Crocheted Cardigan Tutorial/Formula! Pt. 1

  • This video is the first of a series in which I will show you how to create a crocheted cardigan (with or without a hood) that you can customize. That being said this is not a tutorial in the strict sense of the word but more of a formula, therefore there is no exact pattern to follow! I hope you enjoy it! 😊

    Thank you once again. I’m sat crocheting my latest project so, decided to listen/watch this as I love listening to you and it’s on my to do list. Yesterday I saw someone wearing one of these and the colour way was beautiful, so, naturally we chatted, as you do. Anyway I definitely don’t have mistakes, I have 'non-deliberate errors!' 😂🤣 It sounds so much better.

    I’ve started my cardigan with Yarn Bee Soft & Sleek in Blush. It looks rose gold in the daylight. I am thrilled with this easy peasy formula and I thank you, Fiber Spider. I think it is a wonderful gift that you provide to those of us who are not in a position to purchase patterns. I love your title as I was born on Halloween. Thank you for your time and patience!

    I’ve been looking for a good cardigan tutorial for about a month now, but to be honest none of them were easy enough to follow. I love what you’ve done here. You have made this so easy to follow and I’m excited to try it. Thank you for all of your videos, if it wasn’t for you I would have given up on crochet.

    Met a lady in WM today while I was wearing what I call my Hippie Sweater, which she loved BTW! Of course I told her about The Fiber Spider (and how fabulous he is) on RUclips and since she was a crocheter, she could make her very own! Almost forgot, we had to search out somebody with a pen, she didn't want to forget The Fiber Spiders name! Of course I told her about Big Cakes as well! Sooo, curiosity is now killing me (meow) as to weather or not she found the tutorial! Are you out there lady from WM?

  • @silvistan9779
    @silvistan9779 4 года назад

    Just wanted to share that the hexagon can be worked like this: magic ring+ ch 3+ 2dc, ch 2 + 3dc ... repeat until 6 dc clusters, join+ ch 3 & turn + 2 dc in same 2-chain space, ch2 + 3dc in same 2-ch sp (creates corner)... repeat to end: each 2-ch sp gets 3dc cluster+ch2+3dc cluster, jn + ch3, turn+ 2dc in same join space, jump over previous row’s cluster & make corner... repeat till desired width.
    This method eliminates the slip stitching at start of each round, and chaining only 2 at corners is sufficient, also, no ch1 is required between clusters, saving you a little time and a little yarn, plus a perfectly neat hexagon especially at the joining points, comes out flawlessly. Happy crochet!

    Yet another great pattern...and in granny style, no less! So, in keeping with the granny theme, how about a tutorial for a rectangular granny afghan; size adjustable according to the number of starting chains...food for thought, perchance? I'd also like to see more shawl patterns on the order of the "Cloister Shell Shawl", and the "Arbor Shawl". Keep up the good work. I'm always so pleased when I see another one of your tutorials (both knit and crochet) appear. Be well.

    Great explanation! Only thing I say is you do know the point of the cakes is so you don’t have to roll them into a ball. It’s to have a cake that sits flat with a center pull start.
    I have made several of these before but a lot of the other tutorials are not as clear as you are. I also love that you have a method for tapering the arms. That’s especially useful for someone like me who would drag those wide sleeves into everything. Thanks love this tutorial.

    • @FiberSpider
      @FiberSpider  6 лет назад +1

      Thank you very much! 😊 I know about cakes vs. balls, but I still like to ball up my yarn first because that way I can deal with splicing knots, defects, etc on my own terms prior to working the piece. Call me paranoid, but I like to think of it as erring on the side of caution 😉

    I really like it 💕just bought a Caron big cake our micheals store had a sale buy one get one 50percent off my color was Blueberry Tart now can watch your videos because you are very good and make this and customize it. I've made one cardigan sweater coat off a ten min video not yours of coarse but it turned out good I improvised most of it and shaped the arms to fit me although it could still fit a bigger person I like roomy.
    I can't wait to try this I understand the two granny hexagon but an actual tutorial with your own ideas and expectations will be fabulous. Oh by the way the Astranria Cowl tutorial was great I've made six for people and the width gives them a lovely drape.
    Cheers to you from one of you yarnettes 👍

    The best way to customize or size something is: lay it on the person, it's called draping. All I'm trying to say is you're straining at gnats and that's what's frustrating. Just eyeball it, if you're not very good at that and you know your size you know how wide it needs to be just do the math, who cares how many rows it's got? Is it big enough to cover your @$$, is the question - just crochet til it does!
    Oh I see now you've laid down your shirt to see if it's the right size... Dang good idea. brilliant!

One will be a size 3 weight, in a lovely coral I found, and the other will be done in a size 4 Bernat Pop color hot chocolate. Thinking even a 3rd one... sort of in between... in greens. I've found, I love projects like this! I positively LOVE the way you customized the sleeves. Zimmermann was revolutionary to knitting! She helped to break moulds away from yarn manufacturers and pattern makers that said 'in order to do this project you must use this yarn'. I have always rebelled in my own little way and through tons of trial and error have learned a thing or two about tweaking patterns over the years. That is why I really wanted to try this formula style series in the hopes that you too can break free, try something you may have been afraid of trying, learn more, and grow to new heights of potential one stitch at a time 😊 Thank you!
