  • Zoggs Butterfly Technique video aims to help with the rhythm and positioning of the body during this stroke. The more rhythmic you are in the stroke, the easier it becomes... Take a look!

100% correct, use the hip to set your rhythm. I have had using this method for almost one years. Now I can do one hour in water. Thanks again.

even with a burkini and no coach, I learned to do it in the nearby beach and the pool of my gym. It took me few months to completely master it just by practising a lot and watching tutoriels like yours. THANKS for the video and you re right, everybody can learn anything not just the butterfly stroke. Now when I perform it in the beach curious people ask me if I am a professional swimer. You got your thumb s up.

i have the best fly in my group because butterfly is all about the chest press and release. it gives you that rythem and makes it easier to glide through the water and make it look effortless. you just have to press your chest down and that does basically everything for it.

helpful video for getting the rhythm of the stroke. I am a mediocre butterfly swimmer, but as I improve, I find the stroke exciting and just cool to execute. My flaw in BFly is to rush the arm stroke, losing what glide I get from the Dolphin motion and not flexing my hips enough. I suggest the one arm Bfly drill. I also review the stroke at the shallow end standing up with arm motion, hip flexion. cheers, all.

If the rhythm and timing are correct it is not necessary to be enormously strong to make progress in butterfly. I started to get a bit more of a feel for the body movement when I started to imagine my body movement like a whip, albeit a slow one, with a gentle start in the abdominals and progressively releasing energy through to the feet. Just try gently lifting the arms out of the water with correct timing and land them gently in front, it just may surprise you. If you are having to use strength look into the composition of the stroke and get the rhythm correct. I am 61 and I feel I with a little more practice I will be away. I need to work more on fitting in the breath effectively
If your stroke is strength dependent you will burn a lot of energy, as I 'm sure you will be aware!
(See the Shaw way Alexander technique vids)

for me the key is the co-ordination between the arms and the kick under water...pl note that as the arms push back to the hip, the legs kick in tandem...together they propel the head up ...also the elbows should exit first...

success with butterfly is all down to correct head position and not over complicating what most people consider to be a really difficult stroke to learn - it really is just a series of surface dives and all children should be taught this when they start to learn rather than loads of ridiculous kicking practices

@beatrixme well, if you do competitive swimming. In an hour, we would have probably swam something around 3,000 yds. and then another hour, another 3,000 yds. thats why my entire calorie intake just like.... disappears, so i have to eat, like many other swimmers, something like 3,500 calories a day.
