.
you should do the rocky Road to dublin
Hmmm...does anyone make "car anime"? I'd love to see an anime depiction of a hakosuka Skyline GT-R or maybe a 1971 Celica 1600GT...or a hachi-roku Toyota AE86 Trueno....or a Datsun 510 Bluebird....or...nevermind. =)
Interesting, did you do those drawings?
Huh...the second song is the same exact tune as the "Itches In Me Britches" song. I bet this one is older!
For anyone curious this song was originally by Stan Rogers, a musician who more should know ^_^. Great version though.
What a great collection of shanties, so well performed. Never heard this one before, whoever wrote it has done some homework. The full story of the NorthWest Passage is a remarkable one. Amundsen made it finally in 1903-06. Actually there are several NW passages, none easy, although global warning may change this.
You know this isn't a shanty, right? It's a sea song. A shanty is a work song, with call and reply. Small difference to most people, but technically that's how it is. Just because it's about the sea or a ship doesn't make it a shanty.
i think this song was written by stan rogers, who also wrote "barret's privateers".
Don't mean to be pushy but are ya ever going to make a video for the closing song? Awesome work, keep it up!
I love this shanty. Now I have something to sing up to visit my sister later this month up in Washington State. Thanks a bunch!
"Northwest Passage" is, lyricaly, my favorite Stan Rogers tune, but I do prefer it when other groups (like this one) sing it. And the pictures are, as always incredible.
Would you lads, please, do videos for this "Haul Boys, Haul" and... maybe... for "Rocky road to Dublin"? (Just so you know, "Hunt the hare and turn her down" in chore is... actually about Hunting a girl and turning her down - on a bed, LOL)
Stan Rogers is a bad ass
Well, it was one of the most amazing stories ever. Whole expedition lost, cannibalism, heroism (just GOING was heroic!). It contrasts so strongly with Shackletons expedition, which was very similar, except that they ALL survived.
Many a night, i have dreamed of captaining a pirate ship, maybe even recruiting other ships along the way, and i would steal ocean liner goods as well as help Mexicans cross the border by sea. every time i imagine it, i hear this song. i know it's weird to connect this song with pirating, but that's what i hear.
Well....the majority of people back then had pretty boring lives too, working day in and day out to feed their families. Many never went more than 20 miles from where they were born. But I agree that it was a more fulfilling existence than the consumerist foolishness we have now. It was a better world, even with the bad parts considered.
@Theroha There are still those souls that seek adventure and it is there to be had, one day they will tell the same tales. Except they will be of spies and soldiers, hackers and policeman, so long as man lives by the gun there will be adventure to be had. The only thing that has happened to us is we got lazier and don't seek our fortunes in the third world anymore
@Shrikeswind
Roald Amundsen in 1903-1906
1977, Willy de Roos
1986 Jeff MacInnis and Wade Rowland set out on an 18-foot catamaran called Perception on a 100-day sail
1986, David Scott Cowper from England in a 12.8 m (42 ft) lifeboat
It does seem to be that way. Perhaps we've run out of places on this planet that inspire that same thirst for adventure. Or perhaps we have simply lost our stomach for it.
Anybody else feel like time has traded us lives of short adventure for longevity to suffer through a dull existence? What happened to us that society as a whole settled down?
I realy liked this video, you should see if you would be interested in making a video on "Farewell To Nova Scotia" is a good song and if not you should still check it out.
this is not stan rogers version i do believe. fyi yet a great song none the less love yer work drako. i would pay you if you asked. oh and if i had a job..
@Shrikeswind the north west passage has been navigated by manny ships that were not ice breakers during certain times of the year.
This is that break between building something, and then improving it. Information Age ---> Space Exploration Age ---------Present-------------> Space Colonization Age
A nice job. However, there is only one Stan Rodgers and his voice commanded so much passion in it.
This song inspired me to find out about (and then write about) the lost Franklin expedition it’s incredible that such exploits are remembered in such a modern way and that a failed mission to fine a sea route could touch some one born hundreds of years later.
I must be a Canadian trapped in an American body, because this song resonates with me way more than it should.
Eric Southard same but it's more like death is coming soon and this song is a way to put me to sleep for the the final time
that probably because the song was made by a canadian named stan rogers
Well done! I really enjoy your choice of songs and artwork
technicaly not a sea shanty - and more over not really a folk song - For those who do not know Stan Rogers an incredible canadian performer who we lost too soon.
Northwest Passage is not a sea shanty. It's a recently written song. A real sea shanty has to have been sung aboard ship in the days of sail.
I cant seem to fin any rendition of the credit song.
Who is this version of the song performed by? I can't seem to find it anywhere else!
@bbc0093 In what years? You have me curious.
Which band is this? Is it the Boggards?
one person must be a landlubber
You are the best youtuber😊
ill try that too
@Theroha comfort
technically tho, this ain't a shanty
Once again, well done. I like shanties and this is a good one. I like some anime as well, though the only one I've watched that you use is Fullmetal Alchemist. There hasn't been a really good anime since Cowboy Bebop and Ghost In The Shell, IMNSHO.
That said, I appreciate the amount of work you put into these. Thank you and keep 'em coming.
do you have like issues? whats with the mad hate in your info
Ian Armstrong
This guy's had issues with trolls in previous videos, even for songs that should never be subjected to such repugnant behaviors.
Due to the sad nature of this song, trolling in the comments would be lower than reprehensible, IMO.
If we've run out of such places, it's only because we no longer wish to look for them. We've lost interest in space travel, as a society. We've lost interest in studying history. We've even lost interest in traveling to the places we've already found. Complacency is crippling us, and we don't even care, because to change that would take EFFORT.
In August 21, 2007, the Arctic pack ice had been reduced enough to make the Northwest Passage navigable without an icebreaker. This was the first time on record this has happened. Records have been kept since 1972.
My girl scout troop is using this shanty for GAM (Girl Scout mariner olympics, basically.). We needed a good shanty, and I'm thankful that we could find such a meaningful one as this.
as good a version ive heard of Stan's great maritme songs..thanks for sharing
Great job! I've waited for your next chantey for a long time, and its finally here! :)
@jselvy2 You know i said the same thing a while back, Barrett's Privateers is a great song
@Phantomsbreath I actually like a lot of Stan Roger's songs. This one just bugs me for some reason.
THREE CHEERS FOR THE CAPTIAN OF HMS BOUNTY WENT DOWN WITH HIS SHIP IN SANDY !!!!
Always loved this song. I had an English teacher from Canada; she played it for our class, once.
Well no there are still adventures to be had and that breed lives on
I swear, every time you put up a new video, I fall in love with the Anime Shanties all over again! :3
I'd love to be on a ship singing this in the middle of the Caribbean
another great video, keep up the good job =)
I'm not really a anime fan but I like this.
A scots-irish American.
well done on this anime and track copy thanks, Jim
Rare to find a cover of this 'semi' sea shanty, nicely executed.
your drawings and videos are always so good, I love watching these!
Good Job! As always, the sea shanties are the best!!
Greatest two sentences I have read in a very long time.
perfect sentiment for Winter Storm Nemo 2013....
Who's singing this?
Stan rogers.
TheHappyjack1 It's a Stan Rogers song, true, but that's not Stan singing. I don't know who it is. but Stan it ain't.
It sounds a bit like John Collins
@agricolaterrae It's a great song, except when the original writer sings it.
