I just can't get behind having heroes in the battlepass. Maybe if it was a different game, but after playing overwatch the way its been I just can't agree with it. I'm not against battle passes as an idea. I actually think it could be fun to have actual rewards to work towards. However having to unlock a hero through a battle pass just ain't it
Neither. Battle passes should be just cosmetics, not content.
Im fine with it since i understand why they did it , they said the same thing themselves but basically since they put it at level 55 people will grind til they get kiriko , they’re more likely to get bored if they unlocked kiriko right away since they have no goals basically
@@dyns people have lives outside of gaming all day, and with the little time we have to game, we dont always spend it on one game. i understand putting cosmetics behind a limited time exclusive grind, but an actual character in limited amount battle pass makes absolutely no sense.
also forcing people to play and grind for a character, rather than offering it right off the bat, goes to show how little faith the developers have in their own product and the longevity of it.
If the game is good, people will keep playing, u dont have to force people to grind, this is just a desperate attempt at keeping the player base active.
@@AmusingMusic Don't you get it right away if you pay the $10?
@@AmusingMusic they're not forcing, you still can unlock the hero after the season ends, it'll become something similar to valorant unlocking their agents
The heroes on the Battle Pass is done for one reason, the increase of engagement statistics. Outside of sales, the other things shareholders look at to determine success of products is daily/monthly active users. By putting the heroes on the Battle Pass, it greatly increases the likelihood of people to regularly login which increases those stats, so even if they never spend a dime, it's still adding to "success" in shareholder terms.
They already admitted that's the reason, they flatout said they placed heroes in the battle pass because that's what people engage with the most.
True. Free to play games are judged by their "retention" values i.e. how many people are playing and keep playing the game. It all boils down to attracting "whales" to the game who will spend ridiculous amounts of money in it.
Modern game industry has perfected the best tools for monetizing and keeping up the engagement for free to play games. Sad thing is that engagement isn't equal to enjoyment of the game. At best it can feel rewarding but most of the time it's just busywork and grind.
Until people realize the value is very low and that it isn't going to contribute in solving how awful the gameplay feels now...
@@kunmppari6674 yea but at least grinding and playing the game has more purpose rather than lose or win and be toxic lol. It encourages people to get in groups and play the game
@@aeonbloodmoon3180 The grind literally puts an emphasis on the winning and losing and eventually increases toxicity in games.
If you like grind, hey all the power to you! but for me the gameplay in on itself should feel rewarding enough to make you want to invest in the game.
Of course making challenges and battlepasses doesn't mean I can't just have fun in the game but when they decide to lock away parts of the gameplay behind the grind THAT'S where the problems start to seep in.
tl;dr Grind is OK just don't make it essential part of the game
As a relatively newer overwatch player, I enjoyed playing the game because it had all the characters available and I could just play whatever mode I wanted without it feeling like a job. With the battle pass, I feel like they're forcing me to play the game just to be able to have access to the characters and outfits. They're making it feel like it is to me

Good info. I am 36 years old and I just hate where gaming is (and heading). The indie scene is promising, but these AAA studios have become too big for their own good. Constant problems with employees and consumers a like and releasing broken, unfinished games.. I mean they just want us to accept it and move on like all this is par for the course. I say F that noise.

This I can relate to, it feels like games have been degrading over time. There are some really great games out there still.
The market has shifted with the popularity of mobile and free-to-play, unfortunately I don't think many players would be willing to pay for the release of the second game and they needed to adopt the f2p model to keep the game active (multiplayer games depend on active players to keep queue times down and community activity alive).
Unfortunately, these games do need to be funded somehow. Development and keeping the services running costs money and with the recent pushback to lootboxes and other gambling related mechanics (see gatcha), battlepasses are considered widely more acceptable in the game-as-a-service space.
@@hipunpun that's my whole gripe. I understand completely that they need to make money, I just think the idea of F2P is anything but and these "business models" become more predatory with each passing year. Gaming (from bigger studios anyways) is no longer about having fun and creating something awesome. It's seems to me the only questions that are being asked is "how much money can we make?" and "how can we make more money?"
When i was young, I wanted to work in an AAA studio. But after spending years striving toward that goal, I learn more and more about the industry and where it’s heading. I now lost my passion and interest in most AAA game, and working in animation industry instead.
It's not about how much it costs or how fast you can unlock a hero, it's the principle of splitting up the community everytime a new hero is released. Something they promised they wouldn't do, that was the whole idea of deleting OW1 and bring everyone over to OW2.
Promised? First time? 😅
That brings up an interesting question: how do players who didn't level their BP to 55 in the previous season unlock the hero from that past season? Do those past heroes just automatically unlock for everyone?
@@TheOnlyJohnAbraham You'll need to do some stupid challenges to unlock the heroes you missed before.
Good thing they dont actually splitting up the community and just lock a hero behind some grind... everyone can still play with anyone else. Overwatches statement its 100% true, EVERY game locks almost all chars behind some gameplay or paywall : Apex, lol, valorant literally every big game right now. Its VERY fair that the hero is unlucked a bit later, since they give all other 35 heros for free instant...
Pay $30 a year for all the new heroes, it’s a good deal, and if you play it enough to care about the new heroes you might as well, it costs $60 to begin with so that can get you 2 years of battle passes.
This has changed my mindset from being a completionist and collecting all the collectables to only grinding for specific heroes that i actually like and play
Being a completionist in 2022 is equivalent to self-harm. The veteran OW players are in for a rude awakening once this new monetization drops.
Yea, people should be spending their time getting things they actually want and will use.
if im not mistaken you need all heroes to play competitive, so if you are a ranked player idk about that!
@@arthurbarboza6258 if u don’t have 36 heroes you’ll be just fine w 35😑
Let’s not exaggerate here, tho it is scummy to lock it behind a lot of play time for a game so focused on character picks
That died to me the moment they first announced twitch rewards years ago. I'm not watching someone else play the game for hours on end just to be able to complete my own collection. I haven't spent any more money on the game since and I'm not even going to play OW2 because I'm sick to death of fomo passes. Loved the game when it launched, can't stand it now.
I can tell you've put a LOT of effort into this. Thanks a lot for being the one to crunch the numbers to help inform us about what's to come, really appreciated!
I think my biggest problem with all of the monetization is that a majority of these systems had already been in place from OW1 and there's been nothing groundbreaking for the genre. The biggest draw originally for me was the OW2 coop campaign, so once that comes out I'm imagining another slew of microtransactions along with the box price of the game... assuming they ever release the campaign.
It's in their plan that they revealed, PvE is scheduled for next year and it will be pay-to-play.
this aged well
I just want to thank you for being critical of this -- almost every Overwatch streamer/content creator I've watched since this news came out has been trying to justify it for Blizzard.
It is justified. It'll allow blizzard to have funds to continue bringing new content to the table. End of story. Don't want to support it? Good thing it's free to play! I don't see how people dont understand this.
@@XxCaptRedBeard ratio
@@XxCaptRedBeard They could just make it the same way Apex does, no ?
Yes this. Too many shills
Well sure. Blizzard has created amazing incentives for big streamers to consider every single word that comes out of their mouths pertaining to Blizzard, lest they potentially bite the hand that feeds them.
It’s great to hear a content creator actually review this information with honesty and skepticism; many of the other people I’ve watched are very forgiving and disingenuous. Thanks Sty!
Yeah, to me this very much a mixed battlepass. Its definitely not the best one ever made since it locks off core features like heroes and doesn't give you back currency, but its also far from the worst system since you still get a lot and is pretty cheap at $10 especially as you get instant access to the hero. And unlike a lot of free to play games where you have basically diddly squat unlocked at the beginning as a free-to-play player, you basically get more than a full game's worth of characters to play with from the start.
The way I personally view this pass is that it's basically a fighting game character dlc with extra cosmetic rewards attached to it. I'm essentially paying the regular $6 for a new character plus an additional $4 for all the other cosmetic rewards.
I think majority of content creators have been very skeptical of the pass and cost to time needed to unlock the rewards.
@@trevordavis6830 You kinda get currency back, not enought for a whole BP, but it's something.
@@Juan-sq9hb U can literally get OW coins with the Battle Pass AND every day/week with challanges...what more do yall want? 😅
But....purchasing a hero with skins, sprays, etc for $10 is a good value. ..for 5 heroes, it's an INSANE value!! - Your Overwatch youtube channel said something to this effect lol.
It also means if you take a break from the game you are permanently behind other players unless you open your wallet. Because heroes will go into the shop after their two month forced grind expires.
it is said in the video, that if you miss a character from a previous season, you can unlock them by doing "challenges"
@@luisibarra7656 So what happens if you miss multiple characters? What happens if you join the game in 2 years time? You're now missing 8 characters (Starting with Kiriko), the challenges are obviously going to be a huge grind, so unless you make the game your job, you'll always be behind, what happens when the "locked" characters are overpowered?
What if a character like Brigitte was locked behind a paywall or a 3-4 week grind? What happens when neither of your supports, or your tank (if the character happens to be a tank) have payed or ground out that character? You're now sitting at a massive disadvantage, and we all know just how massively disadvantaged teams were that didnt run GOATS
@@Xovnnas it's only $10. And ive already unlocked every character that needs to be unlocked you only gotta play 180 games

@@LanzkiTgaming Free to play? I bought the collector's edition of Overwatch 1 and I can't play that game any more. They took it away from me.
The other reason it's 540 instead of 500 is that completing all 11 weekly challenges every week is a bit daunting. This gives some leeway when you only get 8-10 challenges completed every once in a while.
They need to be careful with making so many challenges revolve around wins. I see this get corrected in mmo's with pvp often. They usually end up going with games played instead and wins count for double. For example rather than have 10 wins as a challenge make it 20 games played but a win counts for 2 games played. That way if you go on a losing streak you still get some kind of progression. No one wants to play for hours and not get any progression from it.
Right, and they do this with the current weekly challenges--Blizzard knows how hard it is to win games, never mind 10 in a row!!
Thats those 10 wins are just 1 of the 11 challenges all of which are about wins
I actually think this could be a good thing to avoid people throwing. And if they get a lot of in game currency then maybe they will take a closer look to people who win a bit to much due to cheating. So cheaters and smurfs are not their source of income (smurf account) but they threaten their income so they will take more serious measurements against them.
This. Having to win every game creates really unforgiving atmosphere for you the player and for your teammates. Constantly having your mind in grindset is sure way to burn yourself out of the game. From my personal experience I have never felt worse than back in the day when I "had" to win those weekly events, it's a sure way for producing more toxicity in your games.
They have done these challenges before and nobody seemed to mind it then, not sure why this is any different
Playing games with battle passes burns me out so much faster than playing those without. At this point I think I'm just going to buy what I want from the store and possibly buy a battle pass if I've made it to the end of a season and unlocked a large chunk of it.
They put heroes into mandatory BP and not (also) in the store (not until the next season, at least) to force people like you to buy the Premium Battle pass anyway, else you can choose cosmetics here and there in the store, yes, but will miss the new hero, unless grinding till level 55 of each season.
Yeah I have the same experience, battlepasses also steal so much of my time, time i could have spent on other games. And in some cases battlepasses make me play a game less, not more. When I grind I only do the most effective grind possible, and miss out on most of what makes the game fun, and when im done with the BP i stop playing, so i wont burn myself out, but im already burnt out, because I dont play the fun parts.
So honestly, I think I'll cancel the preorder of the WP pack, I dont want to get invested, and for OW2 to monoplise my time.
Yh. I only buy apex battle pass when im like teir 90, and theres like 15 days left.
In most games without buying the battle passes you won’t make it too far into the reward levels, many have xp boosters from the battle pass that helps progress faster.
@@crystallkingh3048 how I feel I think I’m going back to Paladins at least that game had those who bought the games founder pack still receive new champions for free and as an instant unlock.
A problem people dont seem to get is that when Blizzard says we're getting 35 heroes they're being very disingenuous. We're not getting 35 heroes.
That'd imply we could always freely swap to another role and such. Support players are getting 7 Supports and will have to grind out for that 8th one that will no doubt be broken at launch and if you dont have that one you'll be relegated to something sub par or get shouted at for not having the new hot shit. You'll be a handicap to your team or if you get the new support and chose to play tank and none of your teammates have the new hot shit they'll handicap you either way. It's a complete lose/lose situation because the other option is to make the new hero not have any obvious advantage, meaning the current cast all will be able to perform the same basic funtions and now we just have a bland watered down game with a lack of character identity.
Cause really theres no way bliz will ever remove hard counters. They've proven time and time again that they are too incompetent to do so. Its been some 5 years of them saying that there arent hard counters. Syms totally gonna take on Pharah now guys!
Congrats fan😊

Exactly my thought, the new support has so much to offer and seems completly broké i. The hands of a skilled player. But I must say I like that all the heroes that came out reward skill and are no noon champs, but as they scale with skill they become very relevant in higer ranks and dominate, a player who can aim, has good game sense and movement will become completly unkillable on the new support and can prob get crazy value
You can't play comp if you don't unlock all the heroes, the point you made about being shouted at or handicap is invalid.
@@possum4041 also op obviously owns ow1 and will get the new support on day 1. why cry?
You'll start with 8 supports, Tank players will start with 8 tanks and Dps players 19, the only people that'll start with 34 are new players
Love how honest your takes are sty and ty for being my only major news source for this info
1 thing I'll add. The only screenshot we have on the challenges are on the weekly tabs. We still have no idea about the daily, seasonal, competitive, lifetime and hero challenges. I don't expect them all the give out coins but 540 is a weird number. It may add up to 1000 with all of them combined.
Also, I feel that daily challenges will severely impact gameplay. In a game so focused on coordination and cooperation, having daily challenges makes people focus more on their challenges than the actual game
I bet, the dailies is how you get the other 500 ish coins. There's probably just enough coins to earn to buy the battle pass in the same season. just barely I bet
iirc they said there would be a separate currency that could be used for ow1 cosmetics and other things, If anything they would give us those, u gotta remember these models are predatorry, they wanna give out as little as possible for free, but just enough to get u to play, so I doubt they would give more than 540 a season
@@user-gh3yn3nn5u They’ve already confirmed that challenges will not force people to play in unnatural ways. It’s stuff like “Play 5 Games” or “Do 10K damage”. Those are incredibly easy & achievable challenges.
@@user-gh3yn3nn5u we'll see, it could be simple stuff like play games/win games etc
the thing that makes me sad is that in other games i can just say “i dont HAVE to buy the battle pass cuz its all cosmetic”. but in OW2, since the heros are gonna be locked behind it, as a more competitive player i feel forced to get it so i can play the new heroes as early as possible. im still excited for the game, but this does upset me
emm many games does this just not in the battle pass way. valorant have something similar but they separate it into another section called "Agent contract"
well if you are competitive i have news for you, unless you have EVERY hero, you cannot play competitive.
@@RainbowsAurora this isnt true, that was a rumor. u can play competitive without every character unlocked
@@Funz i hope so
You can get it for free if you grind though
I really hate the idea of putting heroes behind a battle pass aswell, I think the community is really gonna complain and some content creators are just gonna keep riding blizzard
Also Sty, We can't say for sure if 540 coins is the total amount because there are 3 tabs at the top for Daily, weekly and Seasonal challenges. There might be more up for grabs in the other tabs.
I'd be ok if it was purely cosmetic, but locking out new characters is insane. You need to have all of them to play comp, what happens if you are a new player after 2 or 3 years of OW2? The grind would be impossible..
It really hurts because I loved overwatch with my entire heart for so many years, and seeing them just take the easy way out to money by effectively deciding matches before they even begin by who has BP and who doesn't, breaks my heart 💔
A majority of people will play not because it's fun and enjoyable, but to grind the battlepass. When you only care about monetization and not your playerbase's enjoyment of the game you created, you've gone too far
A 2 or 3 year old character won't have nearly the same value as a brand new one. The "challenges" required to unlock the old ones will probably get very easy, or they might just add the older heroes to the hero pool so everyone has access
Since this was announced, I wonder if this is why Kaplin left, I think not locking characters out was a very strong mantra for him and if management wanted the money he might have just said, yeah I'm done.
100% it was like that
Yup for sure, plus the fact that Blizz was going through some cancel drama at the time.... made the choice easier.
If you're the Game Director, but other people are telling you how to direct the game, are you really the Director?
@@i.r.weasel7042 Even game directors have to answer to someone.
Kaplan failed as game director of Titan, and then mismanaged OW's IP into a meme people dunked on. For me the question isnt why he left, question is why he was the lead so long.
thank you stylosa! this was very informative and appreciated! It truly is unclear unless you take the time you have to gather this info.
My biggest worry is that as they stated they are doing away with hard counters, which makes sense when you're locking heroes. However that was a big identity of the game, switching to counter heroes.
@SpaceBird never thought about it this way. You have a big point
@SpaceBird My genji was good enough where people would always end up switching to counter. I just wanna play the first ninja in an fps that I ever saw. But yanno, every game would end up with a Zarya,Sym, and Moira at some point.
But it doesn't happen half as much as it was originally meant to. How often do you see constant hero switching. I play fairly low level as a mostly casual player and you see the odd switch but it's rare and far from essential, particularly without tons of shields, but even OWL isn't full of switch to counter moments.
@SpaceBird Yes, I do think it was fun. Learn how to outplay, or perform poorly when people counter you.
@SpaceBird I completely disagree with you.
I will never understand people defending the heroes locked behind a battlepass. Switching heroes is literally the point of the game, even if they're going away from that type of gameplay the core game was built on that principle so it's legitimately impossible to completely separate from it. People will shell out money for cosmetics, this is just greedy.
If a character is locked behind something you make it seem like the only way to get the hero is if you get the battle pass. YOU CAN UNLOCK THE CHARACTER FOR FREE BY GRINDING LEVELS! That means the character isnt locked behind anything. It's a free game, where you can unlock all characters for free. Stop complaining. Entitled much?
@@XxCaptRedBeard 1. A video game shouldn’t be a “grind”
2. There are ways to monetize a game without putting heroes behind a paywall. Think much???
@@FeralVyrux it's not a paywall if you can unlock the character for free. Do you think much? If you want the character instantly, then pay up. If you want to play a free to play game without paying a dime, then grind. You're not entitled to anything

There’s literally so many ways to monetize the game with cosmetics yet they lock a core element of the game at level 55 in the battlepass. The game is meant to play by switching heroes. This will actually do the opposite and make people not want to play the game at all
Video games are meant to be fun not a fucking grind. People like you that think this is okay are literally too stupid to realize how stupid you are
@@XxCaptRedBeard The hero is locked behind time, and time is money, so technically it is a paywall. The problem is, at one point, you won't be able to switch to the new hero because you don't have it unlocked yet, which is likely to cause problems.
I wouldn't mind the battle pass being used for cosmetics, but I feel locking out heroes is wrong.
I don't want to grind to unlock a hero that I possibly won't use too often. This was a feature that was promised to be free in overwatch 1.
I would counter that by saying you can always test the heroes in the range and arcade and see if they’re even worth your time.
If you don’t think you’d play them? You can save you money yeah?
Well if you wont use them often, let's say you are a tank main and never play support. Well then why bother grinding to get her at all? She will be easier to obtain in season 2....

@@deshawnthomas the thing about ow is the fluidity that you have being able to swap characters depending on your enemy’s team comp. Changing that by locking hero’s behind a pay wall just seems wrong, especially when the player base of ow 2 will be almost all previously ow 1 players.
Just wanted to thank you stylosa for being the only content creator that’s taken a neutral stance on this. It’s been gross seeing the corporate shilling from 95% of CC. A big issue that everyone is just brushing under the rug is people can enter comp games without having every character unlocked. You’re effectively gonna have games that will be decided by who bought/grinded the battle pass. They made comp pay to win and the fact all these streamers who only play comp haven’t brought it up is disgusting.
I’m a mostly comp player and will no longer play the mode once ow2 goes live
This is a huge red flag if characters that can affect the whole meta are locked behind battle passes. Even if they're free (for now)
These hours one has to put into unlocking a hero are insane in my opinion. A nowadays almost dead game needs more fresh players otherwise it will die like Overwatch 1. I get the "let's make an even quicker buck" thinking of blizz as they put the heroes into the Premium Battle Pass, but this WILL hurt the queue times after season 1. Maybe the first 3 seasons will work quite well because of the Watchpoint Pack with its 2000 OW Coins and the season 1 Battle Pass, but i wouldn't be surprised to see many players jump ship as soon as they really do get the meaning of grinding 55 level / Tiers. Honestly most players will not reach that in one season, I'd assume.
It would have been way better to first get OW's reputation back to where it was in its prime and after Blizz PROVED themselves capable of upholding their promises (freequently updating/communicating, etc.) they can go ahead and start monetizing this aggressively. For me it feels like a short time cash grab, but maybe it is just me. I just do not believe Blizz anymore.
Anyways, again great video Sty!
Also like 2 months is to short for a battle pass.
Some of us think this is.an improvement!
@@skorpian1029 well we don't know how the xp system will work. 2 months could be too long or too short.
Other games have 3 months but by the 3rd month most people have completed or are finishing up the battle pass

They are putting lipstick on a a dead pig and trying to charge a premium it's kind of insane they think this will work.
@@skorpian1029 I agree, having to pay every 2 months is gonna get old
540 means each alternating season which to me just says "We considered doing the industry standard of letting you earn the next one by finishing the previous, BUT that wouldn't have made as much money, You get half"
And while Mythic skins being on the battlepass is nice, But they will 100% be selling them as well because otherwise, even if they put 2 of them in the passes without heroes, it would still take 5 years to catch up to heroes.
Why they locked heroes to the battlepass is even more worrying when they just outright went "Yeah that's where the money will be because it's what people care about"
The "Oh but you already have 35 heroes already locking the new ones to the battlepass isn't a big deal, It just takes 2-3 weeks of hardcore grinding to unlock them" to me screams that they were considering locking the previous cast and as for future unlocks I could be mistaken but I believe they have said you will just be able to buy them to skip the challenges,
I think the best part of this is you kinda predicted them locking the old hero’s away from new players LMAO
Thanks for the breakdown Sty - appreaciate it. Saves me a lot of time figuring it out myself.

I honestly enjoy this content from Stylosa a lot more. The calmer approach to the video has kept me engaged for the entirety of it.
Indeed. I was tired of the "over-hyped" actitude Stylosa always have.
agreed. I just woke up and would not take well to an overhyped stylosa rn lol
Yes, he was an unhinged weirdo. Toning it down is a good choice.
I think the pass needs to be earnable in a season with perfect attendance, with the trade off of not being able to afford skins without a money boost. The fact that you HAVE to pay to get the battle pass to unlock the real content kinda makes it not ''free to play'' as if youre not paying you will forever be behind the curve. If they combine this with ranked placement rewards we're going to get a tricky situation.
If they we're smart they would price it lower to get everyone to play straight away. Alot of people will avoid paying 9.99 just to try out comp. Keep in mind that some players may NEVER see competitive during their first year if they choose to play for free, which will really hurt the lower ranks.
Worst case you miss the quests and end up paying 120 per year. Im getting some serious daily quest vibes from this.
But it is free to play....OW1 is free now lol. If you want OW2 you have to pay.
Blizz must think we are idiots. Claiming that OW1 characters and content is now FTP doesnt make your OW2 hero monitization scheme any less scummy.
ive played overwatch for a little bit but not much in the past. so coming from a noob that can thankfully afford the battlepass and extras, this video was awesome. so thank you for all the hard work you put it. this deff made my decision easy. like you said its almost like purchasing a regular game but it pretty much includes everything a player may need to get started. im deff subbing because of this video. take care bud and have a blessed day
Hiding heroes has destroyed what little faith people had in this game. They killed OW2 before it has even been released.
If the levelling is the same as OW1 then I’m out, I’m not grinding 80 levels out every eight weeks, that’s insane
The complacency of the gaming community as a whole on battlepasses is so demoralizing...they've just been boiling the frog for years now and it's finally starting to work. Whenever you try to criticize the practice, many people will just want you to shut up, be happy, and consume anyways. They'd rather not accept the fact the game they love is preying on people, especially if it doesn't affect them personally. It's just $10 bro, just buy the battlepass. 🙄
Exactly. It’s kind of scary seeing how many people in the comments are defending this.
Gamers should protest bc it’s a literal scam. Forntite is trash and the start of this madness. Hoping one day a Bill gets passed around about not scamming customers for something they already bought.
It’s literally brainwashing. The industry spent the last decade conditioning people to accept this as the new normal. There’s still some fight back with millennials and older. Gen Z fell completely for it.
Back in my day everyone got the new hero on Day 1.
It looks like based on the UI, there will also be Daily, Season, Competitive, Lifetime, and Hero challenges that will also probably give coins? The article specifically mentioned daily in addition to weekly challenges so I don’t suspect that 540 will be the challenge coin cap you can get every season.
Yeah it's awful. Sure, the rewards are cool, but you literally need to be a hardcore player (per blizzard themselves) to actually earn the new hero on the free track, LET ALONE COMPLETE THE PREMIUM ONE.
Also - they said the mythic skins may be sold later on for (absurd) money, they're just in the BP only for now.
And heroes will also be sold in the store later, as well as be unlockable with challenges.
Not just that, but Blizzard will absolutely start selling extra customization for the skins
im not saying the battlepass is a good thing, but if you pay attention it says hardcore players could unlock Kiriko *in the first few weeks* and that the average player should easily be able to get her before the season ends. Again, i dont like the battlepass, just clarifying the message since you didnt get it
Honestly i think people are overreacting. Like yes battle pass heros locked so what. You can still earn these heros after the season, you can still play them in most arcade gamemodes. Its just quick play and comp it takes a bit of grinding so what. Im just glad its even possible to unlock for free. Some games would charge like 20 bucks for the heros
@@secondnova7555 seconded. i play apex and the amount of time it takes to unlock a new legend is absurd. having a hero be in a free battlepass which you can likely get before the season ends AND can be unlocked with challenges in future seasons is surprisingly fair when compared to the rest of the f2p market. plus blizzard's stats have already stated that the overwhelming majority of people who play don't really counterpick if ever or don't have large enough hero pools to. people are exaggerating.
Honestly I was quite excited for the game not too long ago but every new piece of info we get just deflates me. As long as they're locking anything gameplay-related away i'm not gonna give them any money.
All it takes is 1% of the players to mindlessly buy every MTX Blizz throws at them for them to make more money than just selling the game at a box price.
Like @@CuriosityMisledMe said, these Devs are truly dont care about the average player. They are looking for the whales. If they can get 5 whales, they will dump more money in than the 1000 average players
I love how you reviewed this topic, you are not purely negative you are looking at it from both sides and that makes it a lot more enjoyable to watch and way better to understand how all of this stuff will work. I am still not a big fan of heroes in the battlepass because it puts a barrier of entry to f2p players right from the start. If you dont pay up you have to grind it out. Now personally i love grinding, atleast grinding to get stronger like you do in MMOs for example. But here you grind to unlock a core gameplay feature. So if i WANT to play Kiriko because i like the characters looks and gameplay I now have to play the first few weeks as a character that I might not want to play. To me this is a huge barrier of entry and actually a bit of a turn of for Overwatch 2. I used to love the way they did this in Overwatch 1 where they even said that they dont want to lock new heroes behind paywalls. Now if this system helps the game survive a lot longer, its a good thing and we can all play overwatch as much as we like. The problem to me is still that Overwatch 2 doesnt differ much from Overwatch 1, its not really a second iteration of the game its more like a big update, so iam a bit worried that if they mishandle the new content and make it too hard to unlock AND the game doesnt feel fresh for the players they will lose a lot of players in the first few months or in the first year and this might damage the games community to a point where they have to monitize way harsher for the game to survive.
I get that this is the same in league of legends but honestly league has improved in this a lot as new accounts (and i have testet this) get loads of free champions that they can also disenchant to get the free currency and then unlock the champions you like. I would say it takes about 1 week of normaly playing the game to get most of the champions you actually want to play or that look interesting to you. To unlock everything it takes a lot lot longer and that is still pretty bad.
But you are right, we have to let this settle a bit and see how its actually like before we can really tell if this system fits Overwatch or not. Love the content and your top down view on this subject, really the best information I have seen ever since this battlepass system was leaked!
Good job on this video. Thanks for making it.
The fairness of a battlepass is measured by the amount of actual content in it (not sprays, voice lines, charms whatever else trash) AND how much time it takes to level it. Some games require 250 hrs in order to complete which is insane
@@peep4257 dead by daylight requires that much, or at least it did before, idk if they've changed it recently. the 250 hrs include waiting for lobbies obviously

The strawman argument "but they have to make money somehow" oh like going F2P and make the game fair so as many players would play it as possible while selling cosmetics and other stuff like season passes? I think I would find it rewarding to unlock a character in the free pass but shouldn't have it at an extreme level like it is now
Since the BP that have heroes on them are one season apart, you could theoretically save to buy them for free if you complete most of the challenges.
@styloza.. Either Im miss-hearing how you calculated the battle pass coins or you got it wrong but is it not 390 coins per week? It states above the coins complete weekly challanges so by that logic would it not be? 30×4 20×8 10×11 every week? or am I missing something, do the numbers along the side of the coins mean somthing else?
I just hope the backlash of heroes being in the battle pass becomes way too much for blizzard to handle and then they remove them. I just hope that happens, because I'm never buying the battle pass and it's not worth it, and it looks like I'll be able to offord every other battle pass (bc 540 coins per season are earned and you need 2 to be able to buy a battle pass for free)
I think it's fine I mean r6 has done it and no one has complained hell apex has this system since launch except you don't even get the new character in the pass

The thing I don't like about f2p, subscriptions/battle pass and microtransactions etc is that it's designed to obfuscate and remove control over spending, so that you potentially spend more than you're thinking. If you buy something at the store there is a price tag. Once you pay that price the item is yours. I prefer that kind of transaction because the cost and what you get is easy to understand and to consider. So instead of having to jump through hoops i'd rather just pay a price and then have the whole game with all it's features at my disposal.
I really agree. When i bought overwatch back in 2015 or something it was a really big deal. A lot of money for me. It still is a bug deal. Now the game i paid for is disappearing just for me to pay more to "play" the game. I liked loot boxes. You just got s little surprise :D.
I just want cosmetics to be "free" again.
Sadly this route is much more profitable for developers, because over the last 30 years gamers have become more and more mentally deficient, reaching a point they will blindly throw money at these predatory systems.
While developers certainly should be condemned. No one ever condemns those who encourage these systems by buying into them, which is the reason they have become so common place in games over the last decade
I bought quite a few loot boxes over the years. I did so because Kaplan and team earned it and compelled me to do so....and it was 100% cosmetics. Hero in BP is a slap in the face and it compels me to go play other games. If they don't completely change that before season 2 starts, I'm not only a lost customer I'll take every opportunity to warn others. Btw, appreciate the video, it was fair and honest (rare)
What happens when the season ends, does the hero get locked until you use coins or do you get it for free or you have to pay after the season?
Everyone trying to validate the actions of blizzard. Shame.
I know it's honestly infuriating watching most of the Overwatch RUclipsrs trying to sell us on this when they know full well that this is not ok. Just a bunch of sellouts in my opinion.
@@ES_DCSAVIOR101 exactly. Their livelihood depends on them so what can tehy do. People like flats are a prime example.
i think one of the problems is we would have already gotten new characters, cosmetics and new features and majority of the stuff on these new battles passes in ow1 if blizzard didn't abandon the game 3 years ago and i'm not sure if the decision to lock new hero's behind a battle pass is a good idea when your trying to win back your player base and gain new players. Plus the tone of the game changes when you're logging in to play overwatch not because it's fun but for the daily/weekly grind just to play the new hero or to get a cool skin.
The biggest problem ow2 faces is you have so many other games featuring a battle pass and tbh most people really only have the time or money to spend on one or two battle passes. Looking at ow2 competition i don't think ow2 has the quality or content atm to compete with it's peers and make people want to spend possibly hundreds of hours just to reach level 80 every season.Especially with blizzards horrible anti consumer friendly track record the bp could get worse.
thats what I'm thinking. Ow 2 just feels like a big elaborate attempt from blizzard to satisfy their greed more.
all of this content could've easily been in ow 1 in the past three years
No you would not have gotten much of anything if OW2 wasn't being made because the reason OW2 is being made is that OW1 doesn't make money. No Money = no Funding to make new heroes which = a truly Dead game. People only have the time or money to spend on one or two battle passes? Dude if people can't earn $10 in 2 months {$1.25 a week for 9 weeks($0.18 a day)} then they have bigger problems than how a game company choses to make money. They should go find their own way to make money and stop moaning.
@@mike21378 they don't get it. You see how many people proudly day hoe they've spent 0 dollars during ow1 previous 6 years? And then they wonder why blizzard and Activision are doing this now? @@WitheredDGX yeah, but the next hero won't be, and if you have a job and a social life and you play other games, then you definitely won't get enough coins or progress in the battle pass far enough to unlock the later heroes without paying

@Hi there Yeah and that definitely sucks, but they are still able to be earned for free. Its an incredibly tedious and bad system, but it still exists for those who don't want to spend the $10 on the premium pass.
Battlepasses that expire are a plague. If I pay for this I should be able to access it after 2 years when I play again.
Yet people still vouch for the pay-to-grind system, aka battle passes.
Overwatch 2 is thee example of hidden subscription in games.
Halos is great for not expiring
I will tell you what I am doing. As bland and default as possible. I will vote with my wallet.
Characters in a season pass model is alright for me. Most games do that anyway. I do think that unlocking a character should be an earlier tier say 30 not 55. The goal is to make the grind shorter for a character and more for skins (since they don't necessarily affect gameplay [only your preferences]).
Most games do that? Which ones?
It seems the only feature in games now a days that are put any work into by the development teams are the monetization features, remember the days of games having unlocks that the player had to earn and that was it, not premium unlocks, no loot boxes.
About the 540 coins number--one aspect of that, is that you don't have to 100% grind every weekly. The weekly rewards have tiers--tier 1 gives 30 coins, 2 gives 50, 3 gives 60.
So setting the number to 540 means 4 out of 9 weeks you only have to grind tier 2. Or, you can grind tier 1 one week and tier 2 another week and only have to grind 7 tier 3 rewards. Depending on how easy it is to get the first few tiers (10 wins isn't that hard to pull of casually playing) that means you can probably not play a couple weeks and still hit the magic 500 number by the end of the season.
Also, as others have said, there are supposed to be daily rewards as well, which (AFAIK) we don't have any info on for their rewards structure.
Love you Sty!! You're the best Overwatch content creator!!
I remember watching a video of a guy going over kiriko's abilities and all that, she can wake up people that have been put to sleep. Kinda crazy to be locked behind a battlepass if you ask me. You can't sleep main tank and just run it down anymore since kiriko just wakes em up.
yep now you have to bait her to use the 15 second delayed ability to completely disable a tank thats crazyyy
I'm honestly more interested in the time aspect. How much for 1 lvl? Difference between modes etc
They say it will take a 'hardcore player' multiple weeks (of grind I guess, I understand 'hardcore' as 'plays a lot' here) to unlock the new hero. Looks like a huge time investment, yet another game as live service capitalizing on FOMO (that's the main role of a battle pass) and expecting you to give it all your time. See Jim Sterling's videos about that kind of game.
Capitulation to battle passes being "ok" is just telling the greedy game companies that you are ok with them bending you over a barrel and you just taking it.
What they could’ve done and what I wouldn’t have mind doing as a semi casual semi hardcore player is give out some of those Coins within the BP itself so you earn enough in combination with the weekly challenges to buy the next seasons pass and then next year repeat the same....so basically paying for the pass once and then earning the next seasons pass through both the purchased battle pass and in game challenges.....that way grinding the pass is incentivised as well especially when a new hero would be releasing the next season
The only thing you might have missed, is that the graphic only showed weekly challenges. There may be coins available for daily challenges, too.
"May" is the crucial word here. can't talk about something when there are no infos about it. it honestly bugs me that there actually is no info about what the dailies will give you. If i would be mean spirited, i would say that's because they don't want you to see that to at least instill some form of hope, like you have right now.
But we have to be reasonable here. There might be some coins from dailies, but since they are dailies, i don't expect anything over the lower end of single digits.
There are 2 or 3 additional ways to unlock the new heroes outside the free battle pass. It will be unlockable by doing challenges and spending in-game currency. I think there was 1 more way to do it, but i can't remember 🤔
Using heroes that they "want everyone to have" as the catalyst to get people into the battlepass tells me they don't have confidence in their monetization system and don't think what they are selling has enough value without it. I hate a battlepass with all my soul but I would be fine with it IF heroes weren't in it. Simple as that.
I'm not disagreeing with you. The issue is no matter how much people complain online. Most players are gonna buy the battlepass. Everyone likes complaining in public but in private when no one is watching they'll justify it somehow and buy it. Happens all the time with battlepass. People don't even remember the days when people hated battlepasses as much as lootboxes. Now it's simply accepted. In the end whether you like it or not blizzard gonna get that money.
@@kylekgh Unfortunately you're not wrong. I just had hoped for better for Overwatch. I think if there was a mythic skin or something unique like that in every battlepass then they wouldn't need to put heroes in it. I still wouldn't be happy with the battlepass but I would have understood.

How much did you spend on cosmetics in OW1?
It sucks that you don't earn back your credits in the battlepass like most other battlepass games. Including call of duty which they also own.
Although the battlepass contains a lot of decent things by the looks of it, having the heroes locked in it and not being able to earn back your credits each season is very greedy.
The one thing I would say is if you are a Free To Play player and particularly new to Overwatch is there is plenty the stock line up of heroes will offer you. You don't necessarily want or need all the new heroes particularly in role queue and if you are a one trick... Assuming you don't want a new trick you are as free to play as possible.
I'm already playing a ton of OW now without even getting any stuff; so for the moment, I'm fine with BP cost. As long as the rewards grinds are fair and achievable without additional MT. Looking at you Diablo Immortal.
I kept a poker face throughout the whole video and information given by Blizzard. I would be fine even with big monetization if only it weren't for 5v5 and locked heroes. It's such a mood killer.
Yes just the fact that they took away the original game and decided to force us to play this really shows that they only care about making money.
@@user-gh3yn3nn5u I actually really like the original game and I still play it pretty often. I'm sad it's gonna be replaced forever.
I heard that the rewords of the battle pass can't be earned in later seasons. So effectively it's fomo. If you buy the battle pass you have to grind a bunch to get value out of it. And if you aren't grinding it you will lose value in your purchuse. It effectively makes it so you feel like you need to play to get full value out of your purchase.
Depending on how hard it is to get the best rewards from the battle pass this can hurt gameplay imo. Feeling forced to play overwatch may feel bad for many people. Overwatch was often nice since it didn't make you feel like you needed to play the game and you could just come back whenever. These grinding mechanics on battlepass may hurt the game in some ways. And if people aren't able to fully complete them and lose out on potential rewards . That may influence them on future battlepass purchases. This hurts people who already play other games and have to grind those too. Having to choose to grind between overwatch and another game is rough. And overwatch might not be the top game to pick when choosing between two of those games.
my thoughts exactly, i play ow casually. log in every other day and play like 3-5hrs everytime i log in depending on how matches go. i hate the thought of missing out on sweet skins cuz life happened. i would appreciate being given everything on the battle pass at the end of the season, this would give the hardcore players an incentive to be active (having badass skins sooner than most) and allow casual players like myself to still get their money's worth at the end of the season while also giving me a reason to invest constantly in the game every season. idk if anyone has ever brought this up.
Just like Warzone.
I appreciated the balanced review. I think you summarising it as $30/year (for hard-core players that complete the challenges) and $60/year (for those that may want to buy the passes up front to forgo the grind) is the bottom line. To me, that is still good value since there are many games I've paid more for that I didn't even play for a full year. Also, it ensures a healthy cash flow to support new content while lowering the bar for entry as free to play to ensure a bigger player base which hopefully translates to better match ups and queue times.
In the end, a battle pass is a pay as you go premium and you can start with just one to see if you like it. if you don't then don't buy it again. It's up to the devs to make it worthwhile to play and to want to pay. That is also what will keep them active in updating, balancing and developing. It's painful to imagine being a dev and knowing that the influx of cash for your game development happened in 2016 and you are still expected to produce something with little to no incentive or excitement. Feels more like someone hesitatingly taking some cash out of the retirement fund to pay for something and hoping it'll be good.
As if Blizzard wasn't continuing to be an incredibly profitible IP that had its own eSports league, conventions, investors, merchandise, other games, like come on, this is not some company that was working for charity at a lose, their profits only went down because of the sheer amount of internal chaos that became public and shady business practises.
This isn't creating 'healthy cash flow' this is taking an existing game, killing it and rereleasing it with barely anything new to justify it being a sequel to most people and then price gouging all of the content that even makes it a sequel in the first place. Locking characters behind a paywall in a game specifically made around character swapping is insane and them saying they're removing 'hard counters' is a lie (eg. sym vs pharah?). Cosmetics I couldn't care about at all but this like Fortnight only letting you use a pistol or only letting you survive you play for 5 minutes like its bonkers they made this decision and people are gonna jusify it and spend hundreds to play the game properly for a good few years???? Thank you Sty, for giving an honest review of the battle pass system while also explaining your skepticisms. I just watched "Your Overwatch"'s take on the BP and was completely shocked... I bought loot boxes in OW1 because I played the game so damn much and felt like Blizzard earned more than just the game purchase from me. As long as they keep this model consistent $30-$60 seems fair. My biggest worry is how long queue times for games will be. I don’t want to be stuck in support anymore just to play more than 2 games an hour.
I kind of understand why they put Kiriko so high up the battle pass for ftp players, since the ftp battle pass unlocks almost nothing, they had to keep them interested in the battle pass somehow, where as the premium battle pass unlocks a lot more stuff (and it's paid), so the premium players also have a reason to care about it outside of unlocking the new hero
It showed the weekly challenges earn you coins but maybe there are some other challenges or something for you to earn the next season battle pass for free when you have purchased the first one. All battle passes that I know of have allowed a premium player to grind enough to earn the next battle pass without having to pay any additional amounts in following seasons as even more of an insensitive to buy it.

Just looking at your sum of the coins. That's taking into account only "weekly challenges" however in the graphic there are also "daily" , "seasonal" and "hero" challenges too. Potentially totalling to 1,000 coins?...
That could be pretty cool but of course a really tough grind anyway, but at least the option would be there.
Lemme know what you think 🤔
My question is will it be just 540 coins per season. From weekly yes but there are daily and season challenges as well. I think there is a possibility these give coins as well. I doubt comp lifetime and hero ones will do but you never know. I just think that the season coins for f2p players may be higher than 540
Agreed. People are also forgetting that, after season 2, new heroes are only released every other season.
So technically, if 540 was the max amount of coins earned, you will have 1080 coins between each hero drop after season 2.
also I'd imagine when PvE eventually releases, you'd probably earn something from completing missions. Whether or not it'll be just xp or coins idk. We just have to wait and see.
And the screenshot says complete 4 weejly challenges but shows only three which add up to 60 which add up over the 9 Weeks to 540. So its actually more than the Number everybody talks about
@@yulemuller7167 but you expect this community ro have common sense? That's the funny part. They are really acting like they won't be getting any coins for anything except weekly challenges
Apparently, not that I can confirm, OW2 is going to make heroes less of a core component as they are moving away from a model where heroes hard-counter each other. This allows players to be able to play their favourite characters and stick with it. Another thing is that players generally aren't going to play the swap game or have a diverse hero pool in their roles, especially as more characters come into the game. One good note is that new characters can still be played in gamemodes like mystery heroes without having the need to unlock them.
I'm a casual overwatch player, I play for a few weeks and maybe disappear for 2 weeks, but the fact that I'm now forced into grinding for a really nice skin in the battle pass really annoys me. The fact that I probably won't be able to get those skins after the season ends makes me feel like I'm "missing out" if i dont grind my way to the max tier of the battle pass, when in OW1 I could just get the skins through lootboxes earned through leveling up,choosing a certain role in quick play, doing the three weekly arcade wins as well as playing certain arcade gamemodes.
If heroes weren't locked behind the battle pass then I would have no problems. Honestly I'm not willing to endlessly grind to unlock heroes when there are a ton of other games competing for my time. It really depends on how many hours of game play needed to get to level 55 in the battle pass.
Ok, but should developers work for free? How else are they going to get paid for the work they do if they don't charge the clients (players) for the service they provide? At least they are giving us the option to play free with most of heroes unlocked. It's a choice...
Personally I would have more of an issue with the grind if you couldn't unlock the hero instantly for just $10. Like yeah, from a player looking to not spend any money possible at all, it definitely sucks. But if you're willing to pay Blizzard money $10 really isn't that much for a new character and cosmetics, hell the average fighting game dlc character is $6.
@@scrollingthru45 No, that's where we were at with OW1, which literally had gambling in it. This is literally $10 every other month if you want the exclusive cosmetics or the new character instantly. This is a far cry from it being like Halo Infinite where everything is monetized to hell and back in the most obtrusive FOMO inducing way possible.
@@scrollingthru45 Yeah, and there were so much filler content that to even get a 50% chance of getting specific items you want would require you to grind insane amounts of hours. I remember spending 4 hours every day during all of christmas break grinding for a specific Tracer skin and having to resort to spending $15 on the lootboxes at the very end to give me enough boxes to get lucky and earn it, and I still missed out on a bunch of other skins I wanted.
The old system was way worse than just having to spend $10 and a set level of grinding to get everything you want from a season.
@@scrollingthru45
1) Except that's waiting multiple months for it come back and for me to restart the process of gambling at the slot machines once again to hopefully get lucky enough to get it that time.
2) That's going under the assumption that there aren't any other skins releasing within that wait that I want as well.
3) The more items added to the loot pool means the chances of me getting exactly what I want dramatically decreases, especially due to the horrible duplication system at the time.
Honestly, I was never really a fan of the lootboxes, but I was a completionist in OW1 only few skins I bought were for OWL and the mercy cancer awareness skin, and it is looking like if I want to be one in ow2 I will have to spend thousands of dollars, and that is not happening...and seeings as how they are nuking ow1 when this game comes out I really have no other option but to play ow2 or not at all...It sucks to be an overwatch fan....
Most people aren’t completionists though, you put that burden on yourself.
@@freakazoid00 So it is fair to also lock heroes now behind a battlepass in a competative game that allows hero swapping? What happens if you are on vacation or have something else come up, and you can't get that hero that season are you just out of luck? This model is getting close to all the other games I refuse to play because of the absurd MxTs
@@freakazoid00 Just because most people aren't completionist doesn't mean it's ok to charge the people that are an absurd amount of money.
@@ES_DCSAVIOR101 Except its only $10, not the hundreds to thousands of dollars needed to spend to have decent of chance of getting everything in Overwatch 1 with grinding absurd amounts of hours.
My bigger concern is having a character you've invested time and money in only to get nerfed later on when they're not the focus. Leaving you with a now bad character.
Brig def felt that way to me… I still think she was nerfed to a terrible spot, and was fine before.
I know I might be in the minority in that, but Brig to me felt unplayable after all her nerfs.
@@XFizzlepop-Berrytwist yeah and the fact you put time and money into that character is BS that they should never nerf a character imo. Only buff others
@@mazethemercenary
Well I do get balance changes, but the way they balanced was based around the top 1% of players, or Overwatch league anyway.
Not the average player.
For me it all depends on what those free challenges are like to unlock heroes after a season has ended. If it’s a bit grindy but simple then I think there’s a version of playing OW2 that works for most play styles, if it’s “place top 500” then forget it. OW1 was so cool because it did the opposite of what people expected by giving everyone the heroes for free. If the only way to get a previous season hero is to pay £10 or play 1000 hours then I’ll just go elsewhere, I don’t have that kind of time to spend on 1 game. Sure you can play without unlocking that character, but...
One thing people haven’t mention yet is that heroes being in the battle pass highly discourages smurfing. Imagine making an alt account late into Overwatch 2 game cycle and having to spend money to unlock the heroes, or grind the challenges out. Not worth it for alot of people.
this has been my point since the start! phone number + all heroes unlocked requirement will both hugely help the smurf situ. sure its now free, but these will certainly help to deter most smurfs
Ppl spent money on the game in order to smurf and u think unlocking a hero for 5 bucks will stop them?
@@Relevart9169 i have one physical copy of overwatch and its really easy to switch accounts. There's no need to buy another copy if you just sign into another account
I noticed on the screenshots that each Battle Pass level needs 10k XP. Weekly challenges give 5k XP each.
Assuming games give the same XP as before, that's 3-4 QP or 2-3 comp games for each level.
i heard from another channel that you can get roughly 5.5 BP levels from the weeklies and the Battlepass seems to be roughly 9 weeks long. so you do the math on where that gets you at the end of the Battlepass season.
Though i encourage you to search for the numbers yourself, because i can't even remember the whole thing anymore so take my numbers with a grain of salt.
Does that mean you can miss heros? Or then that you can go and buy heros you missed in previous battle passes
Based on just that screenshot, it looks like the weekly challenges are effectively on par with or exceeding what were previously week long challenges of their own. Basically, 11x the amount of grinding as an OW1 'challenge' event, every week. Also, if the 'win 20 games while queued as all roles' is an indication of the hidden challenges, you could be looking at needing 1000+ wins just to afford one Battle Pass as a free player.
Even then, you miss two thirds of the content.
Thanks for this video. OW gave me good entertainment for 6 years. However, this new system is not for me. I’ll play the first season but end up giving my time to another game. End of en era
"a lot of free to play games ask to unlock characters, you start with five of the twenty" Ok, but those kind of games play in a different way, overwatch lets you switch characters mid game, other games require you to make a choice for the character you use during the next match and you can't change your pick....and not having a character doesn't lock you out of the ranked game mode
The base roster is huge and flexible enough to handle any situation. If you disagree you probably a silver elo scrub
agree but that's not the point; the point is being locked out of competitive because you don't have one (or more) hero from the already huge and flexible roster.
in the end, as Stylosa pointed out, completing weekly challenges to earn coins translates in a yearly expense of 30$ to potentially unlock everything and play without limitations, that for me seems a fair price for a game I enjoy playing, and that's probably what they had in mind when they studied the battle pass
I'm not sure if you went over this or if anyone else is talking about but the battle pass has no currency. All the big games that have a battle pass where they give currency back to you enough so that you can buy or come close to buying next season's battle pass. I find it strange that they don't include in-game currency for the battlepass at all.
Thank you, very great video!
Someone worked it out to about 4 1/2 weeks doing every quest daily. T55 is insanity.
