  • Learn to machine knit a slouchy beanie hat on a knitting machine. In this tutorial I am using a Silver Reed LK 150 but it is the same process on the Brother KX 350 or any other mid-gauge knitting machine. This project is suitable for beginners with some experience. If you are very new to machine knitting, I recommend making a basic hat first and working your way up from there. • Brother KX 350 or LK 1...
    This is a warm, comfortable hat that can be worn slouchy or scrunched up tighter on your head.
    I am using Berroco Ultra Alpaca yarn which is a 50% Alpaca and 50% wool yarn. This is a #4 weight yarn in the US, which is also known as Aran or Worsted weight yarn. Any similar yarn should work. This yarn is readily available in local yarn stores or on Amazon here:

    The yarn clips I used can be ordered here: amzn.to/35Ndo3l

    I made it! It was easy easy due to your wonderful instructions! Honestly- the only problem I had was on my end: I have a garter bar and I struggled endlessly with it. Once I did your method of waste yarn it was smooth sailing! I made mine in purple worsted wt yarn I just upped the tension dial and it worked out well. I am giving this as a gift today I plan on making another one. THANK YOU SOOOO MUCH!!

    • @AnnaHaferman
      @AnnaHaferman  3 года назад

      That's fantastic! I don't have a garter bar for the LK150 so I haven't tried it that way. I do have plenty of waste yarn, so that worked best for me, too. I also wanted this pattern to be easy to do on the KX350 which doesn't have a readily available garter bar.
      I made this hat several times while I was designing it and then when shooting the video. I found that once I got in the groove it went pretty quickly.

      Also, I gave one to my friend and sewed on some of the little bee charms I had left over from the honeycomb hat in a different video.

    • @AnnaHaferman
      @AnnaHaferman  3 года назад +1

      Great! Let me know how it goes. This pattern hasn't been as popular as some of the others; I think people think it's going to be difficult because of all the re-hanging, but it really goes pretty fast once you get in the groove. If you're not good at rehanging stitches yet, you will be by the time you finish the pattern.

    Thanks for your videos. I am curious to know if you use your waste yarn for anything or is it just discarded?

    • @AnnaHaferman
      @AnnaHaferman  3 года назад +1

      You can reuse it but it means rewinding small pieces and knotting them together which takes a lot of patience and time. I usually use old yarn that I get cheap from the thrift store or for free so I feel okay about discarding it. I don’t buy new yarn and use it as waste yarn.

    IF YOU WOULD LIKE A HINT THUS---- WITH BEG. OF WORK DONE TOO NEXT AT TURNING POINT !!! USE FINE CROCHET COTTON OF A DIFFERENT COLOUR TO KNIT ONE ROW ONLY### THEN USE THE WASTE YARN (CONTRAST COL.) AND KNIT 8 ROWS. TURN WORK AS PER PATTERN CHOSEN. KNIT NEXT 10 ROWS (OR CHOSEN ROWS REQUIRED) AT THIS STAGE DO AS 1st WITH CROCHET COTTON ONE ROW ONLY AND THEN WASTE YARN. CONTINUE SAME UNTIL PROJECT IS FINISHED. NOW PULL OUT THE CROCHET COTTON AND YOUR WASTE YARN SHOULD FALL AWAY. WIND UP THE WASTE YARN AND COTTON PIECE, CAN BE USED MANY TIMES. NOTE THAT YOU MAY HAVE TO DISGARD
    WASTE AFTER A FEW USES. ### DON'T HAVE ANY KNOTS ON THE CROCHET COTTON ## PLEASE TRY IT OUT, YOU WILL BE SURPRISED.

    • @AnnaHaferman
      @AnnaHaferman  2 года назад +2

      Thanks for the tip. There are many different ways to do it; choose whatever is easiest for you. You would only want to do seven rows of waste yarn if you use a ravel cord or your carriage will be on the wrong side.
