You have created an easy method for this hexagon sweater. I have looked at several other videos for this sweater. Your's is absolutely the easiest to follow.
So happy you did this pattern with the striping yarn, almost skipped over this one because the pic is in a solid color but took a chance. I did watch the Fireside pattern video but honestly yours is so much clearer. Wonderful job! Thanks so much!
I LOVE IT! Thanks for sharing your wonderful talents with us, you’re soo clever! 😅 Using some Caron Latte Cakes!🥰🎯🧐You’ve taught me soo much, soo very grateful for YOU Craig!💋🫵🏼🤙
omg, i love it so far and i am left handed so i had to figure out to do this and got it so far and can't wait to go next part 3 soon..ty so much and love it ...keep doing it!
You are so welcome! I figure that I have a couple more installments of this series to go - sleeves, collar, bottom, hood, edging, maybe even buttons (not sure yet). Please be patient and I will do my best to keep the videos coming 😊
Please help !!!.... I have completed my hexagons and joined the shoulder seam inside out as recommended...but when I've gone along the front and across the bottom afterwards I end of at the wrong side of the "starting" corner. What on earth am I doing wrong? For the life of me I can't fathom it !!!!!
Thank you Fiber Spider for this fabulous tutorial, I will be making this an probally more than one. I live in England UK, so no access to the yarn that you have used, thank you for the indepth explanations you give.
This is amazing...I've been wanting to make one of these hexagon sweaters...I'm going to try this one! I love the hood you added, can't wait to see part 3. Thank you...you're awesome
Hi there, I have finished my 2 hexagons leaving the last round half completed (crocheted 3 sides) as you suggested. In crocheting the top of the sleeves together, I am not sure where to start. I crochet left-handed and not sure if I start at the top sleeve as you have demonstrated or at the bottom back of the piece and come around up the front and then crochet the top of the sleeve at the end. Please let me know your thoughts. :)
Good question! To be perfectly honest I'm not sure, that being said I would say 'go with your gut', give either starting point a try and see if it works.
Thank you Spider. I have already started part one. I'm loving it. As I live in the UK and so therefore find it really hard to find USA yarns I am using Woolcraft Gateau cakes which are identical to Caron Cakes in makeup. Only difference is they have A different colour way. Thank you for sharing your awesome pattern. This cardigan/jacket is really going to keep me warm through the cold British winter. Sending you love from the other side of the pond.
Good afternoon Sew Woolly, I live in Northwest of England UK, please can you tell me did you order the Woolcraft Gateau Cakes on line, or is their a shop that sells them, also is their wool in these as I am allergic to wool, so use Acrylic, also please how many did you use, being in UK. it is 100grm balls of DK or Aran, I use. TIA.
Sonja Birch hi. Sorry I'm only just replying. I have only just noticed your comment. Yes woolcraft Gateau have got wool in them. They are 20% wool. I am allergic to wool and I haven't had A problem with them. I knitted myself A scarf and have been wearing it and I have not had a problem. I ordered mine from a friend on Facebook. You can order them from wool warehouse though as well. They are online. Hope this helps.
Thank you so much for video! I am having a think about how make this design work for much larger sizes. Sleeve size becomes a major problem over a 46 inch size. But it a cool design and I will make one in huge and see what happens.
Hello. Just trying to watch all videos before starting my cardigan. If I understand this correctly...one should assemble the top and back looking at the wrong side? So the ridge you mention is on the wrong side. TY for confirming FS. I love your tutorials.
Ooh, I figured it out. You started at the bottom inside corner (at the waist), then went up (1st side), then corner+turned right at the top (2nd side), corner again and turned right, which, when folded, creates the armhole (3rd side) and stopped at the corner, folded the hexagon... and you can clearly see in the video where you’ll be starting the joining not only because the yarn is still attached at the unfinished corner, but you point it out where you’ll begin joining. Now I have to figure out the 3 sides for the second hexagon, because you must have equal sides (in rows) to perfectly align them while joining them.
Thank you so much for this vid. I am making one very similar and the sleeves are WaaaaaY too wide.. Hoping this helps me solve this problem cause I love this cardi!!!! Thanks again!!☺
I, like you, buy plenty of skeins of yarn but I totally believe in symmetry - even my asymmetry has to be vaguely symmetrical or close enough- even the spots on a dog's face have to be close enough to symmetry or I will obsess about it and not like the dog- that's how about it is. I said all that to say this: I have unrolled skein after skein of yarn just to make sure that the variegations of color are the same length in it and that the colors are actually very similar - it can't have any dark streaks running through it like that light Minty part of your 2nd piece's center, it had a darker leafy green running through it. Going through that little bit of trouble was worth it , both of my sides looked the same. Extensions on the arm and the length of the body where the same. Only difference is thatI made my big sweater of rectangles of vari-yarn (1 back, 4 arms, 2 fronts wide enough to cross over as double breasted ) Sewn together and then trimmed all around. I like your way better, then I would only have to pull out 1 or 2 skeins to find the right place to begin, Having measured it beforehand you see. There was quite a bit of cutting and knotting of yarns to make sure I had proper amounts of striping in the same places of all of my pieces so that it looked pretty uniform.
I have a question about joining the shoulder area of the hexes. You talk about it making a ridge when you join, and that you simply turn it inside out to hide the ridge. But, from what I can tell, that means that you then will have the "wrong side - or back side" to the front of the garment. I prefer the right side to remain the outside. Any suggestions? Can I turn it inside out before joining? Thanks for your time.
Just found your video. I like the way you did this Granny Square Cardigan. I've just done two Granny Square Tops and have fallen Love with all Granny pattern possibilities. Do you have more?
Thank you so much for this tutorial! Have you tried using a single crochet instead of a slip stitch when joining-as-you-go? I have done it that way for a blanket and the seam was more flat.
Good question. I have used this technique before with blankets and have had no problems thus far. By all means you can use other methods of joining although for the sake of ease, simplicity, and appearance - this is what I chose.
I've just finished my first hex, as I am large the sleeves have come out quite wide, but I can live with that. But you mention a wrong and right side? Which is which please. I can see they are different but not sure which is the outside side, if you see what I mean!
Ok. Which 3 sides of the hexagon did you crochet just before joining them? It would’ve been easier to have marked where you started to work the 3 sides and then fold the hexagon so we can follow along with the explanation. Each one of my rows start in the middle of a side, so it’s really confusing.
One question. How would a person make this a solid granny. I would love to have a more solid Cardigan. Thank you. I hope I don't hurt your feelings. I love love your work.
There are patterns out there for solid 'granny' squares. Actually thought of utilizing the idea too, no offense taken, would make a less lacy and more substantial fabric. I like it when people think outside of the box! 😄
Hello again, its me, your PITA ....I JUST got the 2 sides joined...YAAAYYY!!! Here's the issue...I apparently have very short arms! because I tried this on and the sleeves ALREADY stop at the wrists. How do I taper them now? My friend says run some yarn through them to gather them (which would make like pirate sleeves which I don't mind) and then make a cuff...but how do I do that? Or do YOU have another suggestion...Your help is greatly appreciated :-) (and this is the largest thing I have ever made, AND its for ME, for once) ....TIA for your help again!!
Hmmmm. Could be tricky, but still possible. I would suggest trying a rapid decrease (like decreasing every stitch or every other until the circumference is wrist friendly). Since the length will inevitably increase, use the added length for cuffs perhaps. Not sure if this is what you are going for, but I really hope it was of some help. 😊🕸🕷
how would you decrease every stitch with a granny pattern (because of the chain spaces) ....how I was picturing it, as my friend was trying to explain to me, is like running yarn through the sleeve and cinching it so far (like you would do to close off the top of a beanie) and then making a cuff of say 3 rows or more of SC's to keep it the right size. but then how to repeat it exactly the same on the other sleeve??? EEEEKKK!! ....OK, YOUR option sounds the most uniform....how do I decrease a granny pattern every stitch?? Please and TIA :-)
Have you seen part 5 of this series yet? ruclips.net/video/i-RvlQyyPAw/видео.html It explains how you can do a granny decrease. In your case you will just need to do more decreases quicker than I do.
I've seen the whole series but its been a minute since I have....I'm watching part 3 on the making it longer part right now and I do intend to make it a duster....so part 5 is the part I need for the decrease...thank you!! :-)
Can someone help me? I am trying to visualize this before I start it but I don’t understand the joining part. Make the two hexes and then on one side make the sleeve but go all the way around on the front or back? And with the other side after you mae the sleeve you go around the whole thing on the back and connect at the same time? It just doesn’t add up in my head when I watch the video
Problem, If I'm crocheting on the wrong sides I'm crocheting backwards. I am totally confused at this point and I wasn't confused before. I usually understand every thing When you explain it but I've gone back and looked at the joining several times and still can't get it right. I guess ill just have to live with the ridge🤷
i'm in the Buffalo area but i'm originally from Canada. your humor reminds me so much of Canada. makes me homesick lol :) .. i like the granny stitch, as well.. easy, mindless, and quick.. ;) someday i'll make this sweater.. it looks lovely and warm. btw i LOVE your theme music .. have a super, wonderful weekend!!

I absolutely love your videos, you explain things so well.
You are amazing....this is wonderful never been able to do a cardigan sweater especially with sleeves..you are a bleesing..thanks soooooooo much
I love this formula. You make the nicest adaptions. I got to decide on a color combo and get going.
I am so thrilled with this tutorial that I could not wait for it to begin!
You Give me the courage to try new things. Thank you. Loving this series

Thank you! 😊 The great thing about this formula idea is that technically you can use a variety of yarns/hook sizes - nothing set in stone!
Fiber Spider brilliant. Thank you

New to your channel. Thank you for this project. I am looking forward to seeing how the hood is done. Thanks again.
Love it! Great job with the tutorial!
So helpful! Thank you!
Thank you so much for this vid. I am making one very similar and the sleeves are WaaaaaY too wide.. Hoping this helps me solve this problem cause I love this cardi!!!! Thanks again!!☺
Not to worry. Yes, the sleeves are initially really wide, however I will show you how to taper them in like I did with the gray example.
Hallo van uit België ik vind je haakwerk fantastisch goede uitleg .Dank U

I wanted to let you know that Michaels has Caron cakes on sale today; 3 or 3:50 off. Since you love this yarn, I wanted to let you know.
Ah, same for the 2nd hexagon, you started the 18th row at the inside corner, went up, left, and left.
I love it!!💕

I did 18 rows and it looks like a child cardigan and I used the same size hook and the same type of yarn so what did I do wrong
Ok I didn’t watch the whole thing now I know we will be adding on after we sew it together
The 18 rows you did is for what size?
Size medium
Help I did something wrong and ended up with 2 right sides. I sent more detailed message to your Facebook page.
are you from Canada, Spider?
I'm from New York 😉

Is this right side or wrong side out
So you crochet it together from the wrong side
Yes. On the wrong side
Not loud enough hard to hear you
