Did it yesteday for my friend. The XD freehub was stuck extremely hard. Your video was so helpful, thank you ! The only thing I have to say: in my case it was stuck so hard, and the tapping impact was so hard, that the 10.1mm freehub spacer was damaged , and became a little bit shorter, as result the freehub wasn't spinning freely . For now, I added to the spacer one m15 0.5mm shim, and it works nice. Need to order a new 10.1mm freehub spacer.
Great vid, the the real issues with DT Swiss hubs that they don't talk about in their service manuals. Thanks for taking the time. Afraid it wasn't successful for me, they were completely seized solid. I am giving up with DT Swiss wheels. Had 2 sets, where it wasn't possible to service them after just a couple of years.
Very helpful video! These DT Swiss hubs are very similar to Zipp's 176D hubs! My cassette was seized, so were the bearing to the axle, thanks for making educational videos!
Mega helpful video! Thanks! My DT Swiss 360 has a worn axle. When I tighten the wheel up the free hub no longer spins as it is pushed too much onto the shaft. Is it possible to order replacement shafts?
thank you! Ive tried hammering out my axle, and it still wont budge, I am going to soak both sides in WD40 for a while, but apart form that, any other tips for getting the axle loose?
Mate my hub has no thread or inner cassette in order to put the crank set on i cant remove the axle it doesn't come out can i get a inner freewheel to go over the axle in order to get a chain cassette on .
Great job with your vids. But how do you get out the wheel bearing that was stuck inside the wheel in 11mins? I have a Scott Syncros wheel with XD Hub but very similar to the DT Swiss setup. But on the Drive side, my bearing is stuck. There are some grooves (Like sharkfin shape) inside the wheel but they are very close to the edge of the bearing making me unsure which way to hammer out the bearing..
Thank you teach! Thank you for speaking slow enough for a dumb yank! LOL! My experiences with vehicles helped me with your use of blocks and bearings. Keep up this good work of teaching us practical maint of bikes!
Is the cassette supposed to come off the freehub? I thought the lock ring held it all together but ive got the wheel off and im able to pull the cassette right off the freehub
Hey @Free To Cycle I have this hub and I am trying to change the bearings but the Axle is stuck, presumably a similar thing to the freehub being stuck. Do you have any tips - I have literally been hitting as hard as I can with a nylon hammer and nothing!
Try soaking the left hand bearing with penetrating oil. The axle has to knock the left hand bearing out, if the bearing is stuck in the hub it will make axle seem hard to remove!!
Thanks for you channel!! really useful!! this process would be the same for a Mavic ID360 Freehub body? it is stucked and I cannot take it out!! thanks!!!
One question... If I'm only regressing the star ratchet can I leave the cassette on the freehub or do I need to remove the cassette to get it all back together?
I have just had a spline wheel serviced and I've put the wheel back on and when I tighten the Scewer the wheel has a lot of resistance, what's going on.
@@valgeirb apparently the rubber seal that came with the new hub was causing it so they put the old seal back on with the new nub and it worked. We'll that's what they told me.
Hi, I have a rose pro sl, it has Rose own brand wheels with what I believe to be a dt swiss rear hub/freewheel, I want to service the freehub and replace bearings, I cannot remove end caps!!. The drive side cap has an allen key fitting and the word loosen (clockwise on the cap ) is it threaded .I cant for the life me remove drive or non drive end caps off by simply pulling, even in a vice, any suggestion or ideas? Love the videos by the way.
@@FreeToCycle Hi, there is only an allen key fitting on the drive side, the non drive side is just circular, so not sure how or what to hold when trying to loosen the drive side bolt!!
Gary Usually if the caps are threaded on to the axle there will be a cutout on the end cap for a spanner to locate allowing you to undo the cap and hold the opposite side.
Great info, but not exactly why I was here. It's not the freehub body itself that is seized on my wheel, it's the sealing. ring behind it, the part that you need to remove the axle, to change out the bearings. Someone said heat it ! Not sure about that. Any idea please. I have the whole thing in a vice, the right tools and a left hand turn with the wheel but it's not going to move I feel it. *grrrrr
If you use heat it will melt the seal on the bearing, which isn’t a problem if you are replacing it anyway. You could try soaking it with penetrating oil and then hit the axle down and out the non drive side!
@@FreeToCycle thanks, still no movement after heating with paint stripper gun and WD-40, did you mean that I can hot the axle out ok as you suggest it is safe to do that with the nut still in? So drive out the axle and then try again on the locking nut ? Yes?
Bro! Putting the cassette back on and pulling it was the best advice! After few attempts, the spindle came off. Thank you.
Thank you so much. I almost gave up on my seized freehub and saved up on getting a new rear hub.

This saved me big-time on a giant slr 2 wheel 🙏🙏
Thanks a lot, man! I finally managed to get mine unstuck.
Oh yeah! That worked. Now I just need a new cassette body instead of a whole new wheel. I was getting desperate haha.
Great tutorial.thanks Applies equally well to a mavic id360.
Thank you. What a great help.
This is great. Thank you, your advice helped a lot. 👍👍👍🖖
The freewheel trick, did the trick!!

If the free body not tighten properly and if its tighten properly and it stocking what causes it ????

You can leave the cassette on the freehub!
Hi, I have the exact same wheel. Can you just put part numbers for all 4 bearings? thanks very much
Any tips for removing a stubborn ring drive?
I have just had a spline wheel serviced and I've put the wheel back on and when I tighten the Scewer the wheel has a lot of resistance, what's going on.
First thing to try is loosening the skewer a little see if the wheel spins better then!
@@FreeToCycle tried that but had to loosen it so much it wasn't as tight as I usually have it. Can the freehub be too tight.
The spacer that fits on the axle before the freehub body goes on could be worn!
@@igloodesigners how did you fix the problem? I have the same issue as you...

Gary does the hub have any brand names on it?
Hub has RH-305 on it, freehub has FH-536.
Send a few pictures of the hub to info@freetocycle.co.uk and I’ll take a look!!
