Cheaper ones are fine. Lishi which means Mr. Lee in Chinese, he invented the tools off of German picks. German picks did not have the depth and spaces so Mr. Lee incorporated into the tool so that it's much easier to pick since you don't have to guess around, like converting violin into guitar if that makes easier to understand. At the early stage of tool developing, the English distribution company filed patent for the tool since Mr.Lee was not familiar with the patent process. So it became a big thing about the rights to produce the tools between Mr. Lee and them. So the English company came up with the name Genuine Lishi vs Lishi tool. At early stage locksmith tool distributors sold Genuine Lishi more than Lishi Tools not knowing the background story but lately most of them are carrying Lishi tools so I guess they sided with Mr. Lee than Genuine Lishi. I bought both of them at the beginning and both were pretty much identical in quality so if you buy Genuine Lishi products you should be fine. From what I’ve researched so far, I’m assuming the SC4? Or maybe that won’t work on most front doors? Any help would be greatly appreciated :) Thank you for the video!
I am not sure what the UK uses. I would say look at your keys, friends, family and see what is most common. Once you know see what versions are available. Just make sure you only pick locks you own or ones you have permission to pick.
@@HelpfulLockPicker that’s great thank you!!! I will ask UK lock smiths as well! I work in the emergency services and we have to break a lot of doors down so was hoping to give this a whirl if it’s possible! Thank you again for the speedy reply! :)
They sell a kit with common door locks. Kwikset and Schlage are the most common keyways. But honestly if you need to get into a house right now, breaking down the door is the way to go. Picking a lock isn't something that is going to work well under stress.
Which would you recommend getting for common door lock picking kw5, am5 or sc4? Newbie getting started with the picking hobby and would like an easier method than guessing with a regular pick lol

So, I'm here after looking up original lishi tools, and saw that key ways have a sort of "family tree" that stems from one basic shape. Do the clone lishis come in that one base shape for the different lock brands, or do you have to get all of the specific shapes? I'd like to just get the base shapes for the most used locks, because I've been wanting to start up an emergency locksmith business for a while now. But I don't have the funds for the expensive stuff right off the mark.
Seeing that the original tool has a matte surface I'd wager a guess: the "genuine" variant's surface will scratch up if used a lot and therefore become harder to read. One question, though: is the text etched in on the original one? The "genuine" one? Thanks for introducing us to the cheaper ones!
Regarding SC1 vs SC$ and KW1 vs KW5, I thought the same and wanted to get only SC4 but some 5 pin cylinders do not let SC4 tools to enter all the way so depth and space could be off you still can work around the issue but what made me to buy separate sc1 is the tension aspect. If you use SC4 tool in 5 pin cylinder then the 90 bump where the blade ends(shoulder) does not go into the cylinder and you are putting the tension on the much weaker blade instead of the shoulder. You still can pick the lock but you have to be very careful not to twist the blade.
I guess that's a very big saving. Two for the price of one. Does the weight feel the same seeing as you said the material they are made of seems to be different?
From my limited exposure to it it feels comprable and worth it. One of the most overlooked things might be the fact that these are available and you don't need to show your some type of locksmith to get them. That alone almost makes it worth it
@@HelpfulLockPicker great video. I am seeing some on Ebay. Where do you recommend we buy them? Also are these also for residential locks? Everything I am seeing portrays these as for automotive. If you can use them also for residential, which models should I buy? Sorry for all the questions.

Genuine Lishi are not clones or knockoffs but are legally licensed. Mr. Li had a falling out with the company that produced his tools but they nonetheless retain a legal right to produce them and utilize the name.
@@HelpfulLockPicker yeah, that why I was asking. You said they match up perfectly. I took screen shots and placed the images over eachother, they weren't exactly the same when decoded. Granted the difference was small enough that a simple wiggle of the key would make up for the difference. I would assume that the fake brand would be the one requiring the extra wiggling on cut keys. Though a difference is there, like i said it is negligible. That said, thanks for the video it was great! 👍
that was some good info and its better then carrying around picks and tension tools .. I looked on there web site jezz I couldn't make heads or tails out it .. interesting stuff ..
I could get one, but.....I can do exactly what a lishi does with a tension wrench and a specific hook that most people don't use. As for decoding the lishi does that.
Where did you buy these? I couldn’t find the website or link to buy one on the lishi website. Also, I was looking at these locks earlier today and this video gets in my feed a few hours later, coincidence? haha
@@HelpfulLockPicker eBay used to be great but now they charge sales tax and the tax narrows the price gap between the Original and the "Genuine" because the Original can be purchased on some sites that don't charge sales tax. The Original sells for $100 when on sale and then there is no shipping and no sales tax. That makes the Genuine less tempting.

When decoding for key cutting, if the depth is "in between" (2) gauge numbers (ie) The pin is reading between depth #4 and #3. Do you use the top depth gauge number (4) for key cutting?
I just spent over 700 dollars on all of the house/padlock lishi tools. If I were to buy all the lishi tools for automobiles I'd be down another 900 dollars. Guess I'll stick to using the air wedge and reaching rods to open locked cars. Lol
General rule of thumb is you get what you pay for! Same as pick sets you can buy junk that won't last or a quality set that will last forever if taken care of! The knock off version Lishi might not last the test of time or have some other defect not known yet or it could be the exception
This is a point I look forward to finding out. I plan to use this as my set that I'm a little bit rougher on so it will be good to truthfully see how long it lasts :-)
I ordered all my lishi tools from my Locksmith suppliers where I order all my keys like UHS hardware, clk supplies & American Supply and mine always come in a little bag with the lishi QR code on the back I never get a box
To my old eyes, it looked to me like the original markings were cleaner and easier to read. That would be the ones with the round body, not the flat-sided one.
Yeah several people have said it already. The Lishi tool he has in the unboxing is actually from the source supplier, and it's original. This youtuber is not informed about the source supplier and who makes them. Currently Lishi tools is made by one supplier a company owned by Mr. Li. However their are several distributors and that is why the price difference is being seen now. Now that more distributors have began selling this tool, the price of it has been going down.
The cheaper one is fine for someone who just picks locks for fun, but for someone who needs to depend on them for a business then the more expensive one should be of better quality all round and hopefully last longer ;-)
Not true I'm afraid; Mr. Li designed the tools, then fell out with the management of the company that makes the 'Original' Lishi tools. He then left the company to start his own one, and calls his tools the 'Genuine' Lishi. Same steel and design. No difference in quality at all, but certainly less expensive to purchase...
Unfortunately, these tools only work for the specific keyway that they are built for. As far as I know, a version for those locks has not been made yet
I wanted to buy an KW and SC for fun. You said the SC4 and KW5 is the same as the SC1 and KW1 except it has an extra chamber? Or am I interpreting it wrong?
Hello so your saying I can pick up the SC4 and KW5 since they work the same as the 1's versions, but can open more locks with the extra length. In the video you used them on a 6 cylinder lock as intended, but have you used the SC4/KW5 on 5 cylinder locks with success? The only reason I ask is since the SC4/KW5 6 pin tool is longer when it bottom out will the design not allow it to grab the number 5 pin without needing to pull out. I'm assuming by default the SC4/KW5 in the 5 pin lock will already be one slot outside the lock when it bottoms out but will it still be able to grab all 5 pins? Thanks

The big problem is that the Chinese are always copying other companies products, i bought what was advertised as a genuine Lishi with the Mr Lishi logo, and when i received it i found it was a fake copy

Granted the difference was small enough that a simple wiggle of the key would make up for the difference. I would assume that the fake brand would be the one requiring the extra wiggling on cut keys. Though a difference is there, like i said it is negligible. That said, thanks for the video it was great! 👍
Thanks for sharing
how would it make a difference on the key u cut if u decode a 2 cut on both tools??
This video has answered part of my previous question
I wish you luck on your quest to find the right one :-)
that was some good info and its better then carrying around picks and tension tools .. I looked on there web site jezz I couldn't make heads or tails out it .. interesting stuff ..
Thanks for checking it out! I purchased mine on eBay if that helps
Which model on Amazon fits padlocks? thanks!
I could get one, but.....I can do exactly what a lishi does with a tension wrench and a specific hook that most people don't use. As for decoding the lishi does that.
I would say at the decoding is really the only important part though
@@HelpfulLockPicker I can't dispute that it is very useful for that.
In a few weeks I am going to attempt an unorthodox decoding idea. It will take a little time to sort about but I'm interest to see what happens
Where did you buy these? I couldn’t find the website or link to buy one on the lishi website. Also, I was looking at these locks earlier today and this video gets in my feed a few hours later, coincidence? haha
I bought mine on ebay
@@HelpfulLockPicker eBay used to be great but now they charge sales tax and the tax narrows the price gap between the Original and the "Genuine" because the Original can be purchased on some sites that don't charge sales tax. The Original sells for $100 when on sale and then there is no shipping and no sales tax. That makes the Genuine less tempting.
Thanks for this. I bought the kw1 & sc1 for $129.00. Hope to be able to read the sc4 & kw5 by projecting out the depth lines.
thanks for sharing
How have these held up inn comparison since this video was posted? Still of equal quality or has one deteriorated over time more than the other? Thanks !
Mine have held up well
Hi do they the cheaper lishi m1 and do you have a link to the cheaper lishi tools thanks for the video
I think lockpicks.com sells them. I could be wrong
@@HelpfulLockPicker thanks for your video content it will save me and many others alot of money,if you have any questions for me,as I am a locksmith in Canada I would be happy to answer them finest Regards;

@@Rocketlockopener what machine do you use? I have HPC Blitz and Silca Flash 009
@@HelpfulLockPicker hi I use the blitz and the wenexing key duplicator along with hpc punch great
For portability.
When decoding for key cutting, if the depth is "in between" (2) gauge numbers
(ie) The pin is reading between depth #4 and #3.
Do you use the top depth gauge number (4) for key cutting?
If unsure I would go with the lower number because you can always cut deeper
@@HelpfulLockPicker Thanks buddy
I just spent over 700 dollars on all of the house/padlock lishi tools. If I were to buy all the lishi tools for automobiles I'd be down another 900 dollars. Guess I'll stick to using the air wedge and reaching rods to open locked cars. Lol
Thank you for sharing.
Is there a Mr lishitool for decoding the Yale type locks?
I am hoping one will come but I believe there's some difficulty making it because of how paracentric the keyway is
General rule of thumb is you get what you pay for! Same as pick sets you can buy junk that won't last or a quality set that will last forever if taken care of! The knock off version Lishi might not last the test of time or have some other defect not known yet or it could be the exception
In that case forever means about 1 year for me😂
This is a point I look forward to finding out. I plan to use this as my set that I'm a little bit rougher on so it will be good to truthfully see how long it lasts :-)
I will let you know how they hold up :)
@HelpfulLockPicker they hold up?
@@S3brandon lol yea so far but I take care of my tools. Some people are rough with them
I ordered all my lishi tools from my Locksmith suppliers where I order all my keys like UHS hardware, clk supplies & American Supply and mine always come in a little bag with the lishi QR code on the back I never get a box
I want to buy the LISHI tool for English lock exactly for LASSA, KALE, ABUS and like that from you or can you tell me please where can I buy it?
I do not think they make them. I would go on the Lishi website and look for distributors
Hi sir !! Wich lishi tool can pick the WR5 lock please 🙏
I need to get a new one because some cxxts stole my work van with all my tool now it's goin to take me time to get everything I had back
That is unfortunate. Hopefully everything is looking better for you
To my old eyes, it looked to me like the original markings were cleaner and easier to read. That would be the ones with the round body, not the flat-sided one.
Thank you for sharing
What would I need to pick a 1970s Ford f100
The corresponding lishi tool
Why do you not test them in the field comparing ware n tear?
That could be a reasonable comparison to make
Excuse me but all those kw5 kw1 rhey all cost seperately this much? Or its whole package
I bought them all separately
Yeah several people have said it already. The Lishi tool he has in the unboxing is actually from the source supplier, and it's original. This youtuber is not informed about the source supplier and who makes them. Currently Lishi tools is made by one supplier a company owned by Mr. Li. However their are several distributors and that is why the price difference is being seen now. Now that more distributors have began selling this tool, the price of it has been going down.
Thank you for sharing your version
sc1 sc4. qw5 what it is the real diference between all of them?
Can you please tell us which eBay seller you purchase from? It would make things so much easier for everyone looking. Thanks much
I don't think he sells them anymore because eBay probably told him he can't sell them
The cheaper one is fine for someone who just picks locks for fun, but for someone who needs to depend on them for a business then the more expensive one should be of better quality all round and hopefully last longer ;-)
thanks for sharing!
Not true I bought a BE2 7 pin 2-in1 tool and it was broke when I got it. They look identical and work the same
Not true I'm afraid; Mr. Li designed the tools, then fell out with the management of the company that makes the 'Original' Lishi tools. He then left the company to start his own one, and calls his tools the 'Genuine' Lishi. Same steel and design. No difference in quality at all, but certainly less expensive to purchase...
mine has a picture of mr lishi and the blue emblem on the back. and it sells for $15.00
Where
Where you get such crazy prices for them.
Which one?
Do you have the link to buy it
Which one?
I want to get the sc4 and Quickset one
Hello does that thing works in every lock like cars motorbike house locks ? And where do I get that I live in Africa and I really need that one
You need to get a specific Lishi for each specific lock. They do not have them for all locks. Most of them are for auto locks.
Great video! Do you know if this tools works with European locks? Like Cisa, Abus, Tesa.. etc.?
Unfortunately, these tools only work for the specific keyway that they are built for. As far as I know, a version for those locks has not been made yet
I was watching one Video where they opened an Abus Lock with KW1. Have you tried it on europe Locks?

It has the extra chamber but I find it harder to use on 5 pins locks
Any Lishi model for older Volvo 240? Late 80's, Early 90's?
The original Lishi tool markings are far easier to read than those on the Genuinelishi tools.

How much tension do you apply to the tension bar?
Not much at all
Hi, I am in Australia and have a Lockwood LW5 / C4, which Lishi Tools suits this lock? Thanks
I believe I got the Kwikset one to fit into one of the lockwoods however you really only want to get the Lishi fir the lock you are working on
Are there any Lishi tools for European locks? Like Assa, Keso or Ikon?
Not yet
thank you for this, very well made video
Glad you enjoyed it!
Good god man, you really said yes to that music? 😂
Thanks
Look at one of my more recent videos. If you use a spacer it makes the 6 pin version work on 5 pin more easily
@@HelpfulLockPicker My bad new to the community of lock picking lol. OK cool I found a site that has those spacers so cool. Thanks again for your reply👍

You would need to run it through a database.
Sorry for the naivety but how do i do that?

The knock off genuine kind now also have Mr lishis face on them. Now u can only tell by the part the tension arm connects to. Original has a round look the genuine copys have a squared off connector collar

Do you know if they make for m1 and m5
A Masterlock Original Lishi is coming out I don't know about the genuine version
genuine lishi copies everything original lishi makes. they dont invent anything. original lishi M1/M5 will be out soon. give it a few months and these bums will release knock offs
