My late husband and I was big fans he now passed away 1989 . I'm still fan me from 1959 he was from 1956. He had all his movies those times it was 16mm projector and all the records. Made a special room just with Elvis Brooks and photos.
Gates of Graceland is a fascinating watch for all Elvis fans...But, Angie just makes it that much more intriguing because she is clearly a huge fan, she is so well informed, and she approached all topics with such ease and grace. Keep it up, Ang!! You, like The King, rock it girl!
I just got to the part with the black two piece and I have literal goose bumps. I'm the director of my local museum and just seeing it preserved so well is so inspiring and give me chills! I would be so afraid to touch it even with gloves but also so awe struck to see it in person. Such a cool experience to see something Elvis wore! Its on my bucket list this year if not the next three years to go and see Graceland.
Amazing video! I had no idea that Elvis wore that stage suit top at the meeting with President Nixon. The Black jacket that he had on was previously worn during a segment in the 68 special.
I'm graduating with an MA in American history. I love American pop culture and Americana in general. I'd love to work at Graceland! My grandmother loved his gospel albums.

Fun fact - the night Elvis opened his show all the hollywood big movie stars were there like Cary Grant and all hollywood royalty came cause they had been meeting him out in Hollywood when he was filming but they wanted to see him ( the kid) in Action on stage. There was a big party in his suite for the Hollywood people. Sammy Davis jr. Had a special relationship with Elvis cause he was at Frank Sinatra’s show when Elvis was so nervous then thst Sammy gave Elvis a pep talk in the dressing rooms.
@@PauloPereira-jj4jv ok yes put the wrong year. Sorry about that. I’m not sure when Elvis gave Sammie the horseshoe shaped diamond ring. Sammie wore it till he died.
Those stars were comped by the hotel to be there on the opening nights of each Vegas season. Cary Grant, Ernest Borgnine, Fred Astaire they were always there. It was to hype up the event. It’s a tactic still used to this day
Sammy KNEW Elvis since 1956. When he played Las Vegas the FIRST time. Read up what Sammy says about Elvis and how MGM forced him to stay in the pop idol role and how he had acted scenes out with Elvis. It's a BEAUTIFUL story and tribute.
Well just think, Vernon saved all those items for History. ELVIS could have cared less. Now each of those reciets are worth between $1,500 - $5,000 ea!!
Fabbb interview !!! Yes, with a 5 year contract Elvis must have felt VERY SECURE !!!! AND IT SHOWED IN 1970 AND MOVIE TTWII; a glimpse into Elvis' life as big entertainer !!!
Correct me if I’m wrong: one engagement made him 500.000. 29 days and two shows a day(?). That’s less than 10.000 a show. And then half goes to the Colonel. What a sham
That's really too bad that the records and music sound had to be edited out, I really enjoyed it and just made everything more real for someone like me who wasn't even born during that time. Thank you for a great (previous) Gates of Graceland episode.
Can you find out if Elvis was born with a medical condition called Pectus Excavatum. I have it and Joaquin Phoenix has it and so does Billy Zane. I think Elvis has it as well from looking at certain photos of him.
No he didn't have that. If you watch histories and photos taken in 1956 at The Peabody he was shirtless - A BUNCH. That being said, my HS Sweetheart had that and I had NO IDEA it had a name!
After watching The ELVIS Movie last year, you know what I'd do with that contract signed by Tom Parker? Wipe my arse with it! That man practically killed him!
I really miss these videos. Graceland/Elvis’ Estate should consider short form videos on Elvis’s jumpsuits (~2 min or less) Do each individual jumpsuit and you’d have a ton of vids to use for things like Tiktok, Instagram, and RUclips shorts.
Fun fact: Elvis' Gretsch guitar model was a Country Gentlemen; very similar, if not identical, to one of the guitars played by George Harrison during the Beatlemania days. I wonder if Elvis knew he was playing a guitar made famous by a Beatle (after Chet Atkins, of course).
Fun fact: Elvis recorded with Chet Atkins long before anyone knew who Harrison was...i.e. Knew about the signature series, and played one long before Harrison....i.e. Harrison's 63 was bought because Harrison was a diehard Elvis fan, as were all the Beatles....you have your history completely wrong, now that's a fun fact
@@icanfartloud your name is really reflecting on your comments, right? George Harrison already had a Gretsch Duo Jet 6128 (1957 built) in 1961. He bought his first Country Gentleman in 1963 because Chet Atkins had a big influence on him, not because of Elvis.

The colonel was a slime ball, running Elvis into the ground and taking 50% of everything he earned. Had the colonel not taken so much, Elvis could have toured less in the 70s and took care of himself. He wanted to tour Europe and do a serious film, the colonel kept him in the US, stifling his creativity. The colonel would have eventually been fired had Elvis lived longer. ✌️
Elvis should have had the courage to fire him while he was alive , as he was certain the colonel was a danger to his health , and an obstacle to his future ambitions .
I’ve heard that the colonel told the international that Elvis is to be the highest paid performer in Vegas and if he ever finds out that another artist is being paid more that they would leave and be very sorry!
