- It took eight years and a return to Carnoustie for Europe to find its next major champion after Paul Lawrie. This was assured with a play-off between Padraig Harrington and Sergio Garcia but the return to the mighty Angus links also brought back memories of Jean Van de Velde’s late collapse.

Another great upload from the Open, thank you very much
Strange to think this. But if you said to the first pairing we see on this video "Between you two, you will win the next 3 Opens" They probably wouldn't have believed you?
Indeed. If you said the next 5 open winners would be Harrington, Harrington, Cink, Oosty and Daz Clarke, that would have been deemed mental
These final round videos are just the best 👍
I love that these full rounds are being posted. Highlight reels just don’t tell the full story for golf junkies like myself. But I have no idea why they took the leaderboard graphics and player titles with yardages off of these broadcasts… it’d be awesome if they could add them back in or just post the videos as they were…
Hey Ben, glad you are enjoying the full round coverage. The video we upload is the footage we receive from the world feed, which is without graphics and overlays. It is the individual broadcasters who add these on but hopefully you still enjoy these and many more to come!
@@golfranda I also want to say congratulations for making this telecast available. Thank you.
@@golfranda But the graphics start to appear on this video roughly three hours in?
This was an incredibly compelling day of golf. Harrington was clearly in the zone (except for the 18th in regulation), but it is hard to believe Garcia didn’t win this tournament. While Garcia was a little leaky, he burned so many edges while putting. He just needed one of those to drop and he would have won it. As it was, he had ten years more to wait for his first major championship.
Ye, remember this live. And looking back Garcia was so close withany putts. Just wasn't his day. But as an Irishman delighted it went Padraig's way
1:38:50 is why. He sucked at putting
Harrington played the 18th hole In the Playoffs The way Van de velde should have in 1999.
Thx for sharing this grace game
Im really enjoying this telecast. Almost tragic when the announcers talk about Sergio coming so close to winning a major and remembering that Sergio won his first and only major 10 years later.
50:48 Oh man I miss seeing this type of emotion on the course. No one seems to care this much on the current PGA Tour 😪
Sorry, but that’s nonsense. You must be watching with your eyes shut.
After Sergio hit the iron off the tee and got it into play, you almost think he should have laid up on the second shot. I really think that calling holes par 4 instead of par 5's actually makes people play different. It shouldn't matter, but if this hole was called a par 5 Sergio very well may lay up on the second shot, but psychologically, nobody would ever lay up there if they call it a par 4, which it was. There are some pretty long par 3's on the PGA tour, and some have trouble right around the green. If they called those holes par 4's, many would lay up, but nobody is ever laying up on a par 3. And of course they are all wrong about it because it doesn't matter what you call par on a hole.
The announcers keep using the terms "game" and "match" (instead of "pairing") which is confusing as this is not a "match play" event. The only match is the one between the player and the golf course. "Stroke play" and a score in relation to par. Lowest score wins.
The greatest (dumbest) matchplay comment in golf history was Frank Nobilo said it was almost like match play, after Molinari put one in the water on 12 at the Masters and got double. I mean, there were at least ten players with a chance when he said that, likely the most ever in Masters history with the final group heading to 13. Unreal.
in scotland and the uk (where the sport was invented) each grouping or pairing is called a match. that's why they announce at the tee off for example - "Match number 26, on the tee from the USA, Tiger Woods"
Sergio’s putt at 1:38:50 is a microcosm of why he didn’t win more majors. Gas job, BIGLY
I do think the bunker raker really cost Sergio, took the lad ages to rake it. Waited for yonks to hit that 2nd shot.....wait didn't help at all
Thrilled
Wish Paul broadhurst could’ve won at least one major before senior tour
I love these commentators. Who are they?
Are you kidding me you dont know who they are
One is a past major winner....others played in countless Ryder cups, winning loads. Anyway, Sam Torrance, mark James, Wayne Grady, Peter allis, Andy cotter and Dougie Donnelly
Wayne Grady is good, and Peter Aliss is the best ever. The others are terrible.
As usual tiger is out of it,yet they show every shot of him cussing his way around.classless
A total jerk who got his a** kissed by the golfing press every round!
Romero Harrington and Garcia all choked here. Harrington and Romero were the worst chokes. Harrington ran the exact opposite as Norman in the majors. So lucky to win three majors.
Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. You can stop now - everyone got the message about your personal contempt for Harrington.
no tiger
Els' bogeys on 14 and 16 quietly cost him a spot in the playoff. Another near miss for Ernie.
Ah fantastic great day
Romero choked.
