  • Buying vintage supercars is tougher than it sounds. Even when you've reached terms both parties are happy with and the deal seems completely solid, people are unpredictable and often emotions take control of a situation. Sit back and hear about our deal with Mr. Hoover of Hoovie's Garage that ended up not being a deal at all..

Poor John! I really didn’t think I could afford to keep both. I still really can’t afford it, but I’m doing it anyway.
I did encourage John to make this video-- name and shame me haha. I try really hard to maintain my “dumbest automotive channel” status and choosing not sell at least one of these Lambos to Curateed for a very fair price is yet another example of the endless bad decisions I’ve made.

A bad decision is one you’ll regret later...in my opinion losing one of these gorgeous cars (coming from someone who also grew up with the Alpine Countach poster) could perhaps be the biggest regret. Of course if it meant losing your house etc, sure, but I’d literally sell everything else before letting go of any of those Lamborghinis. In other words...of all your bad decisions, this is not one!!

I disagree with your suggestion that Hoovie's MO is to fix cars as cheaply as possible. While he does in fact make a point of buying the cheapest...... In the US, it is quite the opposite when it comes to fixing these vehicles. He almost spares no expense, normally to his detriment. If you actually watch his videos you would know of the running joke between him and his mechanic is the lavish items The Wizard can buy each time Hoovie pays a bill. You have every right to your opinion about this specific situation but do some background checking before you make blanket statements.

Hoovie, Like Doug Demero can make or break your career. one really does not want hoovie as an enemy especially as a small channel.. If this was an apology video, and hoovie did indeed acknowledged it, and his guilt in the whole matter. still this was a piss poor attempt at an apology. it didnt feel real even his admitting to sandbagging hoovie on car trek HOOVIE IS THE MOST STAND UP GUY ON RUclips!!!!! The only dodgy thing he's done on his channel was the hole in the lambo floor. That was his choice and he has to live with it. He could have just not shown it and his car would have been worth much more. He could have also chosen not to show when Wizard put the wrong fluid in his SLS trans but he did. Everyone makes mistakes, including expensive dealers but I bet they won't let you know about it!

    • @tjroelsma
      @tjroelsma 3 года назад +19

Hoovie mostly goes to the Wizard for his repairs because his work is excellent. Now the Wizard sometimes uses non-branded or even different brand parts because it actually makes sense. He's for example shown and explained that an electronics module that's in a vintage Jaguar V-12 has exactly the same component inside a nice metal Jaguar stamped housing as an American car. Only the American part is about 6 times cheaper. So it stands to reason to buy that part, mount it in the metal housing of the Jaguar and fix the problem way cheaper that way. Purists abhor that, but in the common world it makes sense. But the Wizard actually leaves the choice to his customer. Ultimately it's Hoovie who decides and Hoovie simply tells the Wizard to do the sensible thing.

Honestly ; I’ve watched all hoovie’s videos since his channel probably didn’t even have 30k subscribers. If you watched his channel; you’d know that this purchase was serrendipidy.. he couldn’t afford it but couldn’t let it pass. So he bought the 2 thinking one of his 3 lambos had to go before doing his taxes in April. As time went by he just couldn’t do it.. he was in love with all 3 of them and tried everything possible to keep them all, selling all the cars he could from his garage. Even his wife didn’t let him sell any of his lambos. Shopping around is really not his style. He is not money driven, he is a true passionate guy. He did not try to play you, trust me on that. The countach the diablo and the murciélago were 3 of his dream cars, each for a specific reason and he couldn’t let any go because he didn’t know if he would have the opportunity to own all 3 again. And John, you seem like a very Nice Guy; I think even now you are missjudging Tyler. He is quite the opposite of an oportunist and he is quite generous. He likes all type of cars, and mostly ends up losing money from what he buys. He’s an ex car dealer that had to stop doing it because he sucked at it because his passion and good heart always took the best of him.

Most people just cant handle a mature conversation and get out of their comfort bubble. I think the way he did it was good, i would aswell be very frustrated if i put my time into valuating a vehicle just to say its sold to you and then a week later not getting the sale. Your time is wrapped up in this no matter what and you are expecting a vehicle, to just not get it. I experience this without vehicles just buying anything for sale over the internet. DidTyler do this to get a better price from a competing buyer? No.
Did Tyler do this to surreptitiously get a buyer and cut you out as the middleman? Again, no.
Did Tyler do this to get a free appraisal? No.
Did Tyler sign *anything* and then “back out”? Once again, no.
Did Tyler end up selling either car to *anyone*? No.
Tyler fell in love with both cars. He couldn’t, in the end, overcome his passion for these cars and sell them. He had to sell other vehicles to cover the taxes.
John, you go to great lengths to project yourself as being driven by your passion for these cars. In reality, this video shows that your passion is strictly for the money these cars bring. This video does a superb job showing you to be a petty, spoiled rotten brat of a used car salesman. You threw a temper tantrum because a person, in the end, decided that the cars meant more to them than your money.
In my opinion, the “bad guy” in this video is you. I’m baffled as to why you made this video in the first place.

No one is tuning into Tyler's channel to see how cheap he is. And often comment section reflects that. The market on the rise it's definitely a seller's market. Don't worry John, I believe one day you may end up having your hands on one or both of them. You just have to be patient and let Hoovie enjoy his childhood dreams. Great story. I look forward to many more.

I think this video proves that good, honest people do prevail and come out on top. As I watched the video I'm wondering what could have possibly gone wrong. After watching a lot of Hoovie's videos and being in the car business for over 20 years, I notice how honest Hoovie is in his videos. It's good to see the John from Curated thinks exactly the same of Hoovie. Like John said, Hoovie told him all the good and most importantly all the bad about his cars he was trying to sell, but ended up keeping in the end. Great video!!!

So basically what you're telling us is when Car Trek comes out in 3 months, you destroy his chance for a win in that challenge? Even knowing that Ed's Lambo was basically a salvage car and Freddie has mentioned numerous times that his DBS is not in the best shape and he is constantly wrenching on it just to keep it running right. Whereas Tyler bought the SLS and he paid extra to get car with no issues because it was his dream car. And other than the Wizard messing up the transmission service, we haven't seen that car have any issues. Plus you are Ed 's friend. Gotta say John, other than you constantly not wearing your seatbelt, thats the only other thing I've gotten mad at you for. But trust me, I get it.

I enjoy Johns stories, but this one makes him look like a greasy-sleazy used car sales man. Do i believe he has a right to be upset with hoovie. yes indeed hoovie backed out of 2 "deals". id be upset too, but getting that pissed? seriously? over a car deal that didnt happen. maybe you better go talk to Rabbit. he loses deals every day and could care less. he just moves on to the next deal.

As a Hoovies Garage fan, I watched all the videos where he wrestled with selling one of his Lambos. He had not planned to buy the two cars but it was too good to pass up. It was clear he needed to pay a looming tax bill, and selling one of the three was the fiscally responsible thing to do... But he just was not ready to part with them. Hearing the Curated side of this story confirms what we saw on the Hoovie channel. I think its a natural thing to go through when you figure selling is your only way out of a bind but your heart is not in it. It is poor form, but understandable. Good you both ended up friends despite the unfortunate start.

Great story of your dealings! I had always wondered what the details were.
Had to laugh about the ordeal of changing a Countach clutch. The wing behind you reminded me of my '74 Pantera (which had the same exact wing), and swapping in a new clutch right after I bought it. It was as simple as pulling out the ZF 5-speed, popping in the new clutch and bolting her back together again. I think the guy from Microsoft who bought that car from me is still enjoying it. :)

Also Tyler would make way more money on the cars by making videos about how parts on his Lambos are breaking down or need fixing, that is how RUclips works!
