I remember watching David Jefferies unboxing a brand new FZR 600 which was in a crate at his house when he lived with his parents. I believe it was his first proper race bike. He had all the race fairings ready to fit. This was the late 80's. He used to ride motocross mainly and some trials before this. I remember him getting a brand new Honda CR250 and going through a back tyre pulling wheelies and being silly going up and down the tarmac drive to his parents house! He used to borrow some of the demonstrator bikes from his dads/uncles bike shop and do crazy stuff on them. Very talented on any bike from a young age.
I had an early RSV with the PFM discs, AP 6 pot calipers and Masters. Magnesium wheels, The forks out of HAGAs R7, Ohlins race rear, a big bore and trick throttle body/injectors. The guy who did it spent over £17K just on the upgrades. It made simmilar power to an early R1 but being a V twin put it down early out of the bends with better ground clearance. I suspect it would have been a faster bike round most places.
