I am kind of bored to ear that a short scale bass is for people who are small, have small hands, whatever. Short scales bass are great for everyone, no exception. They sound great, feel great, play great and are as much as a bass as regular scales ones.
My post can sound harsh, it is not the goal, it is simply because I think that short scale bass should not be regarded as "alternatives" but as regular bass.
Neko T Agreed. It's like this perception that a cheap price means it's for beginners. If that attitude were carried into other types of products, would that "logic" hold up? I don't think so. Would a lower priced car be for "beginning" drivers? Would cheap clothing be for people who are new to wearing clothes?
Agreed. Great bassists like Paul McCartney, Bill Wyman, Jack Bruce, Stanley Clarke, Nicolas Godin, etc., all played -- or still play -- short scale basses.
I love short scale basses! I play punk rock, rock n’roll, hard rock and i love this kind of bass. Love p bass, i’d like to try this Bronco.. maybe it will surprise me!
I agree with you. I have a Chinese '54 P bass and a Squier Bronco. Both are using the same Strat pickup (It had a Musicmaster pickup rather than SCPB), similar bridges, etc. Both sound similar, but there are some songs that I play on a short scale, and some on a long scale. I can move faster on the Bronco than the '54 clone.
I heard the lindseed oil is a pretty permanent look after it soaks in usually used on rosewood if I'm not mistaken some people love it others don't I never coated one before but I have stained and laquered one and it was nice
I used to think Squier's we're only good for boat paddles, but they have REALLY stepped up their quality on the Vintage Modified & Classic Vibe lines. I recently tried a Squier Jaguar bass at Guitar Center & was pleasantly surprised by it.
I've owned 8 squier guitars and bass guitars never had a problem with any of them they play and sound like a mid priced guitar it's only when I go off and buy a no name product I have problems squier is really good imo and will always recommend a Squier to a beginner or
I have a about 17 basses in my collection. I LOVE good inexpensive basses. My Squir Bronco is the best of the best for &150! I modified mine to make it look different, but all the electronics and hardware is the same, ALTHOUGH, I did change the paddles on the tuners to clorver style, but the actual tuning gears are the original
I replaced the stock pickup with a Fender SCN Six Pole Strat pickup from an American Strat and it sounds pretty great. My only problem is that the low E kind of loses energy compared to notes on the other strings. Stays in tune, sounds good with all kinds of amps and is handy for tracking bass lines in my home demo studio. Worth getting, absolutely.
Did you use a Neck position pickup, one with level pole pieces that duplicates the stock part? The staggered poles from the middle or bridge might cause sound issues. Otherwise, I'd say raise the pickup a little more near the low E side... I agree, great bass, neck and balance are terrific!
It took me a lot of setup work. A lot of work on the nut, especially. And you really need to take into account what strings you use,. From there, you can follow all of the usual principles for setup, taking into account the relative and peak breadth of each string's resonance. I ultimately use it now with foam at the bridge, that i have adjusted to maximize an evenness of response betrwwen strings. What I am trying to say is, try out a short scale in a shop, and if you like how light and easy this one is, then you can decide whether to put the work into this one, or just buy a better one.
Is it comfortable to carry? I mean, what is the exact weight of a bronco bass? Thanks for your answer .. I’m planning to buy one this coming Christmas ..
@@Irah9027 It's fairly comfortable, the neck is great but the body doesn't have any ergonomic cuts for the arm to rest on or for the player's body to lean against. As for the weight I'm not sure but it's probably around 8 pounds.
@@Irah9027 I've never played a Cort Action bass so I have no real opinion. If you like to play in the higher register and want more tonal variety the Action bass would probably be a better choice. If you like short scale necks and simple electronics the Bronco would probably be a better option.
I'm a relatively good bassist. Played for many years. Been very "snobbish" about bass guitars. I looked down on short scale basses and thought that real bass players naturally play long scale. I've had problems with my (old) hands and tried short scale bass....a Danelectro Longhorn which I now own. Also others...Gibson EB 3 for example. I take back everything I said about short scale bass guitars. Sounds fantastic. Short scale are real basses in their own right. I wish I understood that earlier! The good news is that these days short scales have become more accepted by professionals. New models are made by several fine brands.
Seymour duncun scpb 1, scpb2, scpb3, antiquity and antiquity 2, lindy fralin 51 p bass single coil, true custom shop quarter pounder 51. All these can be used.
I’m transitioning into bass from guitar and I’m thinking about getting this one cuz I honestly haven’t seen so many great reviews about a bass except for this one. Any other tips for finding a new cheap bass or just tips for playing bass?
Good sound, naice play, but it's NOT demo sounds. That's why this bass has a replacement pickup. I'm sorry but I'm Japanese and not good at English so can't catch all of explanations.
You don't need to replace pickups. I got one a year ago, and used Fender strings with it. Today I changed strings to Ernie Ball Super Slinkys and it sounds like this demo.
Great sounding bass! Did you tried it with low tunings? D for example, a whole step down all strings? I really like the size and feel of that neck but I'm worried about down-tuning it and can't tune it or that the strings ends up very flobby... what do you think? a heavier gauge could do the trick? thank you in advance!
C# is about where you start severely losing definition. I use 110-55 strings to combat this but if you're tuning lower you absolutely need thicker than that.
It wouldn't sound half this good if the stock pickups were in it. But it has a hot rail humbucker. The original pickup is a ordinary single coil Strat pickup.
Looks like a Hot Rails knockoff, actually. The actual thing has two "lobes", one around each rail. I've seen some China stuff that is just like the one in this bass. Bronco with actual Hot Rails: www.jimbriggsmusic.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/05/bass3.jpg
Just ordered two, one in shell pink and the other in red. I'll change everything on the red one. The shell pink one is market speculation. Won't be played.
Do short scale basses use different size strings than full sizes? And If so, does a reliable seller like Ernie Ball sell smaller sized strings like this?
Sounds pretty good. Your plucking fingers do not need a 4” head start to smack into the strings to get a good sound though. If you really lighten up with it you can play much longer, faster and your hands and wrists will be grateful.
It's just different style, you can get some cool clanky, percussive tones if you attack harder. Especially with a little distortion. Of course a light touch is just as valid but it really boils down to the situation and what kind of tone you're looking for.
Zax Zumu I don’t believe so. The neck pocket on mustang-shape basses are quite thin (from what I’ve read). I can only assume that, like me, you’re also hoping to get a maple fretboard on a jag bass.
Wow, why is this bass so cheap in de US? :o here in Germany you barely can get one used for 150€ (160$). I paid 180€ (192$) for mine, but with all the mods i wanted to do anyway :) Mine got a Seymour Duncan Hotrail in it. Maybe yours got one as well.
I bought mine used for $150. It was like new, with a $100 amp, two cables, gig bag and stand. The plastic was still on the pick guard. People get them, never use them and turn them over. It's easy to find one.

Putting a hot rails in the Bronco is pretty common - the original pickup is a cheap 6-pole strat pickup.
That might be a DiMarzio Fast Track with a pickup cover
It could be a Cool Rail or even the $12 MusicLily rail on Amazon.
I love the stock pickup although like any single coil it's louder interference at higher vol
I heard the lindseed oil is a pretty permanent look after it soaks in usually used on rosewood if I'm not mistaken some people love it others don't I never coated one before but I have stained and laquered one and it was nice
it ended up intonating ok for me if those two saddles didn't cut it I would have opted for at least 4 saddles might fit the stock bridge plate
That's one mean sounding bronco bass sounds really similar to this old 78 Fender Musicmaster bass I used to own.
It’s a cheaper replica

I agree with the others. Looks like the pickup was changed to a humbucker
its actually a hot rail. hum buckers are the thicker pickups. some look like two single coils put together
Its actually a humbucker in a single coil size. Thats what double rail pickups are

FYI 51P pickup poles do not align with Bronco string spacing.
THX four the recommendation, great Job, keep it 1AP :)
That was surprisingly amazing! Your skills obviously help, but that's some deadly tones from a cheap, cheap, cheap bass!

Yeah for shorter scale basses/guitars heavier gauge strings are the way to go for tuning stability in drop tunings
C# is about where you start severely losing definition. I use 110-55 strings to combat this but if you're tuning lower you absolutely need thicker than that.
What best strings...and right guages for this bass? I bought a s bronco bass (used) but the stock strings are already exhausted...
Hi. Whats the brand of strings that you are using? Thanks
Nice demo man ! Why your bronco do have a finger older ??? did you put on extra ? where did you buy it ? Thanks
To anyone who says short scale shouldn't have been the standard (because of string tension), two words:
Thicker strings. 😊
Lovely bass. Good stuff dude. Holy shit 60$? Sick sound for that price man.
It wouldn't sound half this good if the stock pickups were in it.
But it has a hot rail humbucker.
The original pickup is a ordinary single coil Strat pickup.
What gauge strings did you use on that thing?
Stock are .040-.095.
great clip, what strings are you using here, great all around tone, thx
What kind of strings did you use?
I picked up a twin rail humbucker on Amazon for $12, on the strength of this video.
Sorry for the question.
But.... What is the model complet of this bass?

I think it’s a dimarzio fast track
You run your bass signal into some sort of digital amp sim in your daw for these demos, right?
- Line 6 Toneport UX2
That's an audio interface, not an amp sim or anything that really colors the sound.
you can use line 6 plugins
Do short scale basses use different size strings than full sizes? And If so, does a reliable seller like Ernie Ball sell smaller sized strings like this?
MusicMan I’m my experience you’d want to go thicker on strings to compensate
I use a regular D. Markley strings on my short scale bass.. Eko Kiwi '78 (Les Paul bass made in Italy )
I use LaBella 760FM-S Short Scale Deep Talkin' Bass Guitar Strings
Cool 👍 Would be nice for a gig outside with friends for example
