I was 8&1/2 when The King passed away. 6hrs before it happened, I'd been knocked off my pushbike by a van, got taken to hospital, fell asleep and when I woke just a few hours later, with sore ribs and legs, it hadn't long happened yet it was all over the news. "So what" do I hear you say? Well, I'll tell you what, I don't live in the US, I live in England and we knew within minutes of the story breaking, that's how big an event it was. I was gutted, heartbroken

People were bringing up the subject of the bicycle and, bless her heart, she was trying to downplay the circumstances but obviously something is amiss. Ashley did say that her goal was reached in that the bicycle was now restored and was trying not to be negative but sometimes the less that is said the more is understood. Now wonder what the atmosphere is like between Ashley and Spa Guy???

Having seen Billy's spa guy you tube video and being an avid Instagram follower of Ashely Drew, I knew this story and it is so incredibly cool that Gates of Graceland took what began as a "what if?" question of Ashley's and identified and restored a piece of Elvis' childhood for all os us to see. It would really be nice if you cleaned the gates & restored them to their original look. When we were there, it totally disappointed me to see that people wrote their names on it. I’ll bet that wasn’t the case when he was alive. I would t even take a picture there because it’s so rusted & marked up. Those gates are so iconic!!! They need to do restored!
Thanks so much for preserveing such a big part of Elvis history. Can you imagine what a purchase this was for Vernon and Gladys and to make payments on a bike so Elvis could be like other boys his age and have a bike for transportation. To think that Elvis rode the bike in Tupelo and in Memphis is history on it's own. You know that it meant alot to Elvis for him to have kept the bike all those years. I would bet that Vernon hung it in the smokehouse with a cloth hanger cause he kept everything. It probably reminded Elvis of how much his Momma and Daddy loved him. Billy the Spa Guy knows his stuff when it comes to bikes. This is one of my favorite episodes of the gates of Graceland.

Amazing , glad the bike made it on a respectful display....there are also all Elvis wardrobe from 1960-1967 that we never see, i love how he dressed back then, all those Bolero jackets ( like in viva las vegas, the banana yellow, red, black and others) im sure there are all in the archives....1.5 million items😮😯😯
Part of me thinks they should have left the bike the way it was then other part of me likes what they did to it after fixing it up. But I’m glad they found the bike! Very cool treasure!!! :)
All of me thinks they should have left it alone! Maybe put it together and display it, but much better to see the paint and wear & tear Elvis himself put on the bike. Someone should have stopped her doing this.
I agree! When it's a historical item like that they shouldn't restore it as much as they did. Now it looks like any other new bike. The signs of wear and the age is something that should be kept to some extent. That's just my opinion. Don't get me wrong, I think the bike looks really nice now, but as a historical Elvis item it's kind of sad that they don't have original parts like the original paint and the seat. It's even a bit charming if it has a bit of rust and shows signs of wear - it's just not the same bike anymore.
When I was there in1990 I was surprised that the yard wasn't as nice as I thought it would be! But I loved it very much, would love to take my wife there! Thanks for the great videos!

@@LindaD68 Where is Ashley? Every year Graceland has auctions and one auction was for a guest appearance on "Gates of Graceland". Billy (Spa Guy) won that year's auction. Billy tried to get Ashley on this episode, however, Graceland said "No, only the winner". So that is why Ashley is not on this show. Also, for people who do not know, Ashley only asked the question of "could this be the bike?". It was Billy who went to visit the smoke house and take more in depth pictures of the bike and started the dectective work and research on it.
This was a beautiful story. There are so many parts and things that he owned. That people like you keep his memories alive. So when its said elvis lives . Yes he dose thats to you all. And MMK. the story's that his cousin Billy shares. And Ashley dose by having trivia and keeping all of his fans reading and researching more about . The man Elvis Aaron Presley.

It was then the SPA GUY who did all the research and detective work. Spa guy then won a Graceland auction to do an episode of Gates of Graceland in which he paid almost $2,000 for. He tried to get Ashley in on the episode. Graceland said "No" only the winner. Spa guy has all the texts and emails between himself and Ashley to prove this. You need to get your facts straight Linda.
So sad that they restored the bike. It has lost all value now. They should have just cleaned it and left it like it was. To me this is not really any longer Elvis' bike. Historic pieces should never be restored, just cleaned and kept like they are.
So thankful we have the technology to be able to see all this and keep in touch with what is going on at Graceland. I met Billy and Angie 2 years ago at the birthday celebrations in Jan of 2019. Dedicated Elvis fans.

The Spa Guy and Ashley Drew (and then some) made this happen. Then Graceland "tightened up" and got things done' AFTER it was brought to light but didn't give them credit. They made it sound like they had already had it in the works.

I’m always indifferent when they restore things to how they were when it was brand new, I kind of enjoy seeing it all tattered and torn as it weathered through use and time.

Amazing , glad the bike made it on a respectful display....there are also all Elvis wardrobe from 1960-1967 that we never see, i love how he dressed back then, all those Bolero jackets ( like in viva las vegas, the banana yellow, red, black and others) im sure there are all in the archives....1.5 million items😮😯😯

Part of me thinks they should have left the bike the way it was then other part of me likes what they did to it after fixing it up.

All of me thinks they should have left it alone! Maybe put it together and display it, but much better to see the paint and wear & tear Elvis himself put on the bike. Someone should have stopped her doing this.

I agree! When it's a historical item like that they shouldn't restore it as much as they did. Now it looks like any other new bike. The signs of wear and the age is something that should be kept to some extent. That's just my opinion. Don't get me wrong, I think the bike looks really nice now, but as a historical Elvis item it's kind of sad that they don't have original parts like the original paint and the seat. It's even a bit charming if it has a bit of rust and shows signs of wear - it's just not the same bike anymore.

Where’s Ashley Drew? Why didn’t spaguy insist that Graceland invite her since she’s the one that “ACTUALLY FIRST SPOTTED” the bike?
@@LindaD68 Where is Ashley? Every year Graceland has auctions and one auction was for a guest appearance on "Gates of Graceland". Billy (Spa Guy) won that year's auction. Billy tried to get Ashley on this episode, however, Graceland said "No, only the winner". So that is why Ashley is not on this show. Also, for people who do not know, Ashley only asked the question of "could this be the bike?". It was Billy who went to visit the smoke house and take more in depth pictures of the bike and started the dectective work and research on it.

I don’t know…I’m weird with messing with how things were. I know it’s awesome they “restored” it, but a new paint job? I understand getting the rust off or cleaning it…I’m sure Elvis left it like that cause it meant something to him being in that condition. I’m big on keeping things original and not changing the look.

@@LindaD68 SHe did NOT do the detective work on this. She ONLY asked the question of if that bike in the smoke house was Elvis' originial bike. It was then the SPA GUY who did all the research and detective work. Spa guy then won a Graceland auction to do an episode of Gates of Graceland in which he paid almost $2,000 for. He tried to get Ashley in on the episode. Graceland said "No" only the winner. Spa guy has all the texts and emails between himself and Ashley to prove this. You need to get your facts straight Linda.

So sad that they restored the bike. It has lost all value now. They should have just cleaned it and left it like it was. To me this is not really any longer Elvis' bike. Historic pieces should never be restored, just cleaned and kept like they are.
I feel the same😢 it means more to see it as he left it… the bald tires and all. That’s a disappointment

Oh, so happy to see The Spay Guy in this fantastic episode. I have watched so many The Spay Guys video's as well as Graceland's.
The Spa Guy and Ashley Drew (and then some) made this happen. Then Graceland "tightened up" and got things done' AFTER it was brought to light but didn't give them credit. They made it sound like they had already had it in the works.
