@MrTruth7788 - totally agree, Eric's a stud actor......Star 80, Pope, Runaway Train, Final Analysis, The Specialist, Nature of the Beast etc.
Never got it, never understood why his kid sis 'Julia Roberts' got so much 'juice' as an actress, meanwhile her entire career was spun around her 1 hit wonder, 'Pretty Woman'.
Common knowledge that industry insiders have always given Eric mad respect. Howard Stern teasing told Eric he was prettier and more talented than most of the females
      that came on his show.
Mickey Rourke during his acceptance speech for the 'Wrestler' gave Eric a special shout-out, telling the audience that Hollywood needs to get it's act together and put Eric back in the game again. Guess Hollywierd listened -since then, he's been in some kick-ass summer blockbusters......Dark Knight, Expendables etc.

@@miles44-c1h What makes it so incredible is how natural it all looks and sounds. They just WERE those guys. If you grew up in the NY area back then and were Italian, you knew guys exactly like that. We all knew a Charlie, a Paulie, even an Eddie Grant. It's all so very genuine. But, the restaurant...last time I was by there it was a Chase Bank. Those neighborhoods are all dead. All the real NY character was developed right the hell out of them. It's all bland millionaires and corporate chains, now. That NY doesn't exist much anymore. It's sad.

@@e.l.norton love it, E.L. -- so very well put. I can only imagine. The film's authenticity is what drew-in so deeply a 17 yr old kid fr Flagstaff, AZ -- that stick ball scene...I was just fascinated this world actually existed - I wanted to be in it. You're lucky to have lived in that incredible city before it became pukishly corporatized & gentrified. I'd of gotten my ass handed to me in the old NYC of the 70s & 80s.... lol.
Great conversation with folks who know & love this film as thoroughly as I do!

@@miles44-c1h Stickball! 😂 Well, if you're ever in the city, that playground is still there and looks almost the same. It's at the corner of Houston and 6th Ave.There's a great pizza joint, Arturo's, about a 5-minute walk away on Houston. Treat yourself if you're ever there. All those filming locations are in close proximity from Worth Street up to the Village. It'd make for a cool afternoon. You could also hit the Ghostbusters firehouse at the same time. It's just a short walk from Eddie Grant's "Trucking Company".

As a kid I endlessly imitated Paulie. I had him down. My family was out to dinner at Bennigan's one night and I started doing Paulie over my mozzarella sticks.. My parents are cracking up. I do the, "That twat robbed you?!" line, and my parents choked laughing. I had NO idea what that word meant. I was half-heartedly reprimanded though tears of laughter. My parents knew I didn't know what the word meant, so I wasn't in trouble. I then probed for why it was a bad word and my father just shook his head laughing, "Just don't say it, alright. Not til you're married." 😄

Runaway Train was the first DVD i ever purchased. Bought it in late 1997. What gets me is that almost nobody I meet has seen that film. Its almost as if the establishment wants certain movies to be kept under lock and key. I heard in a documentary that they didn't have a big enough budget to show the train smashing into the chemical plant, so the ending is just Mannie on top of the locomotive.

I grew up in NYC and I was 25 when this film came out and I knew guys like Charlie and Paulie. There have been many films about NYC and this is one of the most accurate I’ve ever seen about a time that was in NYC. This film screams for a sequel. I’d love to see where Charlie and Paulie 40 years later. They’re in Florida they have a restaurant but it’s in financial trouble. Paulie has the great idea to get financial help from mobsters which he previously mentioned to Charlie who tells him not to even consider it but Paulie being Paulie does it anyway. Charlie finally is able to establish a relationship with his son who’s played by Tom Hardy. Paulie also now has a son played by Cillian Murphy and by his actions drags Charlie and their two sons into the mayhem. I’m ready to write the screenplay as no one is doing one now!
