19* hybrid with 4h shaft; 4 iron still 😱 Thinking of going with a utility iron. Mark, are the utility irons that much different from normal? Ie, Wilson FG Tour V4 utility vs C4 4i??
I am 71 and just put hybrids in my bag, 19 ,25 and 31 degree lofts. Only one fairway wood which is an adjustable that I set at 17 degrees. My highest iron is my 8 iron and this set up works well for me and takes pressure off my game and results to lower scoring.
Thanks Mark! I liked how you described ball position. Best explanation I've heard. I play a 4 iron, 19 degree hybrid and honesty I have been hooking the hybrid so much that my confidence has been shaken. I've been working on addressing this and I'm going to seriously consider your comments, so thanks again. Cheers from Canada, eh!
TS2 19 & 23... love them! Always been a hybrid player, my irons stop at 6iron. It was the same in my previous setup. Hybrids are so easy to hit & make the longer game certainly easier for me.
When in a tournament and I absolutely need to find a fairway on a shorter par 4 or 200+ par 3, I hit a 2-hybrid off of the tee... a little bleeder cut to eliminate one side of the fairway and prevent the “big miss.” It has done wonders for my game under pressure. It has replaced my 2 iron that used to play the same role of providing accuracy over unpredictable length. Once upon a time hybrids were taboo for golf purists. Not as much the case anymore. Dropping the ego helps to drop the handicap. Great video Mark. Spot on instruction as always.
Great video. I think these little lessons on how the equipment is designed to work can really help the guy trying To get better, I like that you never talk about swing mechanics or how your swing should look but focused on how the club needs to be delivered and then let the player figure out their swing part themselves
I replaced 4 and 5 iron with hybrids years ago. Thinking about replacing the 6 iron as well. Would enjoy more info on hitting hybrids from different lies and circumstances. Enjoying this series. Keep up the great work Mark!
Mr Crossfield, of the RUclips videos that I've watched on hybrid play, this one is by far on top, at least for this amateur. Been binge watching the course vlogs as well. Muppet Tours are some fun entertainment
I carry a 19 degree hybrid but also a 19 degree 4 iron. Generating to much height with the hybrid in windy conditions I change to the 4 iron to get a more drilled flight
I enjoy these short tips videos, even if the content is familiar. Golf is a game where there are always so many variables to consider it's always good to be reminded. I game a 20 degree hybrid and use it in every game. I wouldn't be without it!
Thanks for this video, I love my k15 hybrids but have never been exactly sure how to play them and as such am not consistent. Please do more of these instructional videos. Love it.
I listened to you pledge to hybrids Mark. I then tested them at a demo day and was sold on the ping g410. I've got two 19 & 22 degrees loft .I'll never look back at a 3 or 4 iron. Thanks Mark.
Long iron normally but started to use a 22 and 25 degree. Ben ross., brand new with head covers £30 each. No brainier!!! 25 degree is close to 5 iron but much easier to get out of the rough... lovely. Great vid guys xx
I game a 17 degree hybrid. It's a Ping G15 which I recently purchased after watching older videos of you with your nearly identical G20 hybrid. I like the offset. I play it just like a long iron. It is very easy to hit with that chunk of metal behind the face.
I have got 19 and 22 degree hybrids in the bag just getting use to them as the long irons had been becoming inconsistent so decided it may well be time to try a change 😊
Usually carry 2 hybrid clubs (19 & 23). And occasionally only 1 hybrid and bringing a sweet little Cobra 5 wood. Usually judgement comes knowing if the rough is tough or gotta play a longer course.
Great video. Love the channel. Every time I struggle with a club the next day you make a video that is about the club I had a problem with.. Love it . Thanks mark.
Adams 4 hybrid ,Mizuno 5 hybrid - I hit it down on the ball a bit - works mostly. I often choke down on club as well ! My hybrid is my second shot club. Thanks
Great video! I've learned some of these tricks playing with the hybrid but it's great to put these results into content and understand things better. Keep them coming!
Hello Mark, I subscribed and follow your channel all the time. Very informative. First things first, I'm a 65 yr. old golfer that has about given up on the driver because of hip and back problems, so I'm turning to my Callaway Super Hybrid 17degree as my go to club off the tee. I strike it well and think that I could manage myself around the course as long as I can get off the tee. So, If you have any videos and comments please let me know thanks and keep up the great instructional videos. Steven P
Great stuff. I really need to go into the used bin at my local shop to find a hybrid to play with!!! Sounds to me that the ball position I'll have is probably close to where my 5 Wood is played.
Thanks for your video and I will try your tips. However, I have pretty much given up on my 19 degree Ping hybrid, and now prefer my 4-iron because I am more accurate and consistent with it (I do give up about 5 yards). It helps that my 4-iron is a Cobra F9 (19.5 degrees) which is really forgiving and gives me a high ball flight (using Nippon 950 GH Stiff, 98 gr.).
Good stuff Mark - my 2 hybrids are fast becoming my favourite clubs in the bag - so easy to hit and versatile and have saved me between 2&4 shots a round by being able to hit long par 3s in regulation plus the longer par 4s - more of the same please!
I have a bouquet of head covers popping out of my bag. I'm gaming 6,4,2 and just replaced my 3 wood with a 16 degree 1 hybrid. I love em and yes I would like to see other videos on hybrid techniques. Hybrids dont shame them, game them.
I am new to hybrids. Dropped the 4 iron (the 3 was gone years ago.) and have 19 and 22 degree Pings. Not consistent enough with them but when they work, they really work. Setting up a driving net and will be working on hybrids and Irons. I got the Swing Caddy SC300 as the reporting tool so should be able to dial things in a bit. I had read simply hit the hybrids like irons but I liked your multifaceted approach better. Also liked your recent swing speed relative to distance and handicap tests. I'm 68 and my driver speed is in the low 90's so moving up to the standard mens tees has helped my loss of distance. I'm playing quite a bit and the index ranges from 5-7 so I'm able to score reasonably well despite the short knocks. I'll be in UK in May so hope to drop by Torquay and maybe play it. Clear it with Dan ... would ya.
I'm 48 now. I'm starting to use hybrids more. My 3 iron is out, replaced by a gap wedge. I've been using a Taylormade Rescue Dual from 2006. I just bought a M6 19 degree. Just figuring out what shaft works right now. When I do this will replace my TM Rescue 22 and my 17 degree TM Rocket ballz 4 wood.
Finding it hard to hit hybrids as I’ve only been playing a few months but everyone keep trying to tell me how easy they are to use ! Got a 18 and 20.5 degree ! Seem to top them a lot ! Thanks for the amazing videos 👍
I struggled to hit my hybrids this past season but had them in the bad for chipping around the green, 21°&24°. Recently just got a 5 & 7 woods. Things to work on during the winter.
I have 5 iron (23 degrees), 4 hybrid (21 degrees) and 5 wood (18 degrees). I replaced my full bag of clubs 6 weeks ago and I'm still bedding them in. Once I have a good data set captured by ShotScope I will assess whether I need to add a 5 hybrid or whether I can go down the shaft a little on the 4 to close the gap to the 5 iron a little.
Excellent Mark, looking forward to giving my 23 deg a go this weekend. Sorry if i digress but how many golf tops have you got, I don't think I have seen you wear the same one twice, you must have one laundry bill!!
Great video, Mark! I'm definitely a hybrid player and they're probably the clubs I use the most in my rounds of golf, both off the tee when the driver isn't behaving and off the fairways and rough. I I used to carry 2 of them in my bag (4 and 3 hybrid in Cobra King F7), but a couple months ago I got rid of my 3 wood cause I was rubbish with it and I got myself a 2 hybrid (Cobra King F9 speedback) which I bloody love and carries as much as the 3 wood or even longer. I would love you to make a part 2 of this video chatting about the different kinds of lies you can get into on the course and how you tackle them with a hybrid in your hand and the patterns that you find. I have noticed that I struggle when the flag is hybrid distance away and the ball is in a bit of an awkard lie, my vatiation of shots goes a little bananas both left, right, long and short. I'm talking about deep into thick rough or sat on top of it, sat down in the looser rough or tight lies where there is little grass if any, all sorts of different lies you can get in a bunker, and also on slopes when the ball is considerably above or under your feet or a combination of any of those. I love those kind of videos because they give me great ideas to go and try on my practice rounds and help me figure out success patterns. Thank you! I'd really appreciate it.
Hello Mark, I own matching 2, 3, 4, and 5 Adams hybrids but I only use two at any given time. On my own course I use the 3 and the 5 and on Links courses I use the 2 and the 4 (no trees to go over).
That's probably where I've been going wrong as I always thought hybrids are closer to iron length (with lower c of g) than wood length, so have been playing them as an iron. Will try your tip and see if I get better results!
Put a 23° hybrid in the bag beginning of the year, love the flexibility it offers, top end I then either game a 4 iron or 7 wood depending on weather and course conditions
I use 23.5* and 19* Cobra F7 hybrids. From there I go up to my 18* 5W. I will at times replace the 23.5* with my 5 iron depending which course I'm playing. I find that I get more loft from the hybrid if I know I'm going to need it.
Great vid! Cheers bruh! I bought a 3 and 4 hybrid instead of 3 and 4 iron. Still testing and gapping. But so far I'm loving the distance as my irons were getting all bunched up at the top end
I play, and love, my 2 hybrids. A 19 and 23. I think they are my favourite clubs. I have to be careful about setup to avoid offset helping me draw the ball too much.
I’d say my comment a few videos back was the inception of this video? Least my ego would say so...anyway, I’m loving this series Mark keep em Colin. I bagged a 23° for about two weeks but wasn’t too keen on having it draw as much as it was drawing and worse having yet another shot I needed to practice at the range (which I neglect in favor of spending time with my family). I’ll practice the 23° during the off-season in hopes of making it work but I’ve dropped it in favor of my set 4i (AP2) and 3i (TMB) with a recoil graphite shaft that actually has me swinging slower and generating tons of distance and height surprisingly (3i getting me 210 carry with an easy 6i like swing). Perhaps a video on blending options not just in more forgiving heads but shafts as well? ; )
RINK MY DINKS! Nice video Mark, I play two hybrids a 17 degree Titleist 909 and a 22 degree Cobra F8, find the 4 hybrid so easy to hit while still getting my 180-190 distance and the 17 degree perfect for off the tee of out of the rough trying to keep it low
I'm using both a 2 and 5 hybrids. I use the H2 for long par 5s and I use the H5 whenever I'm not hitting my long irons well. My H5 is like my confident club.
Recently bought two Titleist TS3 hybrids - a 19 and 23 - after always having been an iron man (not the ripped athlete type, sadly) So far, the results have been patchy at best, so will put your tips into play, Mark. 👍🏻
Nice Vid Mark, I have a 19 & 23 deg , They are great at landing high and soft from their designed yardages. What I struggle with is trying to keep them low ( punch shots, into the wind, etc) . Would love to see your set-up to use these in a "stinger" application.
Loving my 23 deg Titleist 816 hybrid still, i tee off with it now instead of my driver (only been playing for 3 years and don’t particularly like the driver still). It makes me buzz with confidence because i know i can hit it and i now average 215 off the tee and 8/10 times I’m on the fairway! Golf is a lot more enjoyable with a hybrid especially as a mid to high handicap player 🙂 Ps Loved the video Crossfield and hope i can flush my hybrid off the deck as well as you one day 😎👌🏼
I am a novice, playing a 4 hybrid with +1 additional loft, enjoying the consistency. I have just got a 6 27 degree Cleveland for shorter fairway to green shots, struggled first try out, will persevere. Thoughts?
I’ve been using hybrids for about the last 13yrs. My first hybrids were 2006 Nike CPR 3H and 4H. I absolutely love hybrids and they have been a game changer to me, particularly as I’m not a fast swinger of the golf club the extra distance and height they give me is a huge advantage. Currently I’m playing an Epic 3H and 4H and they’ll stay in the bag for a few more years yet as 4H carries around 160-165m and my 3H carries around 168-173m, which perfectly fits into my set distance. I also find hybrids easier to control and flight when I’m trying to play 3/4 swings verses a long iron and in summer I can sneak a fair bit extra roll out of the 3H in particular. Sorry for the long reply, I just really like hybrids.....great video as always😀👍
QUESTION: Any tips on playing shots on soft ground now that we are heading into winter. (avoiding the slightly fat shots that you get really punished for now the ground is soft)
Ive got both.....a TS3 19 deg lofted down to 18.25 and then I have a U500 3 iron. The reason I carry both is quite simply because my home course is manufactured links course.
Best recent rounds played using only 18, 22 and 25 Cleveland hybrids. Kept in play all day. 18h wants to draw, others fade. Bizarre, but at least draw helps with tee distance, while fades with stopping on greens.
Hey Mark, interested you get your take on a new bag set up I’m trying...I have an 18 degree driving iron...that I hit slot off the tee but struggle at times hitting from the ground high. And now just recently replaced my 4 iron with a 21 degree hybrid. Good idea? Or am I in line to having gapping issues? Thanks!
Play a 3,4, and 5 hybrid....took my 5 iron out, but had to put it back due to yardage gaps. Sadly, had to remove a gap wedge to keep to 14 clubs. Love my hybrids, but still up in the air about what to remove in order to put my gap back in. Maybe my 5 wood will have to go, but I like it a lot too......What to do??? What to do????
I game a Titleist 23 degree which I use for a 6 iron replacement and a Titleist 20.5 degree for long iron replacement for the gap in between fairway wood , I find the 23 degree more versatile from fairway, rough or open it for a medium par 3.
Long iron or hybrid player?
play a 5 iron and 19' hybrid. no fairway woods. 9.5 driver
9 wood, 7 wood 💪🏼
3hybrid @18 deg, 4i @23 deg. There’s a gap but does the job, driving iron, etc. Good on par 5 approaches. Doesn’t see too many par 3 tees anyway.
19* hybrid with 4h shaft; 4 iron still 😱 Thinking of going with a utility iron. Mark, are the utility irons that much different from normal? Ie, Wilson FG Tour V4 utility vs C4 4i??
22 degree hybrid, 3 and 5 woods, 5 iron on down to 56 wedge
I am 71 and just put hybrids in my bag, 19 ,25 and 31 degree lofts. Only one fairway wood which is an adjustable that I set at 17 degrees. My highest iron is my 8 iron and this set up works well for me and takes pressure off my game and results to lower scoring.
Nice instructions. I like the way that you encourage experimenting as opposed to being dogmatic about ball position.
Yes, definitely need to commit to the shot with a hybrid; usually fluff it when I don’t!!
I love my hybrids. I play the Cobra one length 19 and 25 degree hybrids. Iron length hybrids are just lovely!
Those One Length hybrids are so great. Laser straight and the rails are amazing for those sat-down lies.

19 and 23 degrees hybrids then down to a 15.5 3 wood. Love them, thinking of swapping my 5 iron out at some point as well.

I’m a 6 hcp player and have honestly never truly known how to play my 19 degree hybrid ... 🤦♂️ Cheers Bruh for the help 👍🏻
Crimes I was just thinking you hadn’t done this one yet and here it is, brilliant
Long iron normally but started to use a 22 and 25 degree. Ben ross., brand new with head covers £30 each. No brainier!!! 25 degree is close to 5 iron but much easier to get out of the rough... lovely. Great vid guys xx
I have 5+9 fairways and a 26 degree 5 hybrid. Working out pretty well ! Enjoying your lessons !
Love my hybrids, too. Would like to see more of these kind of videos
I have a 19, 22 and 25 hybrid. Then starting irons at 6. 23.9 HCP. Love my hybrids for their versatility and helping me out of multiple lies. 👍
21 24 and 28. The 28 is my 5 iron replacement and has been such a weapon for me since adding it in.
I game a 17 degree hybrid. It's a Ping G15 which I recently purchased after watching older videos of you with your nearly identical G20 hybrid. I like the offset. I play it just like a long iron. It is very easy to hit with that chunk of metal behind the face.
I love my hybrids the help me loads. From all over the course. Yes these ideas help, more please.
As a long iron player, I have a 19* hybrid. I would like to tinker with the ideas of more hybrids.
Yes, please!
I have got 19 and 22 degree hybrids in the bag just getting use to them as the long irons had been becoming inconsistent so decided it may well be time to try a change 😊

I play a 17, 20, 23 and recently a 27 too - they're just so easy to hit on the course and they rarely get me in trouble
Thanks Mark will try those tips next week
Nice one Mark I'm using the Titleist TS2 in 23 and 19 degrees and I love them.
Great video. Love the channel. Every time I struggle with a club the next day you make a video that is about the club I had a problem with.. Love it . Thanks mark.
Thanks Mark. Some good tips.
Great lighting for this video. Good advice to boot 👍🏼
Adams 4 hybrid ,Mizuno 5 hybrid - I hit it down on the ball a bit - works mostly. I often choke down on club as well !

Thanks

Great stuff. I really need to go into the used bin at my local shop to find a hybrid to play with!!! Sounds to me that the ball position I'll have is probably close to where my 5 Wood is played.
Love hybrids..I have 3 Ping rinkys 17, 22, and 26. I even use them sometimes for chip/putts off the green.
Great explanation Mark ! Thanks

Great video. I play 6,5,4 and 3 hybrids
I use 3 older cobra bafflers (12 years old) 20, 23, and 26 lofts. My longest iron is a 30.5 degree 7 iron. Love those clubs.
I am new to hybrids. Dropped the 4 iron (the 3 was gone years ago.) and have 19 and 22 degree Pings. Not consistent enough with them but when they work, they really work. I use the Titleist 818H1 in 18deg (19deg model) and 22deg (21deg model)! Love them now I’m properly used to them after years of the G10 hybrids!
Excellent advice Mark loving that
Interesting gonna be trying this out , not a driver not a 7 iron in between sounds simple , looks simple we’ll see . Thanks
Just purchased a 21 deg as I've got a new set of irons & decided not to have a 3 or 4 iron for the 1st time. Moving my game into new territory
I game Cleveland Hybore hybrids, 2,3,4,5 and sometimes a 6, love em👍🏻✌🏻
Finding it hard to hit hybrids as I’ve only been playing a few months but everyone keep trying to tell me how easy they are to use ! Got a 18 and 20.5 degree ! Seem to top them a lot ! Thanks for the amazing videos 👍
Moved to Hybrids a few years ago currently playing Titleist TS2 19 & 23, but tempted to try the new U500/510 or Taylormade P790
I struggled to hit my hybrids this past season but had them in the bad for chipping around the green, 21°&24°. Recently just got a 5 & 7 woods. Things to work on during the winter.
good advice for any club really
I have 5 iron (23 degrees), 4 hybrid (21 degrees) and 5 wood (18 degrees). I replaced my full bag of clubs 6 weeks ago and I'm still bedding them in. More hybrid videos would be great!👍🏼👍🏼
Great, so well explained. Thanks Mark. 👍
Met you at Paultons last week, I hat the Wilson C200 irons and the Callaway XR driver and 22 degree XR hybrid. It's my go to 180 fairway finder.
Excellent Mark, looking forward to giving my 23 deg a go this weekend. Sorry if i digress but how many golf tops have you got, I don't think I have seen you wear the same one twice, you must have one laundry bill!!

TSi2 3 and 5 hybrid....love them..ventus blue shafts
Hoping my new TS2 19* shows up tomorrow. Got the 23* 818H1 for my 4 iron.
Just getting into hybrids this year.... goodbye 3/4 irons. Thanks for the technique.
I go 22 and 26 degree. Even though my 6 iron loft is 27 the 26 degree gaps in well.
22 degree Tayjormade. It's my go to club and I love to hit it.

Perhaps a video on blending options not just in more forgiving heads but shafts as well? ; )
Nailed it Mr C
I used to have a 4 iron and a 3 wood but was struggling so took them both out and replaced with hybrids, 19 and 22 which I find easier to play
Great video Mark.
I play the GAPR hi. I love the way it hits hate the way it looks after just 6 months of play.
Great video more hybrid videos please!
Nice Vid Mark, I have a 19 & 23 deg , They are great at landing high and soft from their designed yardages. What I struggle with is trying to keep them low ( punch shots, into the wind, etc) . Would love to see your set-up to use these in a "stinger" application.
Excellent information!! Thanks
Mark, what should the proper lengths be for the hybrids? I prefer a bit shorter length for mine. I use 22* and a 24* hybrids.
Golf is a lot more enjoyable with a hybrid especially as a mid to high handicap player 🙂
Ps
Loved the video Crossfield and hope i can flush my hybrid off the deck as well as you one day 😎👌🏼
I currently only have a one, a 19 degree. Yet I think the next time I get fit, I will be looking to add one, maybe two more to my set.
I am a novice, playing a 4 hybrid with +1 additional loft, enjoying the consistency. I have just got a 6 27 degree Cleveland for shorter fairway to green shots, struggled first try out, will persevere. Thoughts?
Love my 25 degree H2 716 x stiff, carries 180 normally so replaces the 4 & 5 irons
I have 4 hybrids -
3H@ 21°
4H@ 24°
5H@ 27° &
6H@ 30°
All Diablo Edge & 10yo, served me well but will be replaced in the new year
Great content mark, keep it up!!
I play 19 degrees 819H Titleist. Nice video! Please do 3 wood video!
