BMW R100CS: Build Update | Electrics Installed

- Time to re-installed the electrics and the main electrical components on my 1981 BMW R100CS. In addition to the alternator rebuild, this bike now has a new regulator, dual coils, relays, brake light switches, and sublooms for the charging system. Thankfully the origin harness was ok to re-use.

Yes and taking some inspiration from your project I've have taken the top end off the 650 to do upgrades, Clutch /Cam/ and high compression pistons 🤓 Cheers @@WildlifeMoto
Cool, that you where be able to do this, the BMW 750IL that was used in the James Bond is classified as oldtimer in their catalog while it looks it could have been build yesterday. 14:38 the handlebar / steer looks very narrow, i would put a wider variant.
These bikes do have surprisingly narrow handlebars. I think they work well with the front fairing. If I was taking the fairing off, I would probably go for something a little wider.
someone else mentioned this is a video about the R100RS that handlebars where narrow to not protrude the fairing and help areo. but i think a slightly wider would be more stable and easier to handle.@@WildlifeMoto

Blame the direction of the clamps on my OCD😉 I appreciate you acknowledging this because it shows most definitely you listen to your audience ❤️ Is it possible to not install the tank & rig up a fuel bowl up hanging from the garage roof to avoid having to remove it & then re-install it in case of adjustments? Thus avoiding scratching the beautiful paintwork?
Once the battery is charged or a new battery fitted, switch on the ignition (without starting the engine) to operate through all the switchgear to confirm everything is connected & operating? Front & rear lights, Brake lights, horn, instrument lighting & idiot lights? I don’t expect the fuel tank to have a fuel pump, but confirm fuel is flowing through the taps.
Cheers Steve and thanks for your advice. Yes, I've been thinking about getting a temporary fuel tank for the first tests. The last thing I want to do is mess around with taking the tank off again and risking scratching it. On these bikes the seat runs super close to the tank making it risky to remove the tank without scratching it on the front of the seat housing. As soon as the battery is charged, I'll test out all the lighting. Hopefully it's all good! No fuel pump, but I am rebuilding the taps with new meshes and gaskets.
I also wonder were the original brake lines rubber or were they braided? I think black sheathing would suit the bike better than the clear sheathing.
Will you re-install the chrome engine guards?
That would look good. The lines on the bike when I got it were clear braided. They were pretty old looking but not sure if they were original.
Nice to be reminded of what the bike looked like in that clip…are you having the seat re-padded?
Cheers Alan. The seat is in pretty good condition, I'll get some miles on it and see if it needs re-padding. They do sell new seats but man are they expensive!

Great video, my dude! I'm gonna level with you here, that ring light is too bright for its own good, your face looks kinda blown out and it lights up your eyes in a weird way. You'd be well served by either turning down your camera exposure/ring light brightness, bouncing your light off a white wall, or switching entirely to a key+fill lighting setup. Great work tho, I've been following your content for a while now :)
