To those judging Rachel for keeping stuff: a closet purge doesn’t need to be half your wardrobe! It can just be a refreshing change, and slowly throughout your life you’ll whittle it down to only items that make you feel the most confident and authentic. Or, to quote miss Marie Kondo- spark joy 🤩

Curating your internet experience is a v basic skill that most ppl have used since the popularization of the internet. It's pretty entitled to be like "I'm here and watching this for free for entertainment but I don't like it, so instead of just watching something I do like, I'm going to complain about how this person's harmless life choices don't cater to my specific wants."

My husband’s company transferred him every five years and the rest of us moved along with him. We have discovered that you should keep anything that you have a single doubt about. It is much easier donating once you arrive at your new place. When you say to yourself “why did I pack this”. It’s time to donate. I hope that your move is wonderful.

Having gone through that process recently, I totally sympathize with you. I’m glad to be all settled in to the new place and will avoid moving again at all costs. I love the bangs, they look really cute on you!
I'm 21 and can afford some fancy things sometimes so I have already gotten to this point except 90% of my wardrobe is basic because it takes a while and a lot of money to change a wardrobe but the idea is there at least. Helps I discovered historybounding so I actually like clothing now.
Omg both sets of parentals keep talking about our house as a “starter house’” and I am like ppl I’m 30 freaking 6, I am going to be living in this house till I die lol. Never moving again 6 times in 15 years was enough.

Dropped about 35lbs (another 35 to go) and it’s an excuse to clear out all the boring items I don’t wear and, so long as it’s adjustable (or easy to adjust via sewing) I’m buying way, way more fun pieces.

I get worse at it with every purge, because it hurts so badly that I am more and more careful with what I buy after that. So that next time I'm choosing between perfectly curated items that are perfect for me...🤡

I have no idea if you'll see this, but today I made myself a renaissance overdress to wear to the ren fair next weekend and I SELF DRAFTED my own pattern using tangential knowledge I picked up from watching your videos and my foggy memories of my mom teaching me how to sew when I was like 10. It felt so so good to spend my day making something from scratch, and while I get far too frustrated by sewing it to do it regularly, it's really freaking nice to know that I can have an idea and make it exist!! I know everyone has the "what if I ever need to visit the Queen???" dress in their wardrobe, and I would like to point out that formal events exist. If you're just going to need to drop another obscene amount on a dress for a wedding or similar event.... just keep your small selection of fancy stuff.

I'm honestly not sure which of my dresses would work for that. Perhaps I am overthinking it as it really depends (in my head) on whether its just a quick meet & greet style thing where she shakes hands with people in which case I have seen her shake the hands of people in casual jeans & tshirts. Or if its more formal affair where quite some time would be spent there. In which case it massively depends on the time of day. Wouldn't wear the long black velvet evening dress for an afternoon event, but would wear one of my tea length dresses if I could decide which print to go with. Problem is she has set colours she tends to wear & its bad form to turn up in the same colour as she's wearing. And since she wears a lot of yellow outfits and green outfits, that rules out a lot of mine... lol

hehe--I kept saying "Rachel--c'mon you're supposed to be purging...LOL" I get it though---I've recently don't some closet purging myself and then---I went out and bought a new wardrobe because I needed to. I had been working from home for about 14 months due to Covid lockdown and then we were told we were going back to the office in July and I Felt it was a good time to purge my wardrobe and buy me a new one..

I love the green dress from the end, I also feel you should know it's entirely ok to get dressed up for no reason. Point that dress looks amazing on you and you should wear it whenever you frickin want to. It hugs you just right, does wonders for your features and hair, and works so well with your skin tone.

My mom passed away a couple of years ago, but she and I loved watching Bernadette Banner and Cathy Hay. I have no doubt she would have loved your videos, as well as volunteer as tribute for the clothing donation. Moving hack for clothes for someone that's moved WAY too many times: just tape a bunch of hanging clothes together by the hangers, and throw a trash bag over the bundle to protect them from dust and the like. That way you can transport them and just hang them up again, instead of having to pack everything in boxes and rehang it all.
I'm really glad I'm not the only person that hits the deck when I see my neighbors outside.

For the most part, mine tend to be more maliciously "playful" (think ferrets with toys, but only interested in dredging up the worst day/mood-ruining thoughts, memories and ideas from bob knows where and then ceaselessly tumbling them around my brain all day). Often times the meds do a half-way reasonable job of tamping that playtime down. But sometimes, especially when I take their toys away or ignore them, they get mad and really start tearing up the place. :-/ That's when I need to just distract them with Shiny Happy Brain Toys that also tend to put them to sleep from massive happy/cozy vibe overload.

I’m so glad you kept the one you said “I know I hear you sorry” it’s incredible and great for future outfits you might make!
I used to purchase items because they were "unique" or because "I don't have anything like this in my closet" but I have actually learned that in most cases if I don't have anything else like it, it's because it's not my aesthetic and I won't wear it. Learning to love a garment for what it is but also know that it doesn't fit with the rest of my wardrobe was a hard lesson to learn but it has freed up so much space and saved me money.
Rachel, I LIVE to watch people sort through their 100% cute closets and purge things. The chaos is a bonus. I hope your moving process goes as smoothly as possible and that your new house is lovely!

There's a proven corollary of Murphy's Law which I call "Crafter's Dilemma"... Any time you go ahead and get rid of something you've been hanging onto for a decade, within a week it will inevitably prove to be EXACTLY the item you need for a new project... 🙈😹

1. New Edwardian style skirt you just bought + that first lace blouse that you couldn’t bring yourself to donate = fabulous new outfit? I see Gibson Girl potential, so no need to fret.
2. In the new house closet(s), I think you may want to ditch all the mismatched thick plastic hangers. In their place, those extra thin velvet hangers will be your best friends. Sure, you’ll need standard skirt hangers with clips for the skirts, but for all the rest of your wardrobe, you won’t regret a nice, sleek, uniform set of velvet hangers that are gentle on your clothes and make the whole space look spiffy. Lots of luck on the big move! You’ve got this!👏🏻👍🏻💜
I know it doesn't help but....the green "Christmas use " skirt was so so nice 😂. I've been moving several times but I'm super trained in packing things so it has never been a problem. But the problem was leaving my rented apartments especially as one was my first "finally moving from parents house"one. I've moved alone two times ,and two times I've cried a river. Moving is always hard, in mind and body, but you're going towards a new starting point of your life. Changes are always precious.
I for one definitely wanna see all the cute clothes! I love how each piece has a story, memory and a vibe.... grandma nun? lost victorian child? lay frustrated victorian? these are GOLDEN!!!
