I wish you could also show the camera settings especially white balance and exposure in details, that what most of youtube videos lack when talking about film color grading
oooo so sorry I missed that! Generally on my FX30 I sit my exposure around +0.7 to +1.0 (making sure not to overexpose my highlights) for white balance generally its set to 5200k unless the lighting is super tungsten then I will manually dial it in by eye.
@@Sky.H265 if u didn’t already know, the metering is probably the least reliable thing to look. It just a general scope but yes it can help with highlights. Its more reliable to look at your waveform (slightly to the right) or using zebras
yeah honestly works well for me! I do agree its not always the most technically accurate but that plus some eyeballing seems to get me there quickly! Its all about using the tools in a way that works best for you really!

I have a question regarding choosing what camera type when about to import the files. Sorry I'm new to colour grading and it might be silly, but how do I know what camera file to choose from when using the DJI Osmo Pocket 3 DLog-M
Hey! glad you enjoyed the video. Sorry it took me a second to reply had to do some testing! If your using DLog-m and not DLog it would be best to use the including Rec709 version of cineprint 35 and then tweak your contrast as part of the grade. Its a bit of a weird format to work with so hopefully you can get there with a bit of fiddling! Keep at it took me a while to get my head around the whole colour grading space ahah
@Sky.H265 Thanknyou, yes, I will try the rec709 and then fiddle to see what works best. I got the osmo pocket 3 as a gift and now with research find out the log format is more weird than others like the Sony, makes me want to get a new camera to make it work more easily. I think I've found the key to making stories pop on RUclips, and that's the colour! It really helps get the viewer into the moment and feel of the story. When I take my camper out travelling, I can't wait to use colourgrading to show my experiences more film like. Thanks again for your help! Very much appreciated.
hanks to you, I bought it and it works well.. However, I am still a beginner, so I will slowly learn how to change and influence it by modifying the basics such as exposure, white balance, etc. one by one. You are awesome and share a lot of knowledge. Thank you. (Towards 10,000 subscribers^^)
Thank you for the good explanation. I am a beginner using a Panasonic camera. When I purchase CinePrint35 and load Powergrade in DaVinci Resolve, I see complex nodes, but I have a question. I modified all nodes assuming it is a Panasonic v-log video. How do I get the results shown on the website? Or is it possible for a beginner like me to get decent results by just adjusting a few general things, such as exposure? First, I will subscribe with a grateful heart and visit often to learn.
nice video, sky! i have a question... i am user of cineprint16, the new version can work whit hlg3 whit "other cameras folder"? i have a 8 bits camera, so slog3 its so much hard for my camera
Thanks! Just had a quick squiz you should just be able to use the same colour space transform with the hlg footage you would in Cineprint16 in this new version :)
100% does matter yeah, as you won’t be getting as much information you most likely will end up with some artifices or banding in the imagine. You would also need to use the other cameras version and change the CST to the correct settings.
The cineprint 35 actually includes a cst power grade. You simply select that one and then change your input gamma to slog2 and input color space as s-gamut. I’m using slog 2 as well and was instructed by Tom bolles himself to use it this way via email.
Yeah but would need to be a iPhone 15 pro or pro max as you need to be able to shoot in a log format. Otherwise when you Apply the colour grade it sort of ruins the image
I do like to dial in my settings manually, but it isn’t necessary with iPhones most of the time as they do a pretty good job of exposing correctly. In cineprint35 there are specific power grades for iPhone so just make sure to use those too ☺️
Yup it works in free version only thing that you’d need to turn off is the grain node cause it throws a big watermark in it. Other than that you’re good.
Actually editing this on a M2 Pro MacBook ☺️ I have done some editing on my pc too (which I have a full video on the build) but just prefer Mac as I can shoot H265 files with no issue!
