I'm a brazilian woman, born in 1984, grew up with Nintendo and SEGA, had the Master System, SEGA Genesis, NES, Super NES, Saturn, Dreamcast, GBA, Nintendo DS, 3DS (x4), WiiU and Nintendo Switch x4 (v2, OLED, Lite and Hyrule Lite). Currently owning 508 Nintendo Switch cartridges (130 3DS cartridges and 64 DS cartriges), plus all of the classic minis. I love having physical media, although I only purchase games that I really intend to play someday, instead of buying anything released. I plan to continue with Switch 2. Great video, I felt represented. Subscribed here, and I will follow you on bluesky :)
You should totally show your collection!!!! I just started playing the 3ds because I never owned one when they first came out, I fricken love this thing. Would be cool to see your collection. I’m personally a pirate for old consoles
Reminder that while gaming sales are majority digital, that's including all the digital-only games like Fortnite and casual games like Madden and CoD. The games that core gamers buy, like first party Nintendo and PlayStation games, are still selling majority physical. The digital shift is primarily due to casualization and a change in the types of games people are playing. I know with things like the PS5 Pro it looks like Sony is also trying to kill physical media, but remember they are the Blu-ray company, they release a lot their first party games physically and will ship games on 2 discs if needed, and their first party games are still selling majority physical. That's why Nintendo and Sony are still going strong with physical compared to Microsoft and especially every PC gaming company.
Keep in mind that a lot of sales comparison charts will include DLC in digital sales, so even people that buy the game physically, but buy DLC will still contribute to the digital sales. It's not as big of a blow-out for the digital side as companies what you to believe, but I'm sure digital is still leading at this point.
A physical copy is important to me, I'm more inclined to buy a game if there's a physical copy. Only digital games i ever bought were Metroid Prime Remastered only because i couldn't wait 2 weeks for the physical copy and Tomb raider 123 remastered.
Sad how gamers worldwide prefer pirating Nintendo games instead of buying them legit. Gamers worldwide prefer playing and buying games on ps. Everything is judged from graphical fidelity nowadays.
I think a lot of that comes down to how under-powered the Switch and even their older systems like the Wii are. Pop that same game. You were hardly getting 30fps on the Switch or Wii into an Emulator, and you're getting 4K60. Some people would rather pirate than play Echos at 20fps..
That’s on Nintendo for making a poorly made console. Switch has an amazing game library but the system used old technology when it came out 7 years ago.
@jairekambui7738 It is just a service issue of having great games locked to a budget system. Nintendo has service issues for years, which in turn cause piracy. Which usually instead of fixing the actual issues, they just sue the problems away, which is more a bandaid to the real problems...
We have over 70 physical Switch games, around 10% are imports, we have been keep physical going by importing games if they are physical outside of America, we do lets plays and I love playing physical games. With the Switch being region free imports solved a lot of problems, most games are mastered with English so we have so many things that were never sold physically here. Get those imports people, open the door to more cool stuff, you would often be surprised by what gets a physical outside of America.
I very much prefer physical because I like having the box since seeing the art and seeing it with all my games feels nice. I’m not above buying digital if I get gifted eShop cards or if I REALLY want the game, since I did that for Mario Wonder. But I prefer physical over digital.
I see pros and cons for both sides. One thing i absolutely hated about physical was driving all over the place looking for a game only to hear "We just sold out"
I'm physical for life as well. I once heard a great analogy about it. Like in the old times when people had big collections of books, you could tell a lot of someone's character by looking what kind of literature they read. Same could be said of one's game shelf.
As a 23 year old, I love seeing my physical Switch and PS5 games on my shelf. I also love seeing my books and mangas on my shelf. Nothing beats the tangible feeling and excitement of putting in a physical cartridge or disc into a game system, nor do e-readers give the same satisfaction of reading a physical book or manga. Most of all, going into a game store or bookstore is just always so exciting. Yes to physical media, and yes to ownership. These must never die especially in a world where many are already subscription services and where true ownership of copies of games, movies, etc is fading. Plus the cost of ownership for physical is cheaper than digital, because we can very easily share games with friends and family, and physical games usually are just cheaper than their digital version. Even for my other hobbies, I much prefer going into a physical toy and collectible store, a physical Pokemon Center, a physical tabletop games store, a physical sneaker store, and a physical watch dealer’s store. Me living in the Philippines could be a big influencer here because here and even in Hong Kong or Singapore, our mall culture is very much alive and only growing. But these are just so much more fun than ordering online.
I am considering buying more digital for smaller games but I will always buy my most anticipated games physical. I really hate the ps5 pro and what’s worse is that you need a PlayStation account to make the disc drive work. I think Nintendo is our only hope, I don’t see PS6 having a disc drive atp…
I heard something like this in the anime Psycho-Pass. The villain explained to him how their little dystopian society had gone off-track because reading an ebook doesn’t hit as many senses as actually physically holding and smelling a book.
Physical is the way to go. You get to keep as long as you want it and you can always sell it for a great value if you’d like. I do the same for movies they are better quality in terms of video and audio. Can’t wait for the switch 2 i’m sure it will be a great console. Nice video man!
I feel like it's too soon to praise them for this. The second Nintendo thinks they can get away with it, they'll ditch physical ASAP. And while they've been good with physical games, they've been awful with digital preservation & actively have hurt it. But this company likes to keep an iron grip around their IPs, and physical games are responsible for their huge leaks & piracy situation this gen (that & the fact the Switch is so under powered it can easily be emulated by any device). If not for physical game compatability, there wouldn't have been the exploit that allowed launch Switch units to be hacked. And every Nintendo game leaks online 2 weeks early due to physical games getting out in the wild, then uploaded online through one of those units & passed around on the countless emulators. Aside from that, physical games are much more likely to go on sale, plus they cut into profits having to spend money on manufacturing, shipping & distribution. Everyone along the chain takes a cut, whereas digital games offer no real product & Nintendo keeps all the profits. For a company that loves selling low effort remasters & "remakes" for full price (when no other companies get away with that), Nintendo would LOVE to rake in even more profit off of that. With digital, they control who has access, including early review copies, and can track who leaked things if something gets out. They can cut out whoever they don't want, and they can revoke access to these games at any time. I do not believe Nintendo will continue supporting physical beyond next gen. In fact, I think we'll see an all digital Switch 2 revision pretty quickly.
The other reason the Switch has such a high support for physical media comes down to ratios. Now, it is true that every platform has the existence of physical media that still requires online to be playable from start to finish. However, the Switch has an incredibly high percentage of physical games which can run start to finish with no online connection at all. That includes games that may have bugs fixed by patches, but still can be played all the way through. In my immense collection, that’s still around 95% or more that can. No other current platform, has that reliability of complete-enough on-physical games. Edit: In addition, having the small carts as their medium has also really helped them stick with physical media. Not just from a console manufacturing part, but from a portable part. Note that many hard carrying cases for the Switch allow people to carry 20+ Carts right with them. So it’s not just going to the shelf to pick out another game to play, it is also deciding on what 20 or so games we want to play, these days, making the selection and choosing those carts to put in that case whether it is where we travel, or just in the aspect of playing the thing in bed (perhaps away from the room where you cases reside)
My big brother gave me switch oled last week, he teach me how to hunt physical cartridge like buy used one from, where to sell and buy, etc. ngl it was strangely fun and I realized i was completely missing out :"))
I’m a big collector just because quite a few games stem from my own childhood in the 80s and 90s. I get to keep that bit of history of both the old games as well as the new titles that get redesigned for the new generations. I have over 150 games and that list is still growing.
I agree with this sentiment. My gaming PC doesn't even have a disc drive anymore. When I was a kid, buying a brand new game and flipping through those little booklets on the car ride home was an enjoyable past time. Physical boxed game used to have small instruction manuals that are also crammed with game lore and stuff.
Me personally I dont play many videogames, but when I do I prefer physical. They dont take up that much space and look great on a shelf. Great video. Subscribed.
I recently bought a MHGU physically, even though its pre-owned, the mere tangible feeling opening something and seeing that "oh Im gonna pop that in and play it today" without the worry of WiFi connectivity is just utterly divine to feel. That's despite me being poor and actually earning just to get even a pre-owned game is enough to make me happy.
I can tell America alone is destroying games industry for their decision to push digital only, and the people that follow it are too braindead and just agree on it, which ticked me off
My favorite part about my NES collection is the random names of kids. Some I didn’t even know lol. Somehow got it from a friend of a friend etc Makes it special. But yeah, physical for life!
I remember when I was a kid and when Blockbuster was a thing me and my brother rented some games, played them through out the trial and those that we liked we made a list of the next game we wanted to get
One thing I feel like people don’t talk about: Where do we stand when it comes to physical switch games that don’t have have the whole game on the cartridge and requires a download or code to download the rest of the game? Examples: Spyro, Tony Hawk, Mortal Kombat, Resident Evil, Hogwarts, Doom, GTA Trilogy, Bioshock etc
Man, I remember when I was a kid buying Casset tapes and watching movies from Block Buster on VHS. It's too bad that most computer cases don't even have space for a disk drive any more. I also find that I tend to forget to play my digital games way more than I do with my physical games, not entirely sure why, but it's just something that I've noticed.
I almost went the all digital route but I realized that if I stop collecting physical video games I would be devastated so from now on I’m back to collecting video games physically I’m still getting digital games on my computer but on my gaming consoles on my tv all of them are going to be physical only except the Steam Deck and the ROG Ally physical is forever and let’s make sure physical media stays alive for generations to come.
I've collected something close to 200 physical Switch games as well. I take great pride in having my collection, being able to look at and display the cases and to have the cute little cartridges. Portability is never a problem, I just pack the games I know I'll be playing in the near future or might want to. Sadly it's a dying market on other platforms and even if it wasn't, discs on other platforms require ridiculous installations for some reason. I'll continue supporting physical media, it's so much fun, and if Nintendo is the only place I can do so, so be it.
When I first got my switch, I bought a few switch games digitally. Played for about a month, didn’t touch the switch for awhile, and when I came back to play it said my account was banned. Contacted Nintendo, and they said my account was “breached”, and they banned it to protect me. At that time I had no access to any of those games I purchased until they unbanned my account. Since then, I’ve bought physical first, digital later. 160 games collected so far.
On the subject of physical media besides games, I have a wild idea that for stuff like movies and musics, publishers could release them custom SD cards/USB drives for standard/high resolutions. While it may not be practical cost-wise for them to produce them on said formats compared to DVDs/Blu-Rays, etc., it gives the benefit of having them being more durable and longer lasting than most disc-based media, as well as possibly have faster streaming that I feel customers would be at least willing to pay premium for. That said, Team Physical for me!
I went to my 3rd closest Target to make sure I could get a physical copy of Emio the Smiling Man - Famicom Detective Club. It wasn’t going to have a very wide release but I am grateful I could get it physically.
I love physical so much that I lament the fact that Switch games no longer come with instruction booklets. When I wasn’t playing a video game, I would pour over a game’s instruction manual to look at the art, tips, special moves, and oftentimes narrative and lore that the game itself didn’t provide. Not only do I love collecting physical games, I love having posters of some games, physical instruction booklets, physical strategy guides, and even tshirts and hats of some of my favorite franchises. Not everything can be replaced or replicated digitally.
It's sad that including a manual in a release is considered a premium now. When Limited Run Games includes them, they are not like old thick manuals with actual gameplay information and story. Now they are more like miniature art books.
I think we are approaching an era where your digital games will be taken away if you don't fall in line with the political beliefs of the developers, publishers, or manufacturers. It's becoming increasingly common for large businesses to ban or otherwise take action against people who don't share their beliefs. Businesses are becoming less neutral and more activist. Probably a few years before we actually see game deletion, but I think it's coming. But didn't deletion happen with some downloaded movies on Playstation consoles for copyright reasons? Today, the excuse is licensing, but in the future I can see that being expanded.
I love physical media, but man streaming/ on demand is just so convenient compared to rifling through discs or cartridges and then setting all the TV hookups and adapters.
If Switch 2 gets hacked in a couple months from launch it will be the last physical game cart console unless they come up with a novel new way of copy protection. I hope they stick with physical forever however.
Physical for me is forever since I got my hands on the NES & it brought me & my family happiness. It really hit me hard when Nin went with DVDs from GameCube to Wii U & I believe they are on a path from the GameCube through Wii U they are going to redone those collections back into carts. So what I'm saying is I want to see the 1st party GameCube games remastered on Switch physical carts, Wii & Wii U carts like they already are doing. So with Switch I have 3 game cases 1 holds 100+ & 2 of the others hold 96 each. Yeah lots of physical & I want to own what I pay for. I pray Nin does both media forever so they have both worlds of fans that love physical & digital.
I didnt bough any physical games for my switch up to this point. However I'm considering buying them just to have a physical copy, I miss those days when I had game CDs for my PC games.
I buy digital games often but recently I bought Paper Mario The Thousand Year Door and Mario & Luigi Brothership physically and they were so much better. Probably gonna prioritise physical copies from now on and only buy digital if it’s on sale, has good pre order bonuses or if I can’t get it physical (mainly indie games like Stardew Valley, Celeste and Hollow Knight).
For now they are but that is slowly changing where I live in Australia. The digital download codes are slowly taking over with third party games on the switch on retail store shelves. First party Nintendo reprints are in small supply and after a while don't get restocked at all. Usually I have to buy off online retailers, secondhand copies or if the game isn't available physically on the local market I have to go to overseas online stores like VGP, Play Asia or an eBay seller who has imported from. I have US, KOR, EUR and JPN games in my collection. Funnily enough EUR games get released in Australia with a PEGI rating on the cart but our game covers have the Australian classification rating. The only game I own with AUS on it is Breath of the Wild. Nintendo no longer make AUS region carts.
The reality is that we need to advocate for stronger digital protections. Most indie games only come digitally. We need to not only advocate for physical media but both media having a physical cartridges with bugs that later updates fixes are useless if we don't protect the digital updates.
I met my best friend over an A Link to the Past cartridge. Also learned that I love Xenoblade because he let me borrow Xenoblade 2. I have since bought my own copy.
i live in brasil and switch games are pretty expensive, so buying a physical copy and being able to sell it after i finished the game (if i don’t intend to keep it) can help me save a lot of money long term.
Limited Run does sometimes get a bad rap, but when they are the only ones picking up a game for a physical run, it is what it is. Now I also has wondered about how long it takes for them to get a physical run, but I do get it. It is mainly due to the attempt to produce copies of the game with the most patches possible. But even then, sometimes that isn’t late enough to get them all. But that is a roll of the dice, so hard to fault for. In some cases, we have the No Man’s Sky thing. There are no physical copies anywhere with the level of transformative patches that game has. The Switch version may be the closest we have given it was the copy of the game after many updates already happened. Perhaps, in some future, there will be physical copies of the game after it is said and done, but it is becoming less of a reality in a world where maybe Nintendo will be the only company left where their game hardware supports physical media, across the board.
I like what evercade has been doing with physical media. Sure they aren’t one of the big 3 but if people continue to support them we’ll see larger and more popular games come to their platform.
If I never had my physical copies for any on my consoles I wouldn’t be the gamer I am today. I still have all my N64, GameCube, Xbox, GameBoy, DS, Xbox 360, Wii, 3DS, Wii U, Xbox One, and PS4 copies physically unless I was lazy with some titles but with me not having a physical game makes me worry more about my account then any other thing in life. Plus sharing these games throughout my whole speaks volumes over digital games. But at least Xbox allows me to make a Home Xbox so others can have my digital games. Wish other consoles would do that
As someone from a different generation, this sounds like my worst nightmare. Hell to the nah to having to drive to a physical place to a run-down store, interact with people, the store may or may not have it in stock, drive all the way home. Digital media all the way please. :)
As a teenager, physical media’s the way to go, it hits different in a good way physically having the game, and opening it for the first time and putting the game into whichever console I’m using, and I love going to stores to grab games and going to the library to grab books or dvds. I can not only grab something to enjoy at home, I can also go out and be at another place rather than my home from time to time, somewhere other than school where I just go almost every day..
I think the switch being portable makes physical easier tbh. I never just take my switch it always has a carrying case and that hold ten cartridges slots
Digital media feels soulless, for some games it's alright, but I'm not being any first party Switch releases digitally...there's something special about going to Walmart, get a new PHYSICAL Switch game, then going to Little Caeser's and bringing home a pizza and crazy bread.
I love my physical media for all the reasons mentioned here, and I applaud Nintendo for their stance on physical media. I’ll always keep in mind however that they are a company and as such when physical media is no longer commercially viable they will migrate to all digital.
I'll likely move towards more physical games in the future - but they are admittedly a bit more inconvenient when you're travelling. I'll probably consider buying some both ways.

Gaming on pc for many years and the last time i bought a physical game was at least 10 years ago, you can't buy a physical game anymore and when i bought my ps5 last year i continue to buy digital. 3 weeks ago i bought a Nintendo switch oled and right now I've already have 30 games and not a single digital game, the switch games are so nice looking in my bookshelf and I'm going to buy as many games as possible, 5 to 10 games every week, my goal is to have the 50 or 100 best games for the switch and when the new switch 2 is released I'm bying that one also.
I buy physical copies as much as possible, I now have like 150 Switch titles and it is a great feeling to see them on my shelves. My only issue with today's physical media is that they still need downloads digitally for updates to patch bugs with fixes, so in order to fully preserve best version of the games you would need to dedicate a Switch hardware with all the games fully patched. Good thing most of Nintendo Switch cartridge works without updates, but of course you might want the best versions of the games.
@@DeathMetalThrasher Yeah I was thinking of getting another Switch just for preservation, but if that hardware dies it will take the game updates along with it, so the idea of dumping and backing up the game updates somewhere else is a good idea. I might look into this.
For me it has to be a game that I love so much that I'm willing to let it fill up some of my real living space. Then I can look at them and remember the experiences I had. I still love my Diablo 2 case with the four CDs, and I kinda wish PC hadn't gone full digital. Nowadays if I love a game I bought on Steam, I usually buy official merch like plushies (Bug Fables) or art books (Octopath), to still have something physical from that game. Game Pass is fine as a way to rent games, but I'll never buy a digital-only console. Well, maybe I shouldn't say never... if the games were good enough I would be forced to. But I wouldn't like it.
People complaining about Nintendo pricing strategy, but if you want physical games, their strategy is the way to go. To make physical games survive the cartridge/cd/dvd must have value, including the second hand copies. With Nintendo rarely discount their games (and even if they did I mever see them higher than 33%) second hand copies still have their value intact That's why Nintendo can keep their physical copies alive in the market
I wish you were right but Nintendo is going all digital as well. Backwards Compatibility doesn't mean it will have a cart slot and just like other companies Nintendo wants you to go digital as well. Nintendo is so strong against piracy that they will go all digital to try to prevent it.
I was solely a physical collector untill I lost a couple cartridges when I thought they were in my console then I shaped but on my xbox is all digital for the most part...
You can still plug a Nintendo Switch game cartridge in there, it's not just digital only. The cartridge slot is located on the top right section of the system right next to the right-side shoulder and bumper buttons. If your Switch Lite doesn't have a cartridge slot then it's a fake.
to be fair, japan is saving physical media, the switch has a high physical rate becausse japan, where switch dominate, buy physical way more than elsewhere. as weird as this sound, japan hurrah here
Wait what? The way I understood the backwards compatibility with the Switch 2 is that it is only for digitally purchased games and not the physical cartridges. What I heard is they are NOT going to allow the cartridges to be backwards compatible because they added additional cartridge security to the Switch 2. This was necessary due to all the Switch 1 cartridges being hacked and easily copied. Did they actually confirm the cartridges themselves will be backwards compatible or just the games? If they do indeed do the cartridges, that would be awesome.
I was all physical until I ran out of room in an already cramped house. I’ve started downsizing a bit. The stuff I want to keep I may just stick the cartridges in a cartridge case and sell the game cases. The space issue is that bad for me unfortunately.
I’m on the cusp of Gen. X and an older Millennial and here is my take on physical media: It almost HAS to die. It’s so backwards in regard to modern consumers. Do I WANT physical media to die? Heck no but “collectors” love to push this narrative that gaming will change for the worse when physical media is gone. I think, like so many things, it’s a mixed bag. I would have killed for budgeted indie titles in the early 90s. If I could have downloaded Hollow Knight for 10 bucks back then, I would have done it in a hot second. But I am buying the most physical media on Nintendo’s platform. The reason? Because the console reads the game directly from the card. In my brain, I think of it as buying individual SD cards for games. Because the alternative is to buy multiple SD cards and switching them out. But I still buy a TON of digital games on Switch. I don’t share my games. I don’t sell anything. I’m not afraid of delisting games that I have downloaded. I just do it sorta out of habit and for the reason listed above. But I’m not married to it.
At 55 Y/O I Completely Agree..I Own The Splatoon3 Oled Switch,1st Gaming System Ive Owned Since An Atari 2600😂😂😂And Yes,I Buy Physical Cartridges,I Enjoy Sharing Games Back And Forth With Friends..Never Heard Of Blue Sky😂😂Owned This Maybe A Year,Cant Find Games I Like Unless Their Physical ..With The Exception If They Have Sales🤷🏼♀️,lol..Games Are Expensive..Great Video,Keep On Gamin❤️..They Cant Take Games Away When Their On An Sd Card..🤔Can They?
It is very important to me that these things stay physical simply because I can say I OWN IT. Digital I think is more useful for the smaller companies that tend to keep things minimal on storage space. And might not have funds for physical. But the easiness of access on digital is dangerous because of what happened recently where companies became transparent that YOU DO NOT OWN YOUR GAMES ON DIGITAL. That they can get rid of those titles if they do desire. And that is incredibly bad for game preservation in of itself. Now of course pirates will say that emulation does all that as well. But it’s also skirting those grey lines. Especially for more recent titles which companies like Nintendo don’t like and will sick the ninjas on people. So I was pretty sad that the call for game preservation was denied. But that also means physical games should be even more important as ever now. And the fact that Microsoft and Sony are not up for that pretty much saddens me. So Nintendo being this last bastion for physical, hopefully they stick to that for a long time.
I appreciate the convenience of digital games, but I still usually buy a physical copy of my favorite games 👍 …I do wish they’d give you a digital download code with physical copies, though. I know that might result in people buying the games, getting the code, and then selling the discs/cartridges… but perhaps it’s just a coupon for half off the digital download, perhaps the inverse, where if you download a game you get a discount on the physical copy if you buy directly from Nintendo… or at very least, just charge us slightly less for digital copies 🤷🏻♂️
People that think physical games don't come on the cart or disc are just crazy The updates might not be on the cart or disc but the whole game is there playable start to finish most of the time without needing updates, only games that aren't on disc are ubisoft & live service games that are online only, I hate that people get that twisted... I've went without internet for a while before but i was still able to install games from physical disc on my ps5 without updates and the games played just fine, yeah there are some games that are broken but those are rare not all games are broken And with Nintendo physical media i think that they do it the best of the 3 companies because you can put the cart in and pay it right away you don't need the updates if you don't want them Nintendo for the most part games are mostly polished and has way less bugs than others

That's exactly the idea! 😮

You should post videos of your collection 😅🥰
I'll always buy physical media. I feel like I own the game when it's in my hands
physical media and anime is life forever
@@jairekambui7738 gamers worldwide prefer ps. Nintendo is slowly dying
@arcadeportal32 i agree. Once valve announced steam deck 2 it's basically game over for Nintendo
Switch being region free is nice :)
That's it?
Those non-physical games I bought, become forgotten on my switch. so much easier to find the game I want on my shelf.
I very much prefer physical because I like having the box since seeing the art and seeing it with all my games feels nice. I’m not above buying digital if I get gifted eShop cards or if I REALLY want the game, since I did that for Mario Wonder. But I prefer physical over digital.
I also like that Switch carts take up less memory.
I always buy physical
I see pros and cons for both sides. One thing i absolutely hated about physical was driving all over the place looking for a game only to hear "We just sold out"
Definitely a fair point.
At least you’re out in the real world interacting with real people in that case. 😉👍
Oh, then the console should say “requires Internet connection” tbh
Its like reading a digital comics.. it aint the same, like holding the real thing..

The good ol’ days.
I wonder if digitial gamers buy more or less than physical gamers. When you buy physical, you might want to put it on your shelf.
Somehow got it from a friend of a friend etc
Makes it special. But yeah, physical for life!
10:29 There I am Gary there I am! I love your casual discussions man!
I remember when I was a kid and when Blockbuster was a thing me and my brother rented some games, played them through out the trial and those that we liked we made a list of the next game we wanted to get
One thing I feel like people don’t talk about:
Where do we stand when it comes to physical switch games that don’t have have the whole game on the cartridge and requires a download or code to download the rest of the game?
Examples:
Spyro, Tony Hawk, Mortal Kombat, Resident Evil, Hogwarts, Doom, GTA Trilogy, Bioshock etc
Actually Switch 2:s official release name will be named Schmo-pe-di-doo. Amazing you figured it out!
Love that you can resell physical media. Trickier to do it if at all with downloads.
Physical media is definitely my set in stone goal for games, and still is to this day. Can't wait to experience having physicals all over again!
The late 80s, 90s and early 2000s were the best times for video games.
Dig that NMH shirt, dude! I wore mine completely out. It was a white star on red...
Owning games and being capable of playing them when being old is fun and cool
Nobody is more pro physical copies than Adam Koralik on YT
I went to my 3rd closest Target to make sure I could get a physical copy of Emio the Smiling Man - Famicom Detective Club. It wasn’t going to have a very wide release but I am grateful I could get it physically.
Simple. Nintendo knows the competitors is ditching physical. Why not monopolize and make money out of physical game media?
I only buy physical copies and by just looking at my collections, it puts a smile on my face. I'm a new switch user and I currently have 15 titles.
I like having a mixed collection. Physical and digital both have their advantages, and I plan to continue with both for the foreseeable future.
I only buy physical copies and by just looking at my collections, it puts a smile on my face. I'm a new swotch user and I currently have 15 titles.
Nintendo will just go even more aggressively after hackers and emulation, who's to say a digital game can't also end up on the dark web?
@@PaperBanjo64 Good point.
Fun fact:
When Olivia Newton-John sang Let's Get Phyisical, she was talking about buying atari 2600 games or some shit like that.
**seems legit**
I didnt bough any physical games for my switch up to this point. However I'm considering buying them just to have a physical copy, I miss those days when I had game CDs for my PC games.
The actuality that physical gaming is still a thing just shows you how big of an industry gaming is.
Never buy a digital only console!
Facts!
Physical Forever!!
Wish other consoles would do that
I collect now physical media because growing up now I see how Expensive some game, boy games are now some are even hard to find
As someone from a different generation, this sounds like my worst nightmare. Hell to the nah to having to drive to a physical place to a run-down store, interact with people, the store may or may not have it in stock, drive all the way home. Digital media all the way please. :)
Cool, you'll own nothing and be happy. Have fun wasting money.
@@DeathMetalThrasher why so mean? Maybe reframe and project less negativity. I hope whatever you’re going thru gets better. It’ll be ok. 👍🏼
I totally support physical copies, for my collection. It cannot be taken away if it offline.
I think the switch being portable makes physical easier tbh. I never just take my switch it always has a carrying case and that hold ten cartridges slots
nintendo is life forever
It also helps because Nintendo games are really expensive, like 7 years later BOTW is still 60

Great point
Get or manually hack a V1 switch and you can backup the separate updates
I've said it before: Digital eats way too much memory space. Not to mention, it's a hassle trying to organize your data.
People complaining about Nintendo pricing strategy, but if you want physical games, their strategy is the way to go.
To make physical games survive the cartridge/cd/dvd must have value, including the second hand copies.
With Nintendo rarely discount their games (and even if they did I mever see them higher than 33%) second hand copies still have their value intact
That's why Nintendo can keep their physical copies alive in the market
I wish you were right but Nintendo is going all digital as well. Backwards Compatibility doesn't mean it will have a cart slot and just like other companies Nintendo wants you to go digital as well. Nintendo is so strong against piracy that they will go all digital to try to prevent it.
I was solely a physical collector untill I lost a couple cartridges when I thought they were in my console then I shaped but on my xbox is all digital for the most part...
Nintendo switch lite was digital
Only
You can still plug a Nintendo Switch game cartridge in there, it's not just digital only. The cartridge slot is located on the top right section of the system right next to the right-side shoulder and bumper buttons. If your Switch Lite doesn't have a cartridge slot then it's a fake.
to be fair, japan is saving physical media, the switch has a high physical rate becausse japan, where switch dominate, buy physical way more than elsewhere. as weird as this sound, japan hurrah here
I hope the switch 2 can upscale the games for how they were meant to be played without limited hardware 😮❤
Somthing that I can agree is owning a physical form of a game or a movie feels right bec it's not like I have to re buy again.
If they go digital only I'm freaking done . I'll just live off old retro stuff.
Nintendo jumpstarted the video game industry and has been keeping it alive with always physical games.
I appreciate the convenience of digital games, but I still usually buy a physical copy of my favorite games 👍
…I do wish they’d give you a digital download code with physical copies, though.
People that think physical games don't come on the cart or disc are just crazy
The updates might not be on the cart or disc but the whole game is there playable start to finish most of the time without needing updates, only games that aren't on disc are ubisoft & live service games that are online only,
I hate that people get that twisted... I've went without internet for a while before but i was still able to install games from physical disc on my ps5 without updates and the games played just fine, yeah there are some games that are broken but those are rare not all games are broken
And with Nintendo physical media i think that they do it the best of the 3 companies because you can put the cart in and pay it right away you don't need the updates if you don't want them
Nintendo for the most part games are mostly polished and has way less bugs than others
I'm in the same echochamber, I prefer physical anyday over only digital.
