My Favourite Chicken in the Philippines - Amazing $3 Filipino Chicken. The Best Fast Food Chain

  • Kumusta my friends,
Back to another episode here in the Philippines, we are trying another popular fast food chain called Mang Inasal, which is well known for their grilled chicken. Going into the restaurant we had no expectations, but our minds were blown as soon as we went in. Firstly, the staff at the restaurant greeted us with enthusiasm. Secondly, we walked in and immediately saw chefs preparing the mouth watering chicken behind the glass window. We ordered the Pecho Chicken Set which comes with a big chicken, rice, soft drinks and we also ordered the empanada. It costed 252 pesos in total which is 6.6AUD/ 4.4USD.
The chicken came faster than expected and the smell was on the next level. As soon as I took my first bite, all the memories from childhood came back from 10 years ago when I first visited Cebu and had roast chicken on the streets. It had the exact same taste. I rated this fast food chain the best in the Philippines as it is definitely my personal favourite.

Hong Kong's street food scene is already vibrant. I like it there and we went there twice already for its many attractions which also includes its street foods which we like a lot as well. Cantonese food is not alien to us Cebuanos because a few of our local cuisine here have Cantonese influence such as our famous Siomai sa Tisa (Tisa is a barangay in Cebu City where most of the siu mai vendors are based). Cebu's famous steamed fried rice also has Cantonese influence. The oldest Chinese Cantonese restaurant in Cebu and still operating today is Dimsum Break which started in 1960s in Colon St., the oldest street in the country and its original and first outlet is still found there. Ding Qua Qua, the dim sum buffet restaurant chain and Harbour City Dimsum (a nod to Hong Kong's famous Victoria Harbour). Even our famous Cebu humba, a braised pork, also has strong Chinese influence which is very similar to China's dong po rou in both preparation and taste.

Hi Guys, Mang Inasal is really good and tasty Chicken. When you go next time, here's the way Pilipinos do it; Squeeze the Kalamansi (small green lime) in the Soy Sauce and add Chili if you prefer for your Dip, then pour the Chicken Oil in your Rice and Chicken. BTW, when ordering in the counter you have the choice for Unlimited Rice or not. The color of your Plate is Green that means Unli Rice because White Plate is not Unli. So you can signal or call the Man carrying Rice for your refill, 2,3,4,5 times refill no problem, its Unlimited.

@Justin and Alina....Try to explore the mountains of Cebu, there are a few cool restaurants, cafes, bars there offering panoramic view of the city and the mountains. Better to use scooter to navigate through the traffic. Some chill restaurants and cafes there include: Chixboy BBQ (next to Temple of Leah), La Vie in the Sky (authentic French bar/cafe next to TOPS Lookout), Top of Cebu (Filipino restaurant next to TOPS Lookout), Outback Servo (along TCH), Mr. A Bar & Restaurant, Balai sa Busay, The Gaslamp (a food court by the mountain), etc. Simply drive along TCH all the way to Balamban on the west side of Cebu, you can find lots of interesting spots, viewing decks, cafes, restaurants, parks, gardens, campsites, etc.

correct me if i'm wrong, but i think the easiest way to define inasal is that it's the specific marinade for grilled meat , usually chicken, that originated in Bacolod. paa (pronounced as pa-a) refers to the leg+thigh part. nore often than not, restos that sell inasal will list chicken parts as options. so there's paa, pecho(breast) and parts like hearts, gizzards, butts are also option (we truly avoid wasting any parts). liempo is actually also refers to a cut of meat (belly) but this time from pork. at mang inasal, it would also be grilled with the same marinade and technique.

You put the chicken oil on the rice as well as the chicken to
make it moist. The other dip is soy sauce. You usually mix it with chilis and vinegar and used as a chicken dip. That's the proper way to eat chicken inasal. In the menu paa means chicken thigh while pecho means chicken breast.

If you're getting halo-halo remember to mix it up, halo-halo means "to mix"
The yellow oil is chicken oil we usually pour or put some on the rice 😁
And I've noticed if you we're given or served with soy sauce, vinegar and the small green lime which called "calamansi" we mix it together to make a sauce out of it. But for me soy sauce and calamansi is just the right combination.

I'm a Filipino but have lived in New Zealand for more than 30 years so I haven't tasted it yet, not even during my last visit in 2013 as I don't remember it being around yet at the time. Anyway, I just want to say thank you for coming back to the Philippines after your first holiday at the age of 10 years old, and bringing your girlfriend with you this time around now that you're all grown up. I wish you both a safe and more fun holiday and adventure around the Philippines. Just a piece of advice when eating at fast food places, please look after your phones and camera and other possessions, avoid leaving them unattended on the table even for a second to grab something.

It is a unique grilled chicken dish where the chicken oil irs combined with rice. The soy sauce is mixed with chili and vinegar and is for dipping. This way you can enjoy and your eating experience be enhanced to the maximum potential. It also happend in your vid wit the lechon. Dippings are prime importance in filipino cuisine.

If ever you come back to Mang Inasal (since it's your happy place now)...
Mix the soy sauce, chicken oil, calamansi juice and a bit of vinegar. (add chili if you want)
Then ask for the FREE sinigang soup.
Put spoonfulls of the sinigang soup on your rice and add some chicken oil.
Then take a forkfull of your inasal and dip it in your soy sauce/chicken oil/calamansi juice/vinegar sauce.
Then have the rice and and chicken in one mouthful.
    You're welcome. Hahaha
PS You should've noted by now that sourness is quite predominant in the Philippine cuisine's flavor profile (sinigang, calamansi, vinegar.) It adds another dimension of flavor to Filipino dishes which are mostly savory and sweet. Add to that some heat with chili and boom! Flavor explosion.
Enjoy! Now you know what to do next...ask for calamansi or suka (vinegar.) Goes well too when you try Rico's Lechon. :)

its funny because this is the third time that you've encountered calamansi in your vlogs and ignored it all three times 😆 its used usually on sauces or additional flavor on food so make sure to not waste it once you see it, its a special type of lime that is almost only found and used in the philippines,
edit: nevermind it seems they never gave you one

I will make sure to use the sauces next time!! For some reason, growing up I often ignore the sauces in cantonese cuisine hence develop this same habit haha.

Paa is a filipino term for thighs. 저도 망이나살 좋아해요. 필리핀에서 즐겁게 지내세요.

      "Paa" in Cebuano is Thigh
      "Paa" in Filipino is Foot
      Thigh in Filipino is "Hita"
If you go to Metro Manila and asks for "Paa ng Manok" they might think of Chicken Claws/feet. 😅😳

guys, it’s pronounce “mang inasal@, if you say it mang inaso, that means it’s like a bad word for us to hear because like “aso” or dog, and rice oil is for the rice to pour in it, plus soy sauce is for the chicken and you should mixed-up with kalamansi and a little bit of chilli.
    shout-out from Greece…👍🇵🇭

Paa (Pah-ah) means feet and Inasal is Bacolod Grilled Chicken. The yellow oil is chicken oil and it must be mixed with the rice for better taste of chicken and rice and unlimited rice is you must wave your hand to the staff roaming around with a bucket of rice and he/she will come to you to put rice in your plate depends how many scoop do you want.

Fyi, drizzle the oil and mix with the rice is the way to do it. Soy sauce with calamansi (chili pepper optional) is the go to dip for the chicken and pretty much for any grilled food youll have in the Philippines. Enjoy!

You still have a lot of Filipino dishes you need to try and discover. Our taste palate revolves only for Sweet, Sour, Salty and Spicy or a combination of those. Like Chinese, Filipinos are use to have more flavoring agents on foods because it's all abundant Most of our dishes are sauteed, fried and grilled.

Before the pandemic, there's a bottle of chicken oil on any table and you can see lots of people putting it on their rice...and they give plastic gloves as well before so you can eat it with your hands...pandemic really changed everything...but still a good chicken :)
