@@ahmedabdikadirabdi113 Yes, it's not easy to make great content like our dear BTY, but I'm learning and improving with every video and that is the most important thing!
One thing that wasn't mentioned in this video is Motivation. To break any addiction you need to have a strong WHY. That means reminding yourself consistently of what you gain by eliminating that bad habit. Without a strong reason you'll, most probably, have mixed feelings about stopping addiction. On the one hand, you really want a better free life without addiction, but on the other - you still have a strong neuro-association between your addiction and pleasure. That is extremely hard to break without a burning desire to change it once and for all.
Yeah, and also I would say that doing hard and painful things by itself isn't helpful. There's always WHY behind any challenge. Anyway, great message and thanks for the video!
@@BetterThanYesterday something i don't understand. If you replace your bad addiction by a good addiction (something that makes your life better) but then you are craving more and more for your good addiction, hence releasing more and more dopamine so in the end, your dopamine level will go down again and you will get less pleasure from your good addiction but nevermind you will keep doing it because you need more dopamine. Is that a problem ? doing something repetitively like a robot but that thing is actually good for your life ? If it's a problem, then what to do ?
1. Find the trigger and avoid it. 2. One month of time to break addition. 3. Create a barrier to the trigger by changing the environment. 4. Do something difficult instead.
What a great video!!! I transformed my life and quit my addiction at the end of August. I slowly introduced new, healthy, productive habits at that time and now, in December, they are second nature to me. I truly look forward to cooking, eating, working out, seeing friends, and being social. You nailed it. I also have that Dopamine Nation book. It took years of trial and error, but I am so proud of myself today. We all have our own paths. Amazing video. Thank you
Sugar, TV, video games, alcohol, porn, drugs, romance, stimulation, looking good, fulfilling expectations, the multitude of fears, and the multitude of fear-based desires.. I mean, just imagine the toll these things can take on a person's life over a few decades. People, we're lucky to be here listening to these kinds of videos. Be grateful for what you still have, because at the very least you have a bunch of opportunities ahead of you - if you are so fortunate to have the device and the internet to read this. Good luck ahead! P.S. For those searching for a really powerful path up this mountain, I gotta suggest a book of practice that I've been using for several years now. It's free online and it's incredibly powerful. It's called _Steps to Knowledge - The Book of Inner Knowing_
This video is a perfect summary to tackle any addiction. Being caught in a negative spiral myself right now, it came out at just the right time. Thank you very much!
Hang in there! I actually started to work on my addiction(s... plural) roughly one month ago, after I saw a video from the Andrew Huberman channel, where he interviewed Dr. Anna Lembke herself (the author of the book mentioned in this excellent video). First it was alcohol addiction: now past the 30 days mark and feeling surprisingly well. Some little occasional cravings still, but MASSIVELY more manageable than they were in the first couple weeks. Then it was sugar addiction: eliminated it completely (with the only exception of natural sugar that you might find in fruit). Roughly two weeks in, and same: first couple of weeks pretty full of cravings, now starting to feel pretty on the level. I have other addictions I'm gonna adress down the line, such as nicotine and (yes) internet browsing, but I'm feeling extremely confident because by now I can tell, empirically, that the method presented by Better Than Yesterday in this video, actually *works*. So here: I send you positive energy, and a good measure of encouragement, because I can tell that even if the first couple weeks might be hard, it *will* get easier and you will feel amazing, after a while!
@@alphamorion4314 Thank you very much for your kind and encouraging words! I am working on overcoming my internet / digital addiction at the moment. I was able to overcome it in the past as described in the video, but unfortunately fell off the wagon. Good luck with your battle and congratulations to everything you have achieved so far!

This is one of the channels that gave me the courage to start my RUclips channel 3 months ago about self development. Now I have 246 subs and almost > 95 hours of watch time. I know it’s not comparable with others but I’m still proud I started because I’ve been learning so many lessons that I couldn’t have learned without getting started in the 1st place.
I genuinely think this video is even better than your original Dopamine Detox video because, to truly make change, the 30 days seems like it will be more impactful than just one day. With this video, you struck the problems at the heart, showed what truly are the issues and then gave the harsh truth as to how to solve them. I’m going to begin my journey today giving this a try and hopefully things go well.

I'm addicted to porn, junk food and internet. These things may not seem bad to society but they've destroyed my life and health. I've been working on it, I'm slowly starting to eat cleaner, I still struggle with porn at times, ive uninstalled distracting apps, I try to spend my time online focusing on making self improvement videos for my RUclips channel, I've been doing great at that lately without getting distracted, releasing so many videos, I'm finally defeating my internet addiction and using it in a productive manner, instead of being on TikTok or RUclips shorts or social media
Music is my drug. Like, I can spent hours doing nothing but listen to music, and before I know it it's night time. I'm going to take this opportunity to better myself with your advices. See you in 1 month !
Your timing for posting couldn't have been better for me. I really love your videos. They really break down dense concepts in an easy to understand and offer solutions that are actionable. Starting my social media abstinence plan now. I feel really hopeful! Thank you so much for this and for all your videos!
My main habit in life is “learn something new everyday”. So this channel really motivates me. Even channel’s name says itself :) And in the videos he simplifies certain situations or things with animations/drawings so I don’t lose my attention. Plus I play video games all the time so I feel like I know how he feels in some ways. Thank you ! please KEEP GOING ❤️
Great video! Overcoming addiction is a painful and challenging process, especially when you become aware of it. The feeling of powerlessness that comes from realizing you're stuck in a loop and can't get out through sheer willpower alone is crippling, but always remember that awareness is the first step towards control. Know the thruth and it shall set you free.
I've been incrementally eliminating my big dopamine sources for the month of December, keeping off my phone has been the hardest one, but I've been leaving it turned off and stored in my kitchen cupboard while working during the day
Please do not quit RUclips maybe if possible just one video a month or every other month for video uploads. Your videos are unique and benefit so many people! Thank you for your time and effort spent on making these wonderful videos, I learned something today!
This video has really helped me a lot. I have been reducing my screen time to 1 hour a day and it has changed my life. I have became more productive and I am sure at the end of the month I will be a totally different person.
I'm a gamer. I played games all day. It seemed to me that I would not be able to give it up, but then I decided to give it a try. Well, it's been a second week since I haven't played any game. It's strange, but I don't suffer, on the contrary, I just got a lot better. It's nice to realize that I'm not a drug addict
Geez. I feel like I’d really struggle to go without playing video games for a month. I love video games a lot and don’t think I’ll ever stop because I genuinely enjoy games a lot. But it’s true that the more I play, the less I enjoy my time playing. Taking such a substantial break might help me break the addiction, get caught up on other work, and make playing the games I love actually fun again.
As Dr.Gary Wilson said, sobriety will not make the super highway (between the nerves) disappear, but will build a weed over it (weaken), but the return to addictive behavior will lead to the return of addiction completely
The amount of work and dedication you put into that video are immense. Thank you very much for sharing that knowledge. The fact that when you understand the mechanics of dopamin and habits could help you improve yourself greatly, especially when I understood the example of that snowy mountain and it is an image that I can recall when I see myself drowning into addiction, it's a power that helps me to pull me off out of those bad habits. Hope to see these kind of videos soon, you're awesome and keep up the good work.

Super insightful, i also like that the premise of the video was dopamine reliance and with this in consideration, watching a boring video would presumably mean that that target audience would not get on board with making it to the end. With the doodle artwork and easy to consider methodology someone like a myself who is maaaybe, a dopamine addict get the useful information without leaving the video prior to getting the "help" or boost i need to do something about it. Genuinely enjoyed the considerations i have made about myself throughout this video, thank you and I'm going to change my habits and reduce the integrity of some Neurotransmitters starting right now haha.
I love your videos, but I feel like it's important to point something out. It takes only one month to change your life if you are neurotypical, but it takes about 3 months (93 days) if you are neuroatypical. I just wanted to share that. Your videos are amazing and very helpful. You also have such a calming voice. Keep up the good work.

This approach seems too extreme for me (and perhaps for others as well). I'm convinced that even minor adjustments can lead to big changes. For example, simply turning my phone face-down on my desk or putting it in a drawer does the job. It's still accessible, but the slight inconvenience makes me less likely to reach for it mindlessly. My solution: introduce a bit of friction between yourself and your temptations 😉 Anyway thanks for this channel. I really like it 🙂
Such a great video...but you make amazing videos in general. Thanks for taking the time to research subjects like this and providing us a path to solving them. Stay awesome!
True!! I find while indulging in an activity that is not for my highest good I than sustain fron the activities than are health mentally, physically, and spiritually.
This is really sad but about 10 years ago I was addicted to McDonald's, I would have it breakfast, lunch, dinner and if I missed one I would feel like something was wrong with me 😓😅. I believe people now when they say junk food/fast food can be as addicting as drugs. It took me just over a month to slowly start weaning myself off it -not proud of it but now I dont really miss it 🙂 xx
I just put the following on your two year old dopamine vid. Thank you. "Out of everything, this is by far the most helpful (and only) relevant thing to me. Thanks, I know how to live again. If I was rich I'd hit you hard but I am older and on limited income. I'll sub and like every video"
I always go through phases where I “change my life around”, develop some great habits, learn stuff, read a lot, etc…but eventually I realize that nothing is ACTUALLY changing, it’s all in my head, so I eventually just get back to square one again.
Maybe changing things in your head was a good thing, and you just needed to find a new direction / location/ purpose after that? I hope things got better.
Thank you for great video. I am a RUclips addicted and tried several times but could not resist. So let me try with these techniques I started from today. I will update weekly at 5pm so I am actually doing it or not. See you next week 14th December 5pm. If anyone is going to join me feel free.

How's it going? No rush to reply if you're deliberately reducing your comment activity. For me commenting is the most compulsive & problematic part of my youtube use. (Specifically commenting a ton about menial things I don't really want replies from &/or getting into arguments ... I don't count constructive discourse like this lol)
@@ItsAsparageese Oh hi, it has been going good but I had some bad days as well. I have put a plan for me weekly to complete and I am going to share my achievement after completing the whole plan which is designed for 2 months. and I can say that one of the best thing which I did was deleting RUclips app from my phone. when I need it i use it by browser and it is very inconvenient and I am not staying long. How to delete youtube video is on RUclips because I did not know it is possible to delete it before.
The ideal about the balance between pleasure and pain is great. Sometime we just want to enjoy life and admit ourself that is no problem. But after that pleasure we lose the balance and feel anxious. So doing something hard everyday and get the pleasure after that might work.
Thank you so much for that, I do have to admit that Christmas period gives room to amplify addictions, for me it's shopping, overeating, watching tv. Christmas time allows being fully on the pleasure side of things, it's good to be reminded that lack of control over comfort is not good and I loved your suggestion that the best way to achieve dopamine increase is through doing difficult things, very interesting, thank you!

I was addicted to social media because seeing others accomplish my dreams made me feel as if I had accomplish them
I'm addicted to success 💎💎💎 used to be drugs and poor decisions. Life's changed for sure. And continuously getting better.
Plus I'll die without my phone 🤣
I love your videos, but I feel like it's important to point something out. It takes only one month to change your life if you are neurotypical, but it takes about 3 months (93 days) if you are neuroatypical. I just wanted to share that.
Your videos are amazing and very helpful. You also have such a calming voice. Keep up the good work.
You mean neurodivergent?
Really really good advice! Great job. I've been in addiction field for a while now, and everything in this video is very precise, to the point, practical, and wise. Thank you for putting this together. I will show this at group meetings God willing
Yay!!!! Finally you posted 😍
Thank you so much, sir. Hats off to you. You're the kind of person who experiences the matter before suggesting it to others. I'm still struggling with my addictions but I'm not giving up. Inshaallah I'll overcome my addictions soon. And Inshaallah I'll meet with you one day. Best wishes...
Mashallah brother.
Thank you for sharing your thoughtful content…for putting it out there with the passion that many of us need and strive for. I'm starting to listen to you
almost every morning. Your voice and words feels real and genuine.
I am grateful to have your channel as a source for having a better relationship with myself and the world around me.❤️❤️
"Let's be honest: we're all lazy to some extent, and there's nothing wrong with that. It's natural."
Thank God.
*closes video and continues to do nothing for the next 50 years*
Finally the acknowledgement we needed
Good to see you back
Your pronunciation of "synapse" is killing me lol but I love this video! I finally have a step-by-step to helping me limit my social media addiction :) thank you!
I really like it 🙂
Wow! Welcome back! Glad to see a new video from you! 😃
This is one of the life-changing videos. Thank you ❤
I practiced guitar for a 3 years every day for 5 hours. Observe my progress🚀
Great!
Such a great video...but you make amazing videos in general. Thanks for taking the time to research subjects like this and providing us a path to solving them. Stay awesome!
Glad you got something out of them 😁
True!! I find while indulging in an activity that is not for my highest good I than sustain fron the activities than are health mentally, physically, and spiritually.
Thank you from France ! Your vidéo have realy help me to change my life ! Once again from the bottom of my heart thank you ❤️
Thank you for this video. I am impressed that you are so humble to admit your own addiction.
I'll sub and like every video"
just epic already can see how much hardwork you have put in this vedio
Thanks for uploading these videos. You help us all so much.
Thanks, it is great to reach about dopamine and you're doing well !
I like his voice. It sounds sweet and soothing at the same time.
I hope things got better.
i thought u stoped uploading, good to see u back
Thank you for great video.
I am a RUclips addicted and tried several times but could not resist.
So let me try with these techniques
I started from today. I will update weekly at 5pm so I am actually doing it or not.
See you next week 14th December 5pm. If anyone is going to join me feel free.
It has been fun week. The first 3 days went really well but the last 3 days was a bit difficult and I failed sometimes but managed to stop myself. Progress is not perfect but not bad as well. Hope to see you see you next week at 5pm.
I dont know what to say, what a great video! Thanks for making this video, Better Than Yesterday team. This help me so much!!
I lost a bet and I had to get off my video games for 5 hours, I think it was the hardest challenge I ever done
I’ve watched many videos about self help but this one’s different! Facts involved.
Thank you so much for making this video 👍
The scale is an amazing metaphor and visual analogy
This is what RUclips is really for.
Loved your video and strategy to end an addiction.❤
Incredibly useful info 🔥
Really love the concept. Very informative video!
Thank you for putting forward these wonderful and useful ideas, even the channel name is very inspiring
This is part in a life process,we watch videos for change nd really we don't change completely.we change only something from addiction
I shit you not. I’m here using the restroom…listening to this video and you’re calling out all the different types of things we can be addicted to.
I was waiting for you to take video games, but instead you SPECIFICALLY said RuneScape which I burst out with a laugh because I was loading up the OSRS Mobile client at the same time 😂😂😂
Gotta get that xp 🤣
@@BetterThanYesterday yes! Lol the only “good news” is that in the last 5 years I’ve played a combined total of maybe 20 hours of RS. I force myself to stay F2P - keeps me from spiraling and spending to much time on it.
Thank you so much for this video, I’ll try it and have an amazing day y’all. We got this! ❤
Plz upload videos frequent. Your videos are very usefull
Excellent video! Thank you for posting.
Thank you so much for this video, it was very informational and I needed this. I found your channel a few days ago and I love it already❤
Yeah, I've been using FocusMe for about 2 years as well, it certainly helped a lot. But be wary of the rules you set to not lock yourself out for during important dates :)
Hey there! Thanks for sharing your feedback! Glad to know that our app has been helping you a lot and thank you for being a part of the FocusMe fam for 2 years now! As always, we're just here in case anyone needs help setting it up. 😊
