Thank you for covering this. Other less than games like Starfield didn't even have hdr. This pc game situation just isn't all there alot of times. Also you can’t edit the setting precisely for some reason..
0:13 What's the software you're using to display brightness informations ?
I would really need a tool like that too xD
Playing it on 4k in my C635 and the HDR looks awesome
for me, i played on both ps5 and pc with 6900xt, i cannot get hdr looking correct, with or without the mod. something is wrong with the colors also.
Use SDR monitor or buy RTX car, Nvidia HDR features can custom HDR setting in HDR monitor
yes i can do that too with adrenaline software, i just want to canvas to be correct if you know what i mean@@vtg1800
Hey Markus, why didn’t you try Nvidia RTX HDR option instead of unofficial method?
To be honest, no time. And the native HDR implementation is awesome (with the fix). I am sure it will be fixed soon and I will test it again
It's doesn't work significantly better than just using the working paper white slider, means the overall picture including UI elements gets too bright. Yes, it gives you more control to tweak it, but it's in no way an alternative to the unofficial patch, which enables _actual_ HDR with proper highlights instead of just blowing up the SDR picture. The same applies to Windows AutoHDR and Special K as well.
@@NeovanGoth actually RTX HDR works better then Native in many games which I have tried. If you have a chance I strongly recommend you to give it a chance.
Does this patch work for LG G3? Btw, dunno why but the Discord link is not working for me.
Yes. I'm playing on a G3 and get true 1500 nits highlights according to Lilium's HDR Analysis. Looks pretty nice and much better than SDR-to-HDR modded in with Special K.
I downloaded it from Nexusmods. Just place the .dll and .asi in the game directory and you're good to go. One caveat: The preview picture in the game's HDR setting does still not work. The slider does work however, just set it to 1500, leave the settings menu and you'll see the difference.
Edit: Fixed autocorrect fail (fake directory = game directory 🤦♂️)
IMPORTANT, HFW on PC uses windows hdr calibration tool for its default max lum, run that first
It's flat broken just use rtx hdr
Discord link don’t work :/
Windows HDR never works.
Tried this patch but I find the colors still dull, too yellowish, blues and reds lack the hdr pop. TV is S95C
Video is recorded in HDR but RUclips can take up to 48 hours to process HDR. Until HDR is finalized the picture will look very washed out and Colors will be wrong. Please come back later to watch this Video in HDR again. Thank You!
Thank you very much for all your dedicated work!
What would you recommend as the best max luminance and other settings for CX when HDR is fixed?
I have PS5 and AMD RX 6800XT driver 24.3.1 TV LG G3 HDR is the same. HGiG turned On on TV. Through HDMI 2.1 .Nixxes Software said that port was from PS4 version
12 minute video and he doesn’t talk about the highlight boost setting
thank for this comment, didn't noticed, that just watched it in sdr)
@@teddyholiday8038
What is that?
can you also include the discord server invite link in the videos description? im not sure that you can view channels unless you've joined the server beforehand
Previously, you gave recommendations for the C series, not G. What settings should I set for C3?
SDR IPS panel better then HDR, I sell my HDR monitor back to SDR get better colors and brightness
The contrast should remain, but the specular should be able to be pushed to 2,000 or even higher. Maybe the game is mastered at 1,500 nits. Which is sad. New standard should be 4,000 nits and then let a TV tone map to what it can do.
Theyve patched this no need for this mod
If you are on nvidia card I would use RTX HDR, far better than both native HDR implementation and the various mods.
can't access the files through your Discord link. Any other way to get this?
go to nexus mods and search "horizon forbidden west HDR Max Luminance Fix"
@@cheese186Thanks! I’ll check it out soon.
@@cheese186Works great!
I thought the game already looked ok in HDR but after this ‘patch’ I immediately noticed how much more the image ‘pops’. The highlights are pretty incredible now.
Thanks again for the tip!
@@jaytb6458 yeah was my experience as well
Is keeping HDR highlight boost at 10 more accurate or would keeping it at zero be more accurate in line with the creator’s intent?
Keeping it at 0 is creators intent.
10 would blind me on my Mini LED lol
now they just need to fix button remapping. I absolutely hate not being able to remap TAB.... what were they thinking.
it's on nexusmods too now btw
It worked the first time but when I put it in windowed mode the problem came back I even tried to reinstall the two files but it still looks dim
Thanks for covering this. Thought I was going mad.
ReShade 4 teh w1n 😂😂😂😂 man just use reshade and you have muuuuuch more settings to use 😂😂😂😂
Thanks for the video! I fixed the HDR with that fix on my G8 Oled monitor.
As stated here already , they patched it with a few other small fixes. Now I eagerly wait for the HDR review from the best HDR channel on YT in regards
video is coming soon but HDR processing takes time!
Appreciate you doing these videos. Sadly, I don't use discord so I'll have to try other fixes.

Those comparison shots with arrows were amazing Marcus. Thanks! I hope you use them more in future. Id love to see them used on an RTX HDR vs Regular HDR vs Auto HDR comparison.
Thanks. I will do this more often now
@@GamingTech-RUclips awesome. Maybe also a comparison video on HGIG vs DTM (or GameHDR Advanced in S95C) using similar format with arrows. There's not many videos around comparing those and it'd be good content
@leeson865 this is very difficult to do because I would need to record if the screen with my camera and the quality is always not very good
@@GamingTech-RUclips Understand, but keep in mind the perfection is the enemy of good mate. Your videos this far always look top quality to me!
What about rtx hdr for this game?
Depends what GPU you got. Most of us are still trying to squeeze performance with this game, so it's unlikely to be used much unless you got a 40 series card probably
Hey, does someone know what OLED TV GamingTech is using for his HDR test/calibration please ? Is this still the LG CX ? Btw, the discord link is not working.
I think it's an LG G2.
@@elban73 Do you think the recommended settings are the same for an LG CX or it will be a little bit different ?
I wish I could give you a more knowledgeable answer, I also have a C9 but I'm afraid the settings are not the same.@@biglittleboy9827
2:26 This statement is wrong or at least misleading. Paper white does of course set peak brightness if there is no way to increase the actual peak brightness above its setting. If you the set paper white slider to 1000 nits, you get a peak brightness of 1000 nits, unless you set the peak brightness slider even higher, which is not possible, because it's broken.
There is an actual issue with the paper white slider though: It doesn't go _below_ 300 nits.
Yes, you are correct and that's what I meant . I should explain it in more detail. We have seen games where peak brightness increased, even paper white was below the maximum peak setting. What I meant is that if paper white us below the maximum peak setting it should not affect the maximum peak brightness whatsoever. Thanks
And paperwhite can be set higher than 300 nits. Because it depends how far your TV/monitor can push brightest whites and colors. Set it as high as you can without washing out the image. I wonder if actually looking at what your TV can do as max full screen luminance would be the best guide line here. Like a MiniLED can do up to 600-900 nits full screen.
OLED is limited to 150-280 nits or so.
This games look so good on PC! Thx for the fix, it looks so much better now
@DepresjaToFikcja your stupid! Get a life.
@@DepresjaToFikcja ummm.... what?
Can anyone help me? After switching to a new motherboard and cpu my native lg oled’s 4k hdr looks way off when dropping to 1440p. For example hgig becomes brighter than dynamic tone mapping, colors just off, UI very dull. This game and a few others work when I changed to borderless full screen or in this games case going from exclusive FS to regular FS. But most games don’t work with this method. This issue is driving me nuts and I’ve scoured the internet for a fix and no replies on Reddit.
Paperwhite can be set higher it all depends what your TV or monitor can do. It's the brightest whites and also how bright colors can get. Basically set it as high as the TV/monitor can handle without blowing out. A non MLA or latest high end QDOLED can do higher than 300. Same with miniLEDs. But it's important to not make it wash out. But don't set it too low either because you're limiting what your TV can do.
cant access the discord link.
It’s easy to join the discord and find the link
I already fixed mine myself. Make sure you have a windows hdr calibration preset saved, (you should do that anyway), and then lower the max luminance right down to its lowest, followed by the paper white. Then you can start to raise them both at proper values. You might have to fiddle about with it a bit. Ive managed to get my paper white at an even 250 with 825 max luminance which is perfect for me.
This mod can be found on nexus mods. Also I would highly recommend setting the shadow detail down to -5(or lower) in the game's hdr settings. I have found that the default setting of 0 makes shaded and dark areas unnaturally dark resulting in lost details. I appreciate the video!
When using dynamic tone mapping show we aim to our panel max luminance (i.e 800 nits) or what windows report as max luminance? Calibrating windows with dynamic tone mapping in the cx i get a 4000 nits in settings, and i feel the game looks better when doing 1500 nits in game
What is so damned hard for these developers of all games to make proper HDR on PC. It's like they don't even bother.
Bro Look at Red Dead Redemption 2 HDR10+
Just like the game release on the ps5. I think it took a few months to get it working and using the ps5 calibration system.
Wonder how long would it take final fantasy 7 rebirth
Hi there, what software do I need for that cool on-screen HDR analysis data?
can this be useful on edge lit displays? i use hdr on my lg monitor and 99% of the time it looks better than sdr for the increased brightness and color space, but forbidden west seems really weird with hdr on on my display
why don't you just post the link to nexus mods, the fix is hosted there along with my DLSS 3.6.0 update mod
I can add the link as soon as I am back home
Game support windows hdr calibration ?
Yes
No
Hey Markus.
Based in what should i set paper white?
Can you please check the new FF7 REBIRTH update?
I just looked at it. Seems the same except for a "sharp" or "soft" option on the performance mode.
To me it looks like nothing changed with the image quality in either mode. "Soft" is still the same blurry smear look and "Sharp" is the same but with some noticable pixalation on edges probably from some attempted sharpening filter. Overall they look basically the same as before, to me anyway.
A short video looking at it would be fun though.
this settigs work perfectly for s95c?
This is on nexus mods now.
Thx alot for all you're work ! Keep going you deserve far more sub !!!!
RTX HDR?
Does it fix anth like the first Horizon?
No, that (just like Windows AutoHDR and Special K) expands the SDR image to HDR range. It's ok to give games without HDR support more punch, but isn't a replacement for actual HDR support. You can see this easily as it gives white UI elements a brightness of 100% of the chosen range, which is wrong.
Läuft gut weil kein raytracing im game vorhanden ist
Performance ist praktisch identisch mit Avatar, das RTGI verwendet (und damit wesentlich moderner aussieht).
You should discuss RTX HDR as well. It looks great in this game
Native (fixed) HDR is better
@@techoptimized did you try RTX HDR?
@@gamingwithdummies3960Yes
@@gamingwithdummies3960 Yes
It has the same problem as AutoHDR and Special K: It doesn't show true highlights, but expands the SDR image to a higher range. It's ok to give games without native HDR support more oomph, but it's in no way a replacement for proper HDR support, particularly not on really bright displays.
Is the fix just the Nexus Mod one?
Yes and I confirm it works perfectly
Yes, and it's also integrated in the latest version of Special K.
I told him about this fix and he finally covered it
The game is so good, its almost an argument just for arguments sake. HDR isn't necessary, game is beautiful as is.
If your screen doesn't do more than 500 nits then yes, but in a proper OLED screen like the LG G3, the game looks very dull in SDR, even in comparison with fake HDR modded ok with Windows AutoHDR, RTX HDR, or Special K.
If something isn't working as it should it deserves criticism. Sure it isn't necessary but doesn't mean should be broken.
Should I play this game on 27 inch 1440p ips+hdr10+4k dldsr monitor ,or on 4k oled 70inch tv +ultra hdr?
Monitor has 160hz but I'm going to lock the fps at 60 so it doesn't matter.
What’s your suggestion for a Z9K tv? Just max out the slider?? In terms of the peak luminance *
I noticed the hdr looked off, but if anyone has a 40 series card use Rtx hdr, it looks much better. I use an rtx 4070 and it’s at most a 5% performance drop.
Don't use RTX HDR (or Windows AutoHDR or Special K) for games with native HDR support. Why? Because those tools are only blowing the SDR picture up to HDR range and do not support proper HDR highlights.
@@NeovanGothIs it better than a native implementation? Of course not, but when developers fuck it up or don’t implement it all( hdr support on pc is in a horrific state) it’s the next best thing.
@@apostolos8734 The point is: Why using RTX HDR when the game's native HDR support can be fixed simply by copying two files into a directory?
I myself used Special K until the unofficial patch was released (which allows to go above 1000 nits), but immediately switched over to native HDR when the patch became available.
That's exactly what I did after I saw the fix on nexusmods, but some people aren't conformable using mods so rtx hdr is a viable solution.
@@apostolos8734 Ok point taken; a DLL could theoretically do malicious stuff. And RTX HDR is admittedly more easy to use than Special K.
PlayStation is still better 💙
No
Sorry man is happened 😂
Simply use RTX HDR. This PC HDR implentations are near allways BS. Tried this Mod, okey its really a bit better then RTX. Highlights are better and Contrast too.
No. I tried it and it does *not* look good. It overbrightens the whole picture including UI elements and does not create proper highlights (as expected for a tool that just blows up the SDR image). The same applies to Windows AutoHDR and Special K. Only use those tools for games without native HDR support that otherwise look too dark and dull.
And if you think "PC HDR implementations are near always BS", learn how to calibrate them properly and how to check the results with Lilium's HDR Analysis for Reshade. The only issue that occurs over and over are raised black levels, which can be an artistic choice and easily fixed using another shader from Lilium's Reshade package.
@@NeovanGothAnd Here BS Starts. I follow this Channel and another since HDR in PC exists. Black Level raised or Peak britghtness falls in near every Game. Yes i know how to calibrate in consoles and PC Win 10 and now better with 11. AutoHDR is absolutely aweful and not right. Why i should use a Tool with ReShade? I used them and i am tiered of this crap. Think about normal Users that doesent now how to use it. RTX HDR ist best so far, but also need knowledge. Nvidia knows the Problem with raised Gamma and will fix it. For those WHO use it, Set max Peak Nits, let middle Nits britghtness on 50, Set Contrast to +25 for Gamma 2.2 or +50 for Gamma 2.4. Saturation in Stock 0 is Not original colors, -50 it is. Have fun.
@@m.m.3753 You still don't get that RTX HDR is for SDR games. It doesn't create real proper mastered HDR like native HDR. This guy on this channel say so himself and it's true.
@@loki76😂😂😂but you get a better HDR than in 95% of all Games in PC with nativ HDR😂😂. Set BS HDR in Games Off and use RTX instead then wait for Patches or solution from Microsoft or Windows 15, maybe in 5 years. Alternativ ist BS ingame-HDR and poor Implementation. Its your choice.
@@loki76 also you can go the Freak Modus and find Out witth lumilus Shader Tools how Bad HDR is and fix it with mods or shaders etc.
Hallo Markus.
The fix is to use RTX HDR.
Big performance drop tho
No, that's not a fix, as it does not provide actual HDR support (it just blows up the SDR picture to HDR range). Same goes for Windows AutoHDR and Special K. You can easily see this, as white UI elements get peak brightness, which is wrong.
@@hristobibov not always, my card doesnt lose any performace, just a bit more input lag
How To Fix HDR On PC? Nvidia RTX HDR!
You can lose from 5fps to 30% performance with RTX HDR + you need to have the application running in the background which isn't optimal for gaming. No thank you.
No. RTX HDR is a way to mod higher brightness and contrast into games without native HDR support. It is not a replacement for _actual_ HDR support. Same goes for Windows AutoHDR and Special K.
Definitely all the games I tested on my PC look better with RTX HDR, including games with native hdr, Forza Horizon 5 is infinitely better with rtx hdr than native hdr, the performance loss is not very significant, I play on the Lg c2

Im only on a 2060S. But all 3 series and 40X was a shitshow as we know. So sadly I need to wait for 50 series!
@@JN-hg5wn Yeah at this point just wait for the 50 series. But you should consider selling your GPU to upgrade every two generations, so your upgrade is huge and doesn't cost that much. Doing it every generation is too expensive and is not that big of an upgrade and doing it every three generation make your GPU too weak for the last generation waiting time.
