Great video because I LOVE my 2 hybrids (19 & 22 degree). They replace my 3 and 4 iron respectively, and I love the versatility they provide on the course. Every single time I pull those out, they just scream confidence and make the game more enjoyable for me. Keep up the great videos!!
I enjoy your presentations, they are clear, precise and easy to understand. My hybrid and 3 wd off the ground are usually on the low side. From your demonstration, I interpret that I should hit more downward into the ball; that I am probably coming into the ball too level.
Great tip Chris! I've been using my 6 and 7 hybrids for chip and run shots anywhere up to 50 metres for my last 3 rounds. It has revolutionised my short game and I've taken so many strokes off my score! I used to try variations of PW, 56, 52 trying to get that lovely loft and stop that the pros do - but invariably I would chunk it off the sole and shoot right through, or I'd catch it thin and fall short so many times. I accepted that I just don't have the skills to do it. So I tried the hybrid chip and run approach instead. Brilliant! So easy, more controlled and more confidence around the green.
I've heard many people talk about standing a little closer to the ball for short chips but until watching this video nobody has ever explained why. Extremely useful, thanks.
I have used all of these and loved the hybrids so much, I switched to all hybrids, watching my score drop. My 2 favorites have been using the hybrid off the tee, and also putting from the edge of the rough by the fringe and also when on the fringe, like this about 50 feet away.
Exactly what I was looking for in terms of hybrid instruction, especially about teeing up the ball and stroke consistency. Just bought a used one to replace my 3i. Can't wait to use it.
Hybrids are great clubs, replaced my 3 and 4 with Calloway hybrids. Hit more straight shots with them than my long irons. Like the idea of a long chip shot near the green. Great work as always Chris.
Chris, Thank you very much for taking the time to enlighten me about the hybrid clubs. I play with a set and find them very forgiving and I place the ball with more accuracy when in the grass, but I did not realize the various ways to use them. Very Good Video.
A hybrid was the first club in my bag that I actually felt good about using early on when I started playing. I still love my 4H n still hit it well and use it for typical longer distance shots and on occasion to hit low punch shots when I’m in trouble n need a low long distance shot. Like a wayward drive that needs to be put on the green or at least shot back into better position. I will never change my Callaway Xhot 4H🙌
I affirm the flexibility of the hybrid and actually the confidence it gives you. Recently I walked the course for many rounds just with six clubs - no putter even- using the hybrid as the putter also and my score was as good as when I had the full set- the hybrid was the most used club
Man, thanks for mentioning the tee height! I've watched many vids on here about hybrids, and they don't even mention the height! A quarter inch is perfect height! I would add that steel shafts are underrated here, and a shorter club is better than too long. Off a tee I can smash a 4 hybrid, but I can't hit a driver for anything.... beautiful swing at 6:18!
Thanks Chris for another great video on something so misunderstood, but not addressed by other teaching videos. Has helped me so much ,as used to often top my hybrid .
Well done Chris. I actually use a Callaway Rogue X # 8 (32 degrees) Hybrid for chipping and getting out of the bunkers. Excellent video Chris. I actually enjoy a complete set of hybrids in the bag. A mix between Callaway Rogue X and Ping G 400. I wouldn't say your video is too long. I would call it complete with solid explanations and instruction. A job very well done. Best wishes, Spider Dubiel
Chris Great set of videos - good production and very professionally executed Thanks - we will follow you and try many of your tips out as my wife works through the first year as a beginner and i try and reveal my true potential after 30 years or so . Keith Smith
I choose to use my hybrid for punch shots out of the trees, instead of a 4 or 5 iron, the hybrid takes less energy in the swing and will go straighter - great for punching out 150 up the green between several trees, etc.
Great tip on teeing the ball down when using the hybrid for your first shot. Sometimes don’t hit it cleanly/pop that ball into the air off the Tee, generally it’s from teeing the ball up too high & subsequently having to modify my swing
Thank you kindly Professor Chris Ryan. That was so informative. I can't begin to tell you how many times, I've "Chili Dipped" my chips. I can't wait to try your lessons.
Great advice again M8. Fell well out of love with hybrids after nearly decapitating a player on a green almost at 90 degrees to my right, (im a RH player) big out of the toe strike. I lost total trust and confidence in my ability to use them. Playing on my own and having the occasional crack with them, I found new faith after discovering your first point, real low tee height. I also pick a point about the length of the club head in front of the ball, place my left toe in line with that point and hey presto, im falling in love with them all over again. Big distance. Bad shots are becoming much rarer. :)
Nice video Chris. Good advice and good explanations for your hobbiest golfer like me. The people telling you you shanked it or hit it in the water.........(the same ones who blame the lie of the grass or the speed of the greens for their woeful golf)........can go do one! That’s my two penneth worth anyway. Looking forward to some more of your videos buddy, keep them up.
Thanks for the video, Chris. My irons are Ping Karsten cavity backs which hit great. Reasonably long, high and very forgiving. The two hybrids which came with the set are a 3h and a 4h. After 4 years of trying to hit the hybrids, I have found them to be the most frustrating clubs in my bag. I’ve tried hitting like irons, hitting like fairway woods, steep, shallow, easy, hard...all i can hit with them are worm burners. Consequently, i don’t even put them in my bag anymore. I replaced them with a 7 metal wood, which i hit very well. Considering how well i hit ALL my clubs with the exception of the two hybrids, I know I am doing something desperately wrong. What are the most common mistakes a duffer like me makes with hybrids? Thank you from Texas!
Very good advice Sir👌👌 ..... I enjoy using hybrid club for 1st (par 3) , 2nd and 3rd shots, and for long chip near the putting green. I prefer less club to use for more consistent swing.
Absolutely love my Taylormade Stage 2 19 degree tour hybrid, I also have an older Taylormade 22 degree hybrid, I want to find a Stage 25 degree for use in winter, I always tee it up low and I use both the hybrid and 3 woods around the green, I call them my Texas wedges, no insult intended, that's what we call them in Australia ;) !
I actually putt off the green with my 3 wood. I am a very confident chip/pitcher but if the greens are super fast or hard, i will opt for ye ol 3w putt. I have thought about using my hybrid but its a 16 degree 2HY and the loft scares me, i am afraid of getting that ball up with no spin and running off the green. my 3 wood is 13 degrees and rolls more like a putter off the green. Great video. Thank you Chris.
Just subscribed to your channel. Great video. I’m most comfortable with a hybrid, so it’s good to know that I can use it for different shots. Using it close to the green, instead of chipping a shot was a helpful tip, especially if you’re in the rough and not that great with a wedge. Thanks!
Good imagination for the last drill, I have never had a hybrid but was thinking about buying one as I'm feeling a bit left behind as everyone has them now. Another good video Chris
I have replaced my 6 iron with a 6 hybrid and then I have replaced my 3 wood with a low lofted 5 hybrid and then I have a middle lofted 5 hybrid as well for more safety shots in tough lie.
I like Hybrids due to the ability to play poor lies, I think for most causal playa's they don't need Irons >6 Iron, 2 Hybrids are a much easier club combo. For many, I think they can replace a 3 wood. With some practice, you can work them low or high, alittle hard to work a fade though. I use my 5 Hybrid around the greens to bump it on close.
Hi Chris, I watched your video before going out on the course. I still failed to make decent contact with the ball. Furthermore I never use driver or 3 wood on the course. Help would be great
I have had to throw my hybrids in cupboard, I don't have to much issues hitting longer irons but when I try hybrids my shot tends to go way ti high and right.. I'm trying to pay both the iron and hybrid the same but no luck.. I have a 3 and 5 hybrid
Almost started crying laughing from around 6:05 to around 6:25 where hes super intent on getting that divot, so sure its going to happen on the first shot, then in the very next breath, acting almost as if it was never possible to begin with and seemingly unsurprised says, "OK, now i wont take a divot because of the way the golf club is designed, its not going to allow me to take a divot." Trust me, Ive seen people play who could get her in the dirt lol.
never used my hybrid from the edge of the green before i allways take a straight edge club like a 5 or 6 to get it up to the hole for a reasonable putt
😂🤣 "it's not gonna allow me to take a divot". Maybe you should shoot a round with me Chris. I'll show you my hybrid shots.......they have no problem letting me take divots. Shit I suck so bad my divots have been compared to squirrel graves. Love the content as always.
I used a 3 hybrid off the tee all summer.. does it go as far? No.. but it goes about 180 to 185 and I’m in the fairway almost every time. Even a bad shot is in a good spot
Played 9 holes today after months of lay off. First hole dog legged right Par 4. Second shot 5 yards shy off Green. Pin another 5 yards away. Chipped with a Sand Wedge and landed just before the green. Made a double boogie. Went back to same place and used the rescue wood and it was about a yard from the hole. Made the putt. 😂
What degree of hybrid were you using in this video Chris??? A 19 degree # 3 Hybrid or something different? What degree of hybrid would be best if you were say 40 yards or so from the green give or take a bit either way???
Interesting. I sometimes hit my 3Hy 215-225, but struggle to consistently hit 220 with my D. So... if there’s a risk of shanking my D shots into the woods or water, and I’m (usually) hitting longer or just-as-long with my 3W and 3Hy anyway, why even take the D out of the bag? Until my coach can help me get my Driver swing right, I’ll be (and have been) modifying my approach to all par4s and 5s. I’ll bust out the 3W and 3Hy more than my D, because in my effort to reach the Par 4s in 2, I just need to hit 200+ - twice... and I’m there. Similar approach to the Par 5s.
To be honest I’ve never liked mine and so much of the time the grass, lie or uneven ground make getting a decent shot with it too difficult. It just doesn’t feel right 🤷🏻♂️
I've been using my hybrid in similar chipping situations and I have been quite successful. Great video.
What a fantastic tutorial. A+ Content, A++ Delivery.
Great video because I LOVE my 2 hybrids (19 & 22 degree). They replace my 3 and 4 iron respectively, and I love the versatility they provide on the course. Every single time I pull those out, they just scream confidence and make the game more enjoyable for me. Keep up the great videos!!
This was a wonderful explanation of how to use a hybrid! Thank you so much......
I enjoy your presentations, they are clear, precise and easy to understand. My hybrid and 3 wd off the ground are usually on the low side. From your demonstration, I interpret that I should hit more downward into the ball; that I am probably coming into the ball too level.

Great golfer. Natural teacher.
I've never thought of using my hybrid as a chipper, thanks for the advice
I've heard many people talk about standing a little closer to the ball for short chips but until watching this video nobody has ever explained why. Extremely useful, thanks.
Thanks John 👍
I like this idea and will try putting on a difficult elevated green at our course. Thank you Chris

Dude. Absolutely amazing breakdown and insights
Thanks for this advise Chris , ive just bought a new benross hybrid , not used it yet , but i will soon.

Thanks and great to hear 👍
Nice one Chris - good practical advice, particularly the detail about the tee height! - Thanks.
Thanks Richard 👍👍

Yuck!
@@levitateme Works great for me.
Most helpful. Thank you
Great video Chris, play on a links course and using a hybrid around the green is a great tool to have

What great tips. Will have to go and give them a go. Thanks boys.

Great video. What do you think of hitting a hybrid with a long rough shot? Assume the grass would impact the shot.
Great tip on teeing the ball down when using the hybrid for your first shot. Sometimes don’t hit it cleanly/pop that ball into the air off the Tee, generally it’s from teeing the ball up too high & subsequently having to modify my swing

I have just got a Taylormade Burner rescue club and I am keen to try it out on Thursday
Great tip Chris enjoyed I love mine existing 10 love them still working on them
Just swapped out my 4 iron for a 4 hybrid. Can't wait to get out on the course tomorrow!
How'd it work out for you?
@@jaymichicoff1715 huge improvement. The miss hits still travel a good ways and the ball flight is predictable. Definitely recommend.

Why use a 3 wood instead of a putter?
I just swapped out my 3-7 irons for Ping G425 hybrids for their versatility and they are easier to hit cleanly than their respective irons are.

Hello. Thank you for this vdo. May I ask which hybrid you use here please? U5 or U4?
Good imagination for the last drill, I have never had a hybrid but was thinking about buying one as I'm feeling a bit left behind as everyone has them now. Another good video Chris
Try one, you will probably love it. Favorite club in my bag 😁
Hi nic, definitely worth trying and getting the right one is key, but can be very useful 👍
You can use a 5 wood the same way too
Great vd Chris, I'm definitely going to trainer and use, very useful in Portugal in the summer.
great video as always!
thanks Chris! great vid, gonna try some of these things out at the range tomorrow, i'm committed to getting these hybrids working!
Great video. Great tips.
Hybrids, I used to play them well. But not as good now, awful from the tee. Hope this helps me improve my hybrid play. Thanks Chris
Thanks Alan hope it helps 👍
I thought this was an excellent video. Thanks for the tips kind Sir.
Good info on chipping. What club are you calling a hybrid? Almost looks like a Taylor Made 3 wood?

My hybride is my fav club
Hi Chris, I watched your video before going out on the course. I still failed to make decent contact with the ball. Furthermore I never use driver or 3 wood on the course. Help would be great
I have a 5 hybrid which i usr for chipping and bump and run shots with good results.

I prefer a 7 iron when running a ball 10-15ft from the green. I can get spin with a 7 and prevent it from rolling too far.

hybrid for chipping, never thought about this :)
Nice golf videos
My 4 and 5 hybrid are the most irreplaceable clubs in my bag. Most par 5s are 2 hybrids and a wedge.
love my hybrids....19/23/27 degree (3,4,5)
Gotta be honest really think you should add a shot tracer to your videos...
What hybrid are you using in this video and do you think that it is the best all-round one if I was to buy just one for my bag?
This is the M1 and it’s awesome, really versatile, but I’d also recommend looking at the TaylorMade GAPR clubs 👍
Great club for all bandits
But how do you get perfect shady golf days like that mate
Clicked the first like!
I've always ran 2 hybrids, a 17 and a 23 degree. I wouldn't trade my 23 degree for the world, you basically have a 220 yard wedge 😂
Ha, I like that, a wedge that you can hit from 220! 😂
I’ll bust out the 3W and 3Hy more than my D, because in my effort to reach the Par 4s in 2, I just need to hit 200+ - twice... and I’m there. Similar approach to the Par 5s.
To be honest I’ve never liked mine and so much of the time the grass, lie or uneven ground make getting a decent shot with it too difficult. It just doesn’t feel right 🤷🏻♂️
Which hybrid is best of the tee, 4, 3, or 2?
Really just depends on your bag set up and current lofts, a fitting should sort this out 👍👍
Haha who else can relate to "you might take 4 when we are looking to take 2"
“I’m gonna try to take a divot after contact” “ok, I didn’t take a divot because of the design of the club!” Lol… that was funny but still great video
my golly geeeeee get on with it man
Thought I was the only one,,,
Is that 3,4,5 rescue ?
For putting I mean
