A couple of other things that could be done is make the 13th hole a Par 4 in instead of 5, add more front bunkers and lengthen the other par 5's. The club could also narrow up the teeing areas so the players tee up into the trouble.
Also, limit the surface area of clubs. Some drivers are just too big and stupid.

And apparently one of only three men -- the others being Sam Snead and Jack Burke Jr., way back in the 1950s -- to win the Masters with a score "over par." I'm sure I was watching, but to be honest I don't remember it -- which is why I landed here...on a day when the projected "cut" at the 2024 Masters is a score of +4. Clearly, Zach Johnson "put on a clinic" that day -- in terms of matching the strengths of his game, to the weather, the course conditions, and to Augusta National itself. And he did it all, with Tiger Woods & Retief Goosen hot on his tail. That was great performance, for sure.

Not to take anything anyway from Zach who was one of the few young players to blossom in that era (unlike DJ Trahan, Hank Kuene, Ryan Moore, Spencer Levin) and for that I will always give him the utmost respect, this Masters was about Tiger both going in and during, and the fact that he didn’t win was as shocking as anything. He had been on fire since the British Open the previous summer, had won over 50% of his starts since then, including both the British and the PGA as part of a streak of 7 wins in a row. It was expected Tiger would win this in honor of his late father, and the tourney was right there for the taking, but he missed some crucial putts and then had that disaster at 15.

Of course we Iowans love Zach
and were delighted when he won.
I still have the newspaper with this article.
He triumphed over the very best in the game
    including Tiger.
I loved it when the announcer said
'...and Zach Johnson, who is from...IIoowaaa
takes the lead at the 2007 Masters' (gulp)
Like this was the most improbable thing that could ever happen!
Everyone respects Tiger's game including me
but it was great when Peter Kostis
    remarked at 2:41:36
    'When the opportunity presents itself
    Tiger rises...'
And from then on Tiger did just the opposite!
Zach played his short game well and won by 2 strokes.
Its also ironic that Iowa University would not
    grant Zach a golf scholarship
so he went to Drake University.
Of course now Drake has an alumnus
    Who has two major wins.

      @isualum13 4 года назад +1

According to the usga, for a stroke to count, the player needs to be intending to hit the ball with their swing. Tiger is clearly trying to avoid the ball mid swing.
Similar to what happenned to Zach in the 2019 masters when he hit the ball during a practice swing on the tee box and he was able to re tee with no penalty.
Since Tiger was actively trying to not hit the ball here and he was on the tee, I would imagine a re tee would have been allowed had he made contact with the ball on this swing
When on the tee box or putting green, if you inadvertantly hit the ball, it can be replaced at no penalty. Anywhere else if you hit the ball inadvertantly the stroke counts and the ball is played as is.
I am no expert, just looked it up and this is what the usga posted after zach's situation last year.

I agree. Even Nick Faldo mentioned that it was not allowed on the course. They deserved to lose their tickets. The greens are too close to the tee offs and that kind of shouting is disturbing to those putting.

And the 2007 Master's winner is Zach Johnson that is why they are showing Tiger Woods on camera taking his 2nd place "victory" walk instead of Zach's reaction once he knew he won. A perfect example of why I became a Tiger hater.

Never seen someone hit so many 3w’s at the Masters like Tiger did on #2, #8, finally hits a driver on #11 and flares it badly to the right if he was hitting his driver half way decent, might of had a chance on 18 tee, but he obviously had very little confidence with the driver. 2nd shot on 15 was the worst shot I have seen Tiger hit when in contention.

Dumbest question ever by Peter Kostis asking Phil Mickelson if his loss at Winged Foot had anything to do with his poor final round. Masters is nothing like a U.S. Open course, and Mickelson was really never in contention in the final round.
I think Zach Johnson is the shortest driver of the ball, relative to the field, to have won a Masters. Larry Mize was a relatively short driver of the ball who won the Masters. Mize ranked 128th in driving distance in 1987 the year he won, but Zach Johnson was 169th in driving distance in 2007.
