Manuel Alonso I recently discussed this on a podcast titled top 5 offshore kayaks. My list came in like this.. Trident 15 Stealth Fisha 555 Viking Reload Hobie Revolution Malibu x-13
Thanks Lonestar, after a few upcoming fishing videos we'll be releasing some full reviews of some kayaks from Native Watercraft. Ram has tons of things to show you all.
Mine is 7yo and so much lighter and quicker. They turned this into a loaded up yak and made it slower and much heavier. I saw this newer model at my local shop and it makes me appreciate my older version.
Great question, unfortunately the trident series doesn’t have any screw mounting capabilities. Your options are to use a strong silicone glue which is what I use. You can also do an inside the hull installation by molding the transducer to the bottom from inside, just be air bubbles are at a minimum (you won’t get accurate water temp reading this way). The last option is an external swing bar. Look up Railblaza transducer swing by option.
wish I had purchased this kayak instead of my BG prowler II. Thing is a beast but Its just too wide for my liking. I have more than enough balance to stand on a 29" wide kayak, and with mine it takes so much to paddle out of rivers if I'm fighting current. Really looking forward to hopefully making the switch to the trident 15 so I can increase the amount of water I cover. Great review too, couldn't agree more about Ocean Kayaks storage ability inside the hull, although the thought of cleaning out the inside after a catch does make me a bit anxious haha
Thanks Quinn and good luck on the switch. This is one of my favorite paddling kayaks till this day and still use it competitively. The hull storage to hold fish is tricky for sure. Medium fish bags work great although its easier to pop them in without one. A little bleach water and rinse does the trick.
Great job on the video! Love my Prowler 13 and Prowler 15! That said I have no interest in this 91lb kayak due to it's much too heavy weight and expensive price. Rudder? Unless you are fighting wind and strong current, not needed IMO. Turning is easy with laying back and doing a full side sweep stroke to bring the bow around. Laying back will raise the bow a bit and making it easier to turn. I've owned a fleet of SOT's in the 13-16' range (Tarpons 14 & 16, Necky 14, Perception Search 15, Bic Scarpa (fast boat), Hobie Quest 13 too heavy/sluggish), and Perception Triump 13 (fastest!) and the OK Prowler/Tridents are my favorites for fishing in big water. If you want the fastest touring of the poly kayaks, the Perception Truimph 13' is the real deal, but hard to find.
Have a question about your trident 15, do you use a pfd that has foam full back or just the top. I just bought a new trident 15 and am looking at new pfd’s just don’t want to waste money buying the wrong one
I have several PFD’s, the one I use for my trident is the Stohlquist Rocker. The foam is more towards my back center spins leaving me more than enough comfort to paddle. For me it’s the perfect jacket unless you want a bunch of pocket accessories.
Makes me want to get rid of my 6 year old ocean kayak 13!! Can't believe you didn't flip when them waves were hitting you on the side. Nice video! What's the price range?
Matt Roberts Haha, you wouldn’t regret it! It’s a fantastic kayak. As for the flipping believe it or not the hull design allows for some “relatively” easy broaching but this is something that must be practiced. I went ahead and put all the specs and details in description. MSRP is 1,499.99 but I’ve seen previous yea old models go for $1000-$1200. Thanks for tuning in, glad you enjoyed the video!
I haven’t had any issues with the lowrance, and that’s because it’s been fully submerged. I think the key is to just baby the terminals. I always grease them and trim back any wires that look corroded.
Over the years I've noticed a little of the same. You can do a couple of things. Put some sort of thicker weather stripping around the lip of the mold, or you can actually convert over back to a wrap around clip. Basically like the old school kayak hatches use to lock in place. I may release some content on these side grades soon for clarification.
Do you think that this kayak will be suitable for scuba diving and spearfishing? The rated weight capacity is only 455 lb | 206.4 kg, is this ok when you are right at this capacity with all of the dive equipment and possibly the fish you catch?
Burhaneddin Muntasser you can push the weight capacity and be fine. What you’ll notice is a loss in stability and significant performance once that number is exceeded.
As a female kayaker they lost me at 91 lbs, not happening even with a slide up onto my Jeep, because I couldn't combat the force if it came back at me during the lift.
Speed is relative. A pure sea kayak is going to be very narrow, but then when we hit the "kayak fishing world", things change. Most of these kayak can achieve the same distance based off the individuals endurance and form. The Malibu X-13, Viking Reload, Trident 13-15, Ocean Frenzy, Swell Watercraft, Jackson Kraken 13.5-15.5, and Stealth Kayaks are all part of the offshore world. The less effort paddling = greater the distance, but wind and paddling form can change these ranks around. A great questions! It's always tough answering it because it would require me to also know what sort of a paddler you are. If I where to rank them in speed I would put them like so...(NO wind) 1.) Stealth 2.) Swell 3.) Viking 4.) Trident 5.) Malibu X-13 6.) Kraken If I where to rank them in speed I would put them like so...(WITH wind) 1.) Stealth 2.) Trident 3.) Viking 4.) Kraken 5.) Swell 6.) Malibu X-13
@@NextLevelFishingTV Thanks a lot i tried a few sea kayaks but I wanted to try something more stable kayaks for fishing on my paddling trips. I will take a look at the other models, the trident seems to be a good option for the price. The stealths looks awesome though.
Test paddle a Malibu X-13. I go back/forth on which I like better with my OK Prowler 15 vs X-13. I get slightly bit better tracking/speed with the X-13, but the Prowler is a bit easier to handle in fussy water and also a bit lighter. You need to at least sit on both and ideally paddle both. No wrong choices.
@@NextLevelFishingTV I loved the video review and your ranking of how the kayaks paddle in calm conditions and in the wind. I'm on a Trident Ultra 4.3 in Hawaii, powered by Bixpy now, and it definitely seems safer when the weather turns ugly than the raised seat pedal boats my buddies are on. But then again, I've very biased. :-)
Which length paddle did you settled on for this yak? I need to order a paddle for the Ocean Kayak Trident 15. I am strong like bull, 6'4" and tired of ordering the wrong shi**. Thank you

Two different animals man, but the revo is definitely on my top 5 offshore picks. I try to separate drive vs paddle kayaks because people tend to lean one way or the other despite anything outside of the drive. If I had to pick, still the Trident.... you get so many options you’ll appreciate in the long run that the revo can’t do.
Probably cause most folks don’t know what they are talking about or how to explain the importance of that into the design. There are a few things I contemplated on getting into and probably should have. I’ll definitely incorporate that into future reviews, I’ve only done two.
My ultra is still better.. the middle compartment is so big, I use it as a live well, plus a small soft cooler for drinks and snacks .. this trident one is tiny..
I agree 100%. The Trident Ultra series was the best fishing kayak OK ever made. I'm on the Ultra 4.3 and put my smaller fishbag plus my tackle bag inside the center hatch I had cut out. My Large Hobie kill bag is in the rear tank well. I only have to turn around behind my seat if I truly catch something big, and the Ultra 4.3 is stable enough not to huli (flip) if I do that correctly.
I picked up two trident 13s haven’t been able to use them or put them to the test due to shoulder injury I’m good now I can’t wait to take them out after watching your review I’ll feel comfortable taking them out on lake Michigan thank for the review great job on the videos
