Big bore two strokes are known for kicking back, I have own a lot of them over the years. I have learned a few things. If a bike kicks back then it is not rich enough to start.it could theseseveral things that can cause this. It could be too lean of a pilot jet but it could ba that the float is set too high so it is sucking air through the pilot also the slide is set too high allowing too much air in when your starting the bikes, this is a lot more common than most realize. On my Maico's it comes with a compression release in the cylinder to reduce the compression while your starting it. High compression bikes are really hard on kickstarters and such. These bike are animals on to them selves so if you work on them you need to be aware of the difference. when I start my big bore. I turn the gas on, put the choke on, put the bike in gear, open the throttle and rock the bike back and forth a few times before i even try to start the bike. this should reduce the kick back. don't be timid with it, the last thing I would say is that it is not brute force that starts these bikes but speed, brute force only breaks things, ask me how I know? best of luck and welcome to the world of big bore bikes
Don't run anything less then 110 in that thing. If he was running 110 it was definitely recommend to do so after the rebuild. With that compression that high it will definitely gain some good power from 110 as well!!! I guarantee you will get some serious detonation damage from even 91 octane!
I just ordered an electric starter kit for my 87 Quadzilla. I'm 52 and it's tough on me starting it. So glad someone finally makes a bolt on electric starter now. Actually ordered 2 kits. One for my 97 CR500 also. Going to enjoy riding alot more now.
Gotta rubber mount the bars in the steering stem and get weights for the inner bar ends. It's a 500 it's going to vibrate the poop out of your hands. Otherwise that thing is a monster !
There’s nothing like the exhaust note of a well tuned two stroke. It’s the sound of raw power, there’s no mistaking it. You can hear the sound from a mile away, literally. Braap, braap, braap!
That thing is sick! Glad there is now a big bore 2 stroke 500 rip your house of the foundation beast living in your garage, can't wait for the first ride.
Dont trust that gasoline man! The bike didnt have ONE puff of smoke. The owner was a racer and probably mixed a 75:1 ratio or something wild to get more hp. I run everything 32:1, so if I turn around and rev I need to see smoke coming out. If I dont see smoke im cutting the bike OFF. Thats just my tuning method.
Well technically you would want to run a richer mix for racing (32:1) because your always on the gas and no lugging, for trails you would want to run leaner like (44:1) or (40:1) because your not on the pipe as much and with leaner mixes on trails you won’t fouls plugs
When you solder put some solder on the iron then hold it to the wire and put solder onto the wire it should melt and run into the wires when it's hot enough basically use the solder on the iron to transfer heat then feed solder into the wires will make a better connection they call it a dry joint when you just smear it on the outside love your channel man hope this helps you in the future 👍
If you are attempting a start on any big bore 2-stroke, do yourself a favor and get it on compression then boot it through hard and immediately lift your foot OFF the kickstarter and let it return to the top. Should light right off without too much trouble. If you leave your foot down after kicking it through, yes, you WILL be susceptible to any kick back from the engine. Bada$$ rig!
Love those 500s. I had a quadzilla and a CR 500. By the time I got them started I was too tired to ride them. Love that sound. Mean as it gets. Nice purchase. God bless.
Joe , more often than not when replacing those mechanical seals , they can get messed up fairly easy. That seal has to be pushed evenly on the shaft side and the metal sleeve side otherwise it will stretch the spring , and or rip the diaphragm ever so slightly . Replace both and take ur time when pushing it back in and u will be good to go sir.
My father left me an old Yz 490 and it was the hardest bike I ever had to start! I traded it after years of riding it for a yz 426 that had a compression clutch and man they were like daylight and dark when it came to everything about them! The old 490 was a screamin demon way faster but the 426 was way easier to start and also wasn’t a 2stroke like the 490. I rebuilt the 490 four times but never had to rebuild the 426 so there was pros and cons in both
Put it in 3rd gear and rock it forrward a few times to where it pulls fuel into cylinder. Usually start first kick. My dad has a LT 250 with the Zilla engine. Still recommend the boot regardless..
Bro. Sickzilla! I cannot believe you didn’t open the garage door. Two smokers for Life! Glad you guys talked it out. You sounded negative and assumed it was cut up. The seller knowing how good it actually was, I would’ve been prompted to get the full 5k!

I had an 88 CR500R , and the easiest way to start it on cold start was TDC ,choke and WOT and always started on first few kicks , freakin thing was a Monster
Need to adjust the timing to make starting it easier. Do your research. If it's high compression definitely need to stick with the high octane fuel as well...works dual rate shocks without rezeviours...
Kind of a weird hybrid, a banshee doesn’t handle good so you put a different engine in it. And the banshee will make more power modified then the 500 will. Maybe a 500 in a 250r frame, or banshee engine in a 250r frame 🧐

With the water pump seals don’t waste your time just buy all new seals and most importantly a new shaft as they wear a lot and the new seals will just leak
I installed brand new mechanical water pump seal on my RMK 700 and I pounded in a bit to much and it broke... Then i did it again with grease on the shaft and pounded it in using less force and everthing was ok ! No more leaking !
