Thank you! I'm new to home ownership and kinda intimidated by all those wires sticking out for the different zones when my irrigation stopped working. I watched your video, bought a new panel, and followed your instructions. Saved $$ from paying someone else doing what you showed was easy to do. Thanks, again!
I was in your shoes years ago before RUclips existed. I learned a lot from an older neighbor. Thanks to RUclips, we can now all work as neighbors sharing information to help others.
Thank you for posting this video. I just bought a different model and been trying to work up the courage to install it. You made it look easy and uncomplicated and gave me the needed motivation to do it myself.
Thank you for this video. My control panel ( Rain Bird) went out. As a female whose husband became disabled, I’ve had to take on a lot more household responsibilities. I feel as if I could this myself after watching your video. Thank you so much.
thanks for the video. seems pretty easy.. my old rainbird went out.. it's about 15 years old.. so i just went to home depot and bought one so will follow your instructions
@@DIYFixer331 - it did look intimidating because i don't like wires.. lol just saw this video and it made it easy.. took me 10 minutes and i have a sprinkler system that works
I am on my second Rain Bird SST1200OUT. The first lasted just 4 years and lightning quite literally blew it off the wall. I am buying another because of the ease of operation. I have to figure out how to protect it better. I am installing a ground rod and home made surge protector (1 amp fuses and MOV) for each of the control wires. The internal MOV's did not do a good job of clamping, the copper foil exploded from the PCB. This was a very direct strike and probably a one time occurrence.
It is very unfortunate that your box suffered a strike. As you indicated it is probably a one-time thing. I would not hesitate to replace it with a new box. The issue is not likely to occur again!
quick question. how did it "go bad"? mine is acting real goofy like losing programming and not running individual zones. did yours just conk out all together?
There are a number of things that can and will cause a board to go bad with electronic components including, heat, cold, moisture, poor design and build, and other factors. There is noting we can do but replace a unit that goes bad.
It seems that Rain Bird did not do a good job of having the pvc tubing with the wires connected to the bottom of the unit. I am not happy that they did not make a special opening at the bottom of the unit to make a connection just like the Hunter unit was set up, with the pvc tubing coming right up to the bottom of the control unit.
I am very satisfied with this model’s features, function and user friendliness. Periodically check panel as a power outage may deprogram date and time settings. Does anyone know how to replace the battery ?
I just replaced my 15 year old Orbit with the Rain Bird SST Sprinkler. I'm having one issue, when I set it to manually water one zone it comes on but I can't set for how long to water. When I push the arrow key per the instructions the time of day changes. Any thoughts on why I can't set show long to water?
Don Lang, I was actually turning the dial to the specific zone to set the run time. The daily must be positioned on the specific zone that you would like to set.
@@DIYFixer331 The 12 Zone model has a 2032 lithium coin cell inside. A bit involved to open it that far with a half dozen screws in the back, but rest assured, you can change it. But it backs up settings, not the clock so it will last a long time. The clock runs 3 days on a super capacitor.

Couldn't have installed a new panel without you! You saved me so much money. Thanks!
It's great to know that the video helped!

Glad I could help
Thanks sooo much. Had my 15 year old follow these steps and he was so proud.
Excellent!
I saved myself around $300 dollars just by watching your video THANKS 🙏
I did install it myself and it's working great.
@Feedy Rondon, Hreat to hear that! That's the beauty of RUclips! We are all work8ng together!

There is no doubt you can do it on your own. Please reach out if assistance is needed.
Thanks for the video. For some reason I had a hard time getting the white power plug in.
Thanks for posting this, after watching this I was able to swap mine out!
Perfect!
Followed step by step and it installed perfectly. much better than paper instructions.
Thanks!!
Excellent!
Thanks for the great video I just installed it following your directions
Congratulations on your successful installation! That is awesome!

Replacing the controller is somewhat intimidating, but it's fairly easy. No doubt you can do it!

Very helpful. Not nearly as intimidating as I once thought. Thanks for the video.
No, you can do it!
Thanks, my Hunter units has been giving me fits. You make it seem so easy to switch out.
Yes, I also was experiencing problems with a Hunter. The Rainbird was an easy replacement and has been excellent!
Thanks for the video!!
Thank you for your detailed and video 🌻🌻
Thanks for your video. Do you know what type of backup battery it uses, and how to replace it? I didn't see this in the manual.
The internal rechargeable battery is not intended for replacement.

So, how has it been working? Thumbs up.
@ChuckP25, Everything worked well up to the point when we sold our home. It was a simple plug and play switch.
What's the blue connector labeled "Master valve" used for?
Thanks for this video but what about MV how we can fix water pump?!?
Good stuff thanks
When did you set the start times? I ask because I'm having trouble setting mine up. Thx
Don Lang, I set the start time at the 12:37 minute mark in the video.
Great video!

What is the master terminal for?
I don’t recall such a terminal within the system and have since sold the home.

Not the greatest design!
Thank you!
I have same unit. Any idea how to shut off a second watering time per day for zone 4? I can’t get time #2 to show “off” like time 3 and 4.

When I want to use the Auto Run feature, I cannot alter the run time at all. Is that feature, therefore, not available? Thanks. Terry
The run time can be adjusted for auto run, I encourage you to check again and also review the panel's manual.
Why did you turn it off after each setting?
Don Lang, I was actually turning the dial to the specific zone to set the run time. The daily must be positioned on the specific zone that you would like to set.
Right hand is in front of camera view when connecting the wires.
Six zones, six wires (plus white common wire). The only hard part is making sure what you want to be zone one valve is connected to zone one, etc.
My rain wire has only 1 not 2 ? So which one should I put the brown rain wire in ? Thanks
Did you need to turn a breaker off to do this?
The irrigation panel has a 120V cord that plugs into an outlet. It is recommended that the cord remains unplugged until the wiring is completed.
How do you replace the battery when its time?
The internal rechargeable battery is not intended for replacement.
