  • There is a lot of debate on if Genuine Lishi is just a ripoff of Original Lishi. In this video I explain my understanding of the differences and explain why I think Genuine Lishi is a great choice. I also pick a kwikset lock using the Genuine Lishi KW1 2-in-1 lock pick.

    Every Lishi that I have purchased has had the profile of mr.Lishi and every one came with a slide out plastic case that will connect to the other one. I have also gotten ones in black injection molded boxes which all had Mr.Lishi's picture and seal on them. I have not found the ones with the electronic decoders on them yet. I am starting a mobile locksmith business and I am mainly going to do residential lockouts with the key cutting until I make enough to purchase a full set of Lishi's for automotive. There are some really good machines out there for the laser cut keys. I love building my own equipment so I really appreciate knowing how things work.

    Thanks for breaking down the history of both companies! Very interesting! P.S. With regards to the packaging/cases, it's been the EXACT opposite in my case. That being, all the Genuine Lishis I have purchased came in plastic slide-out containers, whereas the two Original Lishis I ordered this year have come just sealed in a plastic sleeve.

    Excellent summary of the two companies. That has been what my research has come up with as well. The cost difference is a big one and if you are wanting two Lishi's it would make financial sense to buy the Genuine one. To buy the other I think comes down to a loyalty attachment to honour the original creator of the Lishi and their wishes. As both are the same product with only one minor difference. Thanks for this video, cheers

      He still gets a check from them. Your just paying $60 for a shitty case. I’ll take the cheaper and get another one as back up or I saw they had different models for different locks

    I have both Lishi tools and the only physical differences I can see is that on the Genuine the double round nose that the tension bar is attached to is a different metal than the rest of the pick. It appears to be zinc. The original brand Lishi has that piece the same metal as the entire pick. I agree the picks are basically the same and would go for the cheaper of the two. 🦊

    I think it was the helpfulockpicker who made a video about these and his results were that they both open locks the same. I usually don't like cheap brands either but there almost half the price and work the same

    Here's a write up about the 2009 agreement. "...May 2009 Lishi signed a partnership agreement with UAP Limited of the UK. UAP and their locksmith division Tradelocks have an unrivalled reputation for great products, great prices and unparelled service. UAP through its Tradelocks division would give to Lishi a cutting edge view on the world of auto locks. Lishi would in return give to UAP the worldwide distribution for all new tools, including the 2-in-1 Pick/decoders."

  • @mattlebrun6601
    @mattlebrun6601 3 года назад

    the original lishi does not come in the cases you are talking about. you have to buy the cases separate, i have never seen the cases online. they are around 3 dollars. you have to get them from a lock supplier and to get from a supplier you need to fill out there paperwork.

    • @jamezh2822
      @jamezh2822 3 года назад +1

      The cases being talked about do in fact come with Original Lishi 2 in 1 tools. The replacement cases are $2.50 if you break one. The leather cases are not free.

    But you didn't actually cut a key. Locksmiths have said that the problem comes when you cut the key. The keys don't work because the reading is inaccurate. Beware locksmiths. Hobbiest don't earn a living cutting keys.

    • @TonyVirelli
      @TonyVirelli  3 года назад

      I respect your opinion, however I’m confused by it. There are depth numbers, not measurements. Yes the measurements might not be perfect, but a 6 cut is a 6 cut and a 2 cut is a 2 cut. Again, you’re right that I don’t make my living doing this. You may be 100% correct and each person should do their own research.

      @@TonyVirelli I think if you use a bitting keycard on the Lishi tool afterward, you should be fine?

    • @joshm1636
      @joshm1636 3 года назад

      @@TonyVirelli I'm not sure if you've received more information on these, but the depths that these tools show directly correspond to the measurements required to cut the key. They are shown when you look up the card number written on each pick. The problem with these tools is that if the reading from the lock is a #6 depth pin when it is actually a #5 depth pin, the locksmith cutting the key would be unwittingly machining that cut too deep. I have used multiple inline lishi picks and many are slightly out because the lifter required for picking the pins is also responsible for decoding and if it is bent, the reading is out. Calibration is potentially required and in many cases, worn pins and keyways can also change the depth measurements.

    Genuine Lishi is legal to make Lishi tools , but Genuine Lishi just copies the design turn by turn , corner by corner. It just for their quick profits when Mr. Li spent 6 months for the KW1 . What do you think of this ? If we are ok of this then who will be willing to spend effort making new tools.

    • @giottolaudo7672
      @giottolaudo7672 2 года назад

      You're literally describing the frigging contract Lishi agreed to. He supplied the designs, they provided the factory. Where, precisely, is the problem? He invented/designed a tool, and signed a contract with a company for them to manufacture that tool. How does buying that tool from the company he contracted to *make* the tool somehow cheat Lishi or something? And what in God's name is wrong with the company Lishi contracted to make the damn tools using his designs...making the damn tools using his designs? For God's sake...

    Dude it's called real vs knock off. They're one of the easiest consumer products to counterfeit. If you don't purchase from a licensed distributor and you're getting it for a fraction of the price, it's a fake. Chinese knock offs, or as you call it a "business disagreement" are extremely easy to differentiate. Either way, most the fakes are functionally similar to the original with negligible differences.
