Dweezil is brilliant. Not only has he authentically carried the torch of his dad, Frank, but he has proven his own musical worth in the process. He has developed into a superb player and his current band just smokes.
Just a coupla guys hangin' out. This is what makes Jonesy's Jukebox what it is. Steve's always Steve no matter who's in the studio with him. It's great!
Hell yeah! Love Dweezil's playing. Seems like a genuinely cool guy as well. I think it's awesome that he's showcasing his fathers music live. Who better to do it? Steve in usual Quaalude mode even though he's sober LOL quite possibly the most placid interviewer ever. I'm a huge Zappa fan and a huge Pistols fan but Jesus H. Christ it's opposite ends of the spectrum guitar wise. Not that it matters. Both good stuff to crank on the stereo. Anyways...Dweezil rocks. Keep the great guests coming Jonesy!
I always envied Dweezil for the fact that he was exposed to all those great musicians, including his dad as he grew up. FZ would be proud to see his son playing his music and honoring him that way. And that his son turned out to be such a great person and musician! what more could a parent want ? Great show guys ..thank you !!
Seen the D.Z. Plays band in Reno and I was most impressed with the showcasing of each band member in the spotlight, just how professional the band is as a sum of its players, and all that at an under-$40-ticket pricing! I am super satisfied to be that entertained and so glad to have forked over more of my hard earned money for a concert T-shirt. Note to the band: Thank you SO MUCH for playing Reno please come back again soon! Also - keep promoting your tour - it is effective and pays off for sure, I would not have known to go to the show without randomly stumbling on some of these things on RUclips and social media.
Love ya D.Z. and Steve, merry yuletide season! Frank Zappa on Steve Allen 1963 is the best, yes I can play the bicycle and recently wrote a film score.Sound affects,Timeless genius!
I loved Dweezil’s ability to defend his own taste even in the case of the lady Gaga doc where he was like I actually liked it it’s what introduced me, they’re all so easy going I love Jones too ofc. Saw dweezil live on his tour and was so great !
Man you guys are sensitive in the comments below, the interview is not awkward, its just too guys talking, ya'll used to those terrible radio and chat shows nowadays where everyone is super happy and best friends with everyone, that's dream world man. Edit: I came back to this interview 8 months later, and weirdly - it does sound quite awkward to me now at the start anyway.
Nah dude, Steve was being passive aggressive for some reason. Like when he said "that's the big hit is it?". I'm a huge Steve Jones fan and can't stand Zappa's music but Steve was definitely being kind of a jerk to him. I wonder if there is some history there or if Steve doesn't like Zappa's music or if he was just in a bad mood?
He is SO Frank Zappa’s kid. I love how he stands and speaks and speaks up for his own opinions. And articulates, and maintains and thrives in this conversation and I love it. I don’t know Jonsey’s Jukebox up to a few interviews ago but he’s alright, I think he gets off task at times, but perhaps that’s part of the appeal. It’s the way of the Word. In the end, The love you take is equal to the love you make.
Pun2404 I got a couple of Zappa tattoos, and Joe Travers noticed them, and introduced me to Dweezil. His mannerisms were so Frank. That's what I'll always remember about meeting him
🌴 Fkn Steve Jones, riding on a highway, snorting cocaine, sounds like an outtake from Joe's garage , kin classic,, when's all this stuff coming out on bootleg vinyls, RIP Dave Goodmann ✍️🌿
Dweezil is a seriously intelligent, and stellar musician, and Jonesy is a half wit moron, completely bereft of morals or any inkling of musical talent. I actually like his show, but, this guy is definitely on the low rung of the intelligence ladder.
Frank Zappa's final concert is getting released on CD and vinyl and it's being produced by Ahmet Zappa and Joe Travers with NO involvement from Dweezil. To me that's complete bullshit. Dweezil absolutely should've been involved. I love how Joe was in Dweezil's solo band years ago as well as the Z band which was Dweezil on guitar and vocals and Ahmet on vocals and now Joe has nothing to do with Dweezil siding with Ahmet instead. That's underhanded to me. I went to see Joe at The Baked Potato with his band doing a Zappa tribute. Not knowing Joe's issues against and with Dweezil at the time, I wore my TEAM DWEEZIL tshirt I got through a fundraising campaign. After the show Joe saw my shirt and was really upset, letting me know. How was I to know?? My attitude was Dweezil is a ZAPPA and I'm just showing support. I still side with DWEEZIL to this day. Not only is he a great guy but musically speaking, he's incredible.
This feels like some guys hungover uncle rolled out of bed and started asking Dweezil random questions. Like jesus christ, zero energy, zero research into who Dweezil even is.
Steve really making himself look like a fool in this interview Dweezil is a very smart guy and the interview is a little uncomfortable which is unfortunate because Dweezil has a lot of great stories Steve I'm a supporter and I watch most of these interviews that you do but please do more homework about the guests that you're interviewing these guys are 10 times the superstar that you'll ever be and I'm not slyting you that's just the facts ! And don't be ignorant go to the 3-hour show that he's performing and I'm almost confident you'll be blown away
Dweezil Zappa is "ten times the superstar" that Jones is? Steve isn't a "superstar" but Dweezil for damn sure isn't. I agree Steve was a bit rude but come on dude. Dweezil is barely known to the general public and I doubt he's ever made anything close to NMTB as far as influence and prestige goes. NMTB is always ranked as one of the greatest rock albums of all time. The only thing I know by DZ is the Ben Stiller Show theme song.
Yeah, I gotta chime in on the "10 times the Superstar" idea too. Lets see: Steve Jones is in the Rock N' Roll Hall of Fame. Dweezil, not. Sure his dad is, but that doesn't count to Dweezil's ledger. Steve Jones has a platinum album in the US, which was also multi platinum in the UK. Dweezil, to my knowledge, does not. Steve Jones, not Dweezil, had a song go to #2 on the UK pop charts ("God save the Queen"). Steve Jones has inspired many thousands of guitarists to play. Dweezil hasn't (again, we can't give him credit for his dad's work). For the record, I enjoyed the interview, but this is literally the only context that I would find DZ interesting in. Steve should NOT research his guests, there are plenty of faceless and similar-to-one-another "pro" interviewers who do that. Steve is a "punk" DJ just as he is a punk guitarists, and his healthy sized audience can attest to the fact that we like that fine. Finally, while I admire DZ's talent, he was a bit of a lame participant in this jam session. Look at (Frank's former bandmate) Steve Vai's visit with Jonesy to see how fluid such an endeavor can be.
Steve grew up on the streets of London. He was hustler street thug, who miraculously was in one of the most influential bands of all time. Hes not an academic, private school guy.
you know the damn family should be proud that dweezil carries on franks legacy of music,, like its pretty fucking pathetic if u ask me, money and or whatever the issue
Yeah, I don't like Zappa's music and he's boring in this interview. Steve was definitely being a bit hard on the guy too. I made it about halfway through before I had to turn it off.
Dweezil, Moon Unit, Zowie, River - proof positive the drugs weren't stepped on back in the day Btw Gaga set Julian Assange up Peace and love humans if you can find it
Frank didn't write the heart on your sleeve type of songs Ha Ha! Frank certainly wrote things that made you think and he certainly didn't have any problems pointing out Naive and stupid people and or stupid situations.
FZ was a giant on par w/ Mingus, Ellington or Monk as a composer and a unique highly influential guitarist. Dweezil is great student of FZ, and a fantastically gifted and hard working guitarist (not the composer his dad was...no one is). Jonsey is cool and the Pistols had a great moment, but in terms of skills knowledge and ability, these guys are light years apart. Dweezil tolerates this gap way more than his dad would have.
its so cool to see how passionate and proud he is about his dad, and his dad's music.
The first question and I'm already dying lol. D. Zappa: 'That Lady Gaga documentary was great!"
S. Jones: "Ugh, it was awful!" 🤣
Dweezil is brilliant. Not only has he authentically carried the torch of his dad, Frank, but he has proven his own musical worth in the process. He has developed into a superb player and his current band just smokes.
confessions is such a great album
Dweezil has the best band going. Down too earth and great musicians. Music is the BEST!
nah, Phish is MUCH better and I've seen an awful lot of ZPZ shows. Sheila and the drummer are badasses tho, for sure.
@@IgnatiusChinaski Nobody asked.
Couldn't imagine that I'd ever in my life would see Dweezil jamming with Steve Jones... This is just wonderful!
thanks for this Jonesy. hearing about Frank Directly from his son is priceless to me =)
Saw Zappa in largo,MD 1977 and it was one of the best concerts I ever went to
That's a fact: Dweezil is awesome! So nice and positive - and a very good musician! Thanx Jonesy to have Dweezil
thank you Dweezil for sharing!!!
EXCELLENT!!!😎👍
Just a coupla guys hangin' out. This is what makes Jonesy's Jukebox what it is. Steve's always Steve no matter who's in the studio with him. It's great!
I like the fact that jonesy is putting him through his paces , seeing how free he is of musical snobbery ..he comes out lookin good

Could sit with Dweezil for hours an talk music esp. his dad's.. great interview

Dweezil is awesome.
"Baby I'm a want you" LOL This was great.
Love the Tshirt Jonesy.
@Maxine Twaters David & Mick
@Maxine Twaters Randy did base his look on Mick Ronson's look
Ronson influenced Randy a lot, you can hear certain tones and effects in his playing with Ozzy that sound very Mick Ronson, aswell as the looks
Love the way you present his music, I actually enjoy more and this is coming from someone who saw your dad play live a number of times.
Seen the D.Z. so much love for this guy i have seen him and his dad many times keeping his dads legacy one of the greatest artists of the 20th century x
agreed the interviewer is a knob
I saw Dweezil's show a few years ago ,it's a great evening.
Dweezil is a class act. Period. Articulate, kind and handsome as fuck.
He really is ridiculously handsome!
dweez your great
This was great. I'm a fan of skilled people, whether they are presenting in a prepared manner or riffing.
I always liked Dweezil, loved the jam at the end, it was hilarious.

Dweez & Jonesy searching for "The Chord With No Name".Gotta love it.
The Bread cover was bloody funny! Respect.....both you guys reside in my "hero' list.....great to see both hanging out!
I generally don't like when bands do cover songs, but Dweezil does such a gr8 job of covering his late dad's masterpieces!👍
Nice t shirt, gotta love Mick Ronson. What a player
Interesting, strange, weird and beutifull, Thankyou Steve and Dweezil
Awesome
It's hard to believe Dweezil is 50 years old......I remember seeing film footage of baby Dweezil taking a sink bath
Classic !
Nice piece..
OMG please release the song "Ridin' on the highway" at 38:00 !!!! OMG !!!!
What a feat of strength to be interviewed by that guy.
Jonesy's so laid back these days he almost seems to be passive aggressive sometimes. I'm sure he's just chilled out.
ZAPPA 4 LIFE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
That juice is a new song!
Those jams sounded great to me
i've seen every incarnation of ZPZ dating back to 2006 at least once. i love zappa plays zappa.
DWEEZIL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
When is Dweezil gonna do Joe Rogan's podcast?
I don't know the episode number but Dweezil was on JRE during the dust-up with his family.
Well there you go
18:24 holy shit priceless!!!!
Looks like J tried to put DZ on the spot ...lol Dweezil to smart for that!
Dweezil didn't look entirely comfortable at the beginning but when the guitars came out it all came together beautifully....
And Jonesy's chord, I believe, is F B G B C#, which is a G7b5 - very jazzy!
How you doing these days Jonesy?
Wow! His guitar playing sounds better than ever! He's developed into a very tasty guitar player!
Christopher Grant dweezil is good too
If you get a chance to see one of his shows, go. Three hours of amazing music and virtuoso guitar..
he kept quiet about his family stopping him plundering his dads gold
That was pretty funny at times - made me laugh
Pretty cool little Joker laugh

there's definitely some Ian Dury in that bit about snorting C
That coke song from Jonesy, I thought frank was in the room, his humour,
This interview was uncomfortable until they broke out the axes.
Great level headed guy
HE'S VERY ARTICULATE
Steve kinda got on like Michael Barrymore on Strike it Lucky on parts of this.
Yep & Dweezil takes himself too seriously. Had he never listened to Jones excellent show & style before?
I love how Jonesy can’t remeber the specs on his Gibson Steve Jones model lol
total twat

Muffin Man should be the National anthem.
Not much of a chemistry between them. Perhaps if Eddie Van Halen was chatting up Dweezil...
There was chemistry late in the interview, i think that Jonesy changed his attitude when they started playing.
What ? Did you want them to make out !? 🙄
You obviously didn’t watch until the end. Also, Eddie Van Halen is dead.
