I've had sleep struggles for most of my adult life and the biggest helpers have been getting therapy and meds to treat my anxiety and depression. I used to wake up at 3-4am with my heart pounding and mind racing because I was under a lot of stress. But therapy and anti-depressants have really helped. Also, weed gummies with melatonin have been a new thing I've tried and they definitely help me to relax and fall asleep at night. Hopefully some of the guys read these comments and can try out the recommendations from all the best friends. But regardless, thank you guys for opening up and sharing your struggles. It's very refreshing to see and I appreciate you guys being open and honest!
For folks in the chat or these boys in the vid If you’re having trouble with intrusive ruminations (anxious thoughts you can’t get off the mind) look into grounding techniques, I usually recommend the 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 technique for before bed but there are plenty of tools out there so find the one that works best. Also, find yourself a good therapist, someone you can see regularly and establish a therapeutic relationship with. You will get more out of an average to good therapist you can have a strong relationship with than a great therapist you can’t connect with.
My sleep pattern has been screwed since Jan 2012 due to a motorcycle accident. I only get around 2hrs sleep before I start choking due to my spinal cord squeezing my esophagus. I am also in pain 24/7 due to all the injuries I suffered because of the motorcycle accident (wasn't my fault, was hit by a car doing a U-Turn). You guys at Kinda Funny have helped me so much through these bad times in my life. Been watching Greg and Colin on IGN, then transitioned into Gameovergreggy show and now this set up. I want you guys to know how much you have helped me through the last 10yrs. I have commented about this before, and wish I could be a Patron, but finances are tight. It would be so nice to hang out with you guys, but I am housebound and only leave house for hospital appointments. Plus I am over in the (Oi Governor UK). Take care you wonderful peeps. Big hugs from across the pond and big hugs to the KF best friends in chat.
I'm with Mike. You're allowed to poke the Jenga pieces because there's no other way to determine what's a good piece to take out with just looking. If you have to choose one without testing, it's just a guess at that point.
From the Jenga rule set: "Players may tap a block to find a loose one. Any blocks moved but not played should be replaced, unless doing so would make the tower fall. The turn ends when the next player touches the tower, or after ten seconds, whichever occurs first. Players may use only one hand at a time; either hand may be used, but only one hand may touch the tower at any time. "
THANK YOU guys for having the conversation about us all getting older, bodies being weird and not letting us sleep as much/as well, stresses of life getting into our heads... I feel this so much and it's always comforting to hear that we're all just going through it together! (Btw, I'm typing this at 5:03AM after having just listened to the whole episode because I couldn't fall asleep after getting up to pee..) 😆 Oh, and Andy - proud of you for being on Lexapro, man - that medication got me through my late 20s. Keep taking care of your brain!
Relate a lot to the guys on the sleep front. My nervous system has been deregulated for so long I couldn’t remember what a normal sleep schedule was like for ages (still working on it, honestly). I’d be so stressed out or anxious that I’d wake up to get to work at 9-10am on a Friday, finish at 8-9pm or later and then wouldn’t be able to sleep until Saturday afternoon at the earliest. So I’d just stay up for a full 24 hours week after week after week, and I got way too used to it. It was a combination of things, including undiagnosed ADHD, but it took a massive toll on my mental and physical health. Pilates, walking and stretching have helped a lot! Magnesium mixed in with my chamomile/lemon balm tea or plain water before bed has actually worked better for me than Ambien, Ativan or Klonopin ever did weirdly enough, lol. It wasn’t until I added magnesium to my routine that I was able to sleep through the night without waking up for the first time since before the pandemic. It’s not perfect but I’m happy for the small wins :) Gabbing too much now but seriously wishing the best for anyone struggling with their mental health and the effects it has on sleep! Shit sucks but we out here surviving 😤
Later tonight, imma give this episode the world record standing ovation at a minimum of 23 minutes. We gon steal Guillermo del Toro's thunder! I'll put the link in this comment once it's done 🤣
Former Carolina Hurricanes season ticket holder here (NHL): we stand for the entire game during the playoffs. It’s an old college football/basketball tradition we stole. If you go back to the ‘06 Cup highlights, hard to find a clip where people come out of their seats. Also became a way for them to get more people in the building, but don’t tell anybody.
These standing O's have been happening for yeeeears, that's just what they do at these film festivals. It is a little ridiculous, but like Tim said, they slowly move to each actor and there's clapping for them specifically and then on to the next person, so on and so forth. Also, you all can't be serious with that pronunciation, "Canus" lmao
Having never listened to the Kinda Funny Newcomers podcast since I am not on Patreon, I can confidently say this episode was the opposite of whatever they talk about lol. Still love it though, long live the old men of Kinda Funny
Nick has some of the most intriguing opinions on films. I feel there's some old ideology of films he has specifically from his youth like 80s films or something. And then he hates on a lot of modern ones. Odd sometimes for me
I’d be the one guy that refused to stand if I wasn’t feeling it. I try to be in bed at least 8 hours before I gotta wake up. As someone who works in a pharmacy, I’d say most people I see there (both customers and other employees) often don’t get enough sleep and that’s a big cause of some of their problems. I’m with Mike, if you’re chillin at home, go commando.
I'm with Nick, stop pressuring people into standing ovations. There's always that person who starts the stand when you've finally found you comfort zone in your chair. Now you gotta get yourself together and stand up and if it's a short standing ovation, you'll be getting up just as everyone starts to sit down. It sucks.
We hold a minute silence so I’ll hold a minute applause. No one living deserves more respect than the dead so that’s the most you’re getting out of me. Anything beyond that should be taxed. Like we can give Jamie Leigh Curtis a five minute standing ovation but we’re gonna have to take back Oscar for Everything Everywhere All At Once.
The Cannes film festival is kinda weird in regards to the standing o's. The longest in Cannes history is Pan's Labyrinth at 23 minutes long. On the flip side Taxi Driver was met with boos from the audience. However only Taxi Driver won an award from Cannes.
I audibly said in my car "Oh fuck you Nick" when he started pointing out the peeing thing 😂😂 seriously kids, from 28, you'll be waking up to pee very frequently during the night, keep that in mind
Shirt and comfortable shorts or pants to bed. Underwear ALWAYS. I'm almost 30 and I've never in my whole life been able to sleep naked and not even in just underwear. I also only do about 4 hours of sleep at night and most days I get a couple of tiny naps in. Like two 20 minute naps if my schedule permits.
I’m with mike. The minute I get home, changing clothes maybe shower. Throwing on my shorts balls free no undies, & a tshirt, maybe sweatshirt if I’m trying to cozy up. Sleeping naked, gotta be free!
lol The sex conversation is especially funny because none of them have kids. Just wait for that factor (assuming any of them want kids). It's not a bad thing. My daughter is the light of my life and when my wife and I do have relations it's amazing but it's just not the priority it was before.
What crazier is Leonardo DiCaprio's standing ovation was actually 9 mins! I don't think I'd clap that long if one of my kids landed on the moon, how you do that for 9 mins?
The conversation about standing ovations makes me think about bands and encore bullshit. We know you're gonna come back out and play another song or three. Do we really need to massage your ego? And it's absolutely just part of the act, when my wife and I saw Kiss at a festival we left part way through their set and we heard from people that a large portion of the audience got up to leave immediately after the "last song" and they had to rush right back out to play the encore. I understand that modern rock and metal concerts are a big production so you can't really do spur of the moment songs like you used to or people do at smaller shows, but enough with the waiting to hear people cheer your name before you finish the show bullshit.
And with this, there are now more KF Podcast episodes than GameOverGreggy episodes!
I feel what Andy was saying “I just needed alone time” lol I totally get that.
💯

The fact the Mike is free ballin at home both disturbed and intrigued me.

Crazy to think that whenever Mike is streaming at home, he's commando in the basketball shorts
Just Lil Mike swinging in the wind 😂
Andy slangin dem thangs!
By thangs I mean cellphones for the elderly 🤣
SLANGIN
I'm with Mike. You're allowed to poke the Jenga pieces because there's no other way to determine what's a good piece to take out with just looking. If you have to choose one without testing, it's just a guess at that point.
Agree
What he wasn't supposed to do was pull out pieces from the top 3 rows.
Yup. The rule is to poke until a piece moves. Once a piece moves you have to remove that one.
*stands up and slowly begins to clap*
👏
👏
Slowly follows this person's applause

Andy really understands pizza
For real

Nick was Michael Scott when he boo'd the guy performing Sweeney Todd. 😂
hahahaha he is so michael scott
"the moment the underwear comes off, it's over" SBM
"I miss that closet so much" Love you kev
Mike’s got it right!! Going commando in your comfys and sleeping in the nude.

No wonder Mike has 14 inch hog energy every day he's letting gravity do it's thing 16 hours a day 🫡
32:25
This one was AMAZING thanks guys
I’m with freeballin’ Mike on this one
I applauded for 76 minutes. And you know why those 50 seconds went un-applauded for...
good sleep? that sounds pretty good
Sheet, Comforter + a weighted blanket? I've just been using the sheet for 20 years now. Window open all year too.
"Blast her!" 😂😂😂
As someone who works in theatre, I’m 100% with Nick on the standing ovations.
"The Canis Film Festival" 🤣🤣🤣
Former Carolina Hurricanes season ticket holder here (NHL): we stand for the entire game during the playoffs. It’s an old college football/basketball tradition we stole. That morning music magic🤟
45:03 I've always said nick is the helen mirren of kf
I had a 5 minute "O" after edging for 8 hours

Hearing Nick say that Pan's Labyrinth is "not that good of a movie" is why they can never do GDT In Review. Show that film some respect!
Nick has some of the most intriguing opinions on films. I feel there's some old ideology of films he has specifically from his youth like 80s films or something. And then he hates on a lot of modern ones. Odd sometimes for me
for what it's worth, i think Pan's Labyrinth is one of GTD's best films.
Watching Cool G watch Face/Off was incredible 🤟🏻
he really didn't trust the wife.
In bed by 10 and up by 6 is the way to go.
I’d be the one guy that refused to stand if I wasn’t feeling it.

Stay strong with your sleep y’all. It gets better. Maybe not now, but the day will come.
Nicole Kidman is why i dont go to AMC theaters anymore
I'm with Nick, stop pressuring people into standing ovations. There's always that person who starts the stand when you've finally found you comfort zone in your chair. Yall should do a show on mental health, I'm going through it and others are probably too.
All hail the champion Nick
Cool G hated that woman in Face/Off lol
In an ideal world, I love sleeping naked. Since having a kid, can't do that anymore. Never know when they will sneak in or surprise you.
We hold a minute silence so I’ll hold a minute applause. No one living deserves more respect than the dead so that’s the most you’re getting out of me. Anything beyond that should be taxed. I hope Tim has/ gets a therapist and some medication because he pretty clearly has an anxiety disorder.
Is there a difference between the table hole spacing?
I really hope Andy got therapy based on how much baggage he has around Stew haha.
I audibly said in my car "Oh fuck you Nick" when he started pointing out the peeing thing 😂😂 seriously kids, from 28, you'll be waking up to pee very frequently during the night, keep that in mind
KANE-ESS?! Oh Timothy…😅

They know they’re saying Cannes wrong right … I feel like they’re joking, but you never know with this lot.
Late to the party but underwear is on during all down time. Come on guys
Podcast to rule all podcasts

Why do we revere the big O?
I would just like to point out that Nicole Kidman actually has hands that freakish. Nobody did any editing. She may be part walrus.
she's an aussie. we need big hands to remove the giant spiders from our homes and cars.
It's pronounced "caz", the n's are silent.
lmao THIS DUDE GETS IT
the belt is ruined

I don't know if the Rock getting a standing ovation for Black Adam:
1: is a good example
2: ever happened
😂
i'd give a standing ovation to the Nic Cage movie The Rock, though.
its pronounced can
